    Reasonable prices with huge portions!

My wife and I stopped in for a brunch meet-up with an Aussie friend at Windhill as this was right on the Fox Riverbank. It didn't disappoint! Our server, Maddy, gave us plenty of time to decide after dropping beverages...coffee was very good. Seeing people's choices around us, I decided on the Philly Steak Omelette (huge, enough for two!), my wife got the Chicken Fried Steak and the youngster got the pick 5 Belly Buster. Bacon was perfectly cooked as was the steak and omelette. Our glasses never did go empty and this place was packed on a beautiful Sunday. The interior has lots of charm and some nice architecture (antique post office facade for the win!) and the old time candy at the cashiers window is a nice touch. Five star service and five star brekkie stop if you're up in the McHenry area.

We had a wonderful breakfast at the Windhill! The food was excellent, service prompt and terrific atmosphere. Busy even in the late morning. Highly recommended!

Very delicious food the chicken was crispy, the French toast was not soggy and loaded well I didn't even need syrup. The cheesy hash browns are to die for!! REALLY good!! The service was fast and very friendly staff. The environment is very family friendly and clean! The decor inside is very welcoming and homey.

We really enjoyed our brunch here! The staff is so friendly, the restaurant decorated so nicely and the food was a nice surprise! We typically don't enjoy brunch or breakfast out anymore but this made us want to start going again! My daughter and I are vegetarian so we were a little limited on choices but decided on the egg in a hole which was AMAZING! And she got regular fries while my husband got waffle whatever you do get waffle fries. They are amazzzzzzing! We also enjoyed a slice of lemon meringue because they were all out of apple. The only thing I did notice is that if we can after brunch we wouldn't have many main course options as vegetarians. They should add an impossible or beyond patty (plant based meat) so the burgers can be made vegetarian!

Over easy eggs, hash browns , sausage, bacon, and toast.

Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Food is great. Menu has a variety of food. Food was awesome. We visit there every time we are in town.

    The perkolator skillet, garden omelet.

Grandmas house is always good. Fair enough prices for these days. And this skillet is really good. Very nice home like atmosphere.

    Coating of dust

First time visiting here for the train experience for our kids. We were lucky to get a spot right in front of train track/kitchen area. We got seated and waited a really long time for a server to come by. This place definitely has A LOT of decor to the point that it's excessive. The restaurant was filthy. We noticed large layers of dust on the light fixtures near the train area. Old Water and coffee stains on the tracks. Silverware was dirty and the water tasted bad. The place was packed so service was extremely slow. My husband and I didn't particularly care for my entrees. He ordered Mediterranean omelette and I had florentine crepes. Coffee was weak. My oldest ordered chicken n waffles and she didn't eat much of it. Server seemed a little Annoyed by my requests and it showed in her body language/facial expressions. Maybe because they looked short handed. Unfortunately, This is a one and done place for us.

I was a little hesitant about this place because the photos and the decorations were a lot but I actually really did enjoy this place! The menus are in actual books and I thought that was super cute! My boyfriend and I were both in the mood for sandwiches apparently so he got the triple club sandwich and fries, and I got the chicken and rice soup with a Turkey sandwich (soupandwich). My only complaint about my order was that the sandwich with the soupandwich is super small. It's just a half sandwich, which I expected but the soup was filling and really creamy! We got the mimosa flights and didn't expect much from it, but they were strong and really tasty. Def would come back! Street parking and there's a small lot across the street!

New owners are doing some redecorating. When i was there today - our seat was at the bar and our meal delivered by a train! watching the kids at the bar was magical !

Good space. Nice atmosphere. Family oriented

What a cute little gem in downtown McHenry. Excellent comfort food with great service. The place is all decorated for Easter. Very nice ambiance.

Very well decorated in Halloween theme. Good food. Breakfast items are a little pricey. Service wasn't great but it is a great atmosphere.

So I decided to try it for lunch and am torn between 3-4 stars. I got the breaded veal diner/dinner type special, posted on the board behind the counter seating. $14. And it came with bean or cream of potato soup. The veal was not a whole piece of veal but a ground concoction that seemed like something from the grocery frozen food section. Not awful but not awesome. Then again this is a little diner so should I expect chef food? It is called Little Chef. Undecided. It was served hot and crisp which was good because the gravy and mashed taters were definitely overwhelming the texture and flavor of the meal. The gravy was ok but a little different taste than any gravy I've ever had. Definitely not homemade and was very strong flavored. I think if it had some beans or a small salad included with this would have been happier. I got hot tea which was a challenge as the water spilled all over from the tea pot and I was told to put my hand on the top to avoid that, but then your finger got a little bit of burn from the hot metal. The soup was good and I took it home. The service was fine, absolutely no issues there and since it wasn't too busy, as expected. I know everyone's prices everywhere have gone up, but I just can't justify what I paid for what I got. Again not sure what expectations should be in this economy or where to put the extra minus star for the state of restaurants and value, but this was just a bit under expectations.

The food is solid and plentiful. Has a very homey feel and the staff is friendly as can be! The…read moreprices are reasonable as well! I will visit again for sure!

Everything was great about this place and the hype is legit!…read more First off, the parking is great! A nice big free lot across the street. No need to find street parking. We walked in on a lazy Sunday post the lunch rush, around 2. I forget what burger I got, but it did not disappoint. Everyone who has said I need to check it out was tight. It was very good. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The toppings were fresh and the fries were tasty. Everything was great! I returned with my burger club and most guys liked it however, some got the burgers that had so much going on that your taste buds are in over drive. Just stick with a build your own burger and avoid all the crazy toppings and you'll love it.

We were in the area strawberry picking and wanted to find a local place for lunch. Based on Google…read morereviews, we chose DC Cobb's. I'm glad we didn't skip this place based on the Yelp reviews. The restaurant is in the heart of downtown McHenry and next to the river. I highly recommend sitting in the enclosed patio. It's spacious, full of tvs, and has a nice view of the river. You can tell based on the menu and confirmed by our server, burgers are their thing. All kinds including beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie and fish, some choices are an up charge. The burgers come with a side, some have an up charge. Our server mentioned everything is made in-house. I feel it's a rarity of restaurants to made their food in-house so it made me excited for the food. Everything is reasonably price. I opted for the BFM burger and pickle chips ($2 up charge). The burger was juicy and well cooked. Their burgers are 1/2 lbs so it was big. The pickle chips were crunchy and really good. Portion was huge and worth the up charge. My lunch partner chose Cajun fries and they were crispy and flavorful. Our server was great! She was so nice! One negative, they allow dogs and many people brought their dogs. Since the space is enclosed, I did not like all the dogs while I was eating. It was tricky leaving since the hostess stand is located in the tight entrance and there was a dog right in the doorway. My lunch companion is deathly allergic to dogs. Luckily this dog owner was considerate and moved their dog so we could pass. Other than all the dogs, we enjoyed our meal and would come again.
