Saturday, 7/19/2025 - Tried The Window Box Cafe for the first time. Address is 6835 Five Star Blvd, Rocklin, CA 95677. Upon arrival... Pros 1) there were plenty of parking when we arrived. It was nice and quiet in the restaurant. We can hear one another talk. 2) restaurant looked clean. Cups, plates, utensils all looked clean. 3) water tasted good. No funky, metal or weird taste. 4) all the food dishes we ordered were good. Cafe mocha drink was good. 5) server was nice and professional. She brought extra napkins for our table and ensure our water cups were refilled with water. 6) they didn't rush us out. 7) bathroom was clean. Two separate bathroom. One stall in each. For men or women. 8) our server bright be a cup of water to go. So sweet of her. It was a hot day today. Cons 1) took them a while to come take our orders. There was only two other people in the restaurant. 2) the Arnold Palmer tea was not good. Not sweet. My friend absolutely did not like it and returned it. They didn't charge us for it. Conclusion Cute and clean little restaurant. Nice large parking lot with plenty of parking. I only saw one person working in the front with us. She was very nice. Our foods were all good. Delightful breakfast experience [Rocklin CA] My Mom and I had brunch at the Window Box Café for the first time. It was actually around 11:45a when we arrived so closer to lunch but we both ordered from their breakfast menu. I chose the Bacon & Eggs with hashbrowns, Mom had the Denver Omelette. We chose white toasts with our meals. I liked the way the bacon turned out, I like the crispy way it was cooked. Mom's omelet was huge and she could only finish 1/3 of it. Food came fast and our server was great! The décor accent at the entryway is charming, farmhouse style with a welcoming setting. Interior is homey, very clean and cozy. The restaurant has two dining sections and an outdoor patio dining on the side of the building. From Five Star Blvd the building looks unassuming and doesn't look like a restaurant. I was really unimpressed with window box cafe. Honestly was actually embarrassed to have recommended it to my friends who were with me. I will not be returning. I have no idea how their reviews are so high. For starters, it's run-down inside. It looks somewhat cutesty from the outside and photos, but it's a run-down diner on the inside. Think old Denny's, but actually worse because at least they have some corporate standards I'm sure. Service was SLOW despite the restaurant being not even half full. It took ages to have our orders taken, another huge gap for meals to come and then the meals weren't served all together. My party of 6 was done eating before I got my meal. Apparently the kitchen was having an "off" day that day, but it's still not acceptable. They also failed to get all of the orders correct. Toast was forgotten/left off at least 1-2 of the dishes. The food itself was really lackluster, worse than most chain breakfast / diners around like black bear. The portion sizes were also very small, not worth it for the price tag. Even the coffee was not tasty or well presented. I do not intend to ever return and would recommend you find another place for breakfast/brunch as there are so many options around. You're better off with a chain if you want something casual and quicker, or one of the many independent brunch spots if you want something a bit more "foodie", "aesthetic" or unique. read more

Stopped in at The Window Box Café for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. True to its name, the place is small--about the size of an actual window box--but the charm is big. The décor is adorable, cozy, and welcoming, with sweet little touches that make it feel homey. I had the bacon cheeseburger, and it was cooked just right--flavorful, juicy, and satisfying. I paired it with a fruit cup that was fresh and well-portioned, with strawberries, grapes, pineapple, and orange slices. Everything tasted great, and even though I couldn't finish it all, it definitely hit the spot. Would absolutely stop by again if I'm in the area. A cute, comforting place for a casual bite! Invited for a gathering here and was pleasantly surprised! Small well run, clean, and cozy little cafe. Tucked away in a place most wouldn't normally find. The Lady who owns it has made it her own. A former Mexican restaurant; she has completed the change to a lovely American cafe. Friendly service and above average cafe fare is in keeping with the 'Window Box' theme. I had an excellent Belgian waffle and a rasher of beautiful bacon. The coffee was excellent and the cup was kept full! I had lunch here today with my MIL. It's such a great place for breakfast and lunch, they have a wide variety of food, it's always really good and the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. I get the Patty Melt every time I'm here, I love their Patty Melt - 1/2 lb beef patty with cheddar cheese, lightly grilled onions (I don't like when the onions are overcooked) on rye bread. I enjoyed half of it and brought the other half home. My MIL got the Cobb Salad and it looked delicious - chicken, avocado, hard boiled egg, chopped tomato, bacon crumbles, crumbled bleu cheese and your choice of dressing. It was a big salad too. Wanted breakfast food but didn't want to go to any of the chain places. This place popped up and wasn't too far. Outside looking in doesn't look like it would be much, but the food was amazing. Blueberry pancakes were spectacular, homemade corn beef was good, and poached eggs were perfect. They also have more than just hot coffees available and that was a plus! Biscuits and gravy were a big disappointment (dry biscuits and over peppered gravy.) everything else was great. I would say the only downside to our visit was the server that initially greeted us when walking in (She had a undercut hair cut) she looked like us walking in unconvinced her entire life and had such a poor attitude. We made a reservation for a large party of 16 including kids, for a post graduation lunch. There were only two other small parties of maybe five or six guests at the restaurant at the same time that we were and one waitress. Our waitress poured Waters and a few additional beverages were ordered (coffee, Diet Pepsi, lemonade- and never received). When our order was being taken, we asked the waitress to split our bill because there were multiple sets of grandparents at the table that wanted to pay for themselves separately. That our orders were taken and The kids food came out 25 minutes before any adult entrees, so they were completely finished by the time a full size entree hit the table. As the adult entrées came out, they came out to at a time. 2 out of 14! Then 4 min later, another 2, so not more than two people were served and eating at the same time. It took a total of 45 minutes for every person at the table to have received food. When we asked for water refills, two glasses were refilled, and then the waitress disappeared for another 10 minutes. One of the orders that we had was the avocado toast. There was a black Hair on top of the avocado when it was served. When we told the waitress what was found she said "well where did it come from?" And the person who was served it responded "I don't know ask your Kitchen staff because I am a blonde and this is how it was given to me!" There was nothing done about this. It was not offered to make something new, it was not offered for that meal to be comped due to not even one bite being taken out of it. The eggs Benedict that 4 persons ordered and the kids waffles were the ONLY decent entrees at the table. It was SO embarrassing to have invited grandparents from out of town, (told them this place would be delicious!) out to celebrate our son's graduation with a lunch and to receive such poor quality food and such poor quality service. The reservation was made a week in advance and followed up on two days in advanced to be sure that staff was informed and that the establishment was going to be staffed appropriately for our large party. Every person left unsatisfied with their food, still with an empty belly, and a lot of annoyance. This is not somewhere that I would recommend having a large gathering, or frankly, a meal at again. read more

My favorite brunch spot! No other local brunch place has food as delicious as here. I usually get one of the scrambles. A lot of the meals can come with mini pancakes, which are the perfect size to enjoy pancakes without it being your full meal. The service is also good and the decor is soothing and gentle. read more

Wow! Times have changed since my last review. I "assume" the restaurant is under new ownership, as the menu, the attitude and "things" have changed since my last review. The Window Box Cafe is a small mom 'n pop restaurant, located on the west end or Rocklin, CA, in a nice, suburban setting. The Window Box Cafe offers breakfast and lunch, and is open every day of the week from 07:00 in the morning until 15:00 in the afternoon. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be meeted and greeted by a staff member. Since I'd "opened" up the restaurant on this early Thursday morning, I simply walked into the dining room and seated myself. The dining room is spacious, comfortable, and offers a great combination of tables and booths. The room is attractively lighted by natural lighting, thanks to the many windows. The first page of the extensive breakfast menu lists "Breakfast Specials," and was as far as I needed to go, as biscuits and gravy seemed like a great choice on this Thursday morning. From the "Breakfast Specials" section of the menu, I went with "Biscuit and Gravy Platter." My choice of sides was link sausage and hash brown potatoes. Great choice of sides for a solid breakfast. Oh... the 805 beer was on the side... This menu dish features flexibility, as when you place your order, you get many choices, such as hash brown potatoes or homestyle potatoes, bacon, link or patty sausage, and how you want your eggs fried. The "star" of my meal were two large, flavorful, grilled sausages, which were my "protein" of choice. Along with the sausages, I went with hash brown potatoes, which were grilled to a light golden brown crisp on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. Lately, "sunnyside up" seems to be my eggs of choice, and my eggs arrived perfectly fried, as per my order. "Biscuit and Gravy Platter" is the correct description of this breakfast, as I received ONE medium size biscuit, which was fresh and tasty, covered in thick, sausage gravy. This was a solid breakfast choice, and for $14.00, was to me, on the "high-end" of breakfast, yet not out of line, in today's crazy world. I'm guessing The Window Box Cafe has changed owners since my last visit, as the hospitality has changed drastically... The Window Box Cafe offers a solid breakfast choice for "foodies" in Rocklin, who enjoy breakfast. The breakfast is good, but it's not a breakfast that I'd drive out of my way for, and in the future, I think I'll pass on by, as there are many other breakfast restaurants to enjoy in Western Placer County. About The Window Box Cafe... nothing is wrong with the restaurant, but nothing is right with it either... I hold no enthusiasm for this restaurant, as there are countless other solid breakfast choices in Western Placer County. Three stars... enjoy your dining. read more

I love this place; plain and simple. The service is outstanding and the dining room is super clean. The interior is country-inspired, feeling as though you're in a quaint part of town. There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating too. The food: I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. As the entire community (and world for that matter) is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic (as of May 2020), the geographical area where I reside is carefully following strict protocols to open up their dining establishments. Many of which had to completely restructure the layout of their tables and menus while enforcing guidelines that comply with the Department of Public Health. This takes my wife and I on a journey to the Sacramento suburb of Rocklin, CA where we had the honor and privilege of dining inside "Window Box Cafe". Located on Five Star Blvd. and just a few blocks from busy Stanford Ranch Rd., Window Box Cafe has been a quaint little breakfast joint serving the locals of Rocklin, Roseville, and surrounding areas for many years. I came here with my wife on the morning of Sunday 5/17/20 as we continue to push supporting small businesses during this unprecedented pandemic. When we entered, there was only one other party dining in. Probably because the restrictions of dining in had just been lifted a day prior to this one. Our server (which I think is also the manager) that greeted us had on a mask as did the other employees in the restaurant. There was plenty of hand sanitizer available upon entry and as we were seated, we were given disposable paper menus. Everything here was in compliance to make their restaurant "safe" for enjoying a hearty meal inside. And as far as the interior layout, this place has a bright, cheerful decor that makes you feel as if you're dining in a good old country restaurant. After given waters, our server gave us a free complimentary "Fresh Baked Cinnamon Roll" complete with cream cheese icing. She did this as a way to show her appreciation for supporting local businesses. After narrowing down our options, I went with their "California Benedict". This consisted of 2 soft poached eggs served on an English Muffin with roasted turkey breast, spinach, tomato slices, avocados, & topped with hollandaise sauce. I chose home fried potatoes as my side of choice. My lady went with a 3-egg breakfast cooked over easy, thick bacon slices, sourdough toast, and hash browns as her side of choice. In less than 10 minutes, both our breakfast platters arrived! Portions here are HUGE so if you plan on dining here, come hungry and on an empty stomach. My California Benedict did not disappoint at all; the English muffin that was used tasted homemade while the eggs were huge. I even loved the creaminess of the hollandaise sauce as everything tasted fresh, succulent, and mouth-watering. I left with a major food coma and this breakfast kept me full throughout the rest of the day. Overall, I just wanted to send a shout out to the employees, management, and owners for "Window Box Cafe" for a job well done. Today we came here for a simple breakfast and I ordered the Benny. It's so hard for me to write a bad review but I'm only doing it so they serve every customer with care. They were very kind and sweet to their regular customers (which I appreciate) but I was served an ill made food. Strangely the food came out way too quickly! The waitress said "today they're being fast" no wonder! I hope they read this review to seriously correct this disaster, I've been cooking my entire life and this is perhaps the best way to ruin someone's Saturday morning. Old and robbery country style potatoes (you could taste that they were precooked) The egg was under poached The bacon was floppy and undercooked The Hollandaise sauce was not made well, you can see how the butter and the yolks are not homogenized. English muffin was also not toasted and it was floppy and it soaked a ton of oil from the sauce. What a shame. read more

At the time of visit, they were understaffed, but service wasn't bad still. The waitress was relatively quick, took our order, checked up on us, and brought the food out as soon as it was ready as the food was still steaming when it came out. Decorations: a nice little place with community-style decorations. Nothing over the top fanciness, but it would remind you of visiting say grandma/grandpa's home. While some can say dated or needs a remodel, I can agree with that as well, but I think it's also fine as the cafe isn't truly there for decorations, but more of providing good simple food than a visual experience. Food-wise, they aren't bad and had a decent quality behind the food. Good, simple food with a "get what you ordered" mindset. In total, we had the cinnamon bun with cream cheese filling on top, children's French Toast with bacon, stack of pancakes with eggs and bacon, and then a veggie omelet that includes broccoli, zucchini, bell peppers, tomatoes, spinach, jack + cheddar blend with avocado and house made salsa on the side. The small pancakes weren't special. Pan-griddle on both sides and not terribly fluffy as they weren't thick pancakes. A bit on the dry side due to that, but okay overall. I had the omelet and I was glad they actually made it like an omelet instead of a scramble folded in half. Ingredients-wise, it was mostly spinach with small chunks of everything else. Not a great even spread of each ingredient, but you could taste each ingredient as you ate, which was a pleasant for a veggie omelet. A tad under seasoned on the eggs, but nicely cooked and constructed nonetheless. For the cinnamon buns, it came in a trio with whipped cream cheese on top. The cream cheese filling is delectable and quite thicken. The buns were a bit stringy-tough and not as fluffy as one would expect however. All in all, the food was good overall for what it's worth. Parking is easy as there is plenty of parking nearby and if you want a simple with no frills food, this place would satisfy that criteria. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area for something simple and fills the stomach. read more
