Our server was very personable and prompt, and spent time telling us of the special nights and live music programs (we were the only party as they had just opened). I sampled a really good sparkling red blend that was very good, a little sweet but worth trying. I settled on a German Riesling that was nice, somewhat sweet but definitely full bodied. I think the prices are a bit high, for example I could purchase a decent bottle of wine for the price of a couple of glasses here, in this economy I can't see coming here regularly. Wine & Tapas Bar is a wine bar and tapas restaurant that opened in Summerville, South Carolina in 2018. It was founded by business partners Vicki Taylor and Rick Bihrle. Their goal was to open a restaurant that would be a great place for friends to gather. In addition to their impressive selection of wines, they also have a large selection of craft beer. Their food menu consists of flatbreads, sandwiches, wraps, salads, tacos, charcuterie, and various small plates. The bar also frequently hosts live music as well as "Paint & Sip" nights. My family and I visited the Wine & Tapas Bar while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We were visiting our cousins who live in Summerville (right outside of Charleston). On our first night in town, we were exploring the historic downtown area. After some dinner and some rounds of axe-throwing nearby, we were all in the mood for some wine and charcuterie. We first stopped at a different wine bar/shop across the street, but we had just missed last call. Fortunately, a customer pointed us towards the Wine & Tapas Bar and told us that they were still offering wine and food. The charcuterie menu was very impressive; there were so many items that you could add to your board. We settled on Irish Whiskey-Aged Cheddar, Smoked Gouda, Cranberry Wensley Dale, Stagberry Salami, and Duck Prosciutto. The charcuterie board was served with bread slices, mustards, almonds, walnuts, figs, olives, apple slices, and gherkins. This was one of the best charcuterie boards that we have had in a while. To drink, my wife had a glass of "Alasia" (Moscato d'Asti) and I had a glass of "Crested Porcupine" (Pinot Noir). We were very happy with our wines! Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to the Wine & Tapas Bar and we would definitely return the next time we're visiting our cousins in Summerville. read more

When we walked in there are seats at the bar, a few tabled seating along the side and some comfy couches towards the back. We were told to sit wherever we pleased and someone would be with us. We sat at the comfy couches. However, I think I would prefer to sit at the bar or tables because I felt the waitress forgot about us a few times. Besides that everyone was super friendly and helpful. Used to frequent this place, for a reason. Over the past 2 years it has gone downhill in a major way. The $48 charcuterie board was so so sad. Portions have been cut in half and tonight maybe a quarter of what it once was. The beer cheese was a crowd favorite with the baguette, pita bread and peppers. We were served the "cheese" with a handful of bread with broken and sour cheese and a smell radiating off of it that had to be covered up. The cocktails were great though! Cold brew martinis and the autumn White Russian were alright. And the whole area by the bathroom smelled in general. No ownership or explanation about what happened with the food by service. Our family of four last had dinner there during summer, 2022. Excellent meal, good value and live music. The four of us went there last Monday, Jan 16, 2023. Food quality (particularly charcuterie which is their specialty) was poor and portions were less than half (yes "less than half") what we had during the summer; we had to supplement with food at home after leaving the restaurant. Three desserts were listed on a printed menu, yet they waited until we ordered dessert before telling us "no desserts were available". Drove past here a few months ago and told my wife, "we should try that place when we can find a babysitter." This past Monday we finally got to do it. My wife did the wine tasting (for only $10, it's a very generous pour), I had a Lagavulin and 2 sour beers. Our server was great- her and my wife hit it off because her suggestions were spot on. The quick bite turned into three hours of a great time with great wine and food. The servers were excellent and really knew what they were talking about when it came to the wines and tapas on the menu. The server recommended the Dugal heavy red wine for the ladies and it was exactly what we were looking for! The men tried the local meads and had nothing but good things to say about them. The Moscow mule mead was the favorite, with the very unique flavor of a mule but light and bubbly like a champagne. The meats and cheeses did not disappoint either. I've eyed this little gem for awhile now and finally I visited with my nephew. Wine and Tapasprovides such an intimate, upscale setting. Step aside Accents on Wine because there's a new place in town... and right across the street as a matter of fact. Don't get me wrong, I do like Accents on Wine but Wine & Tapas really impressed me this past weekend. First of all, I love the separation between the bar and the seating area. This divides it in a way where you can either sit at the bar or mingle around the bar or you can step into the next room behind the bar and be seated at a table for a more intimate experience. We decided on a table, right in view of their beautiful wine wall. The service was great and this was what initially impressed me. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the wines they carried and how to recommend wines based on your taste. Not all wine bars offer this level of hospitality believe it or not. They also offer tastings before you decide on a full glass to ensure you are getting a wine you like. After tasting two sweet wines I decided on the Sangria. A great one at that! They also offer a good beer selection. We ordered two dishes, the beef empanadas and caprese salad. Both beautifully presented, delicious and reasonably priced. Just by these two dishes I can tell that they take pride in not only their wines but their food as well. This is my least favorite place downtown. I'm Summerville local. I tend to travel with a few friends and so there's never any place to sit. You can possibly sit four or five abreast at the bar.Boo. The wine selection is second to none in the area, which is a fantastic thing. But to me, the best part of the wine bar is the level of knowledge the servers had. The suggestions made for both my wife and I were spot on. Giving just a brief description of the wines we typically like the server was able to line up a few tastings of different wines. This allowed us to be 100% satisfied with the final selection. The food was also quite good. Not expecting anything more than the typical, charcuterie and bruschetta, I was surprised to see empanadas on the menu. While the idea of Tapas is a Spanish thing, I wasn't expecting to fine Hispanic food. Now don't get me wrong, this is a great thing. And even better was how good they were. What a fantastic find for a night out in Summerville, SC! Looked for something local that was open past 9pm, and this spot fit the bill, and then some! The owner was super-knowledgeable about the wines he has in stock, and wasn't pretentious about his knowledge (like you may find in other wine bars). He walked us around his cellar in the restaurant, giving his take on great wines from multiple wine regions from around the world, as well as breaking down interesting tidbits about the grapes used in different regions & answering any questions we had about certain varieties. If you're not into wine, they also have a nice selection of craft beers in bottles and a few on tap. We didn't get around to trying their Tapas offerings, but there were some mouth-watering options to choose from, as well as good wine-pairing options to go along with your glasses of vino!
