It is a great restaurant if you care about the food taste and affordability. It is a bad restaurant if you care about the atmosphere and decorations. The service is good and prompt. We had three dishes for two: Gui Fei Chicken, fried sticky rice and garlic giant mussels. All are amazing! The total price is around $30 before tax and tips. Wings Kitchen seems pretty sketchy at first glance. It's on the fringe of Chinatown, down a side street, literally in the basement. When you enter, there are pretty much only four tables. If you get a big group, they definitely do take reservations. You go down a set of dark, dingy stairs, and the space is pretty small. The menu is pretty extensive and very typically Cantonese. I would definitely recommend the salted fish fried rice and the garlic spareribs. They also serve a lot of their dishes in actual clay pots. Wing's Kitchen is BYOB, and you'll often see tables with alcohol either openly on the table, or hidden in a paper bag. They're pretty tolerant of any kind of alcohol (hard spirits are fine, from my experience) as long as you tone it down and keep it respectful (there are families here as well). It's popular among the college crowd, so it definitely gets very rowdy at times. Pretty solid Cantonese food and a BYOB policy! Don't let the sketchy storefront turn you away from this place. read more

Ordered the Chiu Chow combination appetizer, Black mushroom cassarole rice, omelette mixed with preserved turnip, Peking Ravioli, and mushroom sautee with tofu. The only dish I would recommend is probably the Chiu Chow combo appetizer, other dishes I tried were decent, but just like any other Chinese restaurant. There are a lot of Cantonese Chinese restaurants in Boston's Chinatown, some specialize in Chinese barbecue, some specialize in dim sum, some specialize in Hong Kong style breakfast, some specialize in seafood, and some specialize in just noodle and rice dishes. What makes this place special? I usually come here for one certain dish, which is... 潮式蒜香骨 (Chiu Sik Suen Heung Gwat) - Spare ribs in Garlic Sauce This is spare ribs that are fried to a crispy texture, and seasoned with a lot of fried garlic. It may be greasy, but it is tasty, and can go well with rice or noodles. They are also a great complement if you are holding a house party with some friends and if you are drinking a lot of good alcoholic beverages. It may be expensive at around $13 per dish, but portions are enough for 4+ people. If you order 3 of these dishes for a large party that has alcoholic beverages, they are an excellent alternative to chicken wings. As for other dishes, their portions are excellent and their simple dishes are tasty. One dish I liked to get often is their 粟米斑球飯 (Suk Mai Ban Kau Fan), which is fish mixed with a corn sauce with rice. This dish is enough for a light dinner for 2 people and it is under $10. I really liked the texture of the sauce and the fish was good. It may not be the best dish I had in Chinatown, but the portions are excellent. Their 乾炒牛河 (Gon Chao Ngau Ho), or Dry Fried Beef Chow Foon noodle dish is also a good choice if you want a noodle dish with large portions enough for a group of people. This dish is under $10 and one dish should be more than enough to fill your stomach. This place is located in a basement, and it's definitely one of the smaller restaurants in Boston's Chinatown, but it's a fairly good setting for a somewhat quiet "one-on-one" appointment or if you really want a really small group dinner for up to six people. Overall, this is a really good choice if you want to eat at a small and somewhat quiet restaurant in Boston's Chinatown. Authentic, delicious, and no-frills Cantonese food. Come for the signature chicken (comes in whole, half, or quarter w/ rice) and ask for extra ginger scallion sauce. My other favorites include the sizzling sausage claypot rice, the minced pork & string beans lettuce wrap, and sautéed garlic pea shoots (for the veggie lovers!). The menu is extensive, so if you can read Chinese, I would recommend looking at the recommendations / specialties posted on the wall. They make it from scratch, so be prepared to wait for 20mins for the rice. My friend and I also split an order of mui choy kau yuk (preserved vegetable with pork belly). I loved this place! Small mom and pop shop, some what underground and run by a mom and a pop! What more can you ask for? oh wait... the food. The food is Excellent! I loved everything we ordered. When ever my fiance and I want chinese we want to be here again munching on their cold tofu appetizer, having some short ribs and great meatballs. The only problem is I live in VA!!! The service is great, the ambience well...i love it and the prices are very minimal. What you must order: -Cut up string beans and ground pork in lettuce wrap. They make it the best here -Beef and Chinese Broccoli. Their flank steak pieces are so tender and juicy! -Pea Pod Stems if you are a veggie lover. -They are also known for their Empress Chicken. -If you like spice, ask for their homemade chili oil! It is BOMB. -If you like seafood, there is a conch, scallop and vermicelli dish that comes in a large shell at $5 a piece too. They even serve em traditionally on napa cabbage leaves. If you're feeling adventurous, try the fermented bamboo (which you can trick people into thinking is armadillo tails), pickled egg and cold tofu. Other than the dumpling balls and the cold dishes my tastebuds haven't staked their claim, but order what's above and you're guaranteed an oral parteeeeeeee. BUT....if you do happen to be there one day and find the tables a little empty, step inside and do try the Shanghai wild grass soup, spicy cabbage, bamboo shoots, aged eggs w/ tofu, cold pork with garlic sauce, golden Chinese buns, or, the ever so tempting crab xiao long bao. Service was great, food was fantastic, atmosphere caught me off guard but I loved everything about coming here! I was sat at a large table with other guests, which threw me off for a second, considering i was there alone. But people were super nice, and it was a really pleasant experience! There are other tables that seat 4, but none were available when I arrived. I panicked looking at the menu, though I'm still not sure why. I think Americanized Chinese food has set me up with some expectations that just don't hold up in a place that does traditional Cantonese food. Haha! A server recommended the spicy pork chop rice plate, and I loved it! The pork was some of the best I've ever had! And the only spicy bits were some chopped pepper that I could have avoided VERY easily if I wanted to. So I'd suggest it to anyone nervous about getting something unexpected. The pork was sliced and fried, which might be the norm, but I just didn't expect it because I am (in my own words) an uncultured American trying to expand my plate. When this place was owned by the original proprietor, they served by far some of the most amazingly scrumptious food in Chinatown. Sadly, his wife died, and he moved back to Shanghai, so this restaurant is under new ownership, and the food has gone straight down the tubes. It's not awful, it's just your average run of the mill Chinese restaurant menu - gone are the amazing melt in your mouth spicy pork chops, the unique and flavorful rice cake with shanghai wild vegetable, the yummy vinegary dumplings, and the hot oil chicken. I went there sunday dec 11, 2016 for a sweet n sour pork take out to be brought to work the next day for lunch. So i scoop up some to be heated and when im about to eat them to my surprise that every piece that i got is all FAT , im shocked. 5pcs is all fats not even a little meat is in those 5pcs that i heat up. So the next day i also scoop out another batch to be heated and started to eat, again its still the same. I called them up and she told me its common that sweet n sour pork has fats unless i ordered another kind of meat . I know they have fats but not totally 1pc meat all fats at least half of it only. This is to warn u guys to not go there, they are just fooling customers. How can u say u cannot choose which meat u are cooking because it is coated. Out of the ordinary, but not for me. The veggie dumplings are good, but oily-if you're in the mood for that. This place seats 20 maybe, but I can't imagine it being full. We ate here this past Saturday during lunch and it was only half full. It may e due to the basement location, but shouldn't that make it some kind of hidden gem? The dished were definitely different, maybe even authentic but this place is expensive for what you get. The portions are really small and my eggplant was served with preserved vegetables chopped into it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. My friends liked their dishes, all home style foods, but shouldn't that mean it is priced reasonably? Overall, dingy "authentic" place I didn't like. Update- I did not do due dilligence in eating enough foods to get a sense of what this restaurant is all about. YAK!! I came here today and almost wanted to throw-up afterwards, and am utterly shocked by the rave reviews given by yelpers. This is probably one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to, but keep in mind, I lived in San Francisco and Los Angeles (where the Chinese food is beyond comparison). Where do I start? For the appetizer, my parents and I ordered the spicy pig stomach. It was drenched, completely soaked and marinated for days in soy sauce (and it sure wasn't light soy sauce). The dish was SO salty, I almost spit it out. Even after we tried to eat it with rice, it was still unbearable. We also ordered dan dan mein, which was absolutely the worse dan dan mein I've ever tasted. Frankly, it was WEIRD. It was served as a soup (never had it like that before), had a lot of garlic (I love garlic, but they way they added it here was not normal), and they used thin rice noodles ("mei fun", which was really odd). Yes, I agree the rice cake with cabbage and pork was good... but the prior two dishes already left a bad taste in my mouth. After dinner, my parents' stomach were not feeling good and they had to rush to the bathroom to excrete it all out (no joke). I LOVE hole-in-the-wall places, but the food here was not edible. The reviews for this place all seem a bit dated because Wing's does not serve soup dumplings. However, they are now known for their EMPRESS CHICKEN, which is a style of steamed whole chicken that is supposed to be very tender. As I sat in the very small restaurant for a late lunch today, I'd say they sold about 10 of those chickens to Chinese families taking it to go for their own dinners later that night. So that's a sure sign that I need to come back here for their chicken again. What I had: - fried dumplings/potstickers- all the reviews I was reading mentioned dumplings, so I asked what kind they had. They have some solid thick skinned fried dumplings that are not trying to be anything but standard potstickers. Meaning they were really delicious and satisfying. - sauteed string beans- solid, addictive, spicy - yu xiang eggplant- this was okay. I had better. - chicken, mushroom, and chinese sausage rice hot pot casserole- THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE IN CHINATOWN THAT I'VE SEEN SO FAR THAT USES CLAY POTS. This is big news, people! The places that use metal pots do not allow for the burnt/crispy rice layer on the bottom, but clay pots definitely do. Their soy sauce mix is also great (aka I'm never eating hot pot casseroles at HK Eatery again). So coming back here for both a takeout empress chicken and another hot pot casserole! --update: changing from 4 to 3 stars. Not too bad. They certainly have a lot of dishes offered here, but I thought it was a little heavy and salty than I expected. That being said, the food did taste good and the waitress was prompt and polite. The restaurant is very small and i think had 4 tables total, but it was Thursday night so we were able to get a seat no problem. Cantonese food is served here. I wish I had time to eat at other restaurants in Chinatown to compare, but my friend said this is a good one in Chinatown. Whenever I venture into to Chinatown I find myself inexorably pulled to this little Shanghai outpost. One man serves the role of host and waiter, and he does so with great competence and reserve. His restaurant is quite small, with seating for thirty or so. It is also clean and orderly, in stark contrast to some of its neighbors. Wing's has the best General Gau's Chicken I've ever had. Before coming here, I assumed that the dish always consisted of grotesquely large pieces of chicken, battered, fried and then coated in a thick, syrupy, and cloyingly sweet sauce. Of course I was wrong though, real Generals could never stomach such a dish let a lone lend their name to it. At Wings Kitchen you'll find the genuine article, here the dish features small morsels of chicken, in a crisp batter, topped with a delicious sauce that's not too sweet, and accompanied by crisp green beans. I went there with my Grandmother today and sadly, our pathetic stomaches only allowed us to try 3 dishes. I had the stir fried rice cake with pork and cabbage, and my grandmother had the rice cake soup with pork and cabbage. The soup was perfect as far as Chinese soups go. It's flavored primarily by the pork and vegetables, and not heavily seasoned with salt or MSG. The Rice cakes on both versions were dense, very glutenous and had a nice bite to it. The stir fried version I got was covered, but not drenched in a brown, soy sauce based sauce. Like a good salad, it wasn't runny and the sauce never pooled on the bottom of the plate. It also wasn't thick and goopy with corn starch the way many stir fry rice cake dishes are. Why anyone would add cornstarch to the super starchy rice cakes is completely beyond me. In short, the rice cake dishes were clean and tasty. The last thing we ordered was the XLB. I've had XLB in various Dim Sum places around, and the gourmet dumpling house (though I have yet to try the ones at taiwan cafe) and the contrast to Wing's is pretty noticeable. Wing's XLB reminded me of the tourist trap dumplings I had in Shanghai, which might sound like an insult, but those were good dumplings so I mean only the best. The filling is very light in flavor in comparison to the fillings of most other places where the pork balls are pink with soy sauce or contain minced garlic. It seems like the filling in Wing's is just seasoned with a little salt and MSG. There also is a fair, but not obscene amount of juice in the buns. I have to say that the XLB at Wing's are the best I've had in the area, but perhaps those who prefer bolder flavors would disagree with me. The food here is cleaner than most of the corn starch drenched dinner dishes in C. Town. I will most certainly be back when I crave more delicate, lightly seasoned dishes. It isn't a very attractive place though. The street corner smells quite bad, and you get some of that sewage aroma inside sometimes, which is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. read more
