I have visited Winslow's Tavern twice, with very mixed experiences. I went there for dinner in June of 2010, and was extremely impressed overall. The service was excellent, particularly considering that it was a packed summer night, and the food was very well executed; although the tomato salad I began with was not at all original in flavor profile or presentation, my duck confit had a melty, tender texture, and the accompanying pommes de terre a la sarladaise were well-prepared. My dining partner's steak frites was excellent as well -- cooked properly to order. I was very impressed by the wine list, and my server was very capable in recommending accompanying wines. Remembering how much I enjoyed my dinner last summer, I returned recently for lunch, and was not pleased at all. I had a lobster, prosciutto, and tomato panini with saffron aioli, while my dining partner had a Kobe beef burger with crisped prosciutto and gorgonzola dolce. My panini was poorly executed. The sourdough bread was of good quality, but by the time it made it out to me the saffron aioli had made it a little soggy. The contrast of flavor between the saffron aioli (one dimensional and flat) and the lobster was unpleasant; essentially, there had been an unfresh, plain mayonnaise-based lobster salad slapped between two pieces of bread with similarly unfresh prosciutto and the confusing saffron aioli. Very unsatisfying. My dining partner ordered his burger medium-rare, but it arrived well-done: a crime against good beef! The french fries that came with both orders were tossed with cheap parmesan and tasted like they came from a frozen bag. I am hoping that my second experience was just an off day in the kitchen; the dinner that I had last summer was worth every cent, but the lunch was not at all worth what was being charged for it -- at all. read more

The first thing we noticed about this restaurant was how good the water was. Scrumptious water. The bread was good also, however, we were disappointed to learn that the butter lettuce did not come buttered. Furthermore, the bathroom was rather dark, so we had trouble finding the toilet. My husband and I have been coming to Welfleet for twenty years now; first alone, then with kids, and now as empty nesters. Winslow's has always been one of our must have vacation dinners. Unfortunately, tonight's experience wasn't what we've come to expect. While the wait staff was attentive, smart and relaxed, the food was less than exceptional. The mignonette for the oysters tasted like unadulterated pickle juice and the cucumber was in chunks, rather than in the delicate bits a mignonette requires. I had the lobster gnocchi which was confusing; why create a lovely soupy sauce and pair it with small rubbery gnocchi rather than with the bread we had to order and pay extra for? The description in the menu included peach, but the dish itself was marred by unripe plums. Though my dish was disappointing, my husband's striped bass was nicely cooked. However, it was served with what seemed to be whipped cream, at least that was the flavor profile. We have had many wonderful meals at Winslow's, let's hope this was just a bad Saturday night. read more

Beautiful setting; unfortunately table was in the back patio near the kitchen exhaust fans. Portions were ridiculously small and certainly not worth the price . When complained was handed a free appetizer card. Waitresses were mediocre. Three of our guests had food poisoning!!!! read more

Wellfleet is a pleasant town in which to dine, and I can't think of a better place than the Winslow Tavern! The food was tasty but it was a pretty loud place. Perhaps this is a testament to its popularity. read more

I used yelp to find this place, and I was 100% pleased! I can not wait to go back! We were able to eat out on the terrace and was waited on by a very polite waiter. The food was excellent! Did I say I cant wait to go back? Just thinking of the food, I am salivating! We had the Maryland crabcakes, pesto Wellfleet oysters,, shrinp and scallop skews, and the cod and potatoe dishes, and everything was made to perfection! I had read the white sangrias were a must to try, so of course, had to try - and that too was incredible as I had read! The atmosphere, the people, the food, a great combination that cant go wrong! Wicked good Chowdah! I have eaten here for Lunch, Dinner and Happy Hour. The Chowder was spot on! Creamy but not to thick ,and full of delicious and tender clams. I had the roasted cod entree and the cod was cooked perfectly. My only issue with the cod was the filet was skin side down which made it soggy and therefore a bit unappetizing. I also wish they had taken the time to remove the skins of the tomatoes as well. I found the cooked skins tough, and made the roasted tomato sauce less appealing. There is good variety on the menu with something to please everyone. Most entrees range between $18-$26 which is fair. The portions are generous and the quality is good. Dinner service was friendly and attentive but a bit slow. The sever very politely informed us there was a rehearsal dinner that night that was holding things up in the kitchen. All and all not too bad of a wait considering we were a party of 5 with no reservation. The server was quick to bring us our drink order. She also brought some assorted olives and well as freshly baked foccacia bread that helped to take the edge off our wait. The upstairs bar has a very cozy and rustic New England feel. This is a great place for enjoying the happy hour specials. I recommend the local Wellfleet oysters. Yum yum! Winslow's also has ample outdoor seating, perfect for dinning al fresco! read more

This is a pleasant spot in Wellfleet, and people have enjoyed a number of dishes there. But the "Winslow's 'BLT'" ("prosciutto, lobster and tomato panini with a saffron aioli") is an inspired and even superlative sandwich. I'm not usually a big lobster guy, but this is an amazing combination of textures and flavors: a member of the sandwich pantheon. read more

Where to start? This was a cute little restaurant and we were seated fairly quickly. We had to wait a little bit for our waitress to bring water to the table. That said after they brought the water they also brought some very tasty bread. After, I ordered a hamburger and my wife ordered chicken paillard. The presentation overall was nice but the food was not. My hamburger I could tell had been overly processed and was not fresh meat, it was definitely frozen. My wife's chicken was barely seasoned and also tasted of the freezer. I'd say this restaurants only redeeming quality would be its charm and it's bread which is why I gave it two stars. read more

We found this gem by accident and are so glad that we did. From the moment we walked in, we knew we were going to have a great dinner. We arrived around 6pm and were seated quickly. Our server, Callum, helped us with drink choices and appetizers. Must haves...Wellfleet Oysters, and hardboiled eggs with smoked fish dip. The second one may sound odd, but they are amazing. I had a special of char grilled pork belly with butter braised radishes, cauliflower puree, and rainbow chard. It wasn't the sort of dinner I expected to eat in a seafood town, but it was exceptional. We finished with an apple galette with apple puree and vanilla ice cream. Everything.....drinks, food, dessert, service and atmosphere were superb. We will definitely be back to Winslow's on our next trip to P-town from Atlanta. read more

I thought the food, service, and atmosphere were perfect for a large family dinner. I love this restaurant, how it's situated in an old house behind huge, old trees... very romantic and relaxing to dine there. We were seated in a smaller dining room by ourselves since we had a lot of people, and it was lovely to have the room to ourselves, yet still be able to feel part of the rest of the lively restaurant. The food, especially the beet salad, was delicious and I will definitely be back next time I visit Wellfleet! read more

Great waitstaff. Horrible kitchen/management. Unaccommodating to requests. Steak frites ordered mid-rare arrived well done, Kitchen argued that is "their version of mid-rare", redo came out completely cold and raw in center. Additionally, meat just looked terrible and old. Not fresh at all. Management never came over to apologize or try and discuss problem, instead leaving it to the helpless server to sort out. read more

We enjoyed lunch here twice, and we were staying up in P'Town. It is worth the drive down to enjoy the different ways they prepare oysters. The outside patio was just beautiful and overlooks everything that is going on in the little town here. The restaurant is so pretty and it wasn't that busy. Ate here recently, this restaurant is extremely overpriced - it was a cool Summer night - outdoor heaters were not working as in, they did not have back up propane tanks. Pasta was sub par - for $20 the portion was small, not hot and had no intelligent chef flavor - blahhhhhhh. Bowl of soup is $14. There are other places - this place needs to get their act together - reminds me that some restaurants exist to be a cash cow for the owner existing merely out of prime location and a front terrace - there is no real interest in providing a restaurant with food integrity here - neglect looms here. We chose Winslow's Tavern for a wedding rehearsal dinner after dining there a year before. They created a custom menu at no extra charge. We started with drinks and appetizers on the patio. It was cool that evening so they had placed heaters for our comfort. It was lovely. The food was incredible. The attention to detail and in season fresh ingredients was much noticed. We ate here last summer, and it was absolutely delicious. The outdoor seating is beautiful and romantic. There's a great mix of couples and families, and it is exactly the type of environment you're looking for in Wellfleet. This time around, however, the food was mediocre, and the service worse. The server was very slow to greet us, to bring our water and drinks, and to take our order. We had to flag her down every time for every step. I ordered a green salad with grilled chicken. First, my salad was brought out before my boyfriend's meal and without chicken. I asked my server where the chicken was and she told me that it hadn't finished being grilled yet. I looked at her in confusion and she rolled her eyes at me and walked off. Then,the grilled chicken was brought out with my boyfriend's burger. Again, our server was mystified about why a grilled chicken salad should be brought out with both the salad and the chicken at the same time. To add insult to injury, that little combination was about $25. As for my boyfriend's burger, it was dry and tasteless. All in all, this meal wasn't worth the nearly $100 we were charged. We won't be back, and neither will our families and friends, who own homes in Wellfleet. Such a shame! read more

We dined at Winslow's outdoors on the front lawn and truly enjoyed our meals of cod and the risotto. Both were terrific, but my goodness, the risotto was heavenly. I went into the dining room to see the interior and it's clear that the Owner/Manager is meticulous with beautiful flowers and arrangements throughout an inviting and well-appointed room. The restaurant is also very well-staffed with servers and bussing crew as we never waited for service. What a pleasure. Highly recommend. read more

2 of the 3 of us were happy with our food (tomato pasta and angus burger). The n'duja pasta was underwhelming. The glass of summer cocktail was great but the wine pour was so weak. I don't recommend ordering a glass of wine here. I have been coming to this place since it opened years ago and was generally disappointed. Keep this place as a happy hour place. Not sure what was worse the owner kicking my party of 9 out (4 of them children) or that she and her "bodyguard " edging and slamming the door on my brother's face. Let me give you a recap of our 50 minutes in the restaurant because after all that's how fast we were served drinks, appetizers and main course. It was 8 pm when we arrived and the restaurant was pretty much EMPTY. The waitress started out ok, was friendly but she was very pushy to get orders in. We were asking questions about the menu because my husband has gluten allergy and it didn't seem like she knew enough to recommend what dishes the kitchen could accommodate. Needless to say he didn't order an entree but did have some oysters and some of the appetizers. After the group placed orders they arrived in 10 minutes. Really you can cook lamb chops, burgers and the other meals in that short time. The waitress never came back to ask how our meals were. The bus girl did but that was it. The waitress only came back in to ask if we wanted dessert and then she was gone to get our check. She was quick to say that the gratuity was already included in the bill, which I had no problem with. At that time we said to her that the lamb chops were horrible she was quick to say well if you told me in time I could have brought them back or ordered something else. We told her you never came back to check on us. At that point we asked to speak to the manager/owner and that's when Miss personality came in. She already came in with an attitude that we were bothering her. My sister explained how our meal went down, the server never came back to check on us. The manager/owner got defensive right away and said that she would remove the lamb entree and the gratuity from the bill BUT we did NOT ask for that. Little did the manager know we all work in the food industry and one of us owning a restaurant in Boston. We know it's not always easy to deal with the public. The owner went on a rant how she would not let us insult the waitress and that the waitress is working during the pandemic 12 hour shifts. Does she know that she can't do that. ?? I have never in all my years of eating out or even in my waitressing years seen an owner act like that! I normally don't write reviews being in the industry myself we all can have bad days. My husband works in the medical field so don't use the pandemic as an excuse that we were not being sympathetic to the waitress. Even a one star is generous rating! My wife and I had a great lunch at Winslow's today. Sat out on the shady patio.The gazpacho was flavorful, with a hot pesto. I had a wonderful grilled scallop roll -- it's as if I'd never eaten scallops before, very tender and tasty. And the French fries had bits of rosemary. Very nice touch. This is a great Cape Cod restaurant, and we had a great meal and fine experience. Our server was friendly, knowledgable and there when we needed her, gone when we didn't. Try the Cod and the Lobster Linguini, both were excellent. We started with a half dozen Wellfleet oysters and a bowl of chowder, fantastic on both counts. We've been going here for years and the food is consistently great. The seating outdoors is lovely but so is the interior with lots of room between tables and open windows with breezes. Try the mussels or the shrimp and scallop skewers. Reasonably priced for what you get. read more

Service & food are always excellent- family owned and always present - watching to assure quality. We eat here as often as possible durning our too-short summer visits to Wellfleet. The corn risotto is beyond compare- sweet with just just the right-bite kernels. Scallops perfectly cooked- cod dish delicious and salads beautifully plated. You can purchase the deliciously preserved olives in small mason jars, as a reminder of a beautiful meal served on a grassy knoll, surrounded by twinkly lights. read more

Atmosphere and patio were wonderful - a very cute place. Ordered the crab cake appetizer which was delicious - the problem for me was the entree. I ordered the risotto and was so disappointed to find it undercooked seeing as it cost $26. I ended up only eating the scallops and leaving the risotto. In 3 years of Cape Cod dining experiences some fine and not so fine Winslows tops the bottom of my list! Single worst dining experience in my life. Group of 7 and 6 of us had to flog ourselves to finish the meal. Side bar: our 7th diner hates fish and has been eating chicken fingers all week so collectively we decided she doesn't receive a vote. All meat entrees were flavorless. Service was poor and it was very hot inside. To finalize this awful dining experience they started stacking plates with steak knives unsteadily over my baby's head. We got the check and they already added 18% gratuity. Probably a wise choice or the wait staff would go hungry. We rushed out the door and we're driving to Wendy's to get a frosty to cleanse our palate. read more
