What a great Lunch Today at Winslow's, we had made a reservation and our table was ready and waiting. Our waiter was very patient with a large group that had trouble deciding, he was attentive throughout and when the meals came out, other staff assisted so that you felt the meals were coming out quickly but not in a frantic way. The perfect restaurant for a leisurely lunch, and a great choice for a group with many different menu requirements. Wonderful clam chowder, a bit of a departure from the rest of the restaurants in town, with a bit more flavour and lovely roasted corn. Presentation was great especially of the chocolate mousse dessert, with flowers and sauce. I had the lobster BLT, delicious with prosciutto, and a nice side side salad. Everyone's meals looked great and everyone enjoyed them! Winslow's garden is lovely, and the building is very well kept up, it feels fresh and charming. Very accommodating, it did not throw them to put our check on many different credit cards. We will be back! read more

This restaurant was the first place I've been to in 4 months, and it couldn't have been a better way to kick off eating out again. The wait was close to an hour, but I understand why. The food was delicious, and the service was fast. The place was busy, but everyone wasn't close together, and we ate outside. All the servers wore masks, and were very professional. The oysters, mussels, meatballs, and clam chowder were very good, and I highly recommend the Tiramisu and Key Lime pie for dessert. You have the option to sit inside where all the tables are very far apart, but eating outside was delightful. Everything was worth the wait! read more

My family and I came here for dinner the other night. The ambiance of this place pretty and relaxing. My family and i sat outside. The place itself looks just like a house, and seems to have some interesting history behind it! The outside chairs were pretty comfy. However, i was overall disappointed with service and the food. we got three half dozens of oysters (regular, miso chive, tabasco). the flavors were great, but the shucker didnt shuck them the best. i kept spitting out a lot of shell. also a little expensive for the flavored oysters (18$ for 6). regular oysters were on ice, the tabasco on rocks, and miso chive on seaweed (which is weird). service wasnt very quick, and didnt come to table too often. the patatas were good, but the sauce is what made the dish come together. cant really go wrong with some cheese and potatoes. salads werent very big, although they spread the salad out on a big plate to appear like a big salad. my family got the apple pear salad, and found the gorgonzola to be a weird addition to them. the lobster croquetas werent very big either, but they were decent. the food was overall okay, but there are other places id rather go. we got the tiramisu, key lime pie, and panna-cotta for desserts (we had high hopes for the desserts). the desserts were at least pretty delicious, but food and overall service wasnt that great. as tasty as the desserts were, i probably won't be going back. read more

Thanks, we always dine at Winslow's when visiting Wellfleet over the years. Last evening I enjoyed one of the best Old Fashions I have ever had "Islay" old fashion. The service was amazing, Lilly introduced herself, shared a little something about herself , being a resident she was delightful. I am a pescatarian so it's alway a challenge for the Kitchen. I ordered the shrimp pasta off the special's menu. I asked if they could grill my shrimp as the special menu said the shrimp was sautéed in butter, yummy but I don't eat butter. Lilly asked and the Kitchen responded that they would be happy to grill the shrimp, awesome. Unfortunately the dish was too sweet, needed something to offset the sweet. The black pasta was mushy, my wife had the same dish & barely touched hers. She picked at the squash Speer's and ate two pieces of bread . We were very disappointed in this dish. Our other family members enjoyed the seafood ravioli and the mussels. We will return but think the shrimp pasta needs some fine tuning. My sister and I happened in on this restaurant last month and since then I have been back 3 times! The food is delicious and looks gorgeous. I had the kale Caesar and the crab cakes. Crab cakes were virtually all crab! And the kale Caesar was big and had a delicious home made dressing. My sister had the gazpacho and the chicken salad. Loved them both! The tiramisu was sublime and the wine list was excellent. The staff was professional while still being sweet and when I broke a wine glass (ugh) they could not have been nicer. The atmosphere I positively charming reminding me of outdoor cafes in Paris, tree lined and breezy. Truly an excellent experience every time. read more

I enjoyed everything I had: The Summertime drink (had two, YEAH!!!), the pear walnut salad, the raw tuna with watermelon, the shrimp pizza and the veggie panini. I contemplated a one star rating. We went for dinner tonight and, start to finish, every part of our meal was a disappointment. While the outdoor patio seating remains gorgeous, the ambiance cannot override how tasteless our meals were. We skipped the long wait for an outside table and sat inside. Service was slow because there was only one server for the entire downstairs area. We ordered white sangria and a white wine. The white sangria tasted like peach schnapps and was very light in flavor. To start we had the special crudo - striped bass with jalapeño emulsion, yuzu citrus and roe with English cucumber. There was absolutely no flavor to this dish other than olive oil and roe. Next were the roasted oysters with miso chive butter. These were extremely rich in butter taste, but failed to deliver anything more. I remembered loving the clam chowder and was terribly disappointed there too. We all ordered a cup of the chowder and were served luke warm cream with little to no flavor. There were a couple pieces of clam, but this was nothing like the chowder I remember from last summer. We then had the angel hair, which is noted to be a favorite by the pineapple next to it on the menu. It was hands down terrible. Over cooked, mushy angel hair pasta drenched in oily sauce that failed to deliver the promise of garlic and white wine. The pasta was covered in scallops, shrimp and mussels which gave the pasta a "less than fresh" smell. The scallops were cooked well, but had sand in them. The shrimp were undercooked and not fresh. I didn't eat the mussels. To top this all off, the prices were just too high for the quality of food being served. Since there are so few spots in town, I imagine we may give this a whirl again next summer, but only for lunch and the outside patio. That way if the food remains this bad, we can just have a sandwich and ice tea. read more

I took my family tonight for dinner at Winslows. When we made reservation we told them that we had 2 young children in our group. At dinnertime, they had set aside a table in a separate room so the noise would not bother any of the other patrons. we were sp appreciative of this as our children can be quite disruptive at times. The service was excellent and the food was great. I ordered scallops, mussels, and shrimp over angel hair which was delicious. Their clam chowder was also one of the best I have ever had. I actually counted the 10 gnocchi that were in the dish and after I finished the adequate meal in 2 minutes I was forced to fill up on the leftover bread. One Saturday down the Cape, my girlfriend and I decided to enjoy a throwback evening and enjoy a drive-in movie. Wellfleet has the only remaining drive-in on Cape Cod (single tear slowly slides down cheek) so off to Wellfleet we go! First we stopped at Winslow's tavern, a cute (did I just say cute?) building in the heart of Wellfleet that just screams Cape Cod. Outside seating in the garden was the obvious choice, so we were seated on one of the wire tables with crickets chirping and dusk falling in the middle of a well manicured garden right outside a historic Cape Cod tavern. This is going to be great! We started with drinks and oysters (I thought they were a little tiny but still fresh enough), and I had the amazing basil lemonade vodka concoction that was worth the trip from Brewster alone. Wow. Freshly squeezed lemonade, basil and just the right amount of vodka, I kid you not this drink was fantastic. Next we ordered two bowls of clam chowder and an order of their curry mussels to share. Then we waited. And waited. Finally, our waitress! "Umm...can we have some bread?" my girlfriend very politely asks "Oh sure! Says the waitress. "No problem!" She arrived with the bread and then came back shortly with....one bowl of clam chowder. She was holding in with both her hands (a good sized bowl) so I thought "maybe she is going to come back with the other" Nope. Nothing. So we waited... and waited, and when I finally saw our waitress again I flagged her down. "Um...we ordered two bowls of clam chowder." "Oh I am so sorry!" I'll be right back! After that little mishap (which made no sense to me, I asked for two bowls of clam chowder and then the mussels to come afterwards...did she think I was going to force my girlfriend to watch me eat? We enjoyed a nice bowl of chowder. Nothing special, but fine (though I will freely admit I am a clam chowder snob). After a few more minutes come the mussels, with three small pieces of grilled bread (a pet peeve of mine, what is it with this place and bread?). The mussels were ok, but 9 of them (I counted!) were still closed. One, fine, two, ok but nine! Nine unopened mussels! I send them back to be reopened out of principal. "Do you want to go upstairs and have another drink?" I asked my girlfriend, who was excited to return to the place she had been before and really enjoyed. "No....let's just go." They say you can tell how good a restaurant is from the bread they serve and this place is no exception. Everything is exceptional starting with the warm focaccia they put out to snack on to the creamy yet light clam chowder and the savory lobster linguine right down to the decadent chocolate mousse. I'm going to keep my comment's to the bar which is upstairs and not the restaurant itself. The bar is definitely comfortable with booths and couches and it nice being able to go out side to the patio looking out over main street, and they are one of the few places in town to have a tab running which is wicked convenient and liable to end up costing you more than you originally thought. The bar tenders are nice i had one chase out after me after one of my friends left something behind. Basically its great place to go if your looking for a more relaxed evening in the summer. That said there are a few things that get to me as being odd. First the drafts are $4.30... let me repeat that $4.30 as in for dollars a quarter and a nickel or three dimes depending. Put it this way i feel bad when i hand the bartender a five and he gets a 70 cent tip come on that's just mickey mouse all other bars in town charge $4 a nice even number hell even $4.25 would be better. So what do you do tip them 70 cents or scrounge out another dollar and give them 1.70 or take the change and fill your pocket with it. I don't know they should just charge an even price all ready. Oh one other thing the bathroom has a chair in it, an actual honest to god chair, how odd is that. read more

Winslow's has a great location in the middle of town. They have a large, tree shaded outdoor patio on the front that is elevated above the street providing a great view of everyone passing by. There is also an indoor dining room, a back patio and an upstairs bar. We had lunch upstairs because it was unseasonably hot and that was the only space with air conditioning. My wife started with the house Bloody Mary, which was excellent and I had a New Zealand Savignon Blanc from their very acceptable by-the-glass list. We both started with soup, a clam chowder and a gazpacho. Both were OK, not great. My wife had the grilled jumbo shrimp and I had the swordfish skewers. The shrimp were good but not as jumbo as expected and were probably overcooked since they were so difficult to remove from their shells. The swordfish was cooked perfectly as I requested. An acceptable meal but nothing out of the ordinary. read more

We were here for "happy hour" and had about 2doz oysters and sampling of the soups available (Gazpacho and NE Clam Chowder), both soups were excellent and the oysters were freshy fresh. Great option for mid-day Second time was lunch: Allie, the bartender upstairs, is adorable and lovely to chat up while waiting for a table outside. Mayflower IPA... excellent. Had the tomato and crab soup (very good) and Tuna Nicoisse salad. This can either be awesome or an absolute tragedy, this was very very good. Lobster paninis were also ordered. Better idea than actual execution. The pressed sandwich with now semi-reheated lobster... No bueno. Just stick with a really well executed lobster club. So... We decide to go for dinner... Hmmm... Bartender Allie is still very cool to chat with and my party had a nice time upstairs. Waited a bit for a table outside (no big deal) and then we are seated. From sitting down, couldn't help but feel that we were "being moved along" with the waitress coming back in about 2min seeing if we were ready to order dinner. Then another 2 and another 2 after that. We did place the order; Grilled Calamari with Orange and Haressa, Mussels in Reisling. Calamari, I was left a bit underwhelmed by a very watery sauce of orange and nothing that interesting about it. Calamari were OK cooked, miss the tentacles. Mussels; this seems to be a common complaint among other yelpers, lots of UNOPENED and BROKEN ones... In the restaurants I've worked at, on the fish station... We NEVER served busted nor non-opening mussels... Sauce/ broth was OK, but there were quite a bit of unopened or busted mussels left in the bowl though. Monkfish and Cod ordered by others, perfectly nice... Then there was my Swordfish... Called a loin cut at 10oz. It was cut in such a bizarre way: about as thin as a minute steak and left with the skin on it. Swordfish skin is inedible, by the way, and so was this piece of fish. Cut this thin? It was obliterated. Dry, completely overcooked. The sauce, I assume was some sort of attempt at a Provencial something or other (tomatoes, capers) but really lacked flavor and was watery. The "braised greens" of something or other (I guess it was romaine) was so overcooked and slimy... just inedible. And what kills me is; I asked the waitress for her recommendation. Considering that sword is brought in from Gloucester... And I had just grilled earlier in the week some pretty kick-ass BBQ Swordfish, I was very disappointed by this plate. Also, all through the meal, kept having to ask for clean silverware, clear this... etc. Table maintenance, as well as service in general, can use some work. Especially at these prices. People clearing glassware and their fingers are on the inside rim? Get a tray... Please. Both the kitchen and the service could use a bit of consulting and tweaking. read more

A group of six of us went for dinner on a Saturday night and had mixed results. The service was spectacular and the staff was extremely accommodating. The seafood dishes were amazing across the board. I had an incredible monkfish dish on a bed of pureed parsnips! Delicious! However, the short ribs tasted more like a pot roast and the pork loin was extremely overcooked and dry. Stick with the seafood (it is cape cord after all) and you will have a memorable meal in a beautiful setting! read more

Very nice location and cool place but the food is plenty expensive and quite disappointing. The ingredients are fine, but the attempt at creative and artistic dishes and sauces falls flat. My wife had a tomato gazpacho. None of the ingredients seemed to match. The dish just did not work. My lobster salad was the same: each ingredient fine on its own, but they did not jell into a cohesive dish. The pulled pork panini was very stingy on pork, and quite greasy. The service was OK, but detached and indifferent. You can easily do better in Wellfleet. read more

My husband and I took a recommendation from a friend and went to Winslow's to cap off our mini-moon in the Cape. We love seafood, outdoor seating, and creative cocktails, and Winslow's delivered all three! Patio seating was perfect, especially while in enjoying their "Summer in a Glass" (a basil lemonade cocktail). I have dreams about that drink, it was so delicious and perfect for the season. I had delicious lobster tacos and my husband had the Cod; both to die for, both completely gone from our plates at the end of the meal. I also have to commend our incredibly friendly server Abbey who was a real pleasure. We'll definitely be heading back to Winslow's next time we're on the Cape! read more

In August 2006 my wife, brother, and sister-in-law dined at the outdoor seating area. The table next to us were smoking and we complained to our waitress that it was disturbing our dining. Shortly a woman approached us who claimed to be the owner and said it was "legal" to smoke outside in a restaurant dining area(turns out the statutes backed her up). The "owner" then sat down at the smokers' table and lit a cigarette. After she left the chef came out and berated us for complaining. Of course we left at that point. NEVER to return. Hopefully the ownership has changed hands and the management is respectful but that was our experience! read more

Awful.. one ordered the Pasta with chilli oil.. was told it was a BIT spicy.. It was so hot you could not eat it.. We were three people out of four disappointed. The best meal we've had on the Cape. Relaxing, upscale dining. Picture perfect setting as we sat outside on the front patio overlooking Wellfleet center. Started with a delicious summer lemonade with basil! WOW! The mussels were phenomenal with the curry sauce and I had the scallops with crispy prosciutto and summer corn risotto for main course- FABULOUS. I ate every bite. Stopped in for lunch on our day tour of the outer/ lower cape. No breakfast meant we were first to show up for lunch. No problem that were were a few minutes shy of noon. We were sat on their front patio/ lawn. After some confusion over drink specials, my dining companion and I both had cold beers in our hands. I'm in Wellfleet, so oysters were a must. I had the roast Wellfleet oysters brushed with a tobacco lime sauce. They were delicious. Should someone else be bankrolling this lunch, I would have been thrilled to make a lunch on just 2 dozen of those bad boys. Bf had the chowder, which he says was good. His lobster BLT and my crab cake sando were both well received. A bit of an expensive lunch, but a good choice. We typically try to find a really good eloquent restaurant as our last dining-out meal at the Cape. We finally decided to try Winslow's Tavern - and I must say - we loved it. We'll be going back for sure. First off - I must say that Winslow's Tavern is owned by the family owning Moby Dick's. But Winslow's Tavern is definitely more formal dining. That being said - we had no problems bringing our young children as they did have a kids menu. I can't say enough about our meals. For an appetizer we tried the clam chowder and I am willing to go out on a limb by saying it was probably one of the best I ever tried. I had a pasta w/ veggies in a cream sauce that was just divine. My wife truly enjoyed her lobster/seafood dinner. My son topped us all believe it or not with this huge portion of Macaroni & Cheese off of the regular menu. We all sampled it and we were all blown away with it. Simply amazing. Winslow's is a bit expensive but the eloquence of dining outside, coupled with a fabulous meal and great service = my vote for the best dining experience in Wellfleet! read more
