Disappointing. Service is friendly, and their front patio is very pretty (if you can navigate steps). Despite their menu items sounding amazing, all the food we ate was bland at best. The clam chowder was fine, but served not hot - warm in some places and cold in others. The oysters were fine, and they were Wellfleet oysters, so I expected them to be really good. The roasted cauliflower was about a quarter of a head, which seemed to be steamed, and then perhaps pan sautéed on one side. It did not taste like it had been roasted in an oven. And if it had, it was more steamed and roasted. The cheese and asparagus was good. I ate the most of that dish out of all the dishes. And the scallop was also very nicely cooked. Too bad it was just one scallop! We had a tamale special which I was excited about, but was also pretty bland. It feels like they're trying really hard, and their menu is inventive and interesting, but the food is just not very good. read more

Visited lunchtime. Ordered the local mussel main . Very small portion with among the tiniest size mussels I ever had and at least 20% of shells were empty . Before ordering I had specifically asked the waitress about the size of the mussels , stating that I did not want small ones: she said they were medium sized. When I complained to her about the size and poor condition of the mussels, she responded that possibly I wanted to order an additional dish. That is Not an acceptable response , particularly at those prices. I would have objected but I was being treated to lunch. The host and the other guest were happier with their choices; however one was surprised that his duck was spicy although neither the menu nor the waitress mentioned that . Another awesome restaurant that we went to this past week. We were visiting friends down in Wellfleet and I wanted to check out their seafood scene (my husband is more of a meat and potatoes kinda guy LOL) so we decided to stop here. I remember us having a drink here a long time ago, but never dinner, until now. They do have an outdoor patio, pretty large actually, but we wanted to sit at the bar instead. The bar was upstairs and there were only a handful of people eating and drinking, which was good for us since it was not overcrowded. I had to order Wellfleet Oysters but I only ordered a half dozen with a nice glass of Muscadet. The oysters were just ok to my disappointment. I think whomever was shucking them did not do the best job since a few of them still had pieces of the shell inside them. I could tell while I was slurping (and chewing) on them. We also tried their Scallop Appetizer which was the best. It was very small (only 3 scallops) but just enough for us to share. I ordered the Cod for my entree and my husband had their burger. Both were absolutely delish! I devoured my whole meal with a nice glass of their South African Chenin Blanc:). Service was specatacular, everyone seemed happy to be working there which was nice for a change, and food was so fresh and hot; smaller portions which I don't mind. Their outdoor dining on the front patio is Very well done. Nice spacing, only 6 to a table, entire staff wore masks the entire time. Felt very comfortable given the Covid environment we're living in these days. We had 6 in the group and everyone enjoyed their meal. I loved their chowder. The cod special was tasty but have to admit i had food envy as she ordered the monk fish and it had more flavor the way it was prepared than the cod. Service was very good, timely and friendly. Prices are a little high but it's Cape Cod in high season reasonable. Wine list was a little light on Pinot noirs that we like to drink but the list of others offered enough choices for everyone. They also offered some good craft beer selections. Will definitely come back when in Wellfleet again. read more

This is definitely the fanciest dining you'll get in Wellfleet, MA. The staff are poised and attentive. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor dining looked fun but we opted for indoor. The decor is very modern victorian sheek. Everything just felt clean! The food was not something to cry about however. I mean the prices were high and the food was just ok. I think that if you were looking for fine dining around this area, Winslow's Tavern is the place. If you were just looking for something tasty (regardless of price), go somewhere else. read more

Although we were seated right away, our waiter took another table's order before ours., even though we were seated first. That may have been because the other party had a child with them. Then when he did take our order, he asked if I wanted everything out at once. No dude, salad comes first. I though that was a weird question from a finer dining restaurant. The house salad was $8. I refer to the photo for your opinion. For as little food they served, the salad should've been free or maybe $4. Food wise, we got the cod and the striped bass. Both were actually ok, needed seasoning. And mine was cold. thus, the 2 stars we had to send it back to be heated.. The waiter was very nice and apologetic. This place could be a 4 star with a little tweaking....aka don't be so skimpy on the salad. But 5 stars is out of the question.. next time we'll go to a clam shack for better food and prices. read more

Winslow's Tavern is a charming restaurant in one of the most beautiful towns on the Cape! My family and I have eaten at Winslow's Tavern numerous times, mostly for lunch. It's our favorite choice in Wellfleet! The lawn sits well above Main Street, giving you a bird's eye view of people strolling by. The food is always amazing! I try a different dish at each visit and am always amazed at the cuisine's creativity. The white wine sangria is not to be missed! (although the wine list by the glass is terrific!) The staff is extraordinary and make us feel welcome and joyful each time we see them. I highly recommend dining at Winslow's Tavern if you find yourself in Wellfleet. read more

I've been to WT many times over the years. The service and ambience is excellent. It's always been excellent and I'm posting this because they used to serve an excellent burger. We came here because of the "whole flounder" entree on the website menu and were immediately disappointed to see it was replaced by striped bass on the actual menu-after we were seated. We considered leaving but decided to stay and try some apps. We had tuna carpaccio, curry mussels, and the meatballs (as well as 1 beer and 1 glass of wine). The dishes were appropriately sized for apps but not as amazing as we expected. The mussels were actually nicely sized and the curry had a nice spice to it, but we rated them 6-7/10 overall in comparison to Italian-style. The carpaccio was just a bad choice in general, but if carpaccio is your go-to, then have a go at it! The service was subpar, but we assumed it was college kids working a summer job so nothing to make a scene about. Make sure you ask for water as soon as you sit down though, and don't come super thirsty The venue is really charming and cute, a nice sized house with open space inside and a very lovely front lawn with shaded seating. After being up and running for the past 36 hours or so as part of a Ragnar Ultra Running Team - my 5 teammates and I were starving for something that was not pretzel or peanut butter based. A quick search brought up this little gem, which we later found out had just opened the week before (on Mother's day weekend to be precise). It's a quaint Tavern located in what I believe to be downtown. We headed upstairs to the intimate bar/eating area and were greeted by a lovely waitstaff whom made sure we had ample bread throughout our meal (Thank you). The menu was seasonal and not very lengthy but there were items on it to compliment most everyone's pallet. I started with a crab cake appetizer and for my main meal ordered a spring pasta dish with pea and prosciutto. Both were delightful - the crab cakes were chock full of crab and NOT filler and the pasta dish was just what I was looking for. I left content, well fed and not overly stuffed. We tried this place for the first time after a recommendation from a friend and we were certainly glad we did. With COVID our experience was a little different with not being able to sit by a bar to wait 45 min but we managed. We called ahead to make a reservation for 6 but they only take reservations for parties of 7 or more which was disappointing. The person over the phone also told us that we could order drinks while we wait to which we were told when we got there that we couldn't bc of COVId however In other restaurants we dine in during our 2 week stay we were able to enjoy beverages while we waited for our 45-60 min wait. We sat in the back garden which was adorable- it had a roof of grapes and vines which was very sweet. Our service was good, wine and beer selections as well as mixed drinks were great: I ordered the kale Caesar salad which was delicious and my hubby had the chowder which he enjoyed. Our friends also had salads and we ordered a bread with a sauce that was delightful. For dinner most of our party ordered swordfish- 2 specials and one on the traditional menu. The traditional menu looked amazing. My husband orders the cod which was good but I had the lobster pasta which was very good. I wish the portion was a little hardier for the price but nonetheless it was enjoyable. We did not have dessert although it sounds sounded good. We will most likely be back. Not a great place for kids more of an adult restaurant. However I did see families dining throughout. read more

I have been going to Winslow's Tavern for years. We had dinner there recently and I was extremely disappointed in the food I ordered. The scallops were like chewing on my flip flops. The waitress was fairly indifferent when I told her. I should have know when we entered the restaurant and I overheard someone complaining about the pea shoots missing from their overpriced dish. Maybe this is how the restaurant operates these days. For the prices they charge I would expect a better meal. By no means was I expecting phenomenal meal here but was still hoping for decent meal and enjoyable atmosphere. We come from NYC so yes getting as good of quality meal as in NY is not as easy find here. There are few decent places in Ptown and one phenomenal place in Truro. We have been here for more than year because of Covid so I know Cape very well at this point and its offerings and I am ok with it. But this place, considering the beautiful outdoors, WHAT A SHAME! First of all STALE focaccia, unacceptable! You can soak that up and warm it up in microwave as much as you want but this is old piece of bread and you should be ashamed to even serve that! Now onto the WORST meal of my more than year in the Cape. Fried quail, RAW, BLOODY, absolutely appalling to cut into something and realize you are being served food poisoning on the plate. Off course the waitress who was the best part of this whole experience took the meal away apologetically. Scallops with risotto, please stick to basics because there is no culinary satisfaction that you can get in this place, besides burger which is pretty hard to miss nowadays I guess. This is one of those places that should issue you refund based on the horrendous experience. AND NOW ON TO THE TOPING TO ALL OF THIS!!! Now what is interesting is you do not mention anything in regards to the food that was served!!!! As a couple we have never been disappointed from Oysters appetizers to chowder with their own extra ingredient to main entrees to rival an upscale NYC restaurant with Michelin Stars. Honestly one of my favorite meals I've had in a long time. I got the Pork Chop and it was amazing. The endive salad and castelvatrano olives with it was the perfect pairing. We talked with one of the owners and you can tell how much passion goes behind the menu and the food. The cocktails we also unique takes on classics, I got the Negroni which was a refreshing take made with Aperol, Lillet Blanc, Gin, and just a bit of atomized Absinthe for a lingering anise aroma and taste. Lovely restaurant in Wellfleet, outdoor seating had great ambience. Seafood all tasted very fresh. Recommend the mussels with delicious curry broth. Risotto was very salty and not amazing, but scallops were fresh and well cooked. Pricy, but I'd recommend it if you like seafood. read more

The Winslow Tavern has always been a place I enjoyed going to for lunch. My husband and I went yesterday and were disappointed. The oysters on the half shell didn't seem fresh to me, the lobster BLT is smaller and on the same brioche bun they serve burgers on (used to be a nice bread). It also didn't taste that great. Then I ordered a summer salad to-go for my daughter and this $19 salad that isn't a side salad was in a tiny box and the was basically the size of a side salad. My daughter thought I order side salad by accident - we checked and I didn't (won't order that again). Lastly, the waitress tried to take my plate twice before I was done eating. The second time she got my plate and I ate the remaining 5 bites of sandwich over the table. There wasn't people waiting for a table and we weren't there that long at all so I don't know why we were being rushed. I'll stop recommending it to people. I gave 3 stars because whether you're inside or outside this restaurant has a nice feel. read more
