Best food in Wellfleet. This year they have upped their game. Homemade pastas with either the swordfish and olives, or the cacio de pepe were outstanding. Mussels in curry and burger also great. Special peach shortcake thing was amazing. Tip: instead of eating on front lawn, if the interior courtyard is available, it's magical, quiet, and unique to Wellfleet. read more

Tried this lovely restaurant a couple years ago and had been dying to bring a friend of mine back! We sat outside and our waitress Aria was super helpful with recommendations and humor! The "porch swing"is incredible and settles you into the beautiful surroundings. I ordered the lobster gnocchi which was nice and light with peaches and corn! Good place to eat. Three of us went. The oysters were very good and fresh. Can't recommend the sauce they use but I'm sure some people would like it. I ordered the Winslow burger with the bacon jam addon. To be honest the burger without the jam is very basic and I wouldn't order it again. However that bacon jam was on point! It made the burger and took it from a 2.5 to a 4! My wife got the duck pasta. This was easily the best dish we got. It was perfectly cooked and the flavors were perfect. A true 5. Her brother ordered the stripped bass special which was very well cooked and flavors were also good. Though not our flavors it was cooked perfect. As a side we got the Brussels sprouts which were underwhelming. The orange sauce didn't work well and the sprouts should have been cooked a bit longer to make them a little more edible and the sauce should may have worked as a reduction but not how it was served. Overall I think it's a good place to try and the food was very fresh. read more

Our friends own a home in Wellfleet, and they offered it to us following my Sweetheart's recent heart surgery. Being Foodies, I had done a considerable amount of research on Yelp and elsewhere to select restaurants for our trip up to The Cape last week. Winslow's was high on my list ... until our friends (who are prominent attorneys in a big city) suggested that we go elsewhere because they felt the prices were high compared to other dining establishments in the area. So, we thought we would stop by Winslow's for their advertised "Oyster Happy Hour" instead. We figured that, being that the going rate for oysters on the Cape seems to be $2 a piece, this restaurant would offer the customary 50% discount typical of "Happy Hour". Uh, no. They offer 25 cents off. That's correct, $1.75 each. And you had to buy a beverage - not that that would have been a problem ... but really? We felt this was false advertising, and it left a bad taste in our mouths, so we left and went back to The Bookstore ... for the third time. read more

Went there during Memorial weekend, the place wasn't crowded, got a table immediately. I had a tuna sushi special and it was amazing, very fresh and legendary. Had the local scallops and shrimped grilled. Really tasty.. the staff was very friendly, always bringing us more drinks and water promptly. Drinks tasted watered-down (both the "Summer in a glass" and the wine) and my daughters burger was ordered "medium well" (she's a kid) but came out burnt. How does a "chef" do this and still plate it, and how does a server bring it out? Risotto was so bland it tasted like plain oatmeal. Had dinner last night, 8pm. Restaurant fairly empty for Fourth of July weekend. Sat at the bar upstairs, staff very friendly and service good. Food quality very poor though. Focaccia bread app a joke...4 small pieces bread, 2 of which were paper thin and not able to dip and broke into pieces. Sweet corn risotto w/ scallops, scallops less than luke warm and the swordfish same. Very pricy for the amount and quality of food. Would not return nor recommend your restaurant to others. read more

Loved this place. I had hoped to go on my birthday, but the patio dining is uncovered and we got rained out. We were delighted that we were able to get an outdoor table immediately the following night. The local oysters were delicious. I really enjoyed the seared scallops and risotto, which could be made without the prosciutto for this pescatarian. My dad was less excited by his pulled rib pasta. To be fair, the waitress had advised him that it was a pasta dish, but he was still picturing bone-in ribs sitting on top of the pasta. I thought it looked tasty. We'd definitely come back to check out more of the menu. read more

My mom and I just went back for dinner. Their outdoor dining out front is so pleasant. They only had a few tables open, and when we asked nicely, they were able to put us at one near the front so we had a good view of the town. My mom got the fig salad from the main menu. I got the kale caesar. They were both so good. I got a bloody mary. We split the cream tomato pasta entree. For dessert, we split a key lime pie with mango salsa, and then we split a second one. Stopped here on our last night of vacation and loved it! We ordered two yummy drinks to start with an AMAZING bowl of clam chowder. The chowder was perfectly warm and filled to the brim with potatoes and clams, by far on one of the best chowders I've ever had only second to homemade. We both ordered pasta dishes, the clam pasta and mixed seafood pasta. We weren't blow away with either, the pasta components were just average but the seafood they were both topped with was perfect. Beautifully cooked clams, scallops, muscles and shrimp. Overall, a little expensive for the quality of pasta but a great option for a nice dinner with great patio views. read more

The "Oyster Happy Hour" is a joke. $26 for 12 Wellfleets on the half shell and $14 for 6 grilled oysters? I asked our waitress why it's a special when I paid $26 for a dozen at Macs the day before? She told me they are half price which would mean they are typically $52 a dozen? I questioned it again and she got mad at me as said " they are just cheaper than usual, so do you want them? They also rushed to turn the table over, put our food down and asked if we wanted our check. There is nothing Happy at Winslow's for Happy Hour, so don't be fooled. read more

My wife and son and I stopped in Winslow's after the beach in hopes of making a reservation for later in evening. We were still in our beach attire as we had not changed for the evening yet but were only there to inquire about availability. The shockingly rude hostess looked at us up and down and said "You must be here for the happy hour". I had no idea what she was talking about but knew enough that she was being snotty. When we asked about reservations she told us that the restaurant does not take reservations... which would be fine had she not dismissively then said "It's Saturday and it will be a tremendous wait". More or less telling us to not to return. Which, believe me, we won't ever again nor will anyone we know. Which is unfortunate because we had enjoyed a couple lovely dinners there previously. read more

The scallop special over the corn risotto and crispy pancetta was absolutely stunning. Enjoyed every dish I got a taste of...my favorite of the appetizers was the patatas Bravas which were roasted to perfection and had a spicy aoli (Possibly Sriracha) on top that brought the dish a true depth of flavor. The Bass Crudo was refined and hit many flavor notes on the pallet slightly savory with a hint of the sea cut with the berry sauce. read more

Sorry this place is extremely overpriced for less than mediocre food quality/quantity and service. The bill was almost $ 62 for 2 clam chowders, oysters and a drink. Also atmosphere was lacking. It was the end of lunch and we felt rushed! read more

Pretty disappointed. I've worked up here a few summers and always frequented Winslow's with my family. Was amazing, however this year we came in the service and food wasn't up to par. Had to come in through the handicap ramp since one of our members was on crutches, she ended up falling up it since it was super slippery. We orders cocktails and appetizers which one was "forgotten" and came out with the main dishes. All super fast within 10 minutes but we expected a little time to have wine and such with our main meal. (not old fashions with pasta lol). Food was pretty good as always, however the shallots still had the roots in our pasta sauce and waters were never refilled. I understand the college kids waitstaff as I used to be there myself but sad when they really don't care. read more

We've been coming to Wellfleet for 5 years now and Winslow's is ALWAYS out best meal. We ate there twice this week. Food is is just a step above anything else we have tried in Wellfleet. Beautiful patio to dine Al fresco and equally nice indoor dining room. Hostess very accommodating to our party of 7 (we wanted to sit outside). The service is excellent. The drink "summer in a glass" is delightful, could have had them all night! Delish focaccia bread to hold us over (most places in the area don't even offer bread). I had scallop ceviche appetizer - so good. And seafood bouillabaisse for main course. Equally as good. Left there satisfied and stuffed. And the bill was comparable to the some of the other "less satisfying" meals we had in wellfleet. Definitely a must! Enjoy! read more

I have updated this review to 5 stars, to reflect the immediate response by Winslow Tavern in addressing my original review. I have found that when a business addresses concerns, and takes ownership of a problem or experience, it signifies a genuine dedication to customer service and the customer experience as a whole. That being said, clearly management saw a concern with what I mentioned and has assured me that it is not their policy to close earlier than indicated on the sign. Original review - I will never understand why a restaurant "closes the kitchen", before the scheduled time on their menu, website, and door. The place was packed, literally 45 minutes before this review, and 15 minutes before they closed, but they had decided to shutdown the kitchen early. I have worked in the industry for many years and had to serve that last party many times; I realize it isn't always fun, isn't always what you want to happen, and isn't always convenient. To send someone away is not something I could ever imagine doing as a business owner; not on a slow night or a busy night, such as this one was. Let me be clear...the place was packed. Call ahead, no matter what time your going, as they may have randomly decided to close. read more

This was one of our favorites on our trip. We arrived around opening and were seated immediately. Everything on the menu sounded delicious so our waiter helped us narrow down our choices. The clam chowder was delicious. It had a lot of flavor. The risotto with sea scallops was well done as well. I would have preferred the risotto a tad bit more cooked. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the Meyer lemon drizzle was perfect. I would come back here again! read more

Got to say, the outdoor patio under the shade of big old trees was lovely! Sam our waiter was pleasant and helpful and did a great job! it was the rest of the experience was really disappointing. the 12 dollar Islat Old Fashioned had large ice cubes and very short pours...the clam and corn chowder was flavorless with very little clam (and surprisingly little corn and potatoes) thank goodness they provided "a little bag of oyster crackers"..but I dont they actually count toward quantities of seafood. I only ate half of my cup...it just wasnt worth it...lobster BLT was not spectacular and very greasy and the parmesean herb fries were were really tasteless and boring. I ate less than one half of my sandwich...it seemed off. My husband's prosciutto panini was very scarce on the prosciutto (maybe 1 1/2 slice but over loaded with the fig jam....that was all you taste. we had a a beer and a glass of wine. $121 after tax and tip. it wasn't Sam's fault that her served served such poor made food. all had potential but really fell short. Don't go here if you want yummy food...this was not yummy. oh and the topper. the 1/4 of the lobster BLT that I did eat, managed to be seen again about 45 minutes later at the bottom of my toilet bowl. think it must have been the lobster because other than the sandwiches my husband and I had eaten pretty much the same thing. Winslow's is a Wellfleet institution. Good food, good service, reasonable prices in the heart of Wellfleet next to convenient parking. Great place to sit outside and eat on the veranda in the summer. The bar is cozy, a good place to catch up with a friend. If you're looking for a nice dinner spot, put Winslow's on your list. read more

Not sure what is going on at this place. Was great last 3 years and although my servier was great and he did a wonderful job however, the atmosphere and food are not worth the price this year. Wow. I really wanted to enjoy our dinner here. The hosts and servers were conscientious. Unfortunately, the overall experience was not very good considering the price. No air conditioning, no fans, just hot as hell. As for the food: Lobster corn tacos with avocado cream- 3 small, very bland tacos- with no side-$22, how you make a taco flavorless is a mystery to me. Corn risotto with scallops- risotto looked gray, Also had no seasoning- $26. Mixed cherry Tomato confit with malfadine pasta-a bunch a barely cooked grape tomatoes over 4 noodles- $22- seriously?! It sucks to still be hungry after ordering a $22 entree. Besides this dish and salad- not much her for vegetarians. If you just want to come for a glass of wine and some oysters and sit outside on the lawn- this place is fine. For finer dining, there are better options. read more

I notice many people using the word 'mixed' in their descriptions of this restaurant. I'd concur. I've also been coming here for many years, since I live nearby, and IMHO the food is not as good this year as it's been in the past. The signature cod, for instance, used to come with a little tureen of potatoes on the side, now it sits atop the potatoes...small difference maybe...but it was nice to have it separate instead of having no choice but saturated in sauce. An appetizer of lobster with kumquat was, well, just odd and bad. (Like in a 'before' episode of Kitchen Nightmares.) I'm no stickler for traditional, and in fact usually welcome when a place experiments and changes their menu...but when almost all the changes are misfires, it's worth a second look maybe? read more

Well golly gosh if this isn't just the cutest place in all of Wellfleet. Picturesque and ridiculously adorable front patio, chic yet casual patio in back, and a large, open restaurant space in between. We visited during the middle of the day and sat out on the front patio. Perfectly cool and shady spot. Not wanting to spoil our dinner, we sampled some local beers and shrimp. The beer was very good-I had the Cape Cod Beer Hefe-weizen and the bf had a Portland Maine IPA. I didn't realize Cape Cod had its own brewery, and I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty the beer was. Winslow's has quite an extensive beer and wine list...I would love to go back and sample some different brews and wines. The shrimp was huge, and we ordered 4 of them. They were char grilled and topped with a super flavorful salsa verde. The only hang up I had was the fact that they didn't come peeled, and since the bf has a strange allergy to shrimp skin, I was the lucky one who got to peel all four! The taste was worth it, though. Service was just ok...I think we had a new server and she was a little shaky. She had a hard time grasping that we wanted to order 4 of the shrimp, since they were listed on the menu as $3 each. She was sweet, however, so I will give her a pass this time around. I ended up recommending to my parents that they come here for dinner during their visit to the Cape, and they did! They said their experience was just lovely. read more

It struck me odd that they have their lunch hours posted (they're open until 3pm) and then a sign that says "Dinner" below it but with no hours. They definitely close between shifts but don't say what time dinner is served. No matter, really, as I only passed by for a summer bellini. It was tasty, as was the white sangria I tried. We didn't order food, as we really only needed a place to use the internet connection of the bar across the street (and the outdoor seating of this fine establishment looked better than the bar!) Minus one star for kind of hastily wrapping up our bill as 3 o'clock approached. If one didn't read the tiny sign on the sidewalk, they might've wondered why the waitresses were in such a hurry to usher us out. "Do you need anything else?" was asked several times. We were there for less than an hour and ordered three drinks-- the place wasn't packed so they weren't losing money on us being there. Perhaps a friendly, "Just so you know, the kitchen and bar will be closing shortly before we re-open for dinner" would've done nicely. Oh well, it was a mostly pleasant experience. read more
