This is my favorite performance venue in Dallas. World class design, sound, staging and fantastic service. There's not a bad seat in the house if you get right down to it. The grand tier is really high up so I do prefer floors 1-4 ideally but I would not be scared to see a show from level 5. Sight lines are nice throughout. I may have to think about one of the extreme side seats on higher levels. That could restrict sight lines some. The Broadway shows are always great - in my opinion the sound and seating at Winspear really shine versus Fair Park Music Hall. Concerts here are fantastic and I would jump at the chance to see a favorite artist at the Winspear. Easiest parking is the Lexus Red lot but it is a bit pricey and naturally takes a while to empty out post show. Still you can walk around after the show and let the crowds clear out or get a snack at the Flora Cantina next door. There is also dining inside the center up high which looks really great. Amazing views from inside on all levels. What a gorgeous building and we are lucky to have it in our city. read more

What a phenomenal concert by one of my favorite jazz pianist and singers, Diana Krall. My wife had heard a few songs by her, but not the ardent fan I am. Parking at the Lexus Garage was a breeze. Word of warning, pre-purchase your parking with your tickets. Parking was sold out and only allowing pre-purchased entry. The Winspear is such a beautiful venue especially the showcase chandelier light feature that raises up into the ceiling before a performance. Diana and her upright bass and drummer didn't take the stage until 8:15-8:20, The trio never sounded better. Wow, what musicianship! The sound was mixed perfectly and there was a wonderful mix of standards and original music, and quite a bit of jazz improv. In the audience there was a lot of mouths hanging open with amazement. What an incredible evening of jazz, thoroughly enjoyable. read more

We routinely attend shows at the Winspear Opera house and it is always a pleasure. Parking is easily accessed, the walk from parking to the venue is short and easy in any sort of weather. Ive been here twice to see Hamilton and La Traviata. Its easily accessible and the productions are always great. I haven't had any issues with folks working there. They are always great. I recommend the crescendo program if you are under 40 and enjoy the opera. You get discounts and invites to special events. Pre show parties, back stage tours, etc. The seats are a bit small and tight and people will have to crawl over you a bit but it's not terrible. The opera house is a bit small but it's beautiful. You go there for the show anyway. Always a great time at the winspear opera house. read more

We saw Life of Pi in the Dress Circle section and it was excellent! Although if you're afraid of heights, don't choose the first row of that section because it's CLOSE to the edge so if you look down, it's terrifying. But other than that, it was absolutely beautiful and easy to see no matter what side you sat! read more

Was vey much looking forward to seeing Mrs. Doubtfire, the musical on Sunday afternoon on 12/28. This was a Christmas present from my wife that we were both really looking forward to seeing. Had printed tickets in hand and walked in past no less than 8-10 ushers and security personnel, NOT ONE of them told us why we should stand in a line that had formed along the windows. we found out, while standing/waiting in that line from other guests, that the 1:00 pm show had been canceled. No reason for the cancelation was ever provided to us. Again, not one of the at least 10 personnel we passed mentioned anything about the show being canceled and we never received any form of written communication, email, text or phone call before we drove 45 minutes to the event of even afterward. Worst, most unorganized venue and event I have ever attended. Pathetic doesn't begin to cover it and the rudeness of everyone we tried to get answers from was disgusting. Everyone of the them should be fired and have no business working at a public venue...if you hate people and your job that much, then quit. I was thoroughly disgusted with how completely unprofessional everyone was and we still haven't received our refund for those tickets, an apology, or notice of any kind that the show was canceled. It was such a horrible experience, This morning I had my estate attorney remove my $1M donation from my estate and will NEVER be back. Absolutely deplorable experience. read more

This was my first time at the opera house, and I enjoyed my time. I went here for the musical Hamilton. The show was very well done, and it almost felt like the Broadway show. When we first got there, we were directed to the self parking and because we bought the parking pass, and it was a seamless process. We rode the elevator up to the main floor and saw the bar and the line for the merchandise. We got in the line for merchandise, but we were waiting and waiting and finally asked the staff what was going on and found out that the line didn't open up until 6:30, it was 6:15 so we waited. They had a decent amount of merchandise. It was a little pricey but expected. I got a magnetic for $12 and 6 pins for $15. After we got our merchandise, we went to the bar. They had a variety of snacks and drinks. Got my kid some M&Ms, and I got tequila...yum! After we got our snacks, we went upstairs to get closer to our seats and found out the doors didn't open to 7. It was 6:45. There were not a lot of seats upstairs while you waited, but the view was nice and got some good pics. Once we made it inside, we were guided to our seat, which was in the lower mezzanine which was not bad considering the price of our seats but we were in the middle of the asile and had to get up multiple times for people to pass so we will be more mindful next time we pick seats. But as I alluded, I will definitely be back to make more memories. read more

Winspear is a great Opera House but this review is about the staff. My wife who is handicapped, her 84 year old mother and my niece had tickets to the Nutcracker on Dec 6 2025 2 pm show. The day before I called to inquire about allowing me to enter with the ladies (I was not invited, it a gift from my niece to my wife and her mother) so that I can help my niece accommodate my wife and mother in law. I called the Friday before and spoke with Dani, she was wonderful, she told me it should not be a problem and made a note on the computer to advise whomever may be allowing us in. When we got there I explained the situation to the Opera staff and they already knew of our situation. They let me in with the ladies, and the usher upstairs (Kathy) already knew about me coming up to help. She was wonderful and allowed me to accommodate my wife. The gentlemen downstairs, I believe his name was Charles also arranged so that when the ballet was over I could come in a few minutes before and pick up my wife at her seat. You guys made that day very special for my family and I appreciate it very much. A huge shout out to the parking staff, whom let me in the garage free of charge so that I can drop them off and accompany them up to there seats, and to also allow me to come back and park by the elevator (they remembered me and my situation). I want to thank everyone there on Saturday including the Dallas police department who let me pass through a closed street so that I can get to the Red garage. Everyone - Thank you very much!!!! This is a beautiful theater! It's modern, sleek, and elegant in its design. I love that there's an underground parking garage as well. It's $17 to park. If you're in a Lexus, it appears that you get premium, close-to-the-exit/entrance parking which is good for those people. I came here on Sunday to see Hadestown. My seat was in the upper balcony (5th floor), in the center of the 1st row. It very high up! Everyone that came in that row commented about how high up we were and how scary it was walking in that narrow aisle with no real railing to hold on to. I can appreciate that for design purposes, a hand rail in that row would create an obstructed view, but it was genuinely scary being up that high with virtually no railing or barrier. Nonetheless, although we were in the rafters and you couldn't make out facial definition without binoculars from that height, the view from the center was excellent. At the beginning, the opening number was hard to hear the words being sung and it wasn't the performer's fault. it seemed like an issue of the sound engineer. It was corrected and the rest of the performance had good sound quality. A major problem with this theater is the fact that there is only staircase for all upper floors to exit and enter from. As beautiful as the round theater design is and as streamlined as the vestibule may be by only having one staircase, a better design choice would be to have another staircase/stairwell for people to exit/enter from, or better yet an escalator. The traffic jam and lengthy time it took for the entire theater to leave was way too long and way too congested. read more

It is a beautifully architectural building. The glass walls display the beautiful city it surrounds, and the unique red really sets it apart. The inside is incredibly clean. The reason I didn't mark it as a full yes on recommending is because the seating is not ideal. The U shape doesn't allow the sides seats to be easily view the stage. From our seats, we could only see half of the stage unless we sat directly up against the railing and not even 1/2 on our seat. read more

The Winspear Opera House is a 5 star facility. Ambiance is beautiful, comfortable seats, good acoustics, and plenty of helpful friendly staff. Our recent visit was for Jerry Seinfeld and very enjoyable. However, this review and rating is ONLY for the Skyline Terrace dining on the 4th floor. It is really a very poor reflection on Windspear and a complete rip off for $35 per person. Service is friendly and attentive, but the food is terrible. It is a very small buffet with limited options. On the positive side it has a nice cog Annette Straus park and very convenient to avoid the pressure of getting to your seats on time. On our visit, the options were a fruit salad, a broccoli and mayonnaise concoction, green vegetables, which were the highlight of the meal, simply terrible macaroni and cheese (Kraft out of the box would have been 10 times better), dried out salmon and poor quality London broil. The vegetables and the Dr Pepper chocolate cupcake were the only things really edible. I don't care how convenient I would never go back and have dinner there again. Live and learn. read more

The place was nice except for one major flaw. They let in people who were late, and I had to stand up to let them in, causing groans from those around me. I tried to hurry back into my seat and caught my pants pocket on the armrest, ripping a big slit in the side. During a part in which the lights were darkened, I bolted. The theater is nice but the over priced buffet is insulting. Limited selection, incredibly slow service, all the food was cold, and while tea and coffee is free, they charge for soft drinks. A true ripoff for $43, but since it's the most convenient place to eat, they get away with it. read more

Opening night of Flight. I brought my Opera paraphernalia with to watch this moder opera. Oooh Wee! Leave the kids at home because it's a little racy but so much fun!! The simulation of "Da Sex" took us all by surprise but OMG so funny. The breakout star was the lead... a refuge. His voice!!! Have you ever touch silk.. just let it graze against your skin. It was so rich and angelic. John Holiday has this high Soprano-esque. I have no idea the octave. It would surpass any lead I've seen take the stage. I would love to see a one man show with him and just bask in his melodic comfort of song. I think people are passing this oper up since it's contemporary but they shouldn't because it's worth the ticket. read more

I love watching musicals here! We always park somewhere off site and walk over rather than paying for valet, but I know that's a popular option for many of the Winspear patrons. Entrance and security is efficient, but the closer you get to show time the higher the chances are of you missing the first few minutes of your show. I definitely recommend parking half an hour ahead of time so you can get a drink, use the bathroom, and find your seats before show time. They always start the show 3 minutes late to allow for last-minute entrances! Ten minutes before the show, they will pull up the beautiful chandelier inside the Winspear, accompanied by lights and music that is enchanting to watch if you've never seen it! There are lots of stairs in your future if you're sitting in the Grand Tier and the lines for elevators are very long, so that's something to consider if you have mobility limitations. Leaving from the top floors is an exercise in patience as there's only one main staircase down and everyone is forced to shuffle down the steps slowly. However they usually have a great DJ playing music after the show so you can debrief the performance with the rest of your group prior to getting back down to the first floor. I love everything about the Winspear except for the leaving process! read more

I love seeing operas and big Broadway musicals here at the Winspear. Beautiful is their exterior and interior architecture. Amazing is the acoustics. Fantastically designed is the sightline from any seat. Extraordinary is their retractable chandelier. Easy it is to park in their large lot or use their efficient valet. Option to have dinner here in the main lobby or choices of wonderful restaurants nearby. And, coat check and wine bars available. When seeing a production of a touring play, I do strongly suggest to have tickets as close as possible to the stage; although you can hear fine anywhere in the house, the intimacy would be lost. Went to see Chicago. This was my first time seeing a play in this location. Notice the name says "opera house", for which it is perfectly designed. I've seen Chicago several times. This was a very average performance except for Eddie George playing Billy Flynn. Eddie being a former NFL player made his more than adequate performance seem better. The reason for the three stars, the venue was designed for operatic performances not plays. The musicians were in the middle of the stage. The actors had to perform around the orchestra. Also, the venue had six stories. My tickets (read "free") were on the 6th level. We couldn't see a thing, but singing ants. The music sound nice though. Not a good venue for the theatre. read more

I love this venue but I can only give three stars because during the performance ushers kept letting late people in, who couldn't find their seats due to the lights being out, which caused the ushers to shine flashlights in everyone's faces. Real opera houses do not let people in after the show starts and I really wish Winspear would abide by the same rule. It wasn't just once or twice. It was at least half a dozen times up to 40 minutes after the show started. Between that issue and two employees standing two rows behind us at the door having full on conversations during the show, it really made for a less than ideal viewing experience. Saw Shen Yun tonight. It was SPECTACULAR! The talent is beyond compare. The MCs did a great job letting us know what to expect before every number. The male performers received more spontaneous applause but I think we were all just in absolute awe at the beauty and grace of the women dancers. There were two soloists (out of this world) and an Erhu master who also performed. It is astounding the music that was performed on two strings! The show is black tie or at least Sunday best. DO NOT TAKE ANY PHOTOS WHILE THE SHOW IS IN PROGRESS. They're not kidding about that. The Winspear is a lovely location. Windows for miles. The parking was very convenient. The fee was $20 per car. They did offer valet parking but we parked ourselves. No eating in the theatre but they do sell snacks and drinks in the lobby to eat before entering the theatre. The seats were comfortable and close. You'll get friendly with your neighbor and especially friendly if you're a football player, etc. The production is well worth the money we paid. However, heads up on souvenirs! The prices are not displayed! We bought a tee shirt ($20) and we're very happy. We also bought a scarf but did not ask the price before handing over my credit card (I know, I know, my fault entirely) only to see a charge for $170! Yeah. My 12 year old niece loves it and has promised to wear it for 100 years so ok. I would have NEVER shelled out like that otherwise but live and learn, right? I would 100% recommend Shen Yun! What an awesome venue! My wife and I had seen the occasional broadway show here before but had season tickets only at Dallas Summer Musicals. I gotta say, the more we see shows here (we just got a 2020 broadway subscription), the more I appreciate the intimacy of the space. There's not really a bad spot in the house! I also love that they do special events here as well: Michelle Obama has spoken here, and my wife and I saw an MST3K live performance here for my birthday that was the highlight of my month! The dedicated underground parking structure is a nice touch too. Clutch that the entire walk from your car to the door is covered, as we've seen shows on very rainy days and the weather didn't cramp our style one bit. read more

We came here for a performance and sat on the floor level, about 5 rows back on the side. The views were great even though you could see backstage at our angle, but not too much. The staff was friendly and helpful, but minus one star as they ran out of boosters for my kids and we were there pretty early. The facility is all class. It is modern and there was a cool chandelier that hangs down and blocks the view of the people in the upper bowls. No worries however as the chandelier disappears into the ceiling before the show starts. Parking is hard on the street but there are plenty of garages that are around. It was raining on this night so there were many drop-offs pick-ups right in front that created a jam. read more

Lovely experience at Winspear. We parked in the lot below and had an easy in and out, although we got out before a lot of people, so it may have crowded up later. We were sitting in the upper balcony (second from the very top), but had a good view and the acoustics were great. The theater itself is somewhat small, which I liked, with no overcrowding in the balcony areas. Staff were nice and helpful. Concessions were overpriced, but that's the theater. I enjoyed myself and would most definitely see another performance here. read more

I've been to this location a few times for a conference and a show. We came here to see the show Once. We had pretty good seats as we were on row L. The show was fun and the acoustics was really good. It was really crowded as well. I did order a soda from here and it tasted funny. Maybe I should have gone with some wine! Definitely a fun place to watch a show. I see can parking being a disaster as there is a parking garage but there was a huge line after the show to get to the garage.
