The surrounding town of Leeds is small and you will need to drive 15-20 minutes for stores, etc. Zion is about 45 minutes away and Bryce Canyon is about 2 hours away. We booked at Leeds RV Park four weeks before our trip and changed our reservations last minute to add additional nights. The camp hosts are very friendly, we really like Janet, she is great! Sites are on gravel with cement pads for a patio. Full hookups, some grass, trees, very quiet. They have restrooms, showers, laundry, clubhouse, dog walking grass, and tent camping grass separate. It was nice to hang out at camp for a day to recover from a long day of hiking at Zion. There are many longer term residents here that are very friendly. We enjoyed our 4 night stay as the park was within a 15 minute drive of other activities and there is a farm next store that was welcoming to guests walking over so we could see horses and cows up close. Used Good Sam Discount and saved too!

It was spotlessly clean, easy to find and enter, great parking, and great location to Zion. The bedrooms were huge, with a king sized bed and twin bed in each, so you could easily sleep 6 adults here, and more if people were willing to do air mattresses in the living room. The bathrooms were great, and fully stocked with many towels. Great shower and bath tub. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook, including a crock pot and waffle maker! They ever had a pancake/waffle mix out on the counter which was so cute. The tv was easy to use and had lots of app options. The blinds worked great to keep out the sun. The couch was very comfortable and the kitchen is huge! The street was very quiet, and the little town had a few nice restaurants and was only minutes away from the main drag in Hurricane. I am so happy my husband found this place, what a score! Honestly my only negative notes are nitpicking - one of the twin bed frames was loose and creaky and could use some tightening. The ceiling fan in our room was stuck on the highest mode and we couldn't adjust it. Tiny things like that, but nothing to take away from what a phenomenal experience we had. We don't go to Zion often which is kind of a shame because I would totally stay here again.

We bought a house in…read moreAZ and we travel back and forth from Idaho and needed a place 'in the middle' that is comfortable for us and our 3 dogs. We LOVE this place. Its always squeaky clean, has comfortable king bed and best of all - a fenced backyard with grass. We so look forward to stopping here after a long day of driving. The back fence is 4ft tall which works fine for us as our big dogs are not jumpers. Also, nice patch of grass. It's on a fairly busy street so the front room has a bit of street noise but it doesn't bother us at all. It's a 2 bed/2 bath both ensuites with king beds. Everything you would need in the kitchen, cozy living room area with a small TV. Lots of places to eat in Hurricane which is 5 min away. Highly recommend. So grateful we don't have to walk the dogs on leashes (yucko) - just open the front door and shoo them in - then they can roam around the backyard safely. We will be back again and again!

If you want to stay in a very rustic setting away from the crowds of Zion, Bryce, etc. yet avoid…read morethe bright lights of St. George, this US Forest Service campground is the place to go. Getting there is half the fun. At the end of Oak Grove Rd. in Leeds, keep going into Dixie National Forest on a gravel/dirt road and follow the signs for Oak Grove Campground. You start out in desert scrub, pass through stunning multi-colored rock formations, then end up in a low-height forest near the end as Pine Valley Mountain looms above. All along the route (which parallels Leeds Creek), you'll keep going up- at least a couple thousand feet in elevation gain, so keep your eye on your engine temperature. The road gets rougher, especially near the end, but was passable by a non-4WD car. I even saw a camper trailer parked there, so someone was able to defy the posted cautions against bringing a trailer all the way. Note that there are also a number of random campsites along the access road as well if you lose your nerve while driving. The campground itself is small- only about 9 sites, but nestled in a shaded grove area with many pine trees as well as the namesake oaks. Several families were camped there and were playing in the creek, which was running at an especially high level. As the USFS is wont to do, you won't know if there's potable water available until you actually get there- the notice board informed campers that water was not available there at the moment if they wanted to get water, they'd have to drive white-knuckled back to Leeds to get it. There was also a sign posted halfway down the access road saying that the campground was full, but it looked semi-permanent and when I got to the campground several sites were available. Only a single pit toilet was available, but at least it was fairly clean. The campground is also the trailhead for the Oak Grove trail up Pine Valley Mountain. More on that in another review.

As the other poster noted, the access road is rather 'rustic' & I wouldn't want to tow a trailer using just a 2WD vehicle, nor would I dare try driving a big motorhome down it -- if you're considering either, scout the road out first. If you're camping out there and major rainfall occurs, unless you've got a heavy-duty 4WD with off-road tires, you're probably not going to be leaving for a while, perhaps several days, until the road dries up somewhat. But all of those risks are what really helps keep the Oak Grove campground rather small & cozy, and best-suited for the people who are really into roughing it, not the type that like camping, but want to be able to go into town for a pizza or otherwise just be a quick & easy drive away from civilization. Due to the elevation & shade presented by the numerous pine trees, this is one of the few camp sites in the St George area that would be tolerable in the late Summer & Fall, where temps in St George can easily be 110 degrees in the day.

Perfect for a walk in some cooler weather on the hotter summer days. Put your feet in the freezing cold river for a refresher. It didn't look very big to me from the map view but it's a good size to drive around before picking a good spot. Parking is cash only put in an envelope outside the park. Watch out for snakes! If you are in the area and are unsure of going, this is your sign saying to go. I almost didn't and now that I know what it's like out there, I would have regretted it sooo bad if I didn't go. It's truly so beautiful and peaceful.

Not too far outside of the St. George area, you'll find an entirely different terrain-no longer the…read morered rocks and dirt, but tall, lush trees, a stream and a respectable sized reservoir. This is Pine Valley-located in Dixie National Forest (yes, there's a fee-$8 per vehicle). There are picnic areas and space for fishing. At the guard station, there's a handwritten sign telling visitors not to be a "fishnicker"....I inquired about this new word and learned that it's a person who comes to fish but parks their vehicle in a picnic spot, making it unavailable for people who want to picnic there. Makes sense-if you're here to fish, park in the fishing area and leave the picnic tables to people who will use them. There are several walking/hiking trails and they are beautiful! We did the Santa Clara River Walkway which was an easy walk through the trees with pretty views. There's plenty of available parking at the trailhead and clean bathrooms before you start your hike.

We had intentions of going to…read morea state park in Utah, but it was a Friday night (mid-May, 2024) and we hadn't made reservations, and they were full. So, I went to Recreation.gov and found that this campground had spaces available. It was 25 miles away, but it was on the way to our next destination. The campground is located in the Virgin River National Recreation Area, managed by the BLM. It was also very inexpensive -- $12 with a National Parks Senior Lifetime Pass ($16 without) for a non-electric site. We found the campground easily -- very close off the interstate but still surprisingly quiet. Finding our campsite though was another story! We were site 69 & the loops seemed to end at 68. We only found it after enlisting the help of a maintenance worker and a map in the restroom. The campground is in a lovely location, with many sites having views of the canyons or the Virgin River. Handicapped sites also have covers over their picnic tables to protect opponents from the Arizona desert sun. Restrooms have modern toilets and running water. The campground also has a few easy (and some harder) hiking trails -- including one down to the river where people were swimming and cooling off. None that we encountered were shaded so make sure you bring lots of water.
