Took my cat here, rich the person who cut my cats hair he was very rude on the phone and when I got there he stated that if i don't receive a call by him by 3:30 to call and see how much longer. It's around 3:45 at this point I never received a call. So I called and he stated maybe just 20 more minutes. So I get in the car start driving over there and I walk in and he's grooming my cat??? My cat has been there since 10am?? So I'm confused why you're just now getting to him. Then as he's cutting my cats hair he grabs him by his neck to hold him down and I am appalled. I never got a close up on my cats face until we got into the car and BOTH SIDES OF HIS WHISKERS ARE SHAVED OFF! His haircut is uneven there's still hair in places that should have been cut off. I took my dog to get her nails clipped, she is 3 and very anxious (she was abused as a puppy), and I let the man at the front know that. I called ahead and he hung up right after saying I could bring her in which I thought was odd but ignored. I took her to the nail table and the man told me I can stand there with her. He started clipping her nails and she cried out like 3 times. She bites when fearful so she tried to bite at him (which they did not even put a muzzle on her) but instead of pausing he HIT her! IN FRONT OF ME. Imagine what they do when the owners aren't there!! I said ok I think she's had enough so I could pay and leave immediately but he told me no she has one more. He did the last one and she cried again. I got out of there so fast. Do NOT take your dog here!!!! The place was dirty, unorganized, understaffed, and loud. Dogs locked up in cages and barking. They were also the first ever groomer I've been to that doesn't ask for vaccine proof prior to their service, which is very unprofessional and unsafe. This place was amazing!, girls are supper friendly, place is very well kept. I took my 100 pound lab in for service. I really liked that the owner himself,. He came out and greeted us, and Reese. We received many warnings about Rich and we ignored every single one. Picked up our puppy last week and our dog looked nothing like himself and he was there ALL day. They are understaffed and we think Rich forgot about our pup and proceeded to give him a 5 minute groom. This resulted in bald patches, an uneven haircut and one scared pup. Rich commented on how they're short staffed and gave us a discount. Rich - take less customers and do a good job consistently because you'll keep losing customers with this low quality, rushed work. I hesitated writing this review because times are tough but our puppy took a few days to recover from this experience and just want to warn others. I have friends who rave about some of the other groomers there so give it a go, just be careful with Rich. I stopped bringing my dog here because they kept cutting my dogs hair way to short (shaved) even though I asked them to just cleaned him up or change groomer. When I booked the appointment with owner Rich I explained how she got skunked a month prior and had several special baths and was a bit matted. He told me no problem. When I dropped her off he was visibly in an aggravated mood. He rubbed her back he said she should be fine. About 20 minutes later he phoned and told me that he was either going to shave her down or I should pick her up and brush her out myself as he had no time for that. I told him to go ahead and shave her and he left tufts of hair all over and a crooked head that I had to fix myself. Maybe he should retire since he seems so miserable. read more

If you care about your pet, do NOT take them there. The owner was rude, gave my dog the opposite cut from requested and it was poorly done--shaved to the skin in some areas and long tufts that were missed in others. So poorly cut that he refunded me and offered an additional free cut, which I will not accept. A poor cut was not great, but not a huge issue. What is a big concern is that my dog developed an infection in both ears causing pain and discomfort, costing over $200 in treatment. Additionally, my dog doesn't love the groomer/vet, but he never shook in fear before this. Now he does. When I brought him back the next day to demonstrate the grooming concerns, my dog shook in fear and did not stop until we left. read more

A great place for cats. My two exotic shorthairs are used to being bathed though they are not enthusiastic about it. Rich makes sure to degrease them instead of flattening their coat with a conditioning shampoo, and each time my cats return glistening like oil slicks. I know he is nice to them as my cats don't give him any sass (which they would absolutely do if he were not gentle or kind.) I am somewhat perturbed by the waiting system where cats are placed in those locker like kennels alongside dogs. They are safe but not separated. My cats are used to dogs, but hearing strange dogs "freak out" because a cat is around has to be annoying. A skittish cat would hate it probably. Be sure to talk with them to see what can be done if your cat is scared of dogs. 7 am drop offs are hard, but if you have cats, your options are limited. However with these guys I don't feel like I am settling. Rich is excellent with my two guys as and as long as he is excellent with them, I am not going anywhere. read more

I picked up my 60lb lab mix 1.5 year old rescue from his 3rd visit here to find his eyes blood red. When I asked what happened the owner Rich, who was his groomer for the day, casually replied my dog was afraid of the dryer and was pulling away. I was in shock and my boy just wanted to get out of there so we left. Upon searching the internet as to how this happens i found out this mostly happens when a dog is being strangled. I know my dog probably pulled, a lot. He is a really nervous dog. However Rich should have stopped blowdrying and called me, before it got this bad. Rich was fully aware how nervous my dog is. I also noticed some lopsided shaving done to his hind side. Shaved down to the skin on just one side. My dog is a bath and nails only client. There is no need for fur trimming. After thinking about why this strange shaving my only conclusion is my dog tends to squirt poop when overly anxious. I'm guessing there was poop on his fur. Why clean him up if you can shave it off?? Needless to say i do not reccomend such a reckless provider who allows a dog to choke to the point of burst eye blood vessels! A few other bad points about this place is they keep your pet for many hours. Mine was there for 5 hours! The staff seems very down, like they are unhappy. I have been taking my two ten pound Shitzu/poodles to Rich for years now. His main concern is that the dogs are comfortable and not distressed. The worst hair cut EVER! The hair cut they gave my dog was awful, very patchy and uneven. I ask them not to cut her hair too short but they cut it very short and even shaved to the skin in some areas. I asked them to only trim up her face. This is a decent grooming place. Looks pretty clean and everyone seems friendly. I called the day before to make an appointment. They said I could come any time in the morning. Well that seems odd because I feel like you should have a specific appointment. When I took my dog the next day, I understood. There were a lot of doggie stations set up where the dogs get groomed. The groomer I talked to said they had about 40 to 50 dogs at the moment (it was 9am!) so they were a little busy (yeah, I'll say) but they could take my dog, no problem. We kind of talked about length. I said I didn't want it too short, maybe just a trim. He said they can't really do that because they use a razor to make the process faster, but he would use a longer blade. I said okay, and had more questions, but he seemed rushed so I just said I would be back when he was done, which apparently would be in 4 hours (yikes!). I called around 12:30 to check on my dog and they said it would be another hour because they were really busy. Poor dog has been there since 9am. I picked him up and he looked cute of course, but his cut was a little shorter than I would have liked. He has a double coat, and really flowing hair, and I was hoping for something shaggier, but I feel like that wasn't really an option due to their hair cutting process. I later noticed that a big chunk of hair was missing and it looks like he got cut by the razor too. That was a little surprising. I didn't really like the choppy look, but the groomer said they could do it shorter or longer next time depending on what I like. It's nice that they'll work with you, but still undecided on whether I'll go back. I might want to try other places first. The cost for the cut, bath, nail trimmings, ear cleaning was $35. That's a pretty great price considering PetsMart was around $50, but now I'm wondering if the latter was more expensive because they use scissors as opposed to a razor, which I think I'd prefer. One more note: since they have so many dogs in at once, they have little boxes where they keep the dogs that are done until they are picked up. That made me a little sad. I feel like you should only take as many dogs as you can pay attention to at one time. They say you can pick up your dog whenever you are free. Well I see why now. We take our dog here for nail trimming (she's small enough to bathe at home). The shop is very clean. When you walk in, you don't usually get a friendly vibe. However, once engaged, the groomers are friendly and great with the dogs. We generally use whoever is available because we walk in. However, Cindy is our favorite. I called several places to bring my puppy for the his first grooming experience and after calling around several places and reading reviews, From Head to Tail was able to make an appt for me and the reviews were great. Location is fantastic, it's in a cute little "downtown" part of Elmhurst, away from the main downtown part of Elmhurst. Samantha was fantastic with my pup and he can see now!! BINGO. He was so mellow that he even fell asleep there until I picked him up. He must of liked it too, since he wasn't shivering or shaking with fear. I will definitely come back! Price was excellent, 22 dollars for the bath and trim, plus he stayed a little longer than he should have and it wasn't a problem for them, so I really appreciate that they were able to work with me. read more

Took my pup here today for a simple nail trimming. During the trim, the groomer used a dremel & the dremel got caught in her hair and started spinning around. My pup was screaming because she was in so much pain. They had to cut the dremel out of her hair. She is traumatized and does not want to be touched. read more

Normally I don't do reviews but I think this is a good lesson for me I have three dogs and I brought one of them to be groomed for the first time now I came from five star shop who lost their only groomer and I was bringing the second dog in the next day. Unfortunately there were a few things that were misunderstood and l was less than 100% happy. I felt that I had 2 choices, one was to speak with the owner, or, to find another place. I understand good help may be hard to find these days, but no excuse for rudeness. Not too mention my dog would be there for 7 1/2 hours and I supposedly got the 1st appointment of the day? The owner just has such an "air of superiority" and then when he knew I was fed-up he'd totally change his tone. From Head to Tail isn't the place we normally take our dogs. We've been there once before, and they were just fine. But since we don't live in the area anymore, we haven't been back. Truthfully, I was too embarrassed to take our burr-filled dogs to our normal groomer, and I was bringing our dogs to my parents' house for the week. I'm glad that my dad agreed to take our pathetic pups in because they were really really bad (normally we don't let our dogs stay full of burrs, but I swear they were manifesting those darn things from thin air faster than we could pluck them out of their fur). I have to say that From Head to Tail is SUPER accommodating! I called at 7:45 and asked if they had availability. The gentleman that I spoke to was really nice and friendly & told me that I could bring the dogs in any time before 10:30...perfect. I gave my dad instructions on how to get there & how the dogs usually get trimmed up & sent them merrily on their way while I went to work. I called on my lunch break to see how the drop off went & my dad said he was just on his way to drop off the dogs...at 12:30...which is 2 hours later than they told me. My dad must have been a smooth talker because he was able to just breeze them right in. Grooming for 2 King Charles spaniels was under $100, even after a very (guilt and shame driven) generous tip...almost $30 less than what we pay at our local groomer. We just might have to make them our regular place because they were well worth the distance. read more

These are the nicest people with the cutest shop. The owner is great and has taken my dogs and groomed them at a moment's notice. They've provided great advice over the phone after they were closed when my dog was sprayed by a skunk. The location is convenient and my dog only comes home mildly freaked out. That's saying something because my one dog is adopted and she's really terrified of being left alone. I hate to extrapolate, but the other reviewer sounds like a nuts, uptight, Elmhurstian. I'm not just thinking that because she owns a Shih Tzu. The whole tone of her review is absurd. In 2 years of taking dogs to this groomer I've never seen an unhappy customer.
