I had lunch here on a weekday recently with 2 business colleagues. To start, the greeting and seating was prompt and friendly. Server was professional, friendly and on-point. Interior of this place is nice: combination of old school with modern touches. The starter for the table was the thick-cut bacon, and boy it was good. Great tasting sauce, and a thick piece of fat and meat. I had the Cobb salad with crab meat replacing the shrimp, and it was a winner. The lump crab meat was top quality and delicious. Paired with a great creamy dressing and fresh, firm avocado, the salad was prepared well, with the right ratios of lettuce, crab, dressing, beans/onions, etc. Salads may seem easy to make properly, but many restaurants do not get it right. W. Grill does, at least with this salad. My dining companions had the catch of day fish (swordfish) and the burger. Both looked excellent and properly cooked, and both were thoroughly enjoyed by my companions. French fries with the burger were thin, fully cooked and crisply, which is the right combo for fries, and a must (once again, seems obvious but many places cannot seem to manage that). They got rid of Brunch due to opening a sister property (under a different name) close by and serving it there. In all honesty I think its not only a cash grab to pack there other restaurant pushing brunch there but also a cash grab at Witherspoon Grill as everything on the menu is priced sky high as its an upscale trendy restaurant (We are talking $30 salads and $12 dollar soups among many other crazy sky high pricing). I tried there Five French Onion Soup as I was straving and wanted something immediatly. The bread in the soup was stale and I mean you could see the hard side edges and it was chewy...yeah...I've been ordering French Onion Soup since I was a pre-teen and French Onion is definitely not to be served in this fashion, no one enjoyes stale chewy bread in their French Onion soup that I know. $25 dollar Ricotta Ravioli - Not bad, I would say the Ravioli was cooked Al Dente which could be a turn off to some and I almost didn't order it as it is hard to justify spending this amount of money on a simple menu item like Ricotta Ravioli but everyone else at the table was ordering $38 crab cakes and nothing was exactly a steal at the price points. My sister and her family enjoy it here as it is convenient from where they live and we typically end up here celebrating a birthday or a special occasion but with them axing brunch and after this bill that they auto add tip on with parties of six or more I may have a shot of convincing her to go to another establishment in the future. This is a great location if you're exploring Princeton. The Princeton Public Library is next door. The restaurant has outdoor seating. It closes early, so take a look. The atmosphere is interesting. Enjoyed some outdoor dining on a Sunday evening for dinner. The service was excellent, as if they were used to having customers outdoors. Drinks, especially water, were refilled very quickly, and I didn't even have to ask. When we were seated, the maitre'd adjusted our umbrella to further protect us from the sun's heat. We got a warm day in November and decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to take our 2 month out to dinner for the first time since we were able to sit outdoors, just incase! They were incredibly accommodating with our stroller, the servers loved it and were extremely knowledgeable with the menu. The chef also made one of the better pork chops I've tasted and we even had a little live music playing which was a bit loud but made for a fun atmosphere. The menu is American and steakhouse dishes, with an emphasis on fancy sandwiches. My table ordered a crab cake sandwich, a burger, grilled cheese, and a short rib sandwich. Everyone was very satisfied. We also ordered soups--French onion was the standout, and lobster bisque and tomato soup were okay, not amazing. The salads and steaks looked good. Service was fast. The staff was very pleasant and efficient! My husband and I always get calamari if it's on the menu! We thought it was cooked perfectly with a crispy crust, not chewy, and not greasy. The balsamic glaze and tomatoes complimented the taste of the calamari along with the squeeze of the lemon. I got the short rib Mac and cheese and it was the perfect size! The waiter was supposed to substitute my chips for a salad and he forgot. No big deal. My issue was that the service was super slow. We came in on a Saturday afternoon with a lunch reservation and we were seated right away. We just had our anniversary lunch at Witherspoon Grill. We sat outside and it was a lovely day - with the farmer's market & musicians playing right near us. Jamie was our server and she did an excellent job taking care of us. It was a pleasure. She first brought us a wonderful breadbasket with a tasty butter spread & our 2 glasses of Prosecco. The entire meal was delicious. My husband had the onion soup, which is always great. And I tried the fried calamari dish, which was uniquely prepared with tomatoes & peppers & some balsamic glaze. Delicious. My husband then had the Lemon Chicken & artichoke special with a side salad. He said it was wonderful & he enjoyed it very much. I had the Rack of Lamb. It was cooked to perfection with a delicious sauce, and asparagus & roasted potatoes. The only issue (and why a star was taken away) was that the rack of lamb dish did not have the full rack of 8 lamb chops - it had only 5 chops. Although it was delicious, if the menu says a rack of lamb for $45 then you should be served an 8 chop rack of lamb: and not have 3 chops missing. If the chef wants to serve 5 chops, that's fine. Just don't call it a rack of lamb & charge the full rack amount. Otherwise, we had a wonderful anniversary meal and day about town. read more

For dinner we both got the filet mignon steak w/ mushroom gravy (forgot the name), we had it prepared medium rare . We can both truly say, it was one of the most perfect, tender & juicy peices of steak we've ever experienced. We got a side of 2 hour mushrooms & onions, and the asparagus. Prepared perfect. My husband had the turkey club which he thought was pretty good. My mom got the onion soup which she enjoyed and then the salmon w side salad. She enjoyed the salmon, although it was a small piece. I got the lemon chicken with artichokes and mushrooms. Chicken was a little dry, I guess because I asked for sauce on side. The artichokes and mushrooms were tasty. The salad was quite disappointing, lettuce, radish and carrots with a very bland dressing, don't even know what the flavor was. Lettuce was either romaine or iceberg. I ordered take out tonight & it was truly horrible. I'm honestly surprised the high reviews this restaurant gets. I got the almost $20 goat cheese salad. The "maple roasted acorn squash" is literally hard as a rock. For one, no one eats RAW acorn squash. Two, it feels like an F YOU to a customer. Like why would the chef allow this to go out? The kids Mac and cheese has zero taste and looks like a slab of velvets was slapped on top. The west potato fries were under cooked and some pieces of the fries were hard. Upon enjoying brunch, 6 of us took a stroll in Princeton to try and enjoy and after meal cocktail. The sun was shining, there was live music right outside the restaurant so obviously we asked the host to be seated outside in one of their empty tables. It was kind of an awkward time between lunch and dinner so the restaurant was not packed even though it was a Saturday afternoon. We all order cocktails and beers and about 4 appetizers to munch on and the waitress Amanda gives us a foul attitude about how the tables are for "full service dining". My party states we'll move in which they don't comply but rather just leave us there feeling unwelcomed. Now onto the food. Spinach artichoke dip was cold with a layer of cheese so thick you needed a knife to cut through the blanket to get into the actual dip. Calamari was disappointing it lacked seasoning and some kind of sauce element. Salad was pretty good but for the price of all the items on the menu the portions were tiny. Would not come back here unless I am dying to have an overpriced underwhelming meal in Princeton. read more

Not a fan of Witherspoon Grill. The food is nothing special (steak was nothing to write home about), plus the kitchen served it nearly raw when I asked for medium temperature. The environment is also extremely loud -- don't expect quiet conversation in this restaurant. At the end of the day, it's still a bar scene. The dessert was the one shining moment of our dining experience. If you go to Witherspoon, I highly recommend the pound cake. Overall, I'd skip this option and go to Agricola Eatery, a farm-to-table restaurant just up the street. It's far superior, IMO. read more
