This was my first time candlepin bowling and I was with my best friend so I of course had a great time. Candlepin bowling if you're new to it is like bowling for folks that have ADD. You bowl your slightly larger than fist-sized bowling ball three times in a row and you go twice (there are more differences, but those are the main ones). We paid for 30 minutes at first and thing extended it to 45 minutes. I would recommend at least 45 minutes / 1 hour because once you start going, I don't think 30 minutes is enough. The only reason I'm subtracting a star is because sometimes our lanes didn't pick up properly and the timer for the extension cut short a little bit. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I've come here a few times over the years but will definitely be back more frequently, as there are no real bowling alleys anymore. All of them are being torn down, and I'm not really a fan of King's or Jillian's. This place is reasonably priced, they serve food, they serve alcohol (wine and beer), and it's a real, old-school bowling alley that does candlepin bowling. They offer glow-in-the-dark bowling too, but we just did the candlepin. They also have an arcade and Keno, if you're so inclined. You can bowl for either an hour or half hour. I thought the prices were reasonable -- I think it was under $35 for an hour, including shoe rentals for three people. Old school candlepin bowling is great for kids with smaller lighter bowling balls and lane bumpers. No crowds, just walk in and plenty of open lanes available. Place is a little dated and old, not fancy, but OK for families to have a blast. Rates are $35 an hour per lane (up to 6 bowlers), $3.50 shoes rental. read more

OMG it's an F'ing Bowling Alley !! To hear all these complaints WTF. Drove in Hurricane Arthur on Fourth of July. Walked right in - no wait ! Friendly and helpful staff, clean restrooms. Auto scoring worked fine, no long wait for pins to set up. Very reasonable pricing espec. for a Fri night. $30- 3 people, 3 shoes and 45 min. of bowling. If you don't want your bowling experienced turned into a bar/ nightclub event but want a vintage/ retro/ safe place to Bowl just like when you were a kid this place is well worth. This place is very retro and old school. We had a really good time though. I had never been candle pin bowling so it was fun to try it and do something different. We were with 2 four year olds and they loved it. I would come back for sure. For the little ones I like the lighter smaller ball. So I actually went back last week - don't ask me what drove me here... The building has been repainted - at least out back. Looks nice and new. Parking is still hellish - but if you expect it when you get here then you'll do just fine. Note to you: please look for the arrows on the ground. Guy in front of me didn't and nearly hit me - loser! The place still smells the same - ahhhhh - bowling. So the place has been re-vamped since I was there last. The center area has an all new counter with lower areas for the kids/handicapped. It's been cleaned up some. Still the same gruff workers behind the counter, though. The arcade area has new arcade games and little skee-ball for the tykes, but they all take tokens only now - that's kinda lame. When I was there - they had half the building as regular bowl, and the other half as that dark neon "galaxy bowl". This place would be better if they served beer. The ball returns have changed - they are now a long rectangular box and the mechanics inside the ball return literally FIRE the balls out at you. Watch your fingers!!! Bowling is all automated scoring now. I miss the old pencil and overhead displays.... If you have kids, you can do worse than to kill time here. Prices are still reasonable to bowl a few frames. We will soon forget what it's like to warp back into classic mode and enjoy places like the Bowladrome unless we help bring them back to life! This place is a true diamond in the rough. Come in to a blast from the past and enjoy candlepin bowling at its best! This place books by 1/2 hour or hour not by game. It had a limited food selection: pizza, nachos and chicken nuggets. The rest comes from a vending machine. But don't let this stop you from coming. It has just enough to cover any cravings. It also had a fridge stocked with alcoholic beverages so you are good with wine, beer, Smirnoff ice, spiked seltzers and slushees for the kids. All the structures are originals and the traditional bowling carpet on the walls has recently been replaced but still in a classic style. I love that it still rocked candy dispensers that off $.25 pieces of candy. It also had a small arcade, keno for the gamblers and a party room. Come, enjoy this place and share it with your family. In response to Annemarie G. comment Yes, I am sure I am reviewing right place. When we got there, we were told that score is kept manually and were given paper and pencils. When asked about automatic scoring, were told it is broken. And when I asked if they will be fixed any time soon, I received very rude reply. Something like - we know when and how to run our business. Stay out of it. If my kid did not want to play bowling so bad, I would walk out right then. But we stayed for a game. Shoes did smell. I mean at $3/pair one would expect a clean, non smelly pair of shoes right? As for restrooms. If you really have a company come in every night...Well, you are getting rubbed if that is the best they can do in terms of cleaning. And staff was not friendly at all. Luckily there are plenty of bowling places around. If I am to spend my money, I want much better service than this. Sorry. read more

Overall a fun place to bowl. Still somewhat archaic, however, as the technology running the lane is not 100% accurate (it failed to recognize the ball passing through a couple times. The place also isn't the cleanest either and the food is nothing special. The staff also wasn't the best and failed to show up and give us a drink from the broken vending machine. This puts an unnecessary stress on your match since you don't know how long a string will last? People drive far enough for an establishment depending on their hours of operation It's dirty in the bathrooms, they don't know how to clean any tables and all their bowling balls are chipped beyond belief. I wish I had read Yelp before deciding to come up to Woburn to bowl. Ultimately we had fun, and the experience was good, but their website does not anywhere that I can find, state that they only have candlepin bowling. With forty lanes, as their website states, I figured that half would've been ten-pin. Oh well. Candlepin it is. We were a party of four. We booked an hour. We could not finish two strings! That surprised me. But then, I noticed that the pin resets were taking quite a while to do. I'm not a bowling machinery engineer, but I really did expect that we could've finished two strings in 60 min. We were almost done, but got cut off at the 8th frame or so. And we really weren't dawdling, we just weren't speed bowling. We also wished they served beer. I guess a lack of alcohol keeps the place cleaner and the riffraff out, but still. But hey, it's a bowling alley -- why are there so few bowling alleys in the Boston area? The one closer to us had leagues filling up all their lanes for the entire evening, so I guess Woburn is a good place to go on a weekday. One piece of advice: always call ahead, especially on a weekday -- because who knows. read more

I am in a league here and it's not cheap.The owners of this place should be ashamed. It looks like they haven't updated anything here since the 70's. The house balls have so many dimples, they look like big golf balls. They replaced the toilets so they have sensors, which will save them money but they have done nothing for customers. There are so many nicer places in the area that offer better environments at about the same cost. I didn't talk about parking. It's easier to find parking in Boston during a Patriots Parade. It says something about people who own businesses but fail to invest back into their business to improve the experience for their patrons. I have a love/hate relationship with the Woburn Bowladrome. On the one hand, it's reasonably priced and conveniently located. Seriously, the prices are awesome and for some reason it's one of the few bowling alleys in suburban Boston. I also like how they charge by the hour, rather than by the game. It can suck to get booted off the lane in the middle of a game, but it's definitely preferable to buying, say, three games. But there's annoying parts too. For one thing, no matter how many empty lanes they have, you'll inevitably get dumped in the middle of a group of people. I don't mind bowling next to adults, but oftentimes I'll end up next to a bunch of kids screaming or running around. The second problem is that a lot of the lanes are old, so they break down a lot. And the computer system will randomly give out extra points for no reason. Finally, not one television in that place works. Not that I go to a bowling alley to watch tv, but it'd be nice to have the Celtics or Red Sox up on the screen while I'm waiting for my turn to bowl. This is an affordable bowladrome with optional candle pin rail guards for when you and your friends are drunk and want to think you can bowl. If I had a kid, I'd probably throw them a party here. We came here to go bowling after we found another alley we usually went to was closed. It was clean, reasonably updated and priced. The side games were also great and there was food if we chose to eat there-pizza and other snack food mainly. Seemed like a nice place to have a kid's party with bumper bowling. I don't like my bowling dressed up or too clean. And that's why I like the Woburn Bowladrome. Sure, it's not the cleanest place in the world and parking out in the back can be a bit of an adventure. But bowling should be a lot of fun and that's exactly what you'll find here. They've got leagues, but not so many that it's not possible to find time to throw a string or three. Prices are reasonable and there's enough for the kids to do while the grownups are having fun. There's food in the area and from my experience they don't mind if you bring in somthing to munch. Our family loves coming to the Woburn Bowladrome! Yes, this is an old fashioned bowling alley. Yes, their automatic scoring system is on the older side, but it works. The décor is also a little dated, but that's half the fun! Everything has been kept clean over the years. The food is ok - pizza and some fried munchies. They do have a small selection of beer. But on a Friday or Saturday night, it is a perfect solution to kill some time with the kids and have fun. Candlepin (with the bumpers on) is our favorite! The kids can handle the small balls and there are no gutter balls to cry over. (Frankly, I need those bumpers too!) I just like that I can support a local family that has been in business for 75 years! Being from Florida, we do not have the candle pin bowling opportunity. This place had a nice nostalgic feel with decent prices. The sport of candle pin bowling is a challenge of its own, and can be quite frustrating. However, there was a staff member "Anthony", who was most helpful getting us set up and gave us plenty of tips. I still did not do all that well. This place is badly in need of renovations. Came here for the traveling tournament for my kids and within minutes of starting the tournament, we had to switch to another lane because the one we began on malfunctioned. Multiple times throughout the rest of the tournament we had to get help because of more malfunctions. I thought maybe it was just a fluke and the other side would be better so our family and I got an alley on the other side to bowl as a family, but we had the same problem on this side too. I really like coming to this bowling alley. Sometimes it's really quiet and nice, then other times it's very busy, but that's still okay. I always have a great time while I'm there. The only problem is, which isn't even a big deal to me, is that sometimes when bowl the screen says you knocked down more than you actually did. Not bad. It seems like they are trying to hard when it comes to making it a great place. It would be perfect as just a simple small town bowling alley environment. As an artist I was bothered by only one part of their decoration style. Someone who puts together the signs and posters really loves to use comic sans as a font. that part is just ugly.
