I've had two sessions with Ren Black Ink in the past few months-- one lasting four hours and the other lasting for six-- with another session scheduled in a month. He's an exceptional artist that also really cares about his clients. When I came in for my very first tattoo ever, he made sure to explain how each step worked, what products he was using, even what needle he was using at which times so that I could better match the different sensations and prepare myself if it was a needle that I found more painful. His tattooing technique is a lighter hand, which I found made the tattooing experience mostly mildly uncomfortable than actually painful. He also checks in regularly with his client during the session to make sure they're as comfortable as they can be and taking breaks as needed. He works with his clients to create the tattoo design that really encapsulates what they're looking for. His creativity is remarkable and he has a wonderful eye for composition, often coming up with designs that improve on the initial concept. I'm always excited to work with Ren to see what he comes up with from the inspiration images I send him. His aftercare is impeccable. He uses Tattoo Armour with Derm Shield over finished tattoos, reducing your risk of infection for the first 48 hours. He has aftercare instructions on his website, so if you have a goldfish memory like me, you can revisit the instructions at any time. He also wants his clients to check in with him over the healing process to make sure that they're doing and healing okay. I highly recommend him whether it's your first tattoo or your hundredth. My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of getting tattooed by Rocky this weekend. I'd been following their IG for years because they specialize in anime tattoos, and they do it incredibly well. My husband and I finally decided on getting a tattoo of a character from Adventure Time. Although AT isn't anime, it was anime adjacent enough for Rocky to be willing to accommodate. Booking our appointment was a breeze - I waited for them to open their books on IG and emailed straight away. Since we could only come on Saturdays, we were able to get an appointment just over a month out. We drove down from LA, and were able to find a great parking spot a block down. It took them 5 hours to complete 3 tattoos for us. I would say they were small (1.5"x1.5") medium (3"x3) in size, and two were in color. Rocky works quickly and efficiently. They are able to hold in depth conversations while doing their work with such ease. It's very impressive seeing them multitask when I can barely put laundry in the hamper while my husband asks me a question. They are able to talk in a way to make you feel at ease throughout your whole session. Our experience was exceptional. This was my husband's first tattoo and my 3rd and 4th. I've never had such a personal experience with a tattoo artist. Rocky is the sweetest person you'll ever meet - that's not even an exaggeration. My husband and I are afraid to speak up because we don't want to offend anyone, especially when commissioning art from an artist. Rocky was very professional and understanding. They encouraged us to speak up about what we wanted because this is a permanent commitment on our bodies. The result was we got exactly what we wanted and we could not be more thrilled about our experience. Not only were we over the moon about our experience with Rocky, but also the tattoo parlor. It's big, spacious, and clean. The artists are very friendly and approachable and it seemed like an artists' collective there. No one was intimidating, and everyone was very professional but welcoming. As others have said, they are very LGBTQIA+ friendly, which is probably why my experience at this shop is so different from my experiences at the other traditional tattoo shops I've been to. We can't say enough wonderful things about our experience with Wolf and Shadow. My husband is already talking about driving down here again for his next tattoo! She answered all my questions about a previous tattoo I had gotten, AND fixed said tattoo to the best of her ability. She made me feel welcome and really comfortable at her studio. If you are going there, proceed with caution , The store may have good reviews but I'm just writing a review on a particular artist from this shop----Carrie (carebeartattoo) She took our deposit and would not show us what designs she had in mind until the day of despite me asking her for her ideas. She waited until the last minute (after she took deposit) to tell me I would not be getting a sample drawing :( I don't think it was too much to ask, she got upset because I told her it was wrong to take my money and not deliver the drawing I asked for. I was going to meet her anyway and she then cancelled appointment and kept deposit. My point is that if she didn't want to show me what she was planning before , she should have told me weeks ago when we made appointment .
