This might be the most overprice restaurant that I've ever been to. Not to mention the service is terrible. In the 3 hours that we were at the restaurant (and not by choice), we saw the waiter 3x. The kitchen flash fried the steak so fast that it looked gray when it came out. That wasn't the worst of it, the steak had absolutely zero flavor. It looked like something you'd get in a middle school cafeteria. This place is absolutely robbing people with the money they charge. How the mighty have fallen. This revue is for the Sommerville, NJ restaurant only. (Let's hope the others aren't pulling the same nonsense). I have been a loyal patron and advertisement for the chain since the very first Wolfgang's opened in NYC. I am hoping that the tradition hasn't come to an end. Inflation ? Greed ? Cutting corners ? Full of themselves ? Who knows, who cares !?! The customer is in charge. Drink glasses are never full, shrimp cocktail are smaller, condiments are never offered unless requested and it is obvious that they are trying to give you the very least of everything. Tomato and onion salad consists of two slices of any tomato from Shoprite and a single slice of onion.( No blue cheese anymore either) $ 12.95....A person with 30 million Dollars would still get annoyed. German potatoes and creamed spinach sides are smaller, grilled asparagus are thinner than a pencil, the onion roll and bread is always stale and is never replenished; just in case you like a single onion roll and stale bread for six people. Whipped butter has been replaced by frozen pats of Shoprite butter. Steak suddenly has a "gamey" smell and flavor and is now served in smaller portions. I guess if you take 2 or 3 pieces from every order and put them on the side that you can make an extra 12-15 steaks each night and sell those too. Waiters also inform you that you can no longer order a porterhouse rare and medium rare ?!? (You always used to be able to do that, which made sense because they used to "assemble" their porterhouse steaks from different cuts of meat). $ 235.00 a person and left feeling disgusted instead of satisfied which used to be the standard. Even the sparkling water bottles are smaller and of a lesser quality. I'll try the Tribeca branch just to see if these problems are exclusive to the Sommerville branch, however, if you know that is the same nonsense all around then please let me know so I can save my money, just as I have saved you your money from sad, sad Sommerville. read more

This is a place to really sit back and enjoy the meal. I've been here 3 times, all for special occasions since it is expensive (worth it!). We usually order the Porterhouse for 2, two sides, and split a salad to start. On last visit, started off with 2 cocktails and they were great. Bread basket was assorted breads and flatbread/crackers. Good! The food is incredible - steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and cooked to perfection. All of the people working here were very professional and warm. Just a really upscale vibe but wasn't snobby. Had live music (jazzy) in the bar area on a Saturday night (which makes waiting 30 minutes for our reservation not too terrible). Do not go here if you are in a rush. Savor the night! The place looks expensive but upon my surprise it wasn't out of this world expensive. Wolfgang's is definitely not a place to go regularly but for special occasions it's perfect. Upon arriving our waiter was as professional as can be. Reciting the specials so thoroughly and humoring us at the same time. The customer service was definitely a plus! Also, i'm not a huge steak girl but there was so much more to offer. I got the iceberg salad which was amazing. As someone who isn't a big fan of bacon, it was the best bacon i've ever had. I also got the chicken parm which was cooked to perfection and offered with a side of pasta. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach because when leaving i took bags of leftovers home. HOT night in Somerville (and car show) but this upscale restaurant was cool and perfectly lit- dinner with friends and were immediately seated, center table which was oddly not too noisy despite the many tables celebrating birthdays around us. Impressive wine list but skipped the high end Silver Oak and Opus bottles for a cool pinto Grigio which was perfect. Great breadbasket with rolls and seeded flatbreads. Split a Caesar salad with the husband- he had the petite filet- and it was so delicious he only shared one bite. We ordered mash potatoes and creamed spinach to round out the meal. Place is nice, we are frequent customers but lately it's a hit or miss. Our waiter wasn't so attentive this time around and my husbands steak came out the wrong temperature. It was already to late to make a new one but the manager didn't even come out to address it and we weren't even offered coffee or dessert since it was a slower night for them. Surprised to see that this place only got three stars, it was absolutely amazing. Me and my girlfriend went here for our anniversary dinner and we both were more than satisfied with the food as well as the service. First off during this time with coronavirus they have excellent outdoor seating. We got the Canadian bacon to start and it was so crispy fatty and savory, everything you could want! I got the ribeye and she got the 8oz filet mignon both cooked to perfection with a nice crusty sear on the outside. We got the lobster Mac and mashed potatoes to split which both were good but the Mac was extremely good. So the establishment is presented as an upper echelon steakhouse therefore you would go here for steak and you will pay a lot. Baseline established. That said this rating is based on the porterhouse for two. It was excellent and on par with PL (always the best). Juicy, buttery, cooked perfectly and well marbled. I took some home and I saw the marbling in the meat when cold sliced. Good sign. The apps were good; Oysters Rockefeller was tasty, the burratta lacked the gooey cream but still was good, the sides were excellent; german potatoes, mushrooms, and creamed spinach were good and the dessert was as well. The service was what I would expect from that type of place. We never were left needing anything other than a nap. The atmosphere was loud but whatever. They had live music and if people are having good food and a good time you can expect some noise. I would go back for sure. read more

Our first time at this Wolfgang's location. Happy to say that it did not disappoint. The food was every bit as good as other Wolfgang's location in NYC. For appetizers, we ordered oysters on the half shell, thick cut crispy bacon, and a crab cake. Oysters were delicious, fresh, with just the right amount of brine. The bacon was outstanding. The crab cake had nice large chunks of crab meat, but a little too much bread for my taste. We ordered a porterhouse for two, a rib steak, a sirloin, and the salmon. All were perfectly cooked. I have tons of respect for Wolfgang pick however this steakhouse meal was an extreme disappointment. I Ordered the full rack of baby back ribs. It came with pineapple current chutney that was good but cut into pieces that were too large. The ribs were obviously boiled and not bbq'd. Unfortunately the majority of these reviews are right. This restaurant by far mis represents the quality dining experience you should expect, especially with the NYC prices in the heart of Somerville. This is my total review, from someone who regularly eats at Char and Steakhouse 85 in New Brunswick. Atmosphere would have been a 10 (would have) great classic interior space, plenty of nice woodwork, but, at about 9pm on a Thursday in the dining room area, they started playing Electronic music at a much higher volume over the sound system. From Frank Sinatra to EDM in seconds, we were very confused. When we left I saw they had a DJ in the bar. I don't disagree with adding some nightlife to the bar on a Thursday night, but don't blast that music in the dining room as well. The people who were in the dining room definitely did not fit the demographic of the music that was being played and it was very obvious that it was making some of the patrons have to speak louder to have a conversation, in the dining room. Service started out as you would expect from a fine steakhouse. Offering an opinion on steaks, great bread. Unfortunately I will explain what happened, but our total dining time came to three and a half hours. Pretty tough here to order a glass of wine due to the price, so expect to order a bottle. We ordered a 2012 from California, but we're brought a 2011, which if you know anything about wine you'll know that 2011 was a terrible year for California. We sent it back and asked for a different wine that was a 2012. Our steaks came out. One large filet and one porterhouse for two. Both ordered medium rare, filet was epic, but the porterhouse (which is their signature steak if you know lugars or wolfgangs) was over done, past medium, right around medium well. If you have ever had s porterhouse you know they slice it for you, so being that it was so overdone, it should have never made it to the table. After saying something, a new steak was bright out quickly, and it was what we had originally expected, excellent. After dinner we did order expressos and dessert. The waiter captain did offer us a complimentary dessert drink, my fiancé got ice wine, it was delicious. No lemon with the expresso, it was good otherwise. The big problem with the dessert was we ordered Creme Brûlée. After the first bite I noticed something wasn't right. I shared it with the others at the table, the custard didn't have any sugar. It was very yellow, and was basically a quiche. It was extremely eggy and if not for the sugar on top would have been absolutely terrible. For $12 I really would have expected much better. We had already had to send the wine back and the steak back at this time, so we just kept it to ourselves about the Creme Brûlée. The biggest problem with the night came when it came time for the bill. After dessert, table runners passing by cleared the table, but our waiter did not stop back, for about 35 minutes. Didn't stop to ask if we needed anything else, ask if we wanted the bill, ask if we wanted another drink, nothing. After leaving the Resturaunt, I check my bank account, they must have mad a mistake splitting the bill, and charged my card twice. I called in and spoke to the manager and was assured that the charge had been a mistake and was already reversed, but it will take a few days to come off. Like another reviewer mentioned, for a place with 4 locations in NYC and one in Tokyo, Beverly Hills, and Miami. They should have opening a new location without growing pains down pat. I'm sorry to report that we were not impressed with the food, the service and the overall setting. My wife got the filet and it was over cooked. She ordered medium rare and it was more on the medium plus side. My Sea Bass was not flaky... It was more tough like a swordfish. The sides were very large portions and seemed like a lot of wasted food. We passed on desert because we weren't that sold after the main meal and apps was just ok. No need to return! We took my mother-in-law here for Mother's Day and it was a great experience for all of us. The servers were very attentive, but did not rush us at all. Been trying to figure out a way to tactfully review this restaurant for a week now. Just cant find the right approach, so Ill just wing it.. The restaurant: Beautiful, lush interior with an enormous bar. Classic wood finishes and accommodating seating arrangements. The service: Immediately upon being seated, our waiter arrived and greeted us in a familiar Brooklyn accent that seemed to resonate between every waiter that passed by. It was a warm and charming welcome, with a "how ya doin" flair. Throughout our stay at the restaurant our waiter seemed to have disappeared from time to time, and on two occasions I had to flag down someone to help us for a refill on our wine. The food: for appetizers we got the lobster salad and tuna tar tar, mine being the lobster. The size of the appetizers is something of gigantic proportions. The the entree - we had the 8oz and 16oz filet, mine being the 16oz. I asked for it medium and I received it purple and cool on the inside. The sides (since you meal doesnt come with anything) are all a la cart, so we grabbed the sauteed onions and mashed potatos and both were decent. Desert was good. Overall: I think the service could have been better, but since this place has just recently opened, I will assume that it can only get better. The food, and specifically my steak - which I would have assumed for the price would have been cooked to perfection and tasted out of this world, was anything but. At a final price point of $220 for dinner, I found myself wondering.. "was this worth it - and will i come back?" - and the answer - Im sorry to say, no. read more

Wow was I shocked with my experience at Wolfgang's! I am a Somerville local and was thrilled to see that Wolfgang's was coming to town. I don't do a ton of fine dining but an establishment like Wolfgang's in our little town is pretty cool. After eating there, however, I would rather have anything else! OK so first of all it was incredibly loud in the restaurant. My party of 4 was seated right next to one of the waiter's stations where they would frequently gather to yell at each other and regroup. They also kept bumping into my chair. Definitely the worst seat in the house. We waited FOREVER for someone to come over and take our order. How hard is it to take our drink order? When we did get our drinks, it wasn't until I was halfway finished with my beer that I realized my mug was chipped in multiple places around the rim. I hope I didn't swallow any glass. I will send them the bill if I did. We ordered a ton of appetizers: lump crab, crab cakes, mozzarella & tomato salad, and bacon. They were good. Not amazing but good. For my entree I ordered the grilled sea bass with creamed spinach. The sea bass was either 29.99 or 39.99. Whatever it was, it was a ridiculous for a piece of dry fish I could have easily made myself. Ditto on the creamed spinach. Someone else in my party ordered steak fries and the waiter asked if we would like ketchup and we said yes. THEN HE DISAPPEARED FOR THE REST OF OUR MEAL. We asked a bus boy for ketchup and HE ALSO DISAPPEARED. So we didn't have ketchup the entire time we were there. I should call Heinz. Our water wasn't even refilled until we were paying the bill. I noticed something very weird, also--there were no female servers. I'm not sure if this was just that night or if they really don't have any female servers but it's 2015. Wake up. Maybe a female server would've been a tad more attentive to our table. TL;DR Don't go here. For those with more money than sense ... What can I say? My parents and I get together every few weeks to try a different steakhouse, so we know what's out there. While the meat at Wolfgang's is good, there's no excuse for cooking it improperly. My husband's medium-rare sirloin was raw in the middle; my medium-rare filet was medium-well, verging on well-done in some places. My parents like their steaks medium-well ... Which it was in some places and medium-rare in others. Zero consistency. The sides were mediocre at best. Mashed potatoes tasted like instant, the broccoli was rubbery and cold. The fries were good - hot and well seasoned, but not enough to save a $400 tab of D- food. Especially when they came out well after all our steaks! I'm glad we skipped the appetizers because the salads were totally lackluster - the meat is clearly the focus. I don't mind paying for quality, but this was not it. The service was also terrible, bordering on abusive. Our main waiter yanked the wine list from our table without a word to give it to another party. When I asked for it back, his reply was "Do you need it right away?" The underwaiter made up for this crappy attitude, but the grouchy one came back to spirit off my empty wine glass, and never even offered a refill. We had to track him down for that too. The service happening around us didn't appear to be any better - we almost got another table's food twice while we waited, and waiters were bumping into patrons left and right without even a "sorry." And this was on a night when Wolfgang himself was there. While I appreciate they had a full house for a Saturday dinner rush, the place was so loud we could barely hear each other. They do have a nice wine list and great selection of bourbon. Skip the table service and head to the bar mid-week if you must go. We traveled to Somerville based on our good NYC experiences, and were excited that we didn't have to park and pay a toll to cross the bridge! First, the positives....... The service was very nice. Funny, friendly waiters were the only reason this place gets more than 1 star (what am I some kind of critic?). :) The ribeye (husband ordered) was perfectly cooked. For $52. it should be. But it was a tasty piece of meat. Nice live music and piano player on a half full Friday night. Lovely music. Now, the negatives (in my humble opinion).......... Very dark inside, no candles on table, the only light coming into the dining room was from the BLARING HUGE FLAT SCREEN TVs at the bar....so annoying! Not one Italian wine by the glass (I know it's a steakhouse, but a Barolo? Barbaresco? I see they have stupid chicken parm on the menu.....oh yeah, I forgot, I am in NJ!). My tuna tartare for $22 (appetizer) was awful. Mixed w/ white raw onion? and served w/ some white toasts (bruschetta?) and a miniscule flavorless piece of avocado. Is there an actual "chef" in the kitchen? Sad. My $40 piece of sea bass, tasteless, bland. Boring. As was the chopped salad with feta, that was not briny, and needed salt. Last gripe, and not the fault of the restaurant......it's the area. 3 tables of people in sweatshirts and HOODIES (2 of them young adults).......this is an upscale NYC steakhouse?........there was a guy hanging at the bar in shorts and a knit hat at 10 pm (a grown man in 20F in February).........why open this place in SOMERVILLE????? Have a dress code please, it works for Roots in Summit. No t-shirts or sweat shirts. Collars only. Nothing exciting or healthy on the menu, I know, it's a steakhouse.......but we will stick with ROOTS in Summit, their food is so much better, the atmosphere is elegant, and you get the delicious popovers!!! All I can say, hate vegetables much? So first off, this place is EXPENSIVE. Like not $30 for a main course expensive but $50+ for one thing. We're in Somerville, not NYC. Heck, I've been to "expensive" restaurants in NYC that cost less than this! So, the restaurant itself is nice. The wooden floors were a nice touch(although my boots had no traction whatsoever). Lighting was alright. Basically the place looked fine. Now for the food. Like I mentioned before, this place hates greens. This is one of those places where you buy the meat and that's all you get. No included sides, just the meat. Honestly, I cannot eat just meat. I'm sorry if I am into a more balanced meal. The sides were as expensive as a meal in a cheaper restaurant. $12 for a plate of sauteed mushrooms? I got it and yeah, I could make them taste ten times better for a fraction of that cost. Oh and don't get me started on the steak. It was just that. Steak. Nothing extra about it, no depth of flavor, just meat. This is always a negative in my book because I NEED flavor other wise the food tastes bland. So I ended up getting a chocolate mousse to go. The service was about the worst I had ever experienced. Rude, absent, aloof, jerk would all be words that would describe our waitstaff. The bread was cold and the likes you would get from a pizzeria. The food lacked seasoning. I ordered fish and when it took 30 minutes to come out after our appetizers, the waiter bluntly said "sole takes a while to cook, seven more minutes". What, fish takes ~35 minutes to cook? It was not as if te restaurant was packed either, we were in a sea of empty tables on a Friday night. When the food did arrive, it was bland as can be unfortunately. When the bill arrived, my Dover sole was $5 more expensive than was quoted to me prior to ordering and our seafood tower was $2 cheaper! I guess the waiter was just making numbers up.
