Went for dinner tonight because of the high recommendations. Was not impressed except for one dish. The moo shu pork was excellent. Honestly it was excellent. We also ordered bourbon chicken which was not like bourbon chicken it was basically big chunks of chicken not Reddit or deep fried with a whole bunch of vegetables - they have it under the sweet and sour section which is completely misleading because it should be under the regular vegetable and meat section. Also the amount of pepper on it was Ludacris like you could see black specks everywhere it was so peppery. It's supposed to be sweet and sticky and that was not it. I ordered the Sah cha shrimp and again it was three shrimp with a whole bunch of big vegetables. The Ho Fun was a glob of stuck together overcook noodles. No sauce as far as we could tell unless it's just soaked right in and made everything sticky although we only were eating 10 minutes after we picked it up. Spring rolls and egg rolls nothing to write home about - may have been purchased at a restaurant warehouse. Subgum wonton soup had good wontons but only a couple tiny shrimp a few minor strips of pork and I mean like shaving strips and a whole bunch of broccoli and other stuff vegetables which is not typically subgum wonton. Have you ever had Orange beef where the texture and sound made you feel you were chewing on chicken bones? Maybe you've had sticky white rice that was barely even sticky...? Well, you can have all of those things and more at Wong's. This is literally the absolute worst Chinese food I've ever eaten!!! The ONLY redeeming dish was the steamed shrimp with vegetables. That was the only one even my dog was begging for. Unfortunately, that wasn't worth giving them one star back. I did not take a pic of the BBQ ribs or the Shrimp and bean Sprouts I ordered. The ribs LOOKED quite delicious but the sauce on them tastes like it had cinnamon or nutmeg in it. Definitely an interesting choice. As for the Shrimp with Beansprouts, well I am just tired of snapping pics of gross food but trust it was sloppy mess. The bean sprouts were soggy and it was positively drowning in sauce. I'm telling you, this restaurant really made me doubt the quality of all the other Chinese restaurants I've ever been to in my entire life. I actually had to look up recipes to see if all other restaurants have been preparing my food incorrectly. I will tell you..:they have not. Wongs is the only Chinese food restaurant where you will have celery and carrots in your hot and sour soup...BBQ spareribs that will taste like Autumn potpourri and orange beef so crispy/old/burnt (?) it's doubtful it even has any beef in it. It was absolutely perfect if I had ordered Fried Cardboard though or Chicken Wings without the flesh. So, if that's your kind of thing, eat up!! I'd suggest however that you heed this warning and any other negative review. I beg of you. Best Chinese food on the area! It's easy to miss if you don't know it's there, but so many people recommended this place to us when we lived in the area and it did not disappoint! It was hard finding a suitable replacement when we moved out of the city. Never had a wrong order, portions are generous for the price, always tasted fresh. Literally no complaints. Sometimes we had to wait in line outside in the parking lot because it is such a small place in the corner of a strip mall, but it was worth it. read more

Chosen for convenience (and positive reviews on Google) this place did not disappoint! We ordered to-go (not really an eat-in establishment) and within our party we had a spring roll (good flavor but slightly dried wrapper), Singapore mei fun (very flavorful, right amount of spice, lots of protein- pork, shrimp, chicken) and tender crisp veggies), hot and sour soup (veggies tender crisp in there too which is an achievement), and chicken and broccoli (this was one of the lunch specials, came with pork fried rice- generous on the chicken and very well-prepared broccoli). There was a lot of food for the money, and there would have been pictures except that we were also so hungry that we just started eating! (and partially eaten Chinese does not photograph well).. We also got the hot and sour soup which was also very tasty with great flavor and lots of veggies. Our dining companion got the broccoli and chicken lunch special which comes with roast pork fried rice in a very generous portion. The sauce is nicely savory and the broccoli was perfectly tender crisp. The prices were really good for the amount and quality of food. The restaurant is really just an order counter in a slightly dodgy strip mall (although they do have online and phone ordering) - there's not really any seating or anything. I really enjoy Wong's Kitchen, especially for their scallion pancakes. They're crispy and delicious and not too oily/greasy. Another favorite is their Mei Fun noodles; lots of flavor with chicken, pork, and shrimp and perfectly cooked noodles. I've been happy with everything I've ordered from here and their service is great. The food is solid, nothing extraordinary, but when I'm craving Chinese, it fits the bill. They accept to-go orders currently via phone or their website and you can pay with cash or card when you pick up. read more

I have been going to Wong's Kitchen for many years at holiday time. It's always been great until this year. The staff is friendly and do a great job, except for the quality of the food in terms of taste. It just wasn't that good, as it has been in years past. I understand the owners are relatively new. Perhaps they could contact the long time former owners and get their recipes. I won't be going there next year. This makes me sad. read more

We ordered the scallion pancakes, General Tao's chicken, orange beef and veggie fried rice. 1. The scallion pancakes were so oily and chewy. I only ate 4 of them. Too bad because they gave us a generous amount. The sauce was tangy and fresh. 2. The chicken was way too much corn starch batter coating and not enough chicken. It was 4 to 1, batter to chicken. The sauce was ok, nothing special. 3. The orange beef was the same, way too much batter coating. They threw in some cooked orange rinds which were chewy. Disappointing overall. 4. The veggie fried rice was the highlight. Nice fresh veggies and the rice wasn't over cooked or over "soy'd". Delicious really. read more

With such a variety of defenders and detractors I had to try Wong's for myself. If you're looking for spice and heat I'm not sure what to tell you to get it to the level you want here. Thanks to Daniel W. I specifically asked for my dish to be spicy but alas the garlic chicken not so much. Maybe I didn't put enough eeeeee's in my eeeeeeextra spicy request. There was a good amount of sauce. It was cooked very well, tender chicken with vegetables still retaining a crisp. I found the hot and sour soup not very flavorful either but chuck full o tofu. Solid American Chinese. Nothing over the top, but a general decent quality that I expect. Cheese wonton was lacking in filling and flavor, so I'll pass on those again. I haven't been here in months and just found out there are new owners. I bought 5 lunches and no one liked the taste of any of them. The pork in the lo mein was spoiled so we had to throw it away. This use to be my favorite restaurant but I will never eat here again. read more

Best Chinese food I've had since moving to Rochester. It's not an Asian fusian place or trying to cook all different styles, it's just great what you want Chinese food. Other places have had some good items, but they always miss on something key, like the fried rice is dry, or the lo mein is oily and gross, but Wong's hit the spot with everything I ordered- and was fantastically affordable for my grad school budget as well. +1 for selling 20oz sodas and a variety. They have a huge menu, and I'm looking forward to ordering again and knowing it won't be hit or miss with each dish! read more

Don't know what happened to Wong's, lately. Go-to place for the last few years until the last few months. Quality seems to have suffered recently and food swimming in oil. This place was great; good prices, quality, flavor and friendly service. Service is still friendly and good prices but the quality of the food and prep is definitely not the same as a few months ago. Faces have changed along with the food. Don't know if Wong's has been sold, or is being run by others, but won't be going back for a while in the hopes that things straighten out. I'm not looking for authentic adventurous Chinese delicacies...this place doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. That said I was really impressed with the texture, flavor and quality of the food and so many places around here manage to jack up these quintessential dishes we pretend we don't like, but scarf down when no one is watching. Pork fried rice for starters: moist, fluffy, not too greasy, no annoying bean sprouts and other crapola. soy sauce not even needed..mmm steamed dumplings..these were on point chicken with broccoli..thank you for making this with savory brown sauce instead of the bland white sauce I see too often, crunchy cruciferous broccoli..the perfectly cooked white rice..it was all just too good. In town for business and had a craving for Chinese food. Looked up reviews of places and decided this place had the most recent good reviews, and it was pretty good. Ordered Beef and Snow Peas special with fried rice and an egg roll. Not bad for $8. Entree was tasty and loved the vegetables. Fried rice was ok. Egg roll was good size, albeit no meat in it. I also ordered Egg drop soup with wontons. Soup needed a little more taste but the wontons were very good. Definitely would like to try some other items, but overall pretty good. read more

Wong's Kitchen is a standard Chinese takeout restaurant that is a good balance of price and quality. If I am craving some pork fried rice and schezwan beef, this is my go to place. My girlfriend was impressed with their sweet and sour chicken because it was lightly batter and not too greasy. When I called and asked for a refund I was passed around to several different people and finally talked to someone that under stood me. He said he would refund my money. This place has a ginormous selection. Apparently you need to go early for their sizzling rice dishes. Everything tastes fresh, except for the vegetables that probably came out of cans which tasted like they were about to hit their expiration dates--chestnuts and baby corn--slightly sour for which I might have given 3 stars. (We have that same problem at home when we don't watch these canned vegetables in our cabinets. Had the tofu been sour, I would have not have given this place 4 stars.). I would give this place another shot especially since it is close to where we spend our time. The parking is tight so when driving to take out it might be a good idea to have one person drive and another person pick up. I go here all the time with my husband and all I can say is I will never go to another Chinese kitchen. They have successfully made me a "forever" client. We have tried almost everything on the menu between the two of us. They have amazing food and low prices. Service is fast, and they are never rude or impolite. Wong's Kitchen puts all other Chinese take out to shame. Growing up, my family never ate out because my mom is such a great cook. However, Wong's Kitchen was one place we ordered from many times. Not only do I love their food, but it's ruined Chinese takeout for me because I haven't been able to find one that matches their flavor and quality. A few items that I always remember and use for comparison at other restaurants: Their lo mein is always cooked to order. The noodles still have substance, which I find uncommon elsewhere. Everyone else's noodles are so mushy that it's kinda gross to eat. I also like how they aren't oversauced and even occasionally pick up singe marks from the wok, which really adds some flavor. Cheese wontons were the guilty pleasure of 10th grade. Most places call them crab rangoon, although the only traces of shellfish is the imitation crab. I love dipping the crispy corners into sweet and sour sauce. Subgum wonton soup is the perfect winter meal. A soup to keep warm and lots of veggies and wontons to fill you up. I loved sprinkling crispy noodles on top for that extra crunch. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu and they're very accommodating. One note, if you're trying to cut back on oil and fats, I recommend asking for the food to be steamed or cooked in water. A lot of the dishes are cooked in oil first for extra flavor before stir frying them. I love that extra oomf, although it's completely understandable if it's not everyone's cup of tea. read more

After spending most of life in the Washington, DC-Metro area, I know a good carryout when I find it. This is one of those places. A hidden gem in the shadow of the East Ave Wegmans. I love this little Chinese restaurant because the food reminds me so much of what I'm used to having at home. I stick with beef and broccoli or chicken with broccoli, wonton soup, pork egg rolls and I ALWAYS sub noodles for rice and ask for my garlic sauce to be a bit spicy. I'll probably get more creative during my next trip to Wong's, but for now I'm just happy the restaurant is within walking distance of my apartment. read more

This is my go-to place in the North Winton Village for Chinese take-out. Not only can you call in your order, but you can now order online as well. Another great thing is that most of the time, they do delivery. Whenever I've ordered delivery, it's there in about 20 minutes or less! I love the Kung Pao, egg rolls, and the sesame chicken.
