Wong's is great! The boneless spare ribs are really tasty - some pieces are crunchy, some fatty, some chewy...all pieces are salty, sweet deliciousness. Is it "real" Chinese food? I have no idea, as I've never been to China. But, I can say that Wong's makes some yummy meals. read more

I am a stickler when it comes to good take-out because I'm originally from NYC where Chinese food is a Major food group. The food here is fantastic. Yes it is a hole in the wall but the point is you get your stuff and go. I live a mile away and there are a few other options nearer to me but WONG'S is the best. OH AND THE COUNTER help is a sweetheart. This is a true family business and the folks there work hard to give your family good eats. On top of all that... if there is any adjustment or reimagining of a dish you can come with they'll do it. I even brought the TOFU noodles from wegmans in there so they could make something real with them for me.. IT WAS AWESOME! read more

Tried them again a couple of weeks ago, after having had some of the most banal pseudo-chinese food about 3 years prior. Nope, nothing has changed; the place is still a hole-in-the-wall, the counter help is surly, and the food is the same lame garbage as before. This place is probably stocked by the exact same wholesaler that all the other cheapo Chinese places use, because the food is the same bland stuff. Absolutely NOTHING special here. Prices are fairly cheap and the food is edible, but if you're looking for anything resembling DECENT Chinese food, forget this place. read more

I have been in some gnarly Chinese takeout places that are dirty and greasy and nasty. This is not one of those places. It's nice and clean. The guy I live with is a regular customer and he raves about this place. The counter girl knows him, she knows his order and gives him excellent service. I went to pick up food for us and by one little quirk in his order she knew exactly who it was for. I found her to be very nice, not at all rude as the other reviewer implies. I thought the food very good, it wasn't greasy. I loved the egg drop soup, I find some places it tends to be very thick and tasteless and a bit slimy. They also have cheese wontons which I have never seen at another place so I had to try them, they were crispy, filled with cream cheese and scallions. Delicious. When I want Chinese this is going to be my go to place. It's located in a decent area, easy to find and get to. I definitely recommend this place for Chinese takeout. read more

Ordered a hot and sour soup and it was like chicken broth and sriracha sauce with some diced tofu and veggies. Not the kind of hot and sour soup that I am used to at most chinese places. I keep going back every once in a while hoping the food will be decent, but am dissappoinited each time. There are WAY better choices for chinese/oriental food within a couple miles. read more

This is hands down the best Chinese food in Rochester. I'm a vegetarian and their bean curd in garlic sauce is my staple meal. Their spring tools and egg rolls are amazing too. My wife doesn't even like Chinese food and she loves the pork fried rice and crab Rangoon. I highly recommend this gem. read more

We at work order out for lunch and Wongs is our Chinese shop of choice.. Dirt cheap....I go with the pint orders and get close to a quart...$4.50 for most common choices....I have even started to order things I have tried..Always edible and filling...For the price its here or McDz Wendyz etc...No thanks.. I eat here all the time, usually I get some sort of tofu. The food is very good and consistent unlike many other Chinese restaurants I've found. The staff is friendly, the food is cheap and I always get it on time, and I always know what I'm getting when I go here. I order from here all the time as I live very close by. I've never had a dish that wasn't above average for these type of joints. The staff is always very pleasant and the food is always done on time. If I had a complaint it would be that everything spicy I have tried needs to be spicer, but when I tell them I like it eeeeeeextra spicy they do the trick. Big ups, wongs! read more

Wong's Kitchen is tucked away in a plaza near the corner of East Avenue and Winton Road offering standard American-Chinese food. There is limited seating, and most of the orders are for takeout. The food is reasonably priced and includes fresh ingredients. The portions are so large the most orders usually last two meals. read more

I really like this place. There are a lot of good Chinese restaurants in ROC but this place is close to home and always tasty with quick service. I usually get the beef and broccoli which is not exactly gourmet as far as Chinese is concerned but it hits the spot and is easy on the wallet. When I do deviate from my usual I am always satisfied. I've tried the curry dish and the pepper chicken and the bourbon chicken... On a personal note - I prefer to support independent businesses... the people here are friendly and efficient... I have been coming to Wongs for the past 2 years and absolutely love them. Their prices are great and the online ordering is hassle free. They have gotten my orders right every time and have been extremely quick. Not once have I ever had to wait for an order, even when they were busy. I'm from Rochester but moved to Denver last year. The Chinese food in the mile high city stinks, so it was awesome when I came back and had some great general tsos, pork fried rice and cheese wontons from this joint! The chicken was crispy and tender and was perfectly spicy. The rice was tender and balanced. Cheese wontons are good...crispy and delicious. Wong's is great and I'll try to have it again before I go back to Denver. Delivery was quick too and the driver was friendly. read more

It's pretty well known that most Americans don't order takeout versions of Chinese haute cuisine. The uninspiring menu at Wong's Kitchen is what will sell. But the Lin family are Chinese and make Chinese food, nothing like what is on the menu, for their own meals and for special occasions. If you are knowlegeable about Chinese cuisine, Mr. Lin wll gladly make whatever you want to order. I know this because he has done so for me. The hitch is that one needs to engage the Lin adult children in translating for him your interestsand questions. He can make any sauce, and given some notice, most dishes. As for counter service, their own kids have always been super friendly to me, but they study hard, go to college and get replaced at the counter by young folk whose English is shaky, not surly. read more

We recently happened upon Wrong Kitchen again because my brother wanted to try it and had not been living in Rochester the last few years. I had no knowledge or input into getting food and found it after arriving for dinner. I think it is intended to fool/appease Americans but it's not 70's anymore and I imagine the take out back then was better. There is no way the Asian people there eat this crap. Still trying to understand the accolades by others. How is it rated 3.5 stars?? Hoping it closes down. Terrible food , with big thick chunks of bell peppers and onions fried up in some bulk order jar sauce. You can make this yourself in 10 seconds. It's better at Wegmans foodbar for CS. Also raised prices since last time. If you order for your garbage can it will be excited to receive some Wrong Kitchen. Many other acceptable, and even a few top notch Chinese places in Rochester such as TsingTao House are here which is probably where the workers and owners of Wrong Kitchen go to eat. read more

The food just isn't seasoned. No flavor. Looks right and fresh but no punch at all. So bland.

We ordered takeout from Wong's Kitchen yesterday, and it was pretty much on par with other Chinese food I've had in Rochester (which, unfortunately, isn't saying much). The pork egg rolls were pretty good - clearly fresh out of the fryer, and very crispy. The one downside was they were very messy to eat (maybe because they're so big?). The fried dumplings were disappointing. They tasted exactly like every other dumpling I've tried in Rochester, which makes me wonder if all these restaurants are buying them pre-made from the same distributor. The accompanying sauce was really salty. We also got the beef with broccoli, which had a decent brown sauce, but the meat was really tough and not very tasty. Similarly, the moo goo gai pan had a decent sauce, but the chicken was pounded flat and looked more like a white version of the beef than actual chicken. Still, it was better meat than I've had in other Chinese restaurants. On the bright side, I like that you can easily order online and select your pickup time. I would consider coming back (though I think next time I'll order vegetarian). read more

The food is good. The girl who is ~always at the register and taking orders is always smiling and very kind. The prices are fair and the amount of food per order is plenty. I have been a regular here for 5+ years without a negative experience. Although I am not experienced in the intricacies of Chinese cooking, the food here is always good and above many other restaurants that I have had in Rochester, NY.
