I've only been here twice but boy oh boy, both times have been incredible. The first time (unfortunately no photos), I got the bulgogi bbq and it was AMAZING. This place doesn't serve the best Korean food I've ever had, but it's also really hard to find Korean food at all in Buffalo! I went with my family over the weekend at lunchtime, and it was really quiet and empty. We didn't have to wait to get seated at all, which was nice. Waitstaff were pretty attentive and friendly. I love Korean seafood pancakes, so we had to order that. It was pretty good! Maybe a bit too oily for me, but had great flavor. All were delicious but my favorites were the pork and chicken. Worked out well since my husband perfered the beef. Everything was seasoned perfectly though I'm not necessarily sure what the flavors were.. just knew they were good. I woke up with a craving for Korean food this morning. Being in Western NY, authentic Korean cuisine is scant. I found Woo Chon on yelp and decided to take a drive. I walked in to a very pleasant restaurant with a calm ambiance. I personally love a more calming atmosphere with soft music rather than loud pop. They'd classical music on. Me likey! The service was fantastic, a very friendly young man waited on me and suggested a few things. I ordered the seafood soondubu as well as ddukbokki. My meal came with all the appetizer dishes pictured. I have been here a few times in the past, ordering prepared meals off the menu. I really like the Crispy Rice Bowls served in super hot stone bowls. During myy most recent meal here with friends, we ordered the Korean Barbecue which comes with raw meat that you cook yourself on a hot grill in the middle of the table. This was an experience you need to try at least once. It was fun but I definately prefer that their kitchen cook for me. We still had a good time cooking our own food with friends. One note about the beverages they offer. They serve no alcoholic beverages and most other beverages are served from individual cans or bottles, no fountain drinks. We decided to try this Korean Restaurant because of its high Yelp reviews. I called up for a reservation and they said we could come in at 6:15 but had to leave by 7:30. I agreed. We arrived at 6:10 and our orders weren't taken until 6:35. Our waitress wasn't very helpful and actually rude at times. We were seated at a cooking station where you cook your own barbecue,which was fine. I ordered the Bulgogi. My friend ordered fried rice and a noodle dish. She came back 10 minutes later and said we had to order 2 barbecue dishes to sit where we were. So we ordered the barbecue for 2. She didn't bring our tea or water out. We didn't see her again until she plopped our food down. That's when we found out we had to do the cooking, which we didn't have a problem with. All the food was delicious and we didn't see her until 7:28 when she told has we had to leave because other people were waiting for our table. She than starts hurriedly busing our table without giving us a bill. She said you have to leave and I told her I would be glad to if I got my bill. Buffalo is lucky to have Woo Chon Korea House. But is it good? Not quite. Woo Chon is a basic Korean restaurant that serves no-frills Korean staples. If you've been to Korea or eaten Korean food in a big city you'll probably find Woo Chon to be below average. The side dishes are lazy and sparse. The soups lack flavor. The bbq is as middle of the road as you can get. The service is confusing -- food comes out quickly but you need to ask three times for a refill. They don't have a liquor license so don't go here looking to have a beer with your bbq. The hallway to the bathrooms and the bathrooms themselves are filthy. I've seen cleaner walls at The Pink. The menus are old and crusty. The floors and chairs uneven. Woo Chon hasn't been updated in decades and it shows - from the dirt to the food. Like so many restaurants in Buffalo Woo Chon is Buffalo-good, but we all know what that means. A solid Buffalo 3. If it was in NYC or Toronto I'd give it a 1 and never go back. read more

Back in England, I lived in a Korea House. In that if you didn't pursue a financially lucrative Korea, you were kicked out of the house. How do you think I ended up over here? A lot has happened since I wrote this review and one of the big things that went down in my weekly routine in Buffalo is that my favorite Korean place - Seoul Garden - closed down forever. That was so very sad for me. I would go there at least once a week and sometimes twice a week to get my Korean soup - Yuk Gae Jang. Luckily, the slightly more expensive and slightly more upscale - okay a lot more upscale - Woo Chon, has filled in nicely. Granted, you can only get lunch specials here from Tuesday to Friday because they're closed Monday and don't do it on the weekend. But if I make it in here during the lunch hours on those 4 days I have an absolutely spectacular version of YGJ and one of the top 10 in the country that I've had. Possibly top 5 even. I do miss my beloved Seoul Garden but WCKH have made the blow a little softer. SG never told me they were leaving. One day I was in there, a few days later they were closed down. I was very sad and I hope they're okay and I hope they whatever they're doing in their lives, they're having a wonderful time. I had a bad feeling because almost nobody was ever in there. Don't let that happen to this place too. Though the 4 other Korean spots (Chin Hills, Arirang, Koreana and VIP Karaoke) are all good for one thing or another, and all very different, Woo Chon is now the gold standard for WNY, and the only one I go to regularly. They have Korean BBQ here, which the other 3 places don't. Some of the tables are special "Korean BBQ" tables. I've never tried it, I'd love to. I have to figure out if this is a good place for my first Korean BBQ experience or not, first. Woo Chon is fancier and slightly more spacious than the others. Prices are a little higher than the others. But the food is amazing and the service is amazing. And when I came here with Justin recently, my housemate, we ordered the $50 Korean BBQ combo, and let me tell you - these people know how to put on a delicious and spectacular Korean BBQ. I am not usually as impressed by Korean BBQ food, but you should try it here, for sure. If you can afford it. Personally, I prefer my soup. Korean food is soup, as far as I'm concerned - the best soup you'll ever have, anywhere. And for me, it's Yuk Gae Jang all the way, and not many places in the USA make it better than Woo Chon. It's been a while since I came here. I always just go to the korean restaurant on Niagara Falls blvd but decide to go here with my friend who is visiting. It is a nice and cozy place. There's like 4-5 tables that are just for korean bbq because of the grill setup. I just went for the regular food. It is a little pricey at this restaurant but nice to go to once in a while. This is a cool, little tucked away location. I came here for a quick lunch one day as I was headed back to work from another appointment. My goal was to get my food and get back to work in 30 minutes. I failed! The reason(s) that I failed was because the food came out really fast! I ordered a Korean pancake and a bowl of ramen. They were not busy at the time, but daaaaaaang. I was impressed. I figured that since I got the food that fast, I could scarf some f it down before I left. After tasting the food, I had a decision to make; do I go all in and finish it? Do I rush through the delicious flavors and not enjoy them the way the chef had intended while risking being late, or do I compromise the integrity of the delicious flavors by packing up my meal and eating it later. I've never had Korean food, so I tried the Woo Chon Full Set. This meal has a little of everything and was a great introduction to Korean food. The food was amazing. The fish was nice and crispy and the bulgogi made me want to regret my decision to share with my husband . The food is served family style with authentic Korean sides. It is really interesting trying the different combinations with rice, food or even then lettuce. If this is your first Korean food experience I highly recommend trying the bulgogi. If I can give negative star I would, I don't think this Korean restaurant is run by Koreans. All the veges were rotten- I don't know how they can serve side dishes or main dish in that state of rotten food. They make the food so salty so than the customers can't realize it's spoiled. I feel the need to update my review since I literally come here 2-3 times a week, and people need to know that this place has stayed consistently delicious and I hope the owners never ever retire! Since my last review from 5 years ago, I have tried their BBQ many, many, and I do mean, MANY times. You have to order a minimum 2 orders of BBQ dishes to be able to grill at the table, or else they grill the food in the kitchen for you if it's just a single order. There are a lot more sides (banchan) when you order the BBQ, including the usual fish cake, bean sprouts, broccoli, and kimchi that you get with lunch, but they also give you additional ones like mashed potato salad, pickled cucumbers and radishes, and green leaf salad in their special yummy dressing etc. You also get pork bone soup, rice, and baskets of plain lettuce in case you want to make a lettuce wrap with the barbecued meats. I highly recommend wrapping a piece of meat, some kimchi, a couples slices of fresh garlic, and a dab of the soybean chili paste - it's amazing. We usually just order galbi (beef short ribs) cause my hubby is a lover of the cow, but beginners should perhaps try the combination with the bulgogi (marinated thinly sliced sirloin/rib eye), chicken, pork, and shrimp. I remember the pork being extra spicy so you'll have to watch out for that. Other dishes we like to order include the beef dumplings, seafood pancake, jap chae (clear noodles with meat and veggies), bibimbap (meat, veggies, and an egg in hot stone pot with korean hot sauce), and of course, my absolute favorite - kimchi jigae (tofu, pork, rice cakes, clear noodles, and kimchi in a spicy broth). Everything is always finger licking good and all the friends and family we have taken to the restaurant all rave about it. There are so many other things on the menu that I want to try, hopefully soon! They do get very busy at times so I would recommend making a reservation in advance, especially if you want a BBQ table because they have a limited number of them. read more
