After a recent trip to Texas, Texas/Asian fusion is one of my favorite cuisines and I was impressed to find this spot in Telluride. My husband and I shared: - Grilled Brisket Nigiri - Buttermilk Chicken Rice Bowl - Pork on Pork Ramen - Raw Berry Bar All of the savory items were fantastic. The nigiri and rice bowl were my favorites. The chicken was so crispy and I loved the sauce. The ramen was also very good. I loved the BBQ twist on it. I personally didn't love the raw berry bar. I was hoping for more passion fruit flavor, but it wasn't as flavorful as passion fruit typically is. My only complaint is that the service was very bad. We were the only ones there and the waiter was ignoring us watching TV. If I'm in Telluride for dinner again, I would absolutely come back here. read more

Such a cute Asian restaurant right on the main street. We walked here from our Airbnb and wanted to sit upstairs but was full so we opted for the downstairs bar which has the restaurant attached to it. We sat at the bar and each had a drink, which were delicious but a little bit more on the expensive side. We had brussels sprout appetizer with a balsamic glaze and they were just what we needed. I wanted to try the Ramen, but, the price was way higher than I would normally pay for a bowl of soup. The saffron lobster miso broth was nice. The flavors and textures of the add-ins seemed a little disparate at first, but once everything soaked in the broth for a bit it seemed more cohesive. Went there during the last day of the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival during happy hour for an early dinner. The dining area downstairs and the bar have a casual, character filled vibe. Service was excellent - our server had lots of good recommendations and was wonderfully attentive. We had a variety of cocktails that were quite good (i had the Lemony Snicket). For appetizers we shared two of the Banh Mi sandwiches, the Brussels sprouts (extra crispy and delicious) and the buffalo cauliflower. The sides with the Banh Mi were good too - wasabi salad and the waffle fries. For entrees we had the pork on pork ramen (split between two people which was perfect given the apps and drinks we had). Noodles were good and the flavors were delicious with the one downside of it being super salty. (Too salty to enjoy/drink the broth). I asked for extra wood ear mushrooms which they accommodated and that added a lot of character to the dish, too. Friends of ours had the buttermilk chicken fried rice and were happy with it. Probably the most disappointing meal in Telluride. I got the chicken rice bowl with the honey mustard. To begin, the chicken is pretty much 5 small pieces of fried breaded chicken- basically boneless chicken wings. A pile of carrots and some snips of Brussels sprouts leaves, a scoop of rice and a side of sauce. Really not much of a meal at all for the price. It didn't look like it was a well prepared meal, just a mess of pre packed stuff thrown in a bowl. The service is pretty good. Atmosphere is cool. I sat on the couch along with someone else's meal within the cushions. A very expensive dining experience that wasn't worth it. I did forget to mention we had a party of 6. Five of us almost finished our meals before the final meal arrived. Not acceptable. Just a simple I'm sorry that took so long.... Heading down the stairs to Wood Ear, I was a little anxious about what we'd find - turns out to be a really charming space for comfortable eats and drinks. Not only that, we were fortunate to have terrific service that was detailed, professional and genuinely friendly: what a great representation of what Telluride has to offer. And so's the kitchen: the food is really delicious and the vaguely Texas/Asian fusion thing really works. I found the prices to be reasonable and I went away staggeringly full - not always the case in the foodie restaurants I sometimes visit. Book reservations for dinner - Wood Ear gets packed (for good reason). I can't wait to return, myself. One note: if you're concerned about eruction (medical terminology) or "repeating" (polite social term), you might want to avoid the Brussel's sprouts chips. Mercy! They're delicious, but - well, even simethicone couldn't keep them from asserting themselves throughout the evening. Not usually an issue for me, but - yikes. Came here during a trip to Telluride. The layout of this place is neat, with an upstairs bar and downstairs restaurant. They are also connected to the chocolate shop next door. I ordered the pink dirty martini, and it was incredibly salty. The most salty martini I have ever had. I asked the server how many oz of brine was in this, and she merely replied that it's a dirty martini.... I asked if the bartender could maybe add something so I could drink it, and that helped a bit. I ordered the del mare ramen bowl, which had a lobster based soup and shrimp. It was very large and very tasty. I had enough leftovers for the following day, and it kept well. My other gripe is that they don't have bags, so I was only given a paper cylinder for the soup but had to hold it all the way back to the hotel. read more

When we are in Telluride, this is our #1 go to place. Wood Ear Whiskey Lounge and Noodle Bar has a cool asian dining vibe with music and the best asian food in town. One decends into a beautiful bar and zen like atmosphere. The menu works for carnivores, vegans and mixed drink connoisseurs. We ordered the flash fried brussel sprout leaves, buffalo cauliflower, avocado nigiri, cashew cabbage with chicken, wasabi caesar salad and buttermilk fried chicken rice bowl. It was a lot of food but missing out on a dining gem is a character flaw. The flash fried brussel sprout leaves are a favorite and the only time I eat B Sprouts 5/5. The Buffalo cauliflower is spicy and tasty. If you are adventurous, it is a must try 5/5. The avocado nigiri was interesting but not a favorite. Wasabi ceasar salad had a delious taste with just a hint of heat 4/5. The cashew cabbage salad with chicken had crunch, pickeld ginger, mint, cashews, not dripping in dressing and moist chicken 4/5. The buttermilk fried chicken rice bowl was delicious. The pickled veggies, fresh snap peas, thai herbs, sweet peppers and chashi BBQ sauce is memorable. It is a crisp salad, great taste and just enough sauce to taste the jasmine rice 5/5. Hands down, this is the best restaurant in Telluride. Flavor packed and unique combinations will always keep us returning. One must not forget about the elaborate drink menu. W-O-W! One of the best meals and service I have had in a LONG time. Loved Wood Ear, from start to finish. Everything was delicious and on point. This is a location where you can tell that the staff and ownership really does care about what they're doing, it clearly shows. We were promptly seated on the patio as requested, our server who I think was named Eric, was super nice and made recommendations on drinks and starters for us. We chose to go with their carbonated (made in-house) green tea and the fried cauliflower. Loved both. This was the best fried cauliflower of my life. Believe we were told is was potato flower so it was a light breading and the sauce was more oil-based and absolutely wonderful. We ate and ate and ate it! Next, we couldn't decide between a few of the rice bowls but were advised (as southerners) that we would like the buttermilk fried chicken bowl with rice, picked veggies, and a really seriously delicious house-made honey mustard sauce that I want to put on everything I eat from now on. We also finished with a slice of key lime with a blueberry or berry glaze on it which provided a bit of a contrast with the tart lime. Sooo good. We spoke to a few staff members who stopped by to ask how things tasted and really enjoyed everything we ate and saw others eating. I'm sure everything is delicious. The outside seating was nice as the weather was mild and warm in early June, but the inside is also beautifully done with a nice bar and seating area that we saw when we used the restroom. Only came here for the bevvie alternatives to The Ride Lounge. Wood Ear sits directly below The Lounge and is a nice option for pre show food and drinks. The Hummingbird (vodka mixed) is on tap and something about it makes it the perfect summer drink. The peach vodka balanced with lemon and St. Germain had me drink it quicker than a sweet tea. Very refreshing! Service was fabulous too! One note is that any drink purchased at Wood Ear must be consumed at their establishment. We were only able to secure a late reservation but that wasn't too big of a deal. The cocktail list was pretty good and the whiskey selection was comprehensive. Pricing was odd on some of the non allocated stuff and there wasn't a ton of allocated stuff. They did have a lot to choose from and that was nice to see. The table split ordering the Hill Country Ramen and the Ribeye Bulgogi. Both groups thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Very solid 4 stars for their unique twist on ramen. This is not an average ramen spot for which I have had many times. First off, you'll need a reservation as most days are booked 4-5 days in advance. They do not take walk-ins unless there's empty reservation slots. You're socially distanced from other tables. Service was friendly and timely. They have an average sized menu with other options besides ramen. 1. Ginger beer - House made. Light, flavorful. Would be great after a hard day of skiing or on a hot summer day or really any day. 2. Hill Country Ramen - Amazing brisket! Probably the best I've had. Tender, flavorful, smoked. I did not like the pickles that it came with so I took them out. The corn, al dente ramen, and added egg were all great additions. Soup base was flavorful; beef broth. We ordered exactly what we saw in the window and unfortunately the rice in the brisket nigiri had been sitting at least a day or more. The flavor was underwhelming! Wow, my daughter and I loved our food and thought about it for a couple of days. I'm from a foodie town and artistic food is much appreciated. I got the mushroom and miso ramen dish which is not something I'd normally choose. It was excellent. Io got something she'd normally not choose and really enjoyed it. I remember it had shrimp. We tried each other's dish and both agreed that the food was better than what we ate in Sedona. Io is only 13 and normally struggles choosing, but we had been driving all day and this was an easy decision. Covid makes everything not as fun. Ordering was easy, but the wait was not nor was their system that didn't quite work. Plan ahead if you're gonna eat there as tables are limited and reservations seem to fill up quickly.
