Heading from Long Island to Boston, we wanted a spot for a quick bite to eat. Wood n Tap popped up and we decided to give it a try. From what I gather this is a smalll local chain in the Applebees/Chilis style. Only the food and service is much, much better. From the moment we walked in we're seated promptly and the hostess set the tone m, warm and welcoming. We had the artichoke dip appetizer and this was definitely one the best versions. The tortilla chips that came with it were definite fresh and up to the job for this dip. For mains I had the ribs and these were really good. Fall off the bone good. We also had fish and chips and burgers and absolutely no complaints. Burgers were cooked as ordered. The fish and the sweet potato fried and regular fries were al very good. Nothing was greasy at all. The coleslaw was mid. But honestly that's ok. It was definitely fresh like everything else. Our server was exceptionally nice and attentive. She really wanted to make sure we had a positive experience. My son summed it up best. This is a solid place and if we're in the area we'd definitely go back. The staff was very nice. However, the food was some of the most disappointing I've had in a long time. The bison sliders' texture was like they were precooked and then reheated. I've never had bison that tasted like that. For $16 or whatever it was you'd expect it to taste amazing. The spinach artichoke dip had no flavor at all. My water cup was dirty inside, and I scraped stuff off with my straw, so I didn't want to drink anymore water. After dropping my son off at Quinnipiac , we had a nice lunch at Wood n Tap. I tried a local beer - Fat Orange Cat Kittens Summer Ale. Yes, I was drawn to the unique and funny name, but it was delicious and refreshing. I got a blackened chicken sandwich with fries. Others at our table got the chop house steak salad and fish tacos. My husband and I dined at Wood n Tap last night for trivia night. The restaurant/bar is pretty cozy inside but could use more individual seating in the bar area rather than community tables. I got the bison burger and my husband got the Cajun pasta. We were both very very happy with the food. Really tasty and very good portion sizes. The beer menu was also pretty big with lots of seasonal offerings. My husband ordered a beer that unfortunately was the last bit of the tap so did not fill his glass. Our server was super apologetic about this and insisted on making it up and was bringing him multiple tasters. Service was good but they only had one server and no busser. She was running around doing a great job but they need more staff. The trivia was really fun! We will definitely return for more trivia nights. read more

Met some friends here for dinner. Waitress was attentive but got 2 out of the 4 drinks wrong. She apologized and said she'd replace them, but it was ok. We'd rather drink them than throw them out. I had the steak salad. Steak was actually cooked the way I asked, which doesn't happen that often. Although the steak had a great flavor, it wasn't all that tender. The salad was good. The sweet potato tots were very good. My husband had the chili and Caesar Salad. He thought the salad and chili were good. Not exceptional, just good. This place is a step up from TGI Fridays. Everything about this place is just meh and mid. The service was god awful slow but the waitress was friendly and nice. The food was just okay, and left a lot to be desired in the way of flavor. Also the chicken was "woody" like an old hen for the meat... that crunch when you bite into it that you done want. I was trying to organize an informal meetup at the last minute with some challenging logistical needs: multiple children, need for easy parking, and guests arriving at various times or unconfirmed on their party size. One of the parents in the group recommended this place, and I made a reservation on short notice for the biggest size the online reservation size allowed, hoping the different arrival departure times as guests came would keep our number to that size. The restaurant significantly exceeded my expectations. Service was amazing, the team was warm and accommodating despite the disruption our rather large and enthusiastic party caused (more came and stayed longer than expected), and they even kept track of all of our orders and created separate checks without being asked. My arugula salad was fresh and exactly what I expected. All in all 5/5, and thank you to the wait staff and management for taking such good care of us!! W-n-T Hamden is located in the huge Hamden Plaza strip mall, right off the Merritt Parkway.It has two entrances -one leads to a hostess stand and one leads right into a dining room. Of course I used the second choice which momentarily confused me because all I saw was tables of customers. But when I kept walking I saw the hostess stand in a second room and she guided me to a table in the center dining room. Our server , Maria, was fantastic. What a great personality and about as chill and helpful as can be.She gave mt brother and I plenty of time to chit chat before we ordered and I loved the way she was cool with us taking our time. Eventually I ordered a cup of chili ($6.49) and a Thai Salad ($11.99). My brother went with the Penne a la Vodka ($15.49). I love chili and I very much liked the WnT Hamden version. Plenty of meat with beans, a very zippy sauce, served with a sprinkle of shredded cheese, chopped onions, and three tortilla chips. The Thai Salad was huge. The menu listing described it as "vermicelli over a bed of greens tossed with Rice Wine Vinaigrette with chopped peanuts, sesame seeds and orange slices". I could have added chicken to it, but was glad I didn't because the dish was huge. And it was very good, especially that rice wine dressing. I took half of my lunch home. My brother's lunch was described on the menu as "Penne pasta and local peas in a tomato vodka sauce, topped with Parmesan" I saw him picking at it and I asked him if he liked it. He didn't. I tried a few bites and thought it was quite salty and the cheese flavor was too strong. Our lunch totaled $36.47 after tax and before tip. Cold food, bad service, ignored food sensitivity. i visited in the mid-afternoon and things seemed slow. the waitress visited quickly, but then disappeared. It took a long time to get us our drinks. It took over an hour to get our food. I am gluten intolerant and when I asked the runner who brought the food if the bread was gluten free (as ordered) he said definitely not. Wood-n-Tap is a local chain of casual American pubs that was founded in 2002. The chain was founded by business partners Phil Barnett and Mike Hamlin. Barnett attended CCSU and spent his college days working at Joe's Bar and Grill, and rented an apartment from Hamlin. Together this duo founded the original Wood-N-Tap in Hartford. The menu would feature an eclectic mix of classic American pub fare as well as some modern creations. Wood-n-Tap also boasts an impressive list of wine, craft beer, and craft cocktails. The original Hartford location's success would spark a franchise with additional locations built in Farmington, Southington, Rocky Hill, Newington, Vernon, Wallingford, Hamden, Enfield, and West Springfield (MA). I recently attended an exclusive tasting event at Wood-n-Tap's Hamden location (which opened in 2016). The event was attended by a number of local foodie influencers who were invited to sample various plates and cocktails that were being added to the menu for the Spring; the menu changes seasonally. Some of the cocktails that were displayed included the "Spring Flight", the "Clem-N-Thyme Sangria", the "Key Lime Martini", the "Lavender Haze", and the "Bee's Knee Spritz". My personal favorite was the "Espresso Old Fashioned" (Revolution Rye and Grand Brulot barrel-aged for complexity). I can't say no to a good Old Fashioned, and I loved the coffee notes! Some of the Spring Menu plates that we were treated to included "Sausage-n-Kale Soup", "Reuben Egg Rolls", "Asparagus Caprese", the "Veggie Chickpea Burger", "Scallops and Sweet Pea Risotto" and "Carrot Cake". My favorite dish was the "Lemon Chicken Pasta" (chicken in a light lemon and wine sauce tossed with linguine, spinach, snow peas, red & yellow peppers). I have mixed feelings after my visit to this location today. My wife and I arrived right before the lunch rush, so I figured we would get in and out fairly quickly. We both got a soup and a main dish. I had the chicken sandwich with tater tots 99cent upcharge) and she got a steak chop salad. Let me start off by saying everything tasted ok. We ordered our soup as appetizers. The soup came out fairly quickly. The loaded potatoe soup was good and creamy. The french onion soup wasn't anything special. It tasted like hot water with a little beef broth. Not even two spoonfuls into our soup, our food comes out and I felt rushed at that point. The size of the chicken breast for the sandwich was a nice size and tasted ok, but nothing special. It came with avocado on it but had the smallest sliver of it. And for the tater tots, there was barely any. I felt as if I was being nickel and dimed at this point. As for the salad, again nothing special. Although when I order a steak salad and am charged over $20, I really hope I get a decent sized steak. On my wife's salad, there was only 3 pieces golf ball sized pieces of steak. The service wasn't the greatest either. While the waitress was kind of nice l, we only saw her twice rue whole time, once to take our order, and once to bring the check. There were many times when we needed a drink refill or more napkins, and I had to go searching for someone to get it. The hostess at the front was more helpful and it wasn't even her job. As we finished the food, the big lunch rush came in. We waited over 15 minutes to get the check. Once we got it, it was another 10 minutes before she came and got it, and another 2o minutes before I got my credit card back. At this point I felt like they forgot about us. Wood n Tap is one of my favorite places. I have been to various locations around the State. Pictured are one of my top choices - the nachos - which were half devoured by the time I remembered to take a photo. I find the food at this particular location to be inconsistent. Its always edible, but sometimes the food is simply better than others. However, this location has a large outdoor patio with tables, couches, and various other seating. It's a great place for summer happy hour, which redeems this location for me. The staff is generally friendly. I do find this location to be busy, so sometimes the service is on the slower side. My suggestion if you're in a hurry would be to go on off peak times. Otherwise, I grab a cocktail and just take in the vibes. I'm typically happy with a festive drink and some sun read more

This place Wood n Tap as a very cool ambience. Has several dining rooms you can choose from and all are cozy. They have Burgers, Salads, quesadillas to name a few. I had the chicken quesadilla and in came out hearty but I believe they choose bacon bits opposed to real bacon and that didn't do it for me. Next time I will have them hold them out. Me and my boyfriend just ordered takeout about an hour ago. I had clam chowder, he had ribs, my boyfriend was eating and immediately went to the bathroom and got sick. We called the restaurant and told them, what had happened. The manager says it takes up to 3 days to detect food poisoning, so we hung up. We consulted a nurse and he said this is not true. The restaurant didn't want to reimburse us. It was probably a bad cut of meat or bad milk in the potato's, yet they didn't give us the time of day. Highly disappointed in this place read more

Wood-n-Tap is a good bar and restaurant with plenty of seating. In the summer it has small outdoor area surrounded by a fence with umbrellas that is nice. The waitstaff are attentive and the food is good. If you are looking for a "nicer" place than a bigger chain restaurant, this is it. The bar is large for after work events. Pricing is reasonable and hey are open later and more consistently than other restaurants in the area. read more

This is one of my boyfriends favorite spots. Unfortunately the past 2 times i have been here, it's been pretty rough. I was a server so I understand having off nights but this was just kinda crappy. Our server kept forgetting orders and drinks, they also weren't attentive at all. As a young couple people tend to get over looked as customers but we felt pretty much neglected by our server. We waited 20 minutes for our server to forget to refill our water once and didn't end up refilling it before we paid and left. I watched as every table of theirs got relatively the same service we did. On valentiens day at 8pm we sat for an hour and a half due to the lack of urgency.
