Wow, has this place fallen. I was never a big fan, but I was in the mood for a beer and a burger. We ordered Spinach Dip for an appetizer, and my wife ordered the French Onion Soup. Both came fairly quickly, and were quite good. However, that was all we got. I guess the empty table with some half eaten appetizers and a full plate of Nachos should have tipped me off to something being amiss in the kitchen. My mouth is drooling right now as I write this, thinking about my meal....the food was so good!! Came here on Friday, early afternoon with my cousin and my daughter. She was telling me how this restaurant recently became a chain, but being from Massachusetts I'd never heard of it. Usually I'm a bit skeptical about trying new chains as they generally taste the same -- at least to me. The outside of the restaurant is cute. There's a patio but we did not sit outside, I wish I'd peeked at it though. The hostess counter was decorated cutely for Autumn/Halloween and it was festive to see upon entering. Our server, who's name I do not recall, was a taller guy and extremely nice. We got to talking a bit because my daughter kept waving at him and he engaged her which is nice, not all servers will do that. I ordered the Marina's Sandwich and a Blood Orange Margarita for lunch. The sandwich was your choice of grilled or blackened salmon, I went with blackened and ordered sweet potato fries as my side. 10/10 would absolutely order it again, although I would love to try other things on the menu! read more

So glad this place opened up! Super fun ambiance and a very hip young vibe. They have an awesome beer selection (according to my friend) and some good cider options. They even had pear cider which is one of my favorites and is very hard to find at restaurants! Also they had a "hard Palmer" that was unbeatable. I've been dreaming of it since I drank it. We started with the crab dip which was hot and delicious, definitely a lot of oil but we weren't coming here to eat healthy. I got the buffalo chicken burger and my friend got the marina sand which. Both were delicious, the aoli that came on the side of mine was so yummy, and their French fries and sweet potato fries were also very yummy. We got the nut brownie for desert which was topped off with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream, very yummy. Our waitress was great, she was super accommodating and knew the menu well, and checked on us just the right amount of times. I can't wait to go back and try more food!!! read more

Had a few beers with a customer and then decided to grab dinner. They offer the impossible burger and it was my first chance to try it. I ordered it on their house salad and it was certainly better than the Beyond Meat offering. My customer actually had it as a burger and really couldn't tell the difference. Great food, great atmosphere, great experience! I've been to Wood -n-Tap many times for a variety of occasions. Each time their food is delightful and their staff is kind. Most recently I went there to grab drinks with a couple of friends and we sat in the bar area. The space itself is cool and clean and perfect for a nice hangout. They have a great variety of beer and even better food. I got their Sweet Potato fries and I think they are the best Sweet Potato fries I've ever gotten at a restaurant. I've been to two other Wood-n-Taps in CT and have generally been underwhelmed by them. They do tend to have nice bars, but the rest just seems like a 'new' version of Chili's or Applebees. Anyway my friend convinced us to join him at this new one in Hamden in the dreams of making it our future local hangout. We'll see.. We sat at the bar. The restaurant isn't huge but the layout is good and the bar area was very sleek and clean. The interior design is dark with high ceilings and edison-type bulbs, giving it kind of a cool vibe. They had several beers on tap, including interesting beers (not just your bud light/coors selection). I didn't order any food, but my fiance got the bison sliders and said they were surprisingly good. My friend had a portobella burger and said he also enjoyed his. The bar stools weren't super comfy BUT they were height adjustable (spin them around and then raise or lower). I'm nearly positive we saw those on sale at walmart the next day, but that's neither here nor there. Overall, I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd go for dinner because it's still a chain which isn't our thing, but the bar area was clean and snazzy so I might be convinced to go back again. read more

I admit, I'm a fan of Wood n Tap, and this one is beautiful! I was blown away at how beautiful the bar and patio sections are here. I almost don't want to call it a patio, because that doesn't do it justice. There are tables out there, high tops, couch like seating that look loungey. I was very impressed. It does seem to be like a maze inside but we sat at the beautiful bar and took a walk outside to check it out. There was a big open space between the bar and patio (like an open garage door feel) that was incredible! I presume that when it's really hot or cold, this can't be left open, but I was glad to be there on a night that was perfect to let the fresh air in. The drinks and food were as expected, like my regular WNT in Rocky Hill, so I can't say a single bad thing about this experience. I know a new location is opening in Newington this fall, and I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY hoping the new location closer to me is like this one! It would be my new spot! I'll definitely go back to this one when I'm in the area. Oh! Can't forget that happy hour starts again at 9:30 and the bartender told us it was fine if we ordered about 9:20, he'd wait to ring them in til 9:30 so we could get our HH prices! Every beer served in a cold glass and every food I have tried is better than the last. I love mexican food being originally from CA and their tacos are to die for. First off, it's BAR food. And keeping that in mind, it's pretty damn good bar food. However, the secret we've learned: ALWAYS sit on the bar side. I swear I would never go back if I had to eat on the "restaurant" side. Can't explain why, we just love the bar side of this place. The Fried Mozzarella is excellent, as are the salads, the wraps, and the beer selection. I'm vegetarian, but people I work with swear by the wings, and even I have to admit they looks tasty as hell. The service is always spot on. And for a bar, it's not overly loud, you can still hear conversations. Personally I love it at 2PM on a weekday afternoon, you have the whole place to yourself. And when you're looking for food at 10PM on a weekend night...it's far and away the best option. We go back often. Like I said: Bar food, but GOOD bar food. read more

I'm new to the area and sadly most of the food around here is fast food crap. The wood and tap bar is one of the few real restaurants around here, so I check them out a few times. The food is pretty good. I am incredibly picky because I know what good food is, and one of my biggest pet peeve's in life is paying for food I don't like. But I liked everything I ordered here and it was ready pretty quickly. I had this salad with a apricot dressing and blackened shrimp which was done pretty well, the big soft pretzel, buffalo wings, and a few other things I've tried on the menu so far, that I he tuna, ingredients all taste fresh and properly made. I haven't eaten in but it looks like they have a decent drink menu And a nice atmosphere to get dinner. This will be one of my go to places around here, hopefully it stays this way! read more

I really should come here more often. Before I walked in, a kind hostess opened the door for me. That has never happened, so that was a great sign. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were two friendly ladies. I ordered the arugula salad with fried goat cheese, and I added steak. It is one of the best salads I have ever had in my life. I'm from L.A so my salad and produce expectations are very high. :) Everything was fresh, and the steak perfectly cooked as I requested. I paired my food with the blueberry lemonade, made with their homemade lemon aid and fresh blueberries! And it was absolutely refreshing and delicious. As I stated, my California antioxidant game is on point, so I am grateful for the fresh and delicious food and drink I ordered this Sunday afternoon.
