We hired the Woodbelly team to cater our wedding at the iconic Sleepy Hollow Farm in Woodstock, VT. As soon as my fiance and I walked into the Woodbelly shop for our tasting in Montpelier, we almost immediately knew we would want to work with them this summer. BLM artwork litters the walls, there's a sign that says "trans people eat free" under the register and Hailey greets you with the warmest smile from behind the counter! Then...we tried the food. Nothing could have prepared us for how absolutely delicious everything was! And its not just their pizza thats mind-blowing, so are their vegetarian and chicken dishes. Hailey's service was wonderful, she (and her sweet daugther!) even did a site visit before the wedding to give us advice on where her team should set up, and what makes the most sense for rental planning. She was extremely accommodating to our vegan diet, as well and provided gluten-free alternatives for our guests. My parents mentioned "faine" aka "farinata," because we eat that with our pizza in our home-country of Argentina, and Hailey offered to learn the recipe and make it for us at the wedding. Thats how thoughtful she is! We ordered: - grazing table full of local cheese and meats - maple seared scallops - fish cakes -farinata -green salad with seasonal veg -maple braised chicken thighs and drumsticks -quinoa & bean stuffed squash -pizza buffet with vegan cheese and GF crust options -peach & blueberry cobbler At the wedding, no one could stop talking about how incredible the food was, and how absolutely lovely Hailey and her staff are. Finally! The wife and I have made it in here twice...and it has become our favorite thin crust pizza over all the local pizza places including Village stores thus far ~15. Sauce, Toppings, crust...really good, crisp, flavorful and consistent balance. It's local farm to table fare supporting the local economy as well. Good selection of beer although they favor IPAs on their menu. A little priced when you go large...but their overhead's gone up considerably in recent years and for the occasional treat ...a great experience. Now if they could only try deepdish! read more

The worst! Don't waste your time or money! The service was an atrocity. The prices were even worse! Stay away!

After placing my order for 2 pizzas, we order a couple beers and waited for our pizza. The girl taking our order had no idea what she was doing, asking for employee help with every portion of the order. I worried about this and was hoping the order would come through ok. Unfortunately, that won't be the case. Nothing came for at least 30 minutes, even though there was only 1 other couple waiting and then getting their pizza. I went up to the counter, specifically to the guy making pizza, and asked where our 2 pizzas were, and he said "there aren't any other orders, what was your order?". Oh no. He tried to make our two pizzas fast ("no problem, I can make them in 3 minutes") but it still took 15-20 mins to get them to the table. After waiting 1 hour+ for our pizza, it was now closing time but we chose to stay and eat the pizza. The let down was the pizza wasn't very good, with dough that had a very bland, odd taste and gray-ish look inside. Unfortunately, this was a complete fail. GREAT pizza!! Their gluten free crust is as delicious & chewy as the full gluten dough! It's all sourdough, which makes this gluten dough easier to digest than other places'. After trying multiple pizzas over multiple visits, my faves are: Half cheese, half sausage - regular crust: I pre order on their website & it's ready in 15 mins. Ordering it parbaked gives me a softer-chewy crust that I can also make as crisp as I want in a 450-degree oven. Fougasse: if I had to choose between this beauty & a pizza, it would be a tough decision. Chewy is the texture of my dreams, & this is exactly that. Comes with a choice of dipping sauces - so far, their garlicky marinara is my fave. They have slices available here, as well as a nice selection of kombuchas. Highly recommend! read more

I was excited to try this place as they seem to use a lot of locally sourced ingredients. Unfortunately the experience was really disappointing. The staff all look like they're in high school and didn't seem very enthused to be there. I ordered a calzone and was told (at 5:45pm - an early dinner by most standards) that they were out of dough for the calzone. I asked if they used the same dough for the calzone as they do for the pizza and they said yes but the pizza dough is portioned out differently and they didn't have any calzone dough portions left. First of all they shouldn't be running out of a key ingredient so early in the evening and second they should have made an accommodation and used some of the pizza dough. Otherwise take it off the menu if you can't serve it. So my friend and I ordered a "chef's choice" veggie pizza. It tasted horrible and the cheese didn't taste right. I asked what cheese they used and he said they used the vegan cheese. It didn't say that they used vegan cheese for the veggie pizza on the menu and we certainly didn't ask for it At that point I had lost my appetite and decided to get dinner elsewhere. My friend was starving so he held his nose and ate the pizza. Fortunately they only made him pay for half the pizza. It doesn't matter what kind of ingredients you use or where you get it from, if your service is that bad it negates everything else. Needless to say I won't be back read more

This place is very very hit or miss. I've had a good pie and an absolutely horrible pie i threw most of it away. I think its a combination of the sauce, cheese and dough temp. The sauce must have tomato paste or be cooked down, it can turn to a pasty dry layer. Maybe look to NY or New haven where just ground San Marzano tomatoes are used. Very wet so pie stays moist in hot ovens. The cheese is likely good cheese but its a very low oil cheese. Given this the pie is very easy to dry out and makes an inedible brown dry overcooked cheese layer and if you get that with the paste.. uggg. High oil cheese separates in heat and makes for an amazing tasting pie. The crust though has amazing flavor.. such a shame. Should be cooked right on the stone fast and bubbly and then out of the oven. Again look to New Haven places that cook at over 1k deg. on base of oven and documented as some of the best pies in the world by many sources. Temp of dough matters.. some of the pies I've had were bubbly and puffy.. nice warm dough.. others like crackers.. cold dough? is my guess since the flavor is still good. I hope you can change and tweak over time. Montpelier could use a great pizza place. read more

Yummy pizza! Tried it today as part of the food tasting festival and will definitely come back next time we're in town. There were many vegetarian options. We tried the corn and broccoli rabe which was delicious but there were several others to choose from. There were also meat options. read more

We had to take out pizzas, won the top supreme one and the other one, the mushroom ricotta one. They are the best pizzas I can remember having. For a Vermont thin crust pizza, I thought it was better than flatbread, I thought it was better than, a positive pie, I thought it was better than the bespoke pizza we like to have when we go to the Kedron Valley Inn in South Woodstock. There was enough topping to really give some mouth peel and fullness, but the crust was still that really nice woodfired crust and light. I totally recommend the place. read more

Pizza is underwhelming and could have been baked longer. House salad was uninspired with greens and carrots but without tomatoes or other complementary ingredients. Came here with a few quick minutes for lunch. Good slice selections. We had basic pepperoni and a more interesting choice of pesto, goat cheese, sweet potato and caramelized onions. Both were good. Pizza on paper plates, water from the tap in mason jars. Good, satisfying. read more

Great pizza and bartending services. The guests at my wedding raved about the Friday night pizza and the bar service on Friday and Saturday. Multiple guests talked about "overserving" themselves on pizza because it was so delicious! The vegan pizza (which I ate) was amazing. Thank you for making vegan pesto!!!! Cocktails were excellent, and nonalcoholic drinks were tasty and ample. Willow and Jonah were excellent bartenders in every way. The tasting we went to was exceptional and everyone we interacted with was professional, kind, and accommodating. We had Woodbelly cater our wedding, and they were fantastic. Wedding food is usually both expensive and mediocre, but Woodbelly was reasonably priced and the best food I've had at a wedding. They brought a pizza oven to the venue and made dinner on site. Our guests raved about it after, even those who are used to more formal meals at weddings. They have lots of options for appetizers and the bar, too. They were also flexible as our plans changed. Overall, a joy to work with! read more

I read about the storefront in Montpelier in Seven Days and was intrigued. I ordered an 18 in, sourdough with two toppings. Total price for pickup was a whopping $35! I wanted it par baked and for some reason I was scheduled a pick up time about 90 minutes from my order. I arrived at pickup time only to be told my order was in the process of being put together and it would be five minutes. There were no other cars in the p lot- only hree employees in the restaurant and no one else. One of the employees could be seen sitting down before I entered. I returned to my car to wait for my pizza. It came out right at 5 minutes...then I was handed a free oatmeal cookie because there was a whole in the crust????? Sure enough, there was a three inch round hole. I was completely disappointed with the service, the pizza and the price. You have to pay extra for toppings. In this case mushrooms were $2 and olives were $2. There were no more than 10 of each on this massive 18in crust. Sauce was good, dough was tasty but there was very little cheese. I expected so much more for $35. I never quit on a place after one visit so I will be back to see if the 12in cooked in house will turn out better. read more

The pizza is very good! The service not so much. Also the seating and where you eat is not nice at all. I burned my finger because the put coal from a fire to cook the pizza in a trash can that's right next to the tables! Also the place is only open on Fridays. In the winter it's not open which stinks and there in no indoor seating. The seating is right near the train tracks which I find very dangerous for young children if a train comes by.
