I already knew I loved Woodchuck ciders and it was a great experience to taste the other brand they own. Bartender was charming and friendly! Our only issue was that we couldn't buy the new-to-us flavor where we live, so we tried to purchase a pack of it there. Unfortunately, Sunday at 3pm seems to be a peak time and you can't check out everything at the bar. Waited at the merch stand for 15 mins and the poor guy couldn't catch a break. We had to leave. We probably won't be coming back because we ultimately got to try new things so we'll just settle for buying our ciders elsewhere. read more

My mom, sister, and myself, stop by the woodchuck heard cidery while we were in Vermont, and we were not disappointed. First we went up to the second level where you have a mini factory tour that self guided. It was honestly very interesting to learn about the history of woodchuck cider. Afterwards we went down to the tasting room where we had several hard ciders on tap. And the woman who is serving us was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and gave us tastings of delicious siders. As a Vermonter, Woodchuck is the first cider I started drinking (and my favorite). I now live in the Chattanooga, TN area and can only get limited flavors. On a recent trip to Vermont my goal was to go to the cidery and do some taste testing and buy some cider. My friend and I split 3 flights and I bought 3 different ciders. I also learned that Woodchuck is the only importer of Magner's cider, my other favorite. And, psst, they bottle all of Aldi's cider too! (Though they aren't supposed to tell you that, the address on the label says so.) The production line wasn't running, unfortunately, but it was cool to hear how much their production has increased. Now all we need down here is a distributor who'll bring us better selections! read more

Wow Woodchuck greatly exceeded my expectations. I assumed they only offered the two standard flavors you are likely to see at a retail store. Turns out this is a great spot to drop in and try a wide variety of ciders. A while ago they featured my favorite cider, Campfire Pancakes. Seriously, it invoked the campfire taste because it was made with maple syrup. How Vermont of them! Among the usually fruity suspects you can also find different takes like spicy cider. We loved Woodchuck! We stopped on our drive up to Burlington, and it was an excellent detour. We ended up doing four flights so we could taste almost all of the ciders. They also have their canned vodka drinks on tap, but we didn't get to those. The ciders are awesome, as expected. Super fresh and crisp. The only sad part was that not all were available for take-home purchase (although they do sell growlers!). Service and ambiance were both awesome. Our bartenders chatted with us periodically, as the place was understandably pretty empty (it was a Wednesday early afternoon). They also had a tv at the bar showing the Olympics, so I imagine this would be a good bar to visit and watch The Game. 10/10 for this spot. read more

Totally cool environs. Loved the old truck out front, the barn feel, the viewing room upstairs to see all the bottling/canning going on. Tasting room is large enough to feel comfortable and clean as well. They also have free WiFi and a nice bar at which to sit. Of course, they have plenty of merchandise to sell. Pints and flights are available and I can honestly say that every single cider I tried, I enjoyed. we were on vacation from Kansas, staying in Concord, NH. My wife found Woodchuck Cidery on-line and I was excited to visit as I really enjoy Woodchuck. Made the 2-1/2 hour from Concord to Middlebury only to find they were closed. My wife checked the website twice before we left, no mention of them closing for the day. I was excited to sample at the cidery because I'm (was) a big fan of Woodchuck. They were closed because the City was installing a fire hydrant in front of the facility, so the water was turned off to the cidery. You can't tell me they didn't know they were going to be closed, they should have updated their website to alert people. Very disappointing. read more

WHC is a worth a stop. It's located on Exchange street close to route7 near several other adult liquid producers. Ambiance - spacious, lodge and laid back. A small woodchuck carving will greet you as you enter the tasting room. Main floor is a WHC themed stands, masquerade and other selfie photo opps at your leisure anchored by a big U shape tasting bar - about a dozen stools. Additional seating on a big leather couch by a window. Upstairs is a short self guided tour and over look to the manufacturing floor. This is an operating cidery with a tasting room on the side. Ciders- WHC buys fruits from certain farms and produce your bevies here. They have ~ dozen distinct kinds. 4 2 oz flight of your choice is $3. I actually tasted 5 and were surprised I liked a few and all were quite smooth. I leaned towards dry rather than sweet and thought any would be great with salads, cheeses, lighter meats, pasta and by themselves. Service - 2 bartenders were on duty and one was friendly but the other wasn't doing WHC brand any good. He didn't explain any of the ciders just pushed the menu. When I asked questions about diff ciders, he didn't answer just marked the tasting menu and shoved the flight to me. Mind you I hadn't agreed to taste those yet. Did anyone tell him that this is a tasting room?? Lost opp to educate people who walked into your place. Maybe he could learn from the tall Asian bartender. Avoid the short hippy bartender - we were there for about 15 minutes and rushed to get the heck away from him. Price - $3 for a flight of 4 - 2 ounces wasn't expensive. I'm used to wine tasting that's free but maybe this is just geared towards fast drink tourism. Parking - free private lots and was ample. Parking is at the either end of the building and you have to walk to the entrance in the middle. Stopped at Woodchuck Hard Cidery on Friday afternoon. A place that is not afraid to showcase their products, but what they are missing is a more comfortable and enticing outdoor space. Quality: Woodchuck Hard Cidery is part of a collection of different cider companies owned by C&C Group. A bunch of the other companies are featured on the menu at Woodchuck Hard Cidery, but it is Woodchuck products produced in this area. We really made our way down the samples list, trying all of the Woodchuck options except Woodchuck Mimosa, as well as Wyder's Prickly Pineapple, Wyder's Reposado, and Magners Irish Cider Original. The highlights for me were Woodchuck Blueberry and Woodchuck 802 Collection Lil' Dry. The only one I would avoid is Woodchuck Pumpkin, even the menu notes it is a whole lot of pumpkin. Quantity: Sample Flights came with four 2oz Pours, helpful if you are tasting on your own. Value: $3 for a Sample Flight. $5-$7 for a Draft Pour. Ambiance: Woodchuck Hard Cidery is a massive production facility, offices, and taproom, located in Middlebury, Vermont. The taproom is quite large, highlighted by a big U-shaped bar. They have a small store near the front, as well as couches in a lounge area inside. Outside, they have turned a parking lot area into additional seating. I felt like more could have been done to make this area more desirable, as it was just a few picnic tables on blacktop. Inside they had a few snacks available, so the addition of a food truck outside was very necessary. Crowd: A small crowd on Friday afternoon. Most folks gravitated around the inside bar, but it was a nice day so outside also drew some customers. Dogs are allowed both inside and out. Service: The bartender had pouring flights down to a science. With a clear goal to have individuals try their products, they encourage flights and make sure they come out quick. Great self-guided tour, cool warehouse space, friendly staff and delicious cider! Woodchuck is a brand most people know when they think about hard ciders. Knowing it was bottled and made in Vermont, my husband and I were excited to see their space and learn about how they make cider. The cidery is far away from most places - in Middlebury, which is south of Burlington and kind of in the middle of no where. It's a bit of a hike but if you're in the state an can swing it, make a point to visit the cidery! The tour is self-guided in a huge warehouse space and shares facts about how the place started, who owns it, how they make cider and where it's distributed. After finishing the tour, we headed downstairs to try some cider! Visiting the Cidery earns you four free samples of cider which you choose from a list of many! The ones we tried: * Raspberry - way too sweet and not something I'd drink again I don't think * Hot Cha Cha Cha - a touch drier and infused with hot chilies - had a great kick! * Campfire Pancakes - one of our favorites, not distributed yet in Michigan so great to try here * Fall Harvest - tasted just like apple pie * Barrel Select - stored in aged bourbon barrels. Not too sweet, has a touch of bourbon and so drinkable. Another favorite of ours and also not distributed in Michigan yet. * Local Nectar - made with local Vermont apples, this was the big winner for us. Incredibly drinkable, not too sweet, had a bite/kick to it which was crisp and so delicious. The cool thing we learned about this cider is that it's also sold in Michigan, but here in Michigan it's made with Michigan apples. So called the same name, but made with local apples depending which state you're in! We had a great time at this cidery and the bartender was friendly, informative and really great. We ended up buying a pint to drink there, and picked up a six pack. Now i'm curious to see which Woodchucks ARE sold here in Ann Arbor so I can see if the ones we tried in VT will show up here. read more

I stopped in and tried a couple of flights. I have had woodchuck cider before and thought it was "just ok". I have to say that the ones I had while there were all very good! In fact the blueberry and barrel select were so good I got some to go! Wish they had some "real food" to eat, could have used something to take the edge off while sampling. I might have stayed longer if I wasn't so hungry. The bartender started off pretty aloof and not very helpful or engaged. I was one of 2 people there so there was no excuse to not interact with us. After I asked a bunch of questions, he warmed up and started educating us on cider and informing us about some of the business behind it. Took a bit to get him going but once he warmed up he was good. That said a taproom bartender should be on his game with info and not have to be drawn out. I love this place! So many different kinds of cider to sample. This is actually where I discovered that I don't really hate cider I just hate the overly sweet stuff. My friend & I always come here on our yearly Vermont camping/brewery trip. Play some cornhole, have a tasting flight, drink some pints, take home a growler! Such a great place. You can tour and try tons of ciders. I love Woodchuck and they had a lot of other kinds that you can't get in Indiana. We only had an hour. I wish we had stayed closer to this are because I would have come here multiple times. There were so many ciders to try. We did the sampler and did the quick walk around tour. I'd love if they had food too, but it is really just a drinking stop. I wish we had loaded our car with ciders we couldn't get at home, but with it being such a time crunch we got there 6 packs right before they closed. Stopping on the way to our New Hampshire destination and on the way back to Indiana will be the plan next time. read more

We had a really great time sampling all the ciders and checking out the self guided tour. We also bought 3 cases of cider to take home! It's not just Woodchuck. We can buy it everywhere at home. It was more fun to try all the new flavors and brands we had never seen. My favorites were Wyder's Prickly pineapple, Gumption citrus, Gumption Choco Lottie, and Woodchuck raspberry! Yes we ended up bringing a Woodchuck home. My husband really liked it and we were sure they had this flavor at home. We should have gone with the citrus. We got here about half hour before closing so felt a little rushed. The 2 servers were quick to help us and get us set up with our flights. But they were engaged with another party who was there. I did have more questions, but found answers looking them up on my phone. I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again. Actually I would love to make it more a vocal point. I didn't realize earlier on our vacation that this was 1.5 hours away or we would have stopped by earlier in the week. Since it was Gump Day (Wednesday) we got to play corn hole, and if we made a shot we got to take home a goodie! Made the pilgrimage to woodchuck yesterday from CT and it was not as impressive as we were hoping. It is almost set up like a wine tasting verse a brewery, they offer 4 free samples ans then you can buy a pint if you so choose. They have a few tables set up with checkers but other than that the ambience is definitely lacking. It would be nice if they had a small kitchen or menu of bar snacks to munch on but according to staff they are not planning on offering food at all. Cider was amazing, ambience was meh. If I'm picking out a drink to take home I'll probably pass on the cider for something else in the aisle. That being said, I really enjoy Woodchuck for an occasional sweet treat and an enjoyable atmosphere. The bar itself is charming and simple, in my handful of visits the same two guys man the bar pouring pints and flights for those in attendance. The duo is sociable and entertaining, good for a casual conversation. The bar has one TV that usually is playing something on ESPN, not a terrible way to take in a game especially if you want to avoid the hustle and rowdiness of a larger eatery or bar establishment. The cider itself is tasty, though I usually won't want more than one, just so sweet. I prefer to get a flight and sample their extensive amount of taps. Vermont's hard cider competition is pretty legitimate and Woodchucks expansion into a corporate model has many locals turning their nose up but from a simplistic perspective, the space is relaxing and fun and the cider is appealing so it gets a thumbs up from me. Oh, and for anyone looking for the full experience there is an interesting self-guided tour that gives the companies history and allows a look at the production floor. read more

Chances are, that if you are going to Woodchuck, you have had their ciders. There is no need to review the quality, their success speaks of itself, so I will just review the experience of a visit. (If I may add, the smoked apple cider is ridiculous.) The building is fairly new, as it was still under construction on our last trip in '14. It is a great stop as you wander around Vermont stopping at breweries and visiting farms. The building is spacious and bright. The tour is a self tour, and only take a few minutes. Just follow some arrows and see the production plant from a viewing platform. It isn't all that different from other breweries. Holding tanks, bottling machines, nothing different so I appreciate it being set up as self guided and a few historical exhibits on the wall. The bar is the attraction. Wide open, a lot of natural light, real friendly staff. The tasting is free, and you get four large pours from a long list of their offerings. It is a great deal, between the four glasses it has to be at least a pint. Great stop while out for a drive, you could be in and out - tour, tasting, shopping and all - in half an hour. read more
