We are visiting Tucson for the weekend and our goal was to find a divey chill bar that served cold beers and wings . After a little research .. The Wooden Nickle was just the spot ! Pulling up the exterior vibe was simple and yet it was drawing us in! The outdoor covered patio option is ideal for our pre spring /summer weather and with plenty of seating! Upon entry we were spotted by the locals ,pool tables ,basketball on the TVs , music and the warm welcome of the ladies working the bar! Please note , ya gotta order at the bar , for your food and drinks . We were a little slow to see that " sign"! Look up! The Saturday specials were exactly what we were looking for ! Wings and fries basket $11.50 Wow wheat on draft $4.50 Spicy pickle shot $4.50 ( I skipped out this time ) We ordered the hot wings and the mango habanero hot wings . The wings were a little bigger her than we prefer however the flavors delivered!! The extra perk is that crisp on that skin! A little dip dip in that ranch and I was in my happy place , belly satisfied and taste buds happy! High five to the chefs making it happen in the back! The lighting was ideal for the ambiance that we were looking for, not too bright not too dim! The walls are tastefully decorated with local memorabilia and your typical booze signs. And let me tell you what ... that Zima sign took me down memory lane! Our experience offered a clean environment , sorry if the boyfriend left his sticky fingers on the bar! :) Let's not forget the service ! Ladies you killed it! On point , quick , great energy , smiles and the check ins were greatly welcomed ! Keep killing us with those smiles it goes the longest way! We look forward to our next trip back! I kept coming back bc the amount of fish was great for 15 (3 long planks of cod) I told the sup they should've just said that they didn't have any fish, I would've ordered something different . This is a little dive bar that reminded me a lot of the local watering holes back in the Midwest. I came by on a Sunday and got their wing and fries special for 11 bucks. Bartenders sara and helene should not be bartending, for being bartenders they should know the difference from someone being drunk or someone having a good time. They threw me out on my birthday all I was doing was just sitting there waiting for my friend to show up and we try to order a beer denied him because he was with me and all I was there just sitting down waiting for the karaoke to start and she threw me out and took my expensive beer away like I was being a nuisance. But they should have more training of how to talk to customers and at least ask if they're driving. I'm sure they serve people that drive way more than they thought I was drunk and they serve them way more I'm sure. Yes they have the right to deny anybody. But I'm here to let you know do not go in that dangerous bar bartenders are mean especially those two and they'll have their biker gangs gang up on you. Both perfectly happy to violate our civil rights. We're well aware that it was a violatiolation. And welcomed a lawsuit, saying they can't wait. Owner parked coidencially was parked next to us. I was expecting the worst....AND I WAS SO HAPPY TO BE WRONG! This place has changed! Don't get me wrong, it is still a dive bar, but a nice patio and a lot of interior renovation gives it a nice clean look. This is a dive bar with really good wings. The beer selection isn't anything remarkable nor is the alcohol selection. The rest of the food is good too. There isn't table service so you just order with the bar tender. The bathroom layout is wierd, but it's a cool dive bar. read more
