For starters, we sat down and ordered Drinks. My wife ordered a glass of white wine. It had clearly been opened a day or two before and was bad. We told the waiter it was bad and even though he said he would check, he didn't. Twenty Minutes later, with a full glass of bad wine in front of her, we asked if we could buy a fresh/new bottle and they had NO bottle service. Only by the glass. We had ordered dinner and the Scallops my wife ordered were literally so salty you could not eat them. We arrived at the resterant, noticed several empty tables but was told we would have to wait-45 mine later was seated in the direct line of kitchen to the diners,my drink was very weak, and my 38 dollar steak was tough and under done, half the sides were cold the dessert however was delicious, cheesecake and blueberry tart . We had always wanted to try this place. Many people had highly recommended it. We decided to try it. Getting here requires walking through the casino. We went in a Friday night and got reservations but don't think we needed them as they were not overly busy but might have just been a slow night. Definitely a little more upscale but not pretentious. Service was great and super friendly. I got 14oz Ribeye Steak Grilled Asparagus and my wife got the Chicken meal. The reason my wife got the chicken was there were no smaller cuts of meat except the Filet Mignon. The food was great. If you want a nice dinner that is a step above for a special occasion perhaps definitely recommend this place. read more

My food was served COLD and the Service was awful. During the dinner we had to get up and find someone to get the water and drink we had asked for. There were four employees at the front just standing around talking, one of them finally brought us the one drink. The waitress was more interested in how much money she needed for her boyfriend's birthday present than she was in serving. She even told is about a new steak restaurant that was opening in Derby she was taking him to. Maybe we will try that one next. At one point she even came to the table and said "well damn". I don't know why that was said. Too bad she wasn't attentive to her patrons, she would have made a better tip. We were there for a birthday celebration and spent good money for four of us. Food tasted okay but not quite worth the money spent. Longhorn steak house has much better service and food for the money, but a bit louder. read more

Went for a dinner birthday party last night. I will start with the ambiance was very nice so my expectation was a bit high. The server and hostess were very personable. Where it fell short was the food was horrible. Ordered the calamari and it was fried so hard all you tasted was burnt grease. I don't even remember seeing calamari! It reminded me of the crunchies you get at long John silvers but those at least have flavor. Then they were out of pasta, out of scallops so I reverted to the 27.00 frenched chicken breast with brussel sprouts. The chicken was smaller than the palm of my hand and dry, the brussel sprouts were cold but edible unlike the chicken. For as pricey as this place was I expected so much more I will not be back! My bestie and I enjoyed a marvelous meal here this evening. We started with a crab cake which had a lucious texture with large lumps of crab. It was accompanied by micro greens, roasted corn salsa and a red pepper sauce. I chose to try the French onion soup which came with gruyere melted atop a full slice of bread. I would suggest smaller pieces of toasted bread as my preference. The soup was tasty, and the cheese was nicely melted with some "chew". I ordered their "mini mignons, which were 3 bacon-wrapped small filets (I would have been happy with two). I ordered them medium rare+ and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. These were accompanied by some small roasted potatoes and a delicious mushroom demi glaze. My friend loves a ribeye. She ordered hers medium-well and claimed it to be perfect. Along with her order came 1 side. Her baked potato was huge and is normally "loaded" but she chose to have only butter and could not partake of more than 1/2 due to the size. Our entrees were accompanied by a fresh loaf of bread with balls of butter. For dessert, we ordered creme brulee. The custard was smooth and notably flavored with vanilla bean. The sugar topping was browned perfectly, along with the perfect "crack". We were efficiently greeted by our hostess and taken to a nice table for two. She provided us with our menus, and told us our server would be with us soon. Our server was excellent! Dressed as Alice in Wonderland, since it was Halloween, she was efficient, friendly and attentive. A manager made the rounds of tables, and explained the new mignons and the use of Creekstone Farms beef. Not one complaint here!! read more

Bread was very hard and not very warm. I'd give it a C. The steak was flavored very nice and it was good, just not sure it was as good as the price though it was. Onion rings had a thick batter with a herb like flavor in it. I did not care for them. The water was good. Our first time here, its been a fantastic experience. Not only was my Ribeye cooked exactly how I ordered it, it was an excellent cut of meat as well. It was marbeled but not fatty. If you're familiar with a good steak, you'll understand this is what a Ribeye SHOULD be, not what they commonly are. Our waiter Jessica was prompt, attentive, kinda and very understanding as we made our way through our courses. She recommended a bottle of wine instead of the two glasses we had ordered and showed us the better value in the bottle. Her wine recommendation was also a perfect pairing for two rich cuts of meat. Outstanding with a Capital O. This meal could not have been more perfect. Both of us got the surf and turf and it could not have been better. The steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The lobster was exquisite and the asparagus was wonderfully seasoned. The chopped salad was delicious. The service made the experience even better. Derek was attentive but not overbearing. He was there when needed but not when he wasn't. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and would be perfect for a special occasion. I will be going back again soon. read more

All things horrible! 30 min per drink order No flavor steak Cold food Dirty plates were never cleared off the table. We diligently helped the waitress keep our checks separate. When the bill came due she was confused and combined all orders. And they were about 75% full. Do yourself a favor and literally eat anywhere else before you arrive at the casino. read more

Gave It A Second Chance - Beware We really liked this place pre-pandemic and hadn't tried it for quite a while. Food quality was always good but the service had been shaky. 3 were dining this time. Initial water and drink service was a bit slow. We ordered salads and some of the dressings weren't served. We waited for quite a while for our entrées to arrive. When we finally flagged down the waitress and pointed out that other people around us had been served the waitress told us the kitchen threw away the ticket. A bit later, she came back and said they had just sold out of the scallops one of us had ordered. Finally we were served only 2 entrées. The 3rd one came out 12 minutes later. Manager really had no explanation of the slow service and mix up. We were there from 7 to 11 (4 hours) and were the last diners in the restaurant. Steaks were over-cooked and service terrible. Started out with glasses of THE PRISONER wine. Awesome but at $15.50/ glass. We had to ask for the bread and when we did it arrived quickly. Perfectly baked and served with 3 different butters.(herb, salted and honey). Be careful not to eat too much or you will be full by the time the meal is served. While drinking the wine and trying not to eat all the bread the two of us had an appetizer, the house cured smoked bacon with white navy beans and a fancy mustard sauce. It was delicious, interesting and worthy of 5 stars. My husband ordered the Angus Beef Filet and green beans . It was perfect down to the Grilled tomatoes garnish. My husband almost licked the plate. Definitely 5 stars. I had the bacon wrapped chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms served over a penna pasta with a English pea pesto sauce. Needed a little more sauce. Worthy of 4.5 stars only because the pasta was a little dry. However, the chicken was tender smokey bacony perfection. The surprise was the side dish of cream corn with a sour cream sauce. My husband hates sour cream but he loves this dish. Oh baby oh baby we both loved it. Desserts were ordered and the cream brûlée did not disappoint. Came back the next night and had a few more surprises. This place is totally awesome. read more

We have eaten at Woodfire Grille about four or five times since it opened, and each time I feel that the service and quality of food has gone down a little bit. I'm sad to say that the last visit we had the food was average and for what you're paying you should be getting a much better quality taste and cut of meat in my opinion. Still a fairly nice date place since we live in the middle of nowhere and cities of any normal size are further away. read more

It was our anniversary so I was excited to come dine here but I left a little under impressed. The food was good, but service was lacking a bit. Maybe our server was just new though? It took longer than we expected for our food to come out and it wasn't terribly busy when we were there. When our steaks arrived, she didn't ask us to cut into our steaks to see if it was cooked to our liking (the servers at the tables near us asked those customers). The steak was a little more rare than we liked, but we blamed that on ourselves because we asked for medium rare. Hubs had the tomahawk and it was the first time either of us had it so we just assumed it looked a little more rare because of the bone. It was still good though. When we were done, we asked for a box to pack our leftovers, she brought us a box to pack ourselves. I mean, usually I don't mind boxing my own stuff--but isn't it a little odd that a table nearby us also asked for a box the same time as us and their server boxed it for them? In summary--the decor is the restaurant is really nice. Food presentation was also on point. I was happy with my filet & lobster. The portion of the sides are plentiful. We stayed during NYE st the hotel and made reservations here. The hosts are very nice and friendly! The place is clean, and they obviously care for the clientele. It wasn't as busy at 7pm as we thought but it was fine. I didn't care much for the table, since we are over 6' but it's fine. The waiter was nice and friendly to start and accommodating. I chose the NYE special (lobster tail and barley risotto) $45 and husby chose the tomahawk ($48?) and we chose a bottle of wine. The food came fast, however.. I was very disappointed in my plate. It looked very splashy. And the lobster tails weren't that great tasting. I don't know what kind it was, but they weren't sweet water ones? I've lived in NYC, upstate NY by the lake, and Las Vegas so I had the pleasure to eat at really great places. There are places that charge $60 for one lobster tail but $45 for these was sad. They weren't that great unfortunately . Very.. fishy tasting. I know lobster is a crustacean but it just didn't taste right and for that price at place like the Kansas Star in KANSAS.. I would maybe expect just a tad better. Maybe Not that much more, since the state is landlocked. It just tasted thawed or Flash frozen. The Rissotto was great though.. but less than maybe 2gram of it. I don't know if we will eat here again though. I added my picture. Please judge yourself. Terrible customer service. Was staying at the attached hotel, and the hotel says that there are restaurants in the casino. There is really only one good one which I thought was this one. And I called to order food to pick up since I can't sit in the restaurant with kids and dogs. After calling the response I get is they don't do pick up until after 9 o'clock. So I called back at nine only to find out that I have to go in person to the bar to order and wait for my food to carry back to my room. This is ridiculous. It's too bad they won't service the hotel in any better manner. The hotel is great there just isn't any decent food options on site. read more

The first time we tried Woodfire, it was fantastic! Great food, great service, great experience.... well, things have changed. The food this time was just average. The service, well, the waitstaff seemed distracted... we sat with empty drink glasses for 10-15 minutes...twice! So, will we go back? Maybe. Oooh take a little drive to Mulvane for a special night out! You can't beat this wonderful place for dinner. The steaks are tender, and delicious. Very unique presentation, and flavor. The home made bread came with 3 flavors of butter. Honey, Hawiian sea salt, and olive oil with herbs. The servers are excited about the menu, and make great suggestions. Tonight, we had the chefs special. A center cut Delmonico steak with pepper sauce. Delicious. I never order dessert, but I'm so glad I did! Fluffy lemon cheese cake, with a thick cookie crust. The manager came over, and introduced himself to us, and chatted awhile. He gave us his card, and told us to call him for reservations. What a great personal touch, and a wonderful dinner experience!!! It is located inside of the Kansas Star Casino, so you can have a little fun after your meal. The ambiance and setting were fantastic. Seats were very comfy, and our waiter was helpful. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. Calamari to start was bland to taste with no recognizable seasoning, but nicely tender. More sauce accompanying the dish would've possibly provided that flavour. Steak wasn't tender, bacon around the scallops wasn't cooked enough, and the actual scallops were a little fishy tasting. Other people at the table said their steak was tender so I could've just had a bad one. Lobster Mac and cheese was good and so were the fries if not slightly too salty. Dessert was possibly the worst. Creme Brûlée was split, so the texture was closer to scrambled eggs. It also had a grainy/floury taste which I have no idea where that would come from. Ice cream (homemade) trio flavours were decent. Maple flavour was nice and smooth, and definitely "mapley". I was looking forward to the Dulce De Leche flavour but massively disappointed. Caramel texture was grainy, and the actual ice tasted like it had freezer burn. It will be worth another try because of its potential, I hope I just went on a night where the kitchen staff wasn't having a good day. read more

We shared an appetizer of fried calamari, the batter was a little heavy for me and it was strips of calamari, I prefer the rings. My husband had the surf and turf, I had the bacon wrapped scallops. No knowledge of the menu. Asked for recommendations and she had none. Brought food with no silver. Left 2 items off order and brought the sides after we were 90% done with our meal. Sent them back and still left them on the ticket. Had ask to have them removed. Placed silver and steak knifes in the wrong positions when they did come. No big deal. Just a statement. The chef busts his ass to put out good food and someone in front hires someone that shouldn't work at Denny's. Brought dessert with food still on the table. If anyone at woodfire cares the reservation was under Henderson on 9/13/13 Environment is nice. Classy looking, clean open and quiet. Atmosphere is great. Menu has a decent variety and there has always been a Chefs "not on the menu" item. Food comes out warm and tasty. Cons: wait staff is a joke. I generally have my meals comped and they make me feel like it's a "free meal" so no need to bother knowing how to explain the menu if you have questions about the veal for example. If you're about the experience the Restaraunt is beautiful quiet and romantic. The gas fireplace visible from all sides is the visual focal point and it looks amazing. But if you're a foodie...the menu prices don't add up to the quality and service. They do make a French Press Cafe Americano ($8 for a large 3-4 cups) is definitely something that was a huge surprise. Lost to the waiter who I had to flag down for ten minutes to get creamer (you thought to bring me brown sugar and chocolate shavings but no cream? Then not only did the waiter not check back but was clearly agitated that he was being "bothered". I gamble a lot. So I get a lot of meals comped. So will I eat there again? Absolutely. Would I be willing to pay those menu prices? Sure...but if I paid $60 a head before drinks like I do in Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, that's not the experience I would not expect. I'm not a complainer. I speak with my patronage or lack there of. So if your meal is free...dine away. It's good fare. But if you're paying...lots of restaurants in that price range in Wichita that would be a much better value and experience. read more

Food was awesome I came back second day to eat again. This is a classy place that doesn't smell of smoke like the rest of the casino. Had filet first night and salmon second night. This place was not up to expectation at all. Food was mediocre and prices were higher than they should have been. Service was not great either, see my gripes below: 1) First off, they offer you "premium" water in these fancy glass bottles that are branded, only it is just filtered water as they fill them up and tote them around like you are getting Evian or Fiji. Noticed this right away when the bottle we had said sparkling and it obviously wasn't sparkling water (next one said still). When we asked the waitress got all defensive and said nobody ever notices......so strike one for me with the imposter water. Maybe not a biggie for others but a complete sham. 2) Wife and I ordered drinks, her a cocktail and me a simple bottled beer (because they carry absolutely 0 beers on tap, which is a crock in this day and age). Wife got her drink pretty quick, I waited 20 minutes for my beer and was 1 sec from walking up to the bar to get it myself before the waitress finally brought it to me. 3) I had the fish and chips that was on special (for $26). It should have been at the $10-$15 dollar price point and I have had better for much cheaper. Overall everything is overpriced, drinks, food, appetizers, all, are just over priced for what you get. The highlight of the night - the wife had a steak, and it was seasoned good and cooked really well....and earns 2 starts over the 1 or 0 I wanted to give. Went to this place with a large group on a night only opened to us! The food was good and the service was very attentive. The salads we good and crisp. We were all served in a timely fashion. The main course filet mignon cooked mostly how I wanted it, with it only being slightly under cooked to my personal taste. I like my steaks medium it was closer to medium rare. For a while we thought this casino steakhouse was a cut above most of the other run-of-the-mill casino restaurants. Usually, casino dining establishments leave a lot to be desired. After tonight, the previous statement seems to hold true yet again. We had been coming to Woodfire Grille a few times a year when visiting family in Kansas. In the past, the steaks and other dishes were surprisingly delicious. I'm afraid to say that the experience tonight was less than pleasant. First, the crab cakes for an appetizers. One was golden brown and perfectly pan-fried, the other was blonde and mushy. A clear sign that the cook isn't paying attention to details. Second, the Caesar salad. They serve a cheese crisp (frico) with this salad that is usually fresh and delicate. Tonight, it was so stale, it was difficult to bite. It bent like cheap plastic instead of being brittle. Another key sign people aren't caring about the products coming out of the kitchen. Third, the 10oz filet. Medium-rare should be the easiest to prepare for a grill cook. It is by far the most popular temperature for steaks. Tonight's was almost raw in a large portion of the center. The beef itself was barely seasoned. I'm always sad to report these types of downgraded impressions. read more

From the time you walk in the service is excellent. Our waiters David and Joseph were awesome. The wife and I started with salads and crab cakes both were great. For the main course the wife had the filet which was cooked perfectly and was tender to were she could cut it with a fork. I had the prime rib which was one of the best I've had. For dessert we had the chocolate cake and a scoop of the ice cream. I'm not a chocolate fan but have to say the cake was delicious and went perfect with the ice cream. Overall we are extremely pleased with everything about this place. We will definitely be back again. read more

Our family had Mother's Day dinner @ Woodfire Grille...Something has happened to this restaurant & not in a good way. My filet was tender & tasteless...the asparagus was cooked to death, my Mom's steaks were first cooked rare (when she ordered MW) & then came back charcoal, my sister & her daughter shared a ribeye that should have been MR, but came back w/no char & practically mooed...the salad, which has in the past been so tasty, was tasteless...looked like it had been prepared in a food processor, the wait staff was over worked...not attentive......REALLY disappointed. Have been there on several occasions, ALWAYS been really pleased. Will not be going back...our total bill was $300....not good value for the price....NOT Good! read more

Me and my co-worker were pleasantly surprised this evening. Our dinning experience was wonderful with our waiter being Dameon who was extremely tentative and made excellent recommendations. We started with a perfectly made martini. The service was spot on! They started us with bread and artisanal butters... a nice surprise. The atmosphere was warm and inviting with a fine dinning feel. Dinner of prime rib, asparagus, Lobster Mac & cheese all prepared w/perfection. For dessert we shared the apple pie with home made maple ice cream. The amount of apples that the chef piled into the pie made for two was incredible. The flavors were very well paired and we will definitely return to this hidden gem next time we are in the Wichita area. read more
