Extremely disappointing experience at Woody's of Dewey Beach. We were watching the World Cup game, which went into overtime, when the owner abruptly turned off the TV and told us that we had to leave--even though the game was still in progress. For a sports bar, cutting off a major World Cup game during overtime and asking paying customers to leave was incredibly poor customer service. The way the situation was handled was especially disappointing. We will not be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a welcoming spot to watch a game. read more

I was fishing at the DE bay and had no luck. We decided to go to the Indian river inlet. On the way we stopped at Woodys. I had a crab cake on a salad. It was one of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Service was very efficient and friendly. Ambiance was what you'd expect from a crab shack. We ate in the covered exterior. I walked into the bar area which looked interesting and nautical. Will definitely be back!! read more

Woody's crab cakes are definitely a must get during a trip to Dewey. The crab cakes have so much crab and such little filler that they are a little bit mushy, but because the flavor is 10/10 it's worth it. Crab cakes come as a sandwich or a platter and then they offer a variety of sides. The Asian slaw was actually so delicious and was the perfect accompaniment. Even though we all ordered crab cakes the menu is large with lots of amazing seafood options. They have a really nice outdoor patio, but it's hard to snag a spot at dinner time. My girlfriend and I were excited to try Woody's because of the good reputation and it was only a short walk from our hotel. When we arrived, the older man who was seating guests was staring straight down at his phone and didn't realize we were there. When he finally noticed and seated us on the patio, we watched everyone around us get service. No one came to greet our table for about 10 minutes, therefore I had to go up to the hostess again and ask him if we could have a server. When the server finally arrived, he wasn't apologetic and honestly it seemed like our presence annoyed him. We were pretty discouraged at this point and ended up just opting to get drinks and apps at this and then dinner elsewhere. The oranges crushes were all very good. We tried the whipped crush and grapefruit crushes which were delightful. The crab soup was also very good and the nachos were mediocre, but we expected that from a seafood restaurant. The menu is pricey due to the location of the restaurant and they are known for their crab cakes, but we didn't stay for entrees. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side with seating in and outside. The overall vibe of the staff was strange, some servers very bubbly and warm to their tables, but most seemingly miserable. Introduction on Dewey Beach trip: Representing 2023, W is for Woody's. In September 2023, I was on a group beach trip at a house in Dewey Beach a close walk to Woody's. I stayed for 3 nights. The timing of this trip ended up being good for three reasons: 1. Three weeks earlier I had surgery for cancer on Tuesday, 8/15/23. I was not aloud to go in pool, beach, or bathtub for exactly 3 weeks. My community pool's last day for the season was Labor Day Monday, 9/4/23 (2 weeks 6 days after my surgery), which kind of sucked because that kissed going to my community pool the rest of the season or any other pool parties. About a week earlier, my friend convinced me to go on the trip saying there was availability in the house during the Monday to Friday part. Ultimately, I decided to take off work on that Tuesday and worked from the house on Wednesday, but I had a great time on the trip that I decided to extend to Thursday doing the same working at the house. And I was able to fully enjoy the beach on Tuesday, 9/5 exactly 3 weeks later with no issues. As well as the other 2 days to lesser extent as I had work too. 2. DC/Maryland was experiencing an intense September heat wave with temperatures in the upper 90's; so it was great timing to escape to the beach where temps there were still pretty hot as high as low 90's. 3. Most importantly, I met my girlfriend of now 2 years on this trip! We were friends for several months, but then dating started in February 2024. Experience with Woody's: If I hadn't extended my trip into Thursday, I wouldn't have tried Woody's. I was tired of leftovers after Tuesday & Wednesday night; I decided to go to Woody's for dinner. I called in the order, walked over didn't have to wait long, and took back. Friends looked a little jealous. I got the crab cake sandwich with fries. It was an amazing crab cake with great fries. It certainly wasn't a cheap dinner, but it was worth it for a good amount of crab cake with a high quality. read more

Good onion rings! My son liked his steak sandwich. I had the raspberry walnut salad. It was very good but had no cheese. They were very accommodating and brought me crumbled blue cheese which made the salad really good. Iced tea was kind of weak and had no flavor. Service was quick and everyone was nice. Great place located along the main drag way of Dewey. Parking is nonexistent, and parking in general in this beach town is tricky. Once you find your way here, there's tables on a patio, tables under a covered patio, and a few tables inside along with a bar. This isn't a massive restaurant. However, it is a very welcoming and friendly place to grab a bite to eat. This is a locals place for sure. Our server was great! Very attentive and our food didn't take long to come. Been in a few times and it's the same employees so obviously they treat them well if they stay for extended periods of time/years. Ordered crab soup and two different types of wings - Old Bay and Mild. Both were ordered extra crispy and both were cooked perfectly!! They are tasty. Highly recommend the wings. Always will be a favorite of ours while visiting the area. I consider myself a connoisseur of all things crab so when my friend recommended that we go to Woody's in Dewey Beach, for "the best crab cake ever", I was all in. Well, if we're only going off of the restaurant's likability by the number of seats available, there was one table left and we got it. I scanned the entire menu but the crabcake appealed to me most because it said it was virtually filler less, which meant that the lump crab meat was going to be plentiful. The wait was very short and I was not disappointed by the quickness or that crab cake in the least. Let me tell you something. I love a good crab cake with no filler and this went above and beyond. I looked around, it seemed pretty obvious that everyone felt the same way I did. I ordered a crabcake with no bread but left the old bay chips on there because they were homemade and I got myself a crush. Nothing about that meal was mediocre. It was the best. I'm still thinking about it to this day. I know there are plenty of places at the beach that you might want to frequent but if you love yourself, you'll go there at least once, but I'm assuming that you'll go back a couple of more times. there's not a whole lot left to say about that crabcake except I sure wish I had taken one to go. If I could give this place 0 I would. The owner/manager is rude and doesn't value customers spending hundreds of dollars on one of the biggest game days. He turned off all televisions playing the World Cup final and came around telling tables already paying their bills they had to leave. We were holding our bill with payment waiting for our waitress when he came over and said you have to go and I'm turning the TVs off. Glad people got up and left, as well as others who walked away from the door who were showing up to watch and spend time together. Not shocking according to some people we met at other bars who say Jimmy is a mean and person. Never ever coming back. Oh and your food sucks. read more

This place is so cute! A little beach bar located in the heart of Dewey beach. I heard they have the BEST crabcakes so I had to make my way here for lunch when I was down at the beaches. I opted to sit outside on a high top at the corner of the outdoor patio area. I loved that I got to people watch while I ate. I ordered a orange creamsicle crush without the whipped cream. This drink was strong and delicious! I then ordered the crab cake platter with a side of Caesar salad and steamed veggies ( which were carrots and broccoli). The Caesar salad was dressed well and had crunchy croutons. I did find some wiltered/dark lettuce pieces that were kind of off-putting. The steamed veggies were okay. They were barely steamed but tasted fresh. The crab cake was the REAL star. Very good, hardly any fillers and loaded with crab meat. I enjoyed every bite. If I were to come back I would just get the crab cake and maybe two different sides. I was trying to be healthy so I ordered two veggie sides instead of fries and they were just not good at all. It was a great day and loved the ambiance of a nice, covered, outdoor dining space. I would describe this place as an upscale, beach dive bar. Has very nice outside dining and a small inside dining area. The server was quick to great us and very friendly and overall did a fantastic job so all great there. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer and they were very good., not greasy and the dipping sauce was excellent. We ordered the crab cake platter ($32) and a Turkey Reuben. The Reuben was excellent but the chips lacked flavor. The crab cake is as advertised, almost completely crab. It was excellent but I think if if was served with a good remoulade sauce they would be perfect. The tater tots were good but the caesar salad was growing in dressing and the croutons were mushy so not good. So, bottom line, I would give it a try and defiantly give the crab cakes a try. My wife and I were driving down the Atlantic coast and spent the night in Dewey Beach...and walked up to Woody's which was a few blocks from our hotel. The food here lived up to its Yelp billing...very delicious. We started off sharing the melty cheese and crab dip...on my....this could be a meal on its own! And then came the lump crab cake and salad...as expected...the crab was fresh and flavorful. Woody's is a laid back, little better than a bar and not quite the restaurant. Started with a few apps, Buffalo Shrimp was better than the firecracker shrimp. The Buffalo shrimp were a little lost with the sauce and the blue cheese. Mozzarella sticks and marinara same old. Entrees: pit beef, served cold and our friend wasn't crazy about it. Another grilled chicken breast sandwich, not much to talk about. The other entrees were the crab cake platters. The crab cake was good but not the greatest or the best so it doesn't live up to the reputation that I was expecting. Maybe I expect too much, sorry. They were on the moist almost wet side, one person thought that was odd. I liked it better than being dry and overcooked. This is our third time to Woody's. The first two times outstanding, with some issues tonight. Tonight, we mixed things up a bit. Instead of just crab cakes, I had the gaspacho soup with crab meat lumped on top and a wedge salad with salmon. The soup was cool and crisp, with lots of tomato bits, green pepper and onion and a healthy portion of crab meat on top. ($9.00). Really delicious and filling. The wedge salad was a very large serving of romaine lettuce (more in the shape of a boat than a wedge) with blue cheese crumbles, onions and bacon. Came with a buttermilk dressing on the side. With the 4-ounce salmon, the wedge was $19.50. I love a good wedge. Although the salad was good, I thought the salmon was dry and, frankly, disappointing. My partner got the yin/yang soup bowl. It's half Maryland crab soup and half cream of crab. We each tasted both and agreed that the Maryland crab side was far superior to the creamy one. Of course, that's personal preference, but oh my goodness, that was excellent Maryland crab soup. Some of the best I've ever had. The Yin/Yang bowl is $12, which is the same price as a bowl of each of the individual soups. So, if you want to try both, this is the way to do it. My partner decided to get the crabcake sandwich (without a bun) and potato chips ($26). We found the crab in the sandwich to be dry and the chips to lack flavor. For the first time in our 3 visits, my partner left some of the crabcake uneaten because it was dry. And left most of the chips. And this person love chips with old bay seasoning. These chips lacked salt, old bay or any seasoning. When I saw that they weren't finishing the crab cake, I swooped in, but also found it to be really dry and with diminished flavor. I slathered the crab in cocktail sauce (which I've never done before), because it needed something. We also tried a Woody's Bloody Mary with crab meat. That was outstanding. The drink was good and the sweet crabmeat was delicious. There was a lot of crabmeat in the drink. ($15). Sadly, if I were rating our previous visits I would have given 5 stars. But this visit, with the crab in the crab soup and Bloody Mary delicious and the crab in the crab cake (the central dish) dry and disappointing, as well as the dry salmon, I give this visit a 4 overall. And I think I'm being kind. The service was excellent. Another thing that impresses me about Woody's is how hard the workers work, yet they are pleasant and efficient. Woody's has excellent service. When we arrived, we were told the wait would be about 30 minutes. They took my cell number and 32 minutes later I got a text and we had a table. The place can get pretty loud, both from the other patrons and from street noises. While we were there, at least three separate emergency vehicle trips occurred. It's a really loud place if you are looking for conversation you might want to go elsewhere. read more

How have we been going to this area for vacation for sooo many years and only found out about Woody's last year? This time we went twice. The first time we were seated immediately outside, even though it was crowded. The tables are very tight outside, but it didn't take away from the delicious crab cakes. I saw a plate come out with one on top of the raspberry salad - didn't know that could be ordered - so I got that instead of the platter with sides. It was just what I wanted - some nice fresh veggies with the crab! The young servers are very friendly and helpful, even while they are rushing to serve and clear tables. The only negative is the flies at sunset. They just wouldn't leave us alone. But the waitress was correct, as soon as the sun set, they didn't bother us anymore. The 2nd time we went back with our adult daughter. We all got the crab cake platters, which were yummy as usual. We had the same friendly waitress whom we had a year ago. It's nice to see there is consistency in staff there. If you don't like dogs, then this isn't the place for you. There were numerous very well behaved dogs both waiting for tables by the benches, and in the small outside dining area. We were fine with that - the dogs were all so happy! read more

Then the flavor, literally zero, my wife was dipping it in cocktail sauce. Dry and tasteless. Then the sides, I hit Cesar, was okay, not much to it, bottles dressing, also got the veggies broccoli and carrot mix, broccoli was mush and ends were black :( Wife wanted coffee and dessert and these guys don't have coffee. Anyway ...,, We all have different taste, you may disagree. If you're trying to decide between captains galley in OC and this place for crab cakes, hands down go to captains. Went here specifically to test the "Best Crabcake" in Delaware. We haven't gone to other restaurants in DE, but I am VERY particular and picky on where I will eat or try Crabcakes. Giving 4 stars generously for the Crabcake flavor alone. This is a VERY casual bar/beach dive bar. I also got a little creeped out when I unwrapped my utensils from the napkin to discover stuck food particle on the fork. We also did not ask before ordering what the Market Price for the crabcake was, so the pricey bill was ridiculous and did not match the portion size of the meal platter served. Crabcake was 6 ounces (diameter size of a small flattened tennis ball) and the platter gives you choice of 2 sides. I chose Caesar salad and French fries. Crabcake was delicious, little to no filler, just a delicious binder (don't ruin it with tartar sauce or cocktail sauce, these are delicious on their own!!). Caesar salad was delicious but SMALL, especially when that is THE cheapest thing in the Kitchen. Fries tasted and looked like they came from a frozen bag tossed into a fryer, no fresh cut Fries here and needed ketchup, so not the quality I was hoping for to bring us back. Service was good. We were checked on at appropriate times. We sat in the enclosed outdoor patio, which was comfortable, and they do have tvs for viewing sports. read more
