I recently moved to West LA, but I always make the drive to World-8 for my gaming needs. The staff is really chill and knowledgeable, and you can tell they game and have gamed for a long time. I brought in several old games I had kickin' around my house and got enough money for them to repair my Xbox 360, which had been having trouble with the disc tray. They were able to fix it in a day and get it back to me fully operational at a decent price. It beats having to repurchase a new Elite! They have a wide range of products from plushies to random toys. Their new game selection is a little less stocked, but it beats going to Gamestop and giving them my money. Mom and pop shops like this are a dying breed, and unlike most storefronts, these guys really care about appealing to gamers at first glance with their decor. i mean, they have afire flower as their store sign; how much more legit can you get?? I've totally made this my number one gaming stop. You should, too. read more

This is a neat little store. I have been collecting for roughly 25 years and it's refreshing to find a spot in LA other than "Game Dude" to find rare retro items. I was very impressed to see obscure gems like a boxed copy of Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System, Rolling Thunder 3 for Sega Genesis, and Castle of Illusion for Sega Genesis. My only complaint is when asked to test items before they sell them to you, the help will shrug their shoulders and say, "Sorry I don't have that console hooked up right now." The item I bought was an NES zapper. What kind of a retro game store that names them self after a secret level in Super Mario Bros. does not have an NES hooked up to test games??!?? That's like going into Bank of America and they have no cash on hand or you go to Chipotle and they have no chipotle sauce. Do they not test out their merchandise? I noticed a boxed NES on the shelf for sale but I guess it is too much of a bother to hook it up and test my item. There were two huge guys playing with a Nintendo DS behind the cash register and I along with my friend were the only customers in the store. Rather than play games on company time why not offer to hook up that NES and keep a customer happy? Oh and to the people that are upset with their return policy it is clearly stated on the receipt you sign what the terms are. Don't sign the receipt and accept the merchandise if you plan on trying to alter the contract after the fact. read more

I made a wrong turn for a carwash place and ended up here on a Monday night. I stopped playing video games a while back but I have passed by this store several times before and was always curious about what kind of old retro games they had in stock. In case they happened to have a gameboy color in stock I was ready to get one that same night. There was a parking lot in the back which was super convenient! My nostalgia hit me hard as soon as I walked into this cute little local spot, and they indeed had a green gameboy color in stock that was functioning perfectly fine! But... I actually ended up buying the nintendo 3ds instead, haha! It was almost closing time but the staff never made me feel rushed, were very friendly and helpful with all my questions. They had great selection of gameboy color games but make sure to test them out before buying as some of the chips I was about to purchase did not work properly. Like I mentioned before I don't play video games anymore so this may be an old news for some of you folks, but they had this gaming console which lets you play snes, genesis, and gba(with a separate adapter) games all in one! I almost thought about buying this one before I realized that I don't have a display or tv at home.. Like how the other reviews have mentioned, they got great selection of games for sure! I was mostly focused on old school games & consoles during my visit but my friend was definitely eyeing on other new consoles & games they had in stock. As long as you ask they will explain to you the details about each console and let you test them out. I also did realize that their prices were slightly higher than what I could have bought for online or at a big franchise game stores. But I understand this fact due to them being a local neighborhood game store they gotta meet their ends too. For all the personable services they have provided during my visit I wouldn't mind paying extra at all and will highly support this place in the future too! Boyfriend had this place bookmarked for awhile and we decided to finish our day of adventures with a stop here... Such a cool shop! Wish we hadn't come 20 minutes before closing, just gives us more of an excuse to come back. They have everything a gamer could want, almost every console ever. They have two flat screens mounted on the wall with a couch adjacent and you can pay to play. Don't remember the prices, but they were cheap. Some other people commented that the associates weren't very friendly, but maybe you just weren't very polite. The two gentlemen working last night were super friendly and helpful. I had my 3ds with me and one of them told me they have meet ups there when new games are released. I wish I had taken all the stuffed animals on display home with me! read more

Call all video gamers! This place is for you! I would have never known about it if my friends had not pointed it out. You can recognize it pixel marquee and mushroom sign. Inside it's very small with a rather limited selection but the associates are very nice and helpful. They buy back and sell almost everything. They also have tournaments Friday nights so if you have nothing to do on a Friday night, go here! I recommend it for everyone because as I non-gamer, I still enjoyed the place. read more

I remember going to this store back in 2012 to get Call of Duty Black Ops 2 for a very early release, others had to wait till midnight to have the game, camping at other stores, and this place was nice enough to sell me one of the best games I've ever owned in my life, 4 hours earlier than everyone and for that Ill be forever grateful! If I could give zero stars, I would! PLEASE BEWARE OF CONSOLE REPAIRS. I took my PS4 that had a stuck cd for repairs. Paid 50 bucks to have it "fixed". Technician calls me assuring me that he can repair it and that he'd have to swap the disc drive.. I agreed and he tells me he's let me know when it's ready. I get the phone call that he has tested TWICE, and was in working condition, that it should work properly. Cool, I pick it up the same afternoon, come back home and try to play some games. To my surprise, the PS4 wasn't working, not taking any cds at all. I tried several cd's, nothing. I was astounded as the technician had just told me the machine had been tested twice. I call that very same night and let him know about the error and that it's still not working. All they did was removed the disc from the console. I take it back again within the 30 days warranty. Guy gives me a call back saying that now that the mother drive (is that what it's called? Idk) is not working and that I had two options: to repair it again (buy a new expensive part) or they could keep the console and give me 40 dollars in store credit!. I was in disbelief. I wanted nothing to do with that store and surely didn't want their in-store credit. And the punch line here is that, at the bottom of the invoice they give you when you take in your consoles, it says "we're not responsible for loss or damage to property caused by fire, theft, TESTING, or other causes beyond our control" so for all I know this guy could've damaged my console beyond repair and there's nothing I could've done! Conveniently, they wanted to buy our my "broken" PS4 for 40 dollars which they were going to sue as parts! It's as shadiest as it could possibly be. read more

Great service and easy to navigate around the store. It's nice to know there's a decently priced retro gaming store for 8bit junkies such as myself. The staff is a bit younger than expected but they retain a solid knowledge of everything in their store including "what obscure abstract n64 game I should try." Their inventory spans from the old school intelevision systems (in stock) to the modern playstation 4 games. It's awesome to have something in the neighborhood. Awesome job guys. I've talked to some of the world 8 guys at fgc tournaments, but never actually went into the store until today. The store has a very neat set up, and probably one of the only game stores I know that sell fight stick parts. The prices were about average for a retro video game store, but the workers were very curious and greeted me with a smile, willing to help with any questions I had. They were having a great sale today and I managed to pick up a section Z on nes for relatively cheap. It's getting harder and harder to find stores that sell retro games, give this place your business and keep away from the gamester monsters. read more

I am glad i discovered World 8 because I was getting tired of my local mom & pop game store lacking in the gaming department as well as noticeably converting to a general movie/game/electronics store. My local store just doesn't give a fuck and doesn't even know what he has in stock anymore. The guys at World 8 will look for the game before telling you if they have it or not instead of guessing off the top of their head, otherwise will tell you if they know for sure. World 8 has a very neatly organized setup along with a nicely filled display cabinet with plenty of classic games that would otherwise be a pain in the ass to acquire. The past few times I have visited, I noticed that they rent out systems in the fashion of a LAN center except it's just a controller and a pre-located televisions. I would call them what the rates are since I don't need it though. I like the employees that I have met so far, they have been able to give me an answer for just about anything game related I have asked them and they seem like pretty cool people to get to know. Overall, this is the first place I am going to go to if I need anything old school related. I do have one suggestion, they need to put out a catalog sometime. read more

Nice little spot but I have to emphasize the word "little". Its tiny and as such, not a wide variety of game choices. They did have some interesting items behind the glass, and there was a tournament going on when I stopped by. If I lived in the area, I'd be at their store all the time. Its probably the best game store for miles around. However, if you're looking for a larger selection of games, particularly retro games and accessories, I suggest going to Game Dudes out in North Hollywood. read more

These guys are great. My PS3 over-heated and the little yellow light showed up. They handled it no problem. Got it running in a matter of days. Couple weeks later, it over heats again. They take it back, get it working again, no charge. Would definitely come back again for repairs (but I hope I don't have to). read more

I came here for the first time and I definitely enjoyed it. I was looking for a new Gameboy Advance SP charger as I seemed to have lost mine and wanted to get one ASAP. I called to check if they carried any and the girl offered to put it on hold for me. I came back the next day as my Pokemon Yellow was not saving any of my progress. Israel was a total sweetheart with the whole process. He was very patient as I tried to go through their GBA games and failed to find a game I'd like. Their tech was out for the week so he told me that he'd try to get it fixed as soon as he can and he did! I can't believe I've been blindly passing by this place for years! Wow i cant even comprehend wat jst happened theyre so nice!!!! Im definitely coming back here next time.... I had to sell my games so i come here and they gave me a decent price for store credit. The killer deal is that they give 100 dollars worth of used games for 80 dollars worh of credit!!!! :D made my day... Theyre reccomendations are awesome and its nerdy palooza i love all the decorum and the multiple tvs that are there so i can try out games... The atmosphere felt warm and comfortable almost comparable to the campfires of dark souls. I was amazed by the amount of retro games they had in stock. They have a decent selection of retro games, you can get the latest titles, and the staff seemed very friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaint is that the retro game pricing is very average. Some of my favorite retro stores sell their games at the same prices, but I can also find some diamonds in the rough where they go below that. I was not able to find anything I was looking for. Back when metal gear solid ground zeroes was released I tried to buy it here and they tried to sell it to me for 60$ when the game is 30$ normal price. When I mention this the guy tells me "you're paying more to receive it early" these guys can eat my balls. A year or so later today I call back and here is what I have to say. You guys should have people that aren't ass hats answer your phone. Already had a bad experience in the past a year or so ago. Called in to see if you guys had a game in stock. Dude on the phone tells me rudely "if you order it we tell you when it comes" then hung up on me. Lucky he Didn't give me enough time to rip into his ass. Don't waste your time with these people. They're scam artists and have a horrid return policy and sell broken items. Go to gameplay. Employees are much nicer and they don't make you want to scream into a pillow when you call them. read more

I am a video game fanatic and came here while on vacation with my girlfriend. We ended up buying an Xbox one used with two controllers and a couple of games. Decent pricing, my only complain is that one of the controls they sold to us did not work and they didn't have any other used controllers only new ones so we had to drive back to LA and pay the difference. One thing I hate is waiting. I can't stand waiting, and hooboy did World 8 give a great first impression! I had recently been in an accident and the top screen to my Nintendo DSi XL was broken, like totally trashed on the inside and what sucks is having a messed up leg and no DS to roll around on to pass the time. So as soon as my leg was in working order I decided to get my DS Fixed, I called up World 8 and asked them if they had the part in stock. A yes and a 'Can you fix it today' and I was off to World 8. Israel was a great guy, took a look at my DS gave me a good rate and said it would be ready in about an hour or so. Awesome! I went to get some food, came back a little early and it was done!
