The vegan patties are so delicious

So happy I was able to experience this lovely cafe. The gentleman behind the bar was there was so pleasant. He answered all of my questions and engaged with each customer in a such caring manner. For dinks they had coffee, regular kombucha, and hemp infused kombucha. (There were probably more options but that's what I saw)Both flavors of the hemp infused kombucha were delicious. That was my first time having hemp kombucha and it totally relaxed my mind and body. I ordered 2 Jamaican patties cabbage & tofu. I had to wait a while because they were being made fresh. When they came out both were so delicious they were seasoned, soft, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. My picky 5 year old loved the tofu patty. This is the best cafe I've ever been to. It's afrocentric, healthy, and everything is of the highest quality!

Lovely food lovely service and great prices. Don't come here if you're in a rush. Loved the exhibition they had up and lots of seating. I will be coming back here again.

Amazing food. Hands down FANTASTIC! We have a Jamaican born chef in our friend group who came with us who gave her stamp of approval which is very high praise. Special shout-out to the African peanut curry, the red curry, the Jamaican patties, and the tamales! Very interesting spot with a cool community/cultural history behind it. Prices extremely reasonable and the serving portions were generous. Will defiantly return and recommend!

Thank goodness for World Beat Cafe! There aren't many open, sit-down dining options at Balboa Park but this place was open and within walking distance of all the museums. Everything at World Beat Cafe is not only vegan but most of their ingredients are grown in their garden right next to their restaurant! My party and I all ordered the Rasta burger. It's a veggie patty with a sweet and tangy Jerk sauce and comes with a side of sweet potato fries. The food took quite some time to come out, about 30 minutes. Nevertheless, our friendly waiter checked on us often and let us know our was on the way. Our meals were filling and bellies were happy!

Finally I got to try one of the dishes at the World Beat Center. First time eating here so I was pleasantly surprised at the various food dishes, snacks and drinks available. I ordered the African Peanut Coconut Curry. I appreciate all the dishes being vegan as I am lactose intolerant so I did not have to worry about any dairy ingredients. The curry was tasteful and the veggies were enough to fill me up. Overall the dish was good and it came with a small salad. I wish the food portion was bigger bc it was pretty good, but overall it is a decent size. I'm definitely coming back to try other dishes and partake in one of their dance classes.

The food was delicious, flavorful, and well priced. It was pretty empty when we went which made it great for looking around at the art and history exhibit. The cashier was super friendly, and we met the owner, who was lovely to chat with! Overall, a great experience and I'd love to visit again.

This is the spot!!!!!!!!! I did the combo plate and it was absolutely hands down the best food I've tasted at a restaurant!!!! The combo plate is most definitely a plate for HUNGRY HANGRY ppl. It's so filling and flavorful! I tried stopping myself when I became full, but the greediness I don't claim got the best of me. I ate every inch of it and left nothing! When I walked into this sanctuary for the first time it was breathtaking for me. I was so excited, amazed, and thrilled to see the many pieces of art and the wealth of knowledge here! The owner is a LEGEND! I really want to go more into detail on how amazing and uplifting this space is, but it's really one of those places you just have to EXPERIENCE it for yourself. You have to check it out, because it will be really WORTH YOUR TIME!

My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try this place for a while and we finally made it over there today. They are doing take out options or you can dine on their cute outdoor patio. I got the Cheezy bean burrito and my boyfriend got the Veggie Jerk burger. Both were a 10/10. The chili that was on top of my burrito was *chefs kiss*. We've been trying to eat more vegetarian and vegan meals. It's nice to know that this place is right in our neighborhood and absolutely killed it in the vegan flavors. Service was also top notch, we will definitely be back!

The catfish was good but not as good as the shrimp. They mac & cheese was the best I've had!!! We also had the peach cobbler and it was soo very tasty. My only regret is not getting it with ice cream. 2 days later I went back with my kid to try the chicken tenders, fries, egg rolls, and get some more Mac & Cheese. Chicken & fries were seasoned good. I tried this place this past weekend at Del Mar's Taste of New Orleans festival and they were there operating under the name The Gumbo Pot. I saw they had a line and they were one of the more moderately priced food options so I gave it a try. I should've KNOWN it was going to be all bad when I asked for some Tony Cacheres and the girl behind the counter (I'm assuming is the daughter) said "I don't know what that is" and the older lady behind the counter (who I'm assuming is the mother) pointed at some packets of Crystal and Louisiana hot sauce like that was supposed to be a good consolation or something. If you have to add hot sauce to it then it ain't cooked right. Anyways, I ordered the 3 item plate with jambalaya, shrimp étouffée, and gumbo for $20, and let me say this is the MOST disgusting gumbo and étouffée I have EVER had in my life. The jambalaya was the only thing I could force down. The gumbo LITERALLY tasted like canned soup and the roux was a little light-skinned (if you know you know) and runny and watery. Then they didn't cook the okra right because it was slimy. There was no kick to it (gumbo is supposed to have hella flavor) and it was super bland. Just inedible. Don't let me get on that unflavored mash-up they called étouffée. Although the shrimp were a nice size, but they were rubbery and they had a fishy taste to them, which means they weren't fresh and again, NO flavor. The ONLY thing I could force down was the jambalaya and even that was too runny for jambalaya. It had nice chunks of chicken and sausage, but no flavor. I don't know how you can call yourself cooking Creole food and it's all bland and flavorless. I don't usually do this, but I took the uneaten étouffée and gumbo back for a 50% refund. I should've asked for ALL of my money back. The ONLY commonality between all of these things is NO flavor! The people in line thinking this inedible crap is good and authentic Creole food have obviously never been to Louisiana nor eaten food cooked by people from Louisiana. UPDATE TO RICHARD T.'S RESPONSE: Apparently you can't read because I SPECIFICALLY said "I tried this place this past weekend at Del Mar's Taste of New Orleans festival and they were there operating under the name The Gumbo Pot." Too Clearly you can't read OR cook. Vendetta for what? I don't know you but what I do KNOW is you were coming with feminine argumentative energy you displayed at the event. I could tell EXACTLY who you were when another customer was telling you what they wanted and you told your daughter "Don't let the customer tell you what they want, you tell them what they want." If you had so much to say why didn't you say it when I came to return that slop? You knew better. You're lucky I just didn't dispute the entire transaction with my credit card company instead of being nice and making your wife only give me back $10. You don't get to dictate HOW I spend my money sir nor do you get to tell me I should just let you take my money by thinking I should pay for something that I'm just going to throw in the trash. I knew I should've listened to dude at the BBQ booth when he told me not to eat here. Keep lying though saying I ate half the food (I took a pic for my records because I could tell by your energy and KNEW you would come on here and lie once you got your manties in a bunch about the review) you'll find yourself in court for libel. Nobody was trying to get a free meal hence why I brought that dog food back to you guys. Nobody cares how long you've been in business. I know people that have been rappin' for 30 years and ain't good so that means NOTHING! Then you go on to say that "a black woman trying to criticize and belittle a black owned business makes it even more shameful and disgraceful. Uplift, support and positive are obviously not words in this person's vocabulary, and definitely not values that were ever passed to her. Do better!" Maybe YOU should do better and learn how to cook. Just because Big Mama knew how to cook and maybe you watched her in the kitchen when you were a kid doesn't mean you know how to cook. That's the problem with so-called Black businesses (FYI it's technically not even a Black business because your wife isn't even Black by the way.) They think they should get a pass for bad service and bad food and then play victim. Just accept it and stop trying to pull the race card. It's a pathetic defense to your disgusting subpar food. READ YOUR REVIEWS! PLENTY OF PEOPLE SAID YOUR FOOD IS BLAND AND NOT GOOD! It's not just me. Being "Black" has nothing to do with anything and it's sad that YOUR parents didn't teach you how to accept responsibility and take criticism instead of trying to pull the race card. It's really sad for a senior citizen to act like this because somebody gave an honest review of your bland gross food.

Thank you for being kind, hearing my concern and responding back. Update: Aww man!!! You know when you find a good thing you hope it's not too good to be true.... Well, let me just say that today's visit in Aug 2026 wasn't a good one. Came back with the expectations of my last visit which was my first. Came here ordered what I got last time and service was extremely slow. I watched the family in front of me and the person in the back of me get their food 25 minutes before we got ours. Then when we did receive our food the fries looked as if they had been cooked twice and sitting in oil. You know the bottom of the fries that get all the access grease yea.... Imagine all your fries that way.... I took them back immediately and show the gentleman who passes out the food, he looked at it and apologized. I asked him how long it would take before I get some more and he said about five or 10 minutes. So I took my chicken and he took the Fries. Now anybody who knows me, knows I wanna eat my food together. I don't want my food separated. I didn't order it separate. I didn't pay for it separate I just wanna eat it together. I waited for 10 minutes with one chicken strip left and they tried to make it up, but it was almost just as bad, as they gave me a little extra fries, but they were all just like the ones that I had given up. The fries on top seem to be fresh and the ones midway through and down were just as bad if not worse than the first batch as these had more burnt ones in them. I'm not sure what's going on in the kitchen and I can't say there was a line as most people had already gotten their food and were dining. I just think that there might be a disconnect in the kitchen. The ambience was OK. The tables initially needed to be wiped down, but that might've been due to just a high volume of customers finishing their meals and leaving and the turnaround. I'm hoping that this might've just been this experience and I didn't get too excited my first visit. Im definitely disappointed this visit and it may be a little bit before I come back. I have pics but I'll spare you the detail as I think you get the picture. Initial Review July 2026. Not sure what happened to my initial review where I had given this establishment five stars. Great customer service, food, and atmosphere were top-notch. Prices decent and a great place to take the whole family, just dine with a group, or just a cool date night. Patio area with bar and small game area of corn hole. The area can get a little chili in the evenings but they have heaters to keep the customers comfortable. The vibe is cool here and I stated that I would definitely give this place another visit.
