Yummy! I've been wanting to try this place for a while! I took my non-vegan mom and kids here since we were visiting her and it was nearby. The restaurant was clean and service was super friendly. We were asked if we needed anything a few times by te different staff members. We ordered a few different items to try and I will say, I remember eating at McDonalds in my non vegan days but this was way better! Even my mom said it was delicious and devoured her cheeseburger. My girls enjoyed their nuggets and fries. I tired one of their nuggets and and. It was pretty spot on for what I remember with the sweet and sour sauce. I had a burger with cheese but can't recall the name at the moment. It was really good! For dessert we shared the vanilla with chocolate fudge and chocolate with chocolate fudge fluffs. Both were tasty but I was partial to the vanilla. They also had a caramel flavor that I need to try next time. I think the only thing missing are shakes! They sell merchandise. Be prepared to have an answer if your kid accidentally picks up a condom and asks you what it is. Hats, tees, and more! Parking in this area isn't the best and street parking can be scarce. We drove around and found a spot. Bring plenty of change, just in case or park in a self-pay lot. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal at Mr. Charlie's! We were celebrating my 4 year soberversary and decided to come here for a treat. We have been to the location in San Francisco, but this was our first time visiting a San Diego location. My husband got the Mr. Chuck, which is similar to a Big Mac, and I got the Mr. Royal with cheese. We both made our meals combos, and I added nuggets for us to share. We ate at the restaurant, and the inside was clean. The staff was very helpful and checked on us during our meal. The burgers and fries came out so fresh! The fries taste just like Mickey D's! The burgers were good, although I personally preferred the Mr. Royal to the Mr. Chuck. The green sauce is a must, along with sweet and sour sauce for the nuggets! Mr. Charlie's is super cute, the service was amazing, and the food was surprisingly delicious! I'll admit, it didn't look like it was going to be anything special, but that cheeseburger was GOOD. The woman working was an absolute delight--so friendly and attentive. She even checked in to see how I liked everything and showed me the specials/deal card. My only hesitation is the price. A "Happy Meal" is almost $18?! I had a free cheeseburger coupon from CityFest (which is why I went), and adding fries and a Diet Coke was almost $10. Maybe I'm just getting old, but... OOF. Vegan fast food but make it a conceptual self aware brand? sign me up! I eat meat but went here with a pescatarian friend. I thought the inside of the restaurant was really cool, it was spotless and there is a small gift shop in the back and a few cool infinity mirrors for a unique photo opportunity. Slightly surprised at the prices but the deals menu truly does have a great deal or two! BURGERS - the sauces do the heavy lifting but they were good! Gotta eat them while they are hot. I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't meat tbh. CHICKEN (NUGGETS) or SANDWICH - I wasn't a big fan of how these tasted. The texture was fine but it had more of a fishy taste than chicken to me - then again I haven't had vegan chicken so idk what to compare it to. FRIES - they were good, if a tiny bit stale tasting? I'm not vegetarian or vegan and I go to McD maybe like once every 2 years or so. I feel like maybe I'm not the target demographic for Mr Charlie's, but it turns out I am. I loved it! My favorite thing is the Mr. Fluff-Head ice cream. Oh my goodness. I came back two days later to get another one. It's plant based from POTATOES! I am just delighted by that, you wouldn't have any idea. I got the chocolate one, it has these salted caramel pretzel bites, just delicious. I usually get the nuggets and fries when I go to mcd so that's what I got here as well. Both were DELICIOUS! My friend was craving the nuggets and that's what she went back for a few days later. I love that they make some of their sauces in house. I'll say we have another vegan place nearby called Val's and I think their fries are closer to mcd, but these were still really good. My vegetarian friend loved her burger and we all agreed we need to do the Mr Rack next time. I didn't expect to enjoy everything as much as I did. My daughter had told me there was a new Vegan hamburger place opening up and that I had to go! She said Travis Barker was a Brand Ambassador to the company and was going to make a special appearance. She said she would have gone with me but she was going to be out of town. I had replied to her do you really expect me to wait in long lines of a mob crowd to check it out? She said "YES!" I said I would think about it. I did have other plans to attend to but the idea kept creeping into my mind just go. I thought how many times will this happen and that it could be a fun opportunity. Well that night, I kept thinking it over and was going back and forth about wanting to go but not wanting to fight parking challenges and also deal with the crowds of people which I knew were facts . The next morning, I was sure that I was going to deal with the parking challenge and crowds of people to experience this one-time event. I decided to get a head start and go down there early. I left my house at 10:00 a.m. with my thermos full of cold water since I knew I would need it with the wait. I grabbed a little bite to eat also so I would not be so hungry waiting in line. When I arrived in the area around 10:30 a.m, I was very fortunate to find parking on 4th street which was the street right next door to this place. I already knew that was a good sign . Even at that hour, parking was not easy. I walked to 5th street where Mr. Charlie's was and saw there was already a line. I jumped in line and while waiting, made a friend while waiting in line. We waited about 2 1/2 hours to get in . Once inside, I was not concerned about the food as I just wanted to prepare and meet Travis Barker. My friend said she would take my picture with him, and I said I would take hers with him as well. We had it all planned out . There were security all around making sure everyone had the opportunity to have Travis sign something and also take a photo with him. It was my turn, and I can't lie, I felt a little nervous, but said to him it was a pleasure to meet you. I asked if he could sign my thermos since that was all I had . He said it was also a pleasure to meet you and yes. He signed it, my friend took a photo of us, and then it was her turn and she had me take a photo of her with him. We turned around and saw a woman with food on a tray ready to hand us what we wanted since it was the "Grand Opening" with everyone to receive a FREE hamburger. We both told the woman we wanted to try the Vegan burgers. She handed us the food and we looked quickly for the exit as it was so crowded inside as you could imagine . The atmosphere was very lively and upbeat. There was also a DJ playing inside. We both parted ways, and I ate my Vegan burger while driving home. And oh boy, it' was so flavorful! I was thinking that the wait was not so fun, but since I made a friend or two, it made it bearable. Plus, having the opportunity to meet Travis Barker was so awesome! His energy is so chill and relaxed! He was friendly and professional! The food was very delicious. The entire experience was so worth it, and I was so happy and grateful my daughter influenced me to go. She loved my photo with Travis. I can't wait to go back to Mr. Charlie's! I've slowly been trying everything on the menu before posting this review. I'm more partial to their "hamburgers" than the "chicken" options. The Not a Cheeseburger tastes shocking like a cheese burger and the "cheese" melts so well. I found the Not a Chicken Sandwich to be a tad dry, I'll ask for pickles and Ketchup next time. Speaking of ketchup they use the real deal! The Mr. Fluff head was super creamy and tasty for vegan ice cream, however the PB pretzel had an odd flavor. When I came in Vasco, Marcos, and Gustavo were all very friendly and gave me the best customer service I have ever received. Vasco immediately greeted me with a smile and recommended the Mr. Sunday with the Mr. Sunday and Cilantro sauce. Marcos and Gustavo were also at the front and were staying busy with taking orders and giving outstanding service to the other customers. It took about 30 minutes for our order to come out. I'm guessing it's due to the opening-week rush, but it felt a bit excessive for a burger spot. I'd also suggest adding another register or POS station. With lines out the door, a single register seemed to create a bottleneck. Overall, I'm glad they're here and I'll definitely be back. Once the initial hype dies down and the turnaround time improves, I think this place will be a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

The food tasted fresh and can't tell any differences between normal burger joints. Didn't feel heavy after eating the vegan replacement patties. My apartment is one block away from this location and I would love to be a regular customer but every single time I have had a craving for some vegan soft serve (except once) the machine was broken or they were sold out. I'm not exactly sure what is going on here, but I wouldn't think soft serve mix would be a perishable item--especially since no animal products are used! They have not even been open that long and to be turned away 3 times saying a product on their menu is unavailable--it's disappointing to say the least. I can get vegan burger patties at WFM 2 blocks away for a lot less $. But vegan soft serve is actually a unique offering they could capitalize on (if they cared to). I'd really like them to do well, but I'll be honest--my patience is being tested. read more

My first time at Mr Charlie's a few weeks ago was met with disbelief when the server took my money and then told me it would be 30 minutes before I got my food . I look at him with this belief and then told him I'm on my money back. This time it only took them 5 minutes to bring me the Rack. What a Sad piece of food it is. The onions aren't probably chopped and it is covered in barbecue sauce which is spicy and does a great job at covering up and masking whatever passes for protein.
