My daughter had told me there was a new Vegan hamburger place opening up and that I had to go! She said Travis Barker was a Brand Ambassador to the company and was going to make a special appearance. She said she would have gone with me but she was going to be out of town. I had replied to her do you really expect me to wait in long lines of a mob crowd to check it out? She said "YES!" I said I would think about it. I did have other plans to attend to but the idea kept creeping into my mind just go. I thought how many times will this happen and that it could be a fun opportunity. Well that night, I kept thinking it over and was going back and forth about wanting to go but not wanting to fight parking challenges and also deal with the crowds of people which I knew were facts . The next morning, I was sure that I was going to deal with the parking challenge and crowds of people to experience this one-time event. I decided to get a head start and go down there early. I left my house at 10:00 a.m. with my thermos full of cold water since I knew I would need it with the wait. I grabbed a little bite to eat also so I would not be so hungry waiting in line. When I arrived in the area around 10:30 a.m, I was very fortunate to find parking on 4th street which was the street right next door to this place. I already knew that was a good sign . Even at that hour, parking was not easy. I walked to 5th street where Mr. Charlie's was and saw there was already a line. I jumped in line and while waiting, made a friend while waiting in line. We waited about 2 1/2 hours to get in . Once inside, I was not concerned about the food as I just wanted to prepare and meet Travis Barker. My friend said she would take my picture with him, and I said I would take hers with him as well. We had it all planned out . There were security all around making sure everyone had the opportunity to have Travis sign something and also take a photo with him. It was my turn, and I can't lie, I felt a little nervous, but said to him it was a pleasure to meet you. I asked if he could sign my thermos since that was all I had . He said it was also a pleasure to meet you and yes. He signed it, my friend took a photo of us, and then it was her turn and she had me take a photo of her with him. We turned around and saw a woman with food on a tray ready to hand us what we wanted since it was the "Grand Opening" with everyone to receive a FREE hamburger. We both told the woman we wanted to try the Vegan burgers. She handed us the food and we looked quickly for the exit as it was so crowded inside as you could imagine . The atmosphere was very lively and upbeat. There was also a DJ playing inside. We both parted ways, and I ate my Vegan burger while driving home. And oh boy, it' was so flavorful! I was thinking that the wait was not so fun, but since I made a friend or two, it made it bearable. Plus, having the opportunity to meet Travis Barker was so awesome! His energy is so chill and relaxed! He was friendly and professional! The food was very delicious. The entire experience was so worth it, and I was so happy and grateful my daughter influenced me to go. She loved my photo with Travis. I can't wait to go back to Mr. Charlie's! What a great spot! Mr Charlie's is a fully plant based fast food restaurant in San Diego. It very much looks like another fast food place, without all of the animal products. We walked in and the staff immediately greeted us, we ordered the cheeseburger, chicken nuggets and fries. Everything was amazing, and I was with non vegetarian friends, who thoroughly enjoyed. Vegan fast food but make it a conceptual self aware brand? sign me up! I eat meat but went here with a pescatarian friend. I thought the inside of the restaurant was really cool, it was spotless and there is a small gift shop in the back and a few cool infinity mirrors for a unique photo opportunity. Slightly surprised at the prices but the deals menu truly does have a great deal or two! BURGERS - the sauces do the heavy lifting but they were good! Gotta eat them while they are hot. I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't meat tbh. CHICKEN (NUGGETS) or SANDWICH - I wasn't a big fan of how these tasted. The texture was fine but it had more of a fishy taste than chicken to me - then again I haven't had vegan chicken so idk what to compare it to. FRIES - they were good, if a tiny bit stale tasting? The texture is like a crispy sponge, in a good way. I liked the portion size. Don't skip the fries! KETCHUP - bomb? I've slowly been trying everything on the menu before posting this review. I'm more partial to their "hamburgers" than the "chicken" options. The Not a Cheeseburger tastes shocking like a cheese burger and the "cheese" melts so well. I found the Not a Chicken Sandwich to be a tad dry, I'll ask for pickles and Ketchup next time. Speaking of ketchup they use the real deal! The Mr. Fluff head was super creamy and tasty for vegan ice cream, however the PB pretzel had an odd flavor. This new vegan restaurant is the perfect lunch when you're craving fast food and definitely hits the spot. When I came in Vasco, Marcos, and Gustavo were all very friendly and gave me the best customer service I have ever received. Vasco immediately greeted me with a smile and recommended the Mr. Sunday with the Mr. Sunday and Cilantro sauce. Marcos and Gustavo were also at the front and were staying busy with taking orders and giving outstanding service to the other customers. Both of them acknowledged me when I had a question about their drink options and complimented my outfit Marcos brought me my meal and even recommended their special daily deals they have, which means I'll definitely be back! Stopped by during their soft opening to grab a bite and it did not disappoint! Full disclosure, I don't eat a lot of vegan food but everything was flavorful and staff was friendly. Decor and design of the shop was a 10/10. Not Chicken Nuggets and Frowny fries were on point! Love all their sauces, not sure of the names but the green sauce and bbq sauce were great. Really excited to see Mr. Charlie's finally open in the neighborhood. The food was great, I ordered the #2 cheeseburger combo and definitely enjoyed it. That said, the wait was longer than expected. It took about 30 minutes for our order to come out. I'm guessing it's due to the opening-week rush, but it felt a bit excessive for a burger spot. I'd also suggest adding another register or POS station. With lines out the door, a single register seemed to create a bottleneck. Overall, I'm glad they're here and I'll definitely be back. Once the initial hype dies down and the turnaround time improves, I think this place will be a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

Went during the soft opening and was surprised that everything was pretty good. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The food tasted fresh and can't tell any differences between normal burger joints. Didn't feel heavy after eating the vegan replacement patties. My first time at Mr Charlie's a few weeks ago was met with disbelief when the server took my money and then told me it would be 30 minutes before I got my food . I look at him with this belief and then told him I'm on my money back. This time it only took them 5 minutes to bring me the Rack. What a Sad piece of food it is. The onions aren't probably chopped and it is covered in barbecue sauce which is spicy and does a great job at covering up and masking whatever passes for protein. Whether you're truly vegetarian (as I am) or just looking for a healthier option to fast food, this is a great place to go. I got the #7 combo (Double Mr Chuck, a generous serving of fries, and a drink) and left with a very happy belly. Though barely out the starting gate at this new location, the staff have mastered customer service and were very friendly and attentive. So glad Mr. Charlie's had a soft opening and we got to try it! It opens July 11th. Everyone was so nice especially Michael who helped us and made a point of seeing how things were with us after getting a chance to try our food. Dislikes: no parking, expensive ($19.49 for a combo meal), not all that healthy. Likes: Better tasting than McDonald's, slighly healther than McDonald's. Too expensive for what you get, plus the lack of parking are big negatives. At least I gave them a try. :( read more

I'm usually not a fan of anything vegan but everything tasted exactly like meat, if not better! I tried the cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, and fries which were all delicious. This was my 3rd time at a Mr Charlie's. Once in LA, once in PB for soft opening and now once in Hillcrest. I'm sorry but 3 strikes you're out. This place has terrible customer service at every location. It's like they are purposely hiring people who should not be in food service. Person at the register who looked like Jordan peele got my order wrong 3 times I had to correct them. Then forgot to apply soft opening discount. Then forgot to give me my table number. Watched from a nearby booth as they messed up the following 3 people in line and the manager finally stepped in. Lack of common sense aside, the food is just not good. Their mcrib or mc rack or whatever they call it is just the same thin burnt hockey puck on the same round bun with bbq sauce but this one came with a rock hard burnt bun as well. The cheese sauce instead of sliced cheese that came on the cheeseburger was gross. The fries are always under done. I think we owe it to plant power fast food to give our San Diego vegan business to somewhere that knows what they are doing. This place thrives strictly on aesthetic. Cheap ingredients, cheap drinks, terrible execution in preparation. As a vegan who tries to root for all vegan businesses this one is soulless and I hope they go out of business quickly so plant power can thrive read more
