I can vividly remember the Oak Park of the 90's and early 2000's that was sadly known for its high crime rate. Fast forward to 2022, and due to the area being "upgraded (gentrified)", there is a lot less crime (thankfully), thriving businesses are in existence, and luxury housing is available. While doing a Booksy search for highly-reviewed barbers, I came across the profile for Dwayne Speed...a barber at the World Class Faders barbershop. The photos showcasing Dwayne's line-ups and blends immediately sold me! Without hesitation I booked my first appointment. Normally when I enter a barbershop, either one of two things occur; I receive a very uninspired greeting, or I'm treated as if I'm invisible (use your imagination). Not at this shop! Upon my entry, I was enthusiastically greeted by at these three barbers who were actively servicing clients. I'm normally on the sending end of enthusiastic barbershop greetings. Therefore, I responded with a very meek "good afternoon" in total shock of the warm reception that I received. After Dwayne warmly acknowledged me as a first time client, he asked some qualifying questions about my hairstyle of choice and went to work! Since Dwayne did a great job of asking detailed questions pertaining to hairstyling preferences, I was 100% confident that my cut would meet and possibly surpass my expectations. Roughly an hour later Dwayne was putting the finishing touches on my mini-Afro. I couldn't help but smile as I looked in the mirror. My line was crisp and intact (y'all know that it's always a gamble when going to a new barber), Afro was perfectly picked out and shaped (think Steve Harvey circa late 90's early 2000's), and my beard was lined perfectly and evenly on both sides. I was not only shocked at the positive reactions/feedback from both my wife and son, but also from the feedback that I received from the trip out of the shop to my car. Recently opened and located next to Fixin's Soul Kitchen, World Class Faders (WCF) is a great spot in Oak Park if you need to get cleaned up and looking right. I've now been here twice to see my boy Armando who's recently moved to this shop, and was just here this past weekend. Since officially opening back up after this whole COVID-19 issue, when you walk in the first thing you'll notice is WCF's large hand sanitizer stand and face masks at the front. For those who need it and all barber areas are sectioned off with screens, and all barbers were wearing masks as well,l. Anyone waiting for someone to get a haircut currently has to wait outside, to minimize the number of people in the actual shop at a time. Armando always hooks it up with my hair and beard needs, and has various haircut packages for you to choose from. So you can come in and get a quick cleanup, or sit down for a 60 min appointment and get a full haircut, beard cleanup with straight razor and hot towel treatment (if needed), and a cleansing mask. You can also either call/walk-in the day of (not advised since he books up in advance), or you can setup an appointment through his online booking account, which is available to all of the barbers I believe. Another thing I wanted to point out is the the vibe of the shop, especially the music selection. You can't go wrong with old school Pop, R&B, Funk, etc., and get cleaned up while vibing to the likes of Prince, the Gap Band, or New Edition? It's very accommodating to everyone especially kids, which is a plus for me since I bring my young boys here to get their haircuts as well. I got a decent haircut here, but would NOT recommend this place if you are a member of the LGBTQ community. The barbers had a loud conversation, for the entire shop to here, lasting at least 10 minutes about whether "men should compete in women's sports," focusing on boxer Imane Khelif and repeating transphobic conspiracy theories that she is a man. One of the barbers said at least 2 dozen times "That's a man!" It was incredibly uncomfortable and inappropriate. Please be warned that this place does not appear to be LGBTQ-friendly, at least with this particular barber. read more

This short hair thing is still new to me, and I always feel out of place or unwelcome walking into barber shops as a female. This place is AMAZING. I walked in and said it was my first time in and they all, no joke welcomed me. Like it immediately broke the ice and made me so happy. Then the worst thing happened, and I couldn't find my reservation! I thought I confirmed through Booksy, but in my sleep deprived state I must not have clicked through everything. You can't put a price on quality! one of the hardest decisions to make is finding a new barber. The moment I walked into the Shop I was greeted by multiple barbers. It felt like I had been coming to this shop even though it was my first time. Andrae the barber hooked me up with exactly what I asked for in a haircut. Awesome! Searching for barbers in the time of Corona is no small feat. Add to that, finding a barber that will take on a not yet 2yo little boy, it was a struggle. Thankfully I found World Class Faders and D Speed and all my prayers were answered. We showed up right at our appointment time and D Speed was ready to go. They were temporarily set up outside about a half a block from the shop, next to a park. All the barbers, stylists were wearing masks and gloves. All other customers had on masks. The set up was very neat and organized. D Speed made my son feel comfortable right away, talking to him and offering high fives. As he got to work on his hair, he was calm and worked in bursts and anticipated when my boy was going to move his head. D Speed was great. He was even able to give my son a little line up! Heard great things about Drae and made an appointment the website/app which is very easy (thank you!). Arrived at my appointment and the first thing I noticed was how welcoming all the stylists were, everyone greeted me with "hello" (who does that!?). Once Drae and I said our hellos, I showed him a picture of my "hair goal" which I believed was light years away. Drae explained how he would cut my hair and made recommendations in support of my desired hair (style) goal which was nice. Drae stopped at here and there during my service to further explain why he was using certain techniques and gave me a mirror so I could view the progress and share my thoughts (I'm not making this up folks, who knew this type of service still existed??). While I was being serviced, the owner walks over to me and says an angel would like to pay for my hair service. I initially thought he was talking to the wrong person...I was speechless. The person who gifted me then walked over and said I couldn't refuse because the service had already been paid for, and the tip. I was just done. I had a rough week, being dealt some otherwise devastating news about a family member yet putting on a straight face in the world and I became a puddle of tears. In between tears, I shared a bit about recent our family news and thanked the kind person (thank you again, Nick!), again. As I prepared to leave, I bid everyone goodbye, it was such a unique experience at this point, I felt like these people were family! The staff said they would be praying for my family member which warmed my heart. I am not sure if this is a Christian business, but there is a uncommon difference in the atmosphere, and I'm here for it. I received compliments on my hair all weekend. I really can't express enough how much I love this shop and Lonnie (the owner who also cut my hair). I'm going to break this review down into two parts - (i) the cut, and (ii) the person. The Cut Phenomenal. I am not one to care much about the end product when I get my hair cut, and I usually just tell the barber a general idea of what I want up top and let them choose what to do with my sides. Lonnie absolutely crushed it. He did a bald taper (or fade? I don't know what it's called) on the side, but it looks good. And after a shower, I was extremely impressed with the quality of the fade. Leaps and bounds above what I've had probably ever. If you're looking for a good fade (or anything else), Lonnie's the man. The Person Lonnie is easy to connect with, and I just really liked his mentality. Many people won't care about this stuff, but Lonnie really takes pride in his shop and his team. You can see it in the style of the shop, the cleanliness, and how he interacts with his team. You can definitely tell he's the kind of guy that's generally optimistic and grinds; and that's the kind of person I want to give my business to. 10/10 will go again. read more

Jenn is incredible! I took my kids (10 yo girl and 7yo boy) in for their first haircut since quarantine started. Establishment is clean and they're observing safety precautions well. Both my kids have blonde, fine hair, so sometimes it can be a challenge just to catch all the little strays. Jen did GREAT--my daughter just got a trim of her long hair, and my son got...a whole lot taken off, and they look amazing. She chatted with them and was very personable and kind, and the owner talked to both of the kids about sitting properly in the unused barber's chairs (they were being a bit rambunctious) and was VERY kind about how he spoke to them. Other customers were respectful and obviously enjoying themselves, and the owner told us repeatedly, "I want you to be comfortable!" And we were.
