Later on, we found out that section was already out of season. As we walked farther, we finally saw much better cherries, but most of the good ones were way too high to reach and there were no ladders available. There were some lower branches, but the cherries there were not great in quality, so we ended up picking only around 3 lbs. We then decided to switch to the peach and nectarine area hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately there was barely anything good to pick. Most of the fruits were either overripe, damaged, or already picked over. Overall, it felt like the farm should have better guidance on which sections are still worth visiting before customers pay and spend time walking around in the heat. The staff was fine, but the overall fruit quality and picking experience were disappointing for us this visit.

The eggs are wonderful, delivery prompt, online store very accessible, and they conveniently partner with other local farms to provide veggies + fruit in addition to their sustainable meats (most CSAs will only provide one or the other). We came across Tara Firma initially via online / yelp searches shortly after moving to the Bay Area in 2016. When my husband and I initially started looking into vegetarianism for animal welfare reasons, I suggested we visit a farm that employs best practices of ethically and sustainably raised meat to help inform our decision. Tara Firma offers free educational tours every weekend and so we drove up one day with our 2 dogs (leashed dogs welcome!) and another family with their 3 (non furry) children for a fun Petaluma outing. The tour was informative and our guide was clearly super passionate about their mission. The farm was very beautiful and the lands idyllic -- we loved the fact that the cows were so free range that we could just barely make them out as a tiny dot in the distant hills. We all enjoyed observing the chicken dynamics around their mobile coop with their rooster guard, and they showed us how unperturbed the hens were when removing the eggs from the nest-- evening letting the children carefully take a couple out. Ultimately, we decided to pursue a vegetarian diet (especially after my husband met the pigs there), but we joined the CSA for their eggs and veggie share + cheeses (sourced from partner farms). We also have purchased meat occasionally for visiting carnivore families and friends, as we wanted to ensure if they were going to eat meat -- they were getting it from a farm like Tara Firma that does it in the right way. The best part of the CSA was their pet share as we realized buying offal from this farm would be a great compromise for our dogs (who were rebelling against our plant-based diet experiment) as we just wanted to provide our dogs protein with leftovers / byproduct without creating additional demand on the meat industry. Our pet share included amazing proteins like heart, tongue, cheeks, as well as more indulgent items like liver and kidney. Even the trotters and bones I would use to make broth in order to flavor / disguise our dogs' vegetarian kibble haha :) We also occasionally received some freezer burn meats, which cannot be sold for human consumption but safe (and very drool-worthy) for our dogs! Unfortunately, the pet share program has been discontinued but there are still plenty of diverse offal options in the farm store! Overall, a great local farm to support and highly recommend a visit!

But the actual picking part is really a lot of fun! It's got good chomp down on the blueberries while they picked and four of us picked 4-1/2 pounds of blueberries and something like 30 or 45 minutes! Gonna make some.delish jam and Pie! Alpine Blue not only allowed dogs, but had their resident farm dog sitting on the passenger side of one of the carts going up and down the dirt road. This local farm also beats others in prices! At the end of May, only cherries and blueberries were available to pick and everything was $4 per lb except the yellow cherries which were $4.50/lb. What a steal with today's inflation! The 1st farm we went to was way more than this. I like that this farm is widely open and you can explore anywhere you'd like. There were so many variety of cherry trees to choose from and I was surprised how large of an area there was for the blueberries. Not sure if we missed where the ladders were, but some folks near us had one. The place is clean and well maintained. Some paths were full and lush with grass. There were families just chilling and having a picnic in the orchard. Another plus is that it wasn't crowded like some of the other farms; we hardly saw anyone while exploring. They even offer rides up or down the road. All the workers there were so friendly. The sprinklers were on at the time we went, which made it fun dodging water and helped cool us off in the near-90° heat. There were portable washing stations and potties, and a sink by the check-out in case you want to wash your hands or fruit before bringing home. Overall, a great relaxing experience. Huge orchards, unbeatable prices, fresh fruit, and dogs allowed!

It gets crowded on the weekends so be prepared for lines. When you arrive there is a ticket booth near the parking lot to get ride tickets but if you walk further into the venue there are other ticket booths with much shorter lines. We took our 1 1/2 year old son on the cow train and he loved it. The corn maze is super fun and nice they have trivia questions along the route so you can answer questions to see which way to go.

This was our first trip to G&M Farms in Livermore and it was incredibly special and actually quite the fun surprise off the freeway. As we were coming home from a night away, we wanted to stop and have a moment with our little amongst the pumpkins and support an East Bay pumpkin patch. As we were about to pass Livermore, we saw signage and oodles of fun happening for G&M Farms so we pulled off. There is so much to do here! You can grab a red Radio Flyer wagon and truly go hunting for the perfect pumpkin within the patch itself, or if you're on the hunt for more smaller pumpkins/gourds there is a whole gift shop/farm store that is so incredibly cute for basically every pumpkin vibe you can imagine. Plenty of spots to stop and take pictures with friends or family. There's a corn maze, drinks/snacks like mini donuts, popcorn, and corn dogs, and speaking of corn..oh-em-gee! Truly wanted to share a review for this reason alone. Looking for a sensory activity for your little? There is not a sandbox, but a giant CORN box for play. The adults also tried it (essentially we just put our feet in and it felt surprisingly really nice. Something unexpected and truly unique, fun, and interactive. We also noticed a few other activities on the pumpkin patch side like a tractor/train ride and I'm not sure if there was a petting zoo? Regardless, worth a trip if you haven't made your pumpkin haul yet. Plenty of room for strollers and very spread out. Can't wait to make the corn box an annual tradition. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and resourceful. We had such a great experience that we're already looking forward to coming back next year. Safety Opportunities: While our experience was wonderful, we did notice a few areas for improvement in terms of safety. The pathways leading to the cherry trees could benefit from some maintenance: trimming weeds, filling in potholes, and general upkeep would help prevent potential trip hazards and make the paths safer for families.

With a couple food trucks in addition to vendors, I've found this to have the most hot food dining options for those who go to the market to do more than shop. This market also has pretty much anything you'd need for a meal. One note, it is so popular that I've seen a tent and a food truck sell out before they close for the day so you may want to go early. There are a few benches that provide good seating, which can allow for taking this market at a bit of a slower pace than you might others. Only note, it can get extremely congested, as I feel this is one of the most popular markets in the Bay, if you want something more sprawling I'd suggest Old Oakland, but otherwise no complaints. Temescal is soundly in my faves!
