I must agree with the people who have complained. While Broms moving did have some decent people working for them they are not exactly 100% honest about their business dealings. We specifically asked for 100% replacement cost insurance on our furniture because we had had problems before in a previous move. Lynn Broms listened exactly to what we wanted and assured us we would be covered. When our furniture arrived, a family heirloom piece was smashed. The driver and his team acknowledged their guy did not pack it correctly and took photos, as well as noted on our paperwork. When the time came for repair we were offered a glue and screw solution, not 100% replacement, Not 100% repair to as new condition. I personally spent much time finding a repair shop that would fabricate a new leg for the chair they smashed. They denied the claim (which the repair cost was less than the insurance I paid 650 dollars) and Lynn personally then pushed me to the insurance company. Now the insurance company sent out a guy and we told him we wanted it repaired as new or replaced and he took the chair. What did I get back ??? Glued furniture. It does look good, but how long does Glue last??? no guarantee and I am stuck with a chair that is not acceptable and does not meet 100% replacement coverage as Lynn quoted and promised. I have waited 4 months to try to see if they would resolve this claim, and to date I still have another broken item, as well as a glued chair. STAY AWAY. DONT EVER BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY !!!! I had to reschedule the move due to not being able to close on the house I am buying I have explained why it being pushed back to the lady she stated it was ok and let me reschedule. Now that I have to reschedule not only did she say I cant reschedule anymore but she is keeping my deposit. There was no specifications on the amount of time you can reschedule or guidelines for keeping your deposit. I am very disappointed. read more

I'm really satisfied with the job W.P. Broms did for my move this month. They helped move my mom's stuff from a three-story town house to a two-bedroom apartment. The three movers were friendly, efficient and did a great job. They took apart a giant La-Z-Boy reclining sofa and love seat, and put them both back together at the apartment. They wrapped up the wood furniture, worked with some awkward furniture with care, made sure everything was done before they left us, and just did a generally good job. They were a few minutes late to arrive (super minor -- only mentioning because of the next part), but they did not count that time for the hours worked. They went over the scheduled time, but that was because one of the sofas was too big for the apartment, and they had to haul it back out, put it back on the truck and move it back to the town house! There were NO complaints about that unplanned pain in the butt from the movers, and I really appreciated them going out of their way (literally) to return something to the house. The movers were skilled, they were pleasant to talk to, they were ethical, and I think they did a great job. I'd definitely recommend them. read more

That is a total lie. We waited 9 days until they sent someone to put our furniture together. We wanted them to revarnish the varnish the varnish they scraped off our stairs our stairs, all they offered to do was take a pen and color in the scraped off varnish. This was totally unacceptable. The stairs need to be revarnished. They scraped the varnish off every stair going up it with a broken dolly. The person Lynn said she paid to come and put our things together was one of the movers who Broms driver hired locally the day before. He talked nonstop, told us he broke his back and smoked pot every day to self medicate. He was the one that scraped the varnish off our stairs in the first place and said it was because Broms was using broken equipment.He never showed up to put our things together. My complaint is that they destroyed the finish on our stairway all the way up our stairs. The varnish needs to be sanded and reapplied. All Lynn Broms would do is have the repairman to color the chipped off stairs in with a marker. This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional. We have since discovered numerous items damaged as we un-packed them including a stereo, a karaoke machine. Save yourself a lot of expense and avoid these movers. We ended up paying to have our stairs revarnished out of our own pocket at a cost of $1200. read more

What a wonderful experience to use WP Broms to help me with a local move. I had a pleasant, informative and realistic understanding of my move. Lynn was very clear about my options and answered my questions as if I was a family member. I knew right then I was going to be taken care with the upmost care of my belongings. Lynn was very friendly in all of our contacts. It was the actual move and movers that we had severe problems with. First of all, the movers who picked up everything from our home in Chicago were angry and verbally abusive. Not to my wife, who was there alone with them, but to each other. They did not like each other, and there were complaints and accusations flying back and forth about who was and wasn't working hard enough, taking breaks, and so on. Even though none of it was directed at her, as you can imagine it made her very uncomfortable. They missed their stated delivery estimate by a couple of days, which they said might happen after our items were picked up. Things happen in the real world, so I would have been fine with that. At this point, I had a polite sales person and some rude moving men, and really didn't mind if the delivery would be a couple of days later. Then on the delivery side, I received a call from the movers asking for directions to my house from a particular interstate exit. I had just moved there, and did not know. I wondered why they didn't have that figured out first. Then when they arrived, there was more that they didn't know. Why was the lid from the piano removed by the packing crew, and where was the hardware for several items that they disassembled and then had to reassemble. I was again asked if I knew where these things were. Why would I know? And to top it all off -- nearly EVERY single item of furniture that they packed had scratches, gouges, or some other type of damage. Even the piano was damaged, and they are supposed to be piano experts. There was one reviewer here who gave them five stars for Lynn's personality, but admitted that they did not use her for the move. I was at five stars at the beginning. September, 2013: We moved from the city to the west suburbs. Called 1 month prior for estimates, this came out to be avg. price out of other typical moving companies like two men and a truck. My buddy recommended them and with their background and professionalism I figured I'll get what I pay for: 3 person family with 1000 S.F. of space worth of home goods - $1100, including $50 tips (3 great friendly movers) that I was happy to give. Nothing was broken, a minor scratch on a dresser (was pointed out to me) and a whole lot of work transferring floors and storage units. I couldn't just sit there and watch them move my home like a stingy onlooker, so I helped, and the movers were cool, and thanked me frequently. The staff at the office reassured me of my concerns prior to the move, took note of the precious cargo, and offered me free packing materials to pick up at their location if I needed. The follow-through with care and notes translated well to the movers as everything was prepared on moving day. The (family-owned business) service you can expect, with transparency and a reasonable price for great service. This is my go-to place. Thank you! read more

After another piano moving company basically ignored my request for a quote for a week, I found Broms off Yelp. I received a reply to my inquiry email by the end of the day, and had the move set up by the next day. Lynn was very friendly and prompt in setting up the appointment and very responsive to questions. I was quoted a fair price to move my upright (second floor to first floor move), and felt much better having it done by a crew that specializes in moving pianos specifically. The actual move went off without a hitch. Broms gave us a move window from 8-9 AM and said they'd likely arrive around 8:30. The crew of 3 arrived at 8:30 on the dot, and the piano was moved into our place (only 7 mi away) and all done by 9:15. The only complaint I guess I have is that I didn't get a confirmation call the day before like I was promised, but really since everything went off without a hitch I'm not really going to complain. I'd vote 3.5 stars. Good: 1. they came to our house for an estimate so that there won't be surprise in cost later 2. Good movers overall wrapping furniture carefully. Their office called during the move to follow up. 3. They can move pianos upright at a low extra cost Bad: 1. we feel that they spent too much time disassembling and assembling furniture to maximize the truck space but increase the billing hours. 2. Due to their wrong handling, a $300 hardwood desk was broken and unusable. We didn't buy extra insurance but this could have been avoided. After some nerve racking, stressful reasearching I decided on W.P Broms inc I live in New Jersey and needed to move my daughter from Wisconsin back to New Jersey. She lived in a one bedroom apartment so I thought no big deal I'll just call around and get the best price. Well this was the most confusing job I ever took on. I learned that you need to be smart and know how much you are actusllg taking don't estimate. I learned you can get a great price from a broker but that means you don't know who will be handling your belongings. A broker does just that he organizes companies to meet each other along the way and pass off your belonging so you never know who has it. Also if you check their movers rating they range from 0-2 and half the time not insured When I realized that was how they worked I went to a moving company that would do the whole job and this is where Broms stood out. They were best on price, honest and a family owned company. I worked with Lynn one of the owners and she handled everything professionally and followed up. Let's be honest no move comes without a few bumps in the road but it's how you handle the bumps that makes the difference I do recommend taking extra insurance because things happen and it gives piece of mind This was truly an easy move and as a mother of a young woman I felt very safe having her do the move on her own. I hired WP Broms recently to hoist some very heavy (more than 500lb) appliances and some large sheets of drywall (12') to my second floor via my balcony. Their estimate beat others by $600, because they used a modest, but entirely adequate to the job, hand-cranked Genie lift instead of the forklift or scissor lift that other companies proposed to rent, and because they used 4 men instead of the 6 proposed by their competitors. Arnie Broms also asked me questions that others had not asked - about whether it would be okay that the appliances were in place when I put the last coat of finish on my floor, about whether the sliding glass door could be removed if needed, etc. He seemed to take his time and really think things through more than other providers I had come to do estimates. The appliance hoisting worked fine with 4 men. The Genie lift tipped a little bit at one point, which I found a little bit scary, but the men kept control of the appliance throughout. There was also one small timing glitch - the drywall could not be hoisted on the day planned because it was raining - but Lynn worked with me to waive their 4 hour minimum and adjust their travel fee for a return visit, sending the guys over when they were already nearby so that it would work for their bottom line while also accommodating my need. The team gave a lot of consideration to how to safely hoist the drywall without any of it splitting. In the end it turned out that it fit up the stairs, but their approach gave me confidence that the drywall would have arrived on the 2nd floor intact whatever approach they had to take. I found Lynn to be reasonable and mature and responsive. Before deciding to hire the company, I asked about a negative review I had seen on Yelp, and she told me the situation in some detail. I felt that she did not whitewash it, while at the same time she pointed out where her opinion did differ from that of the reviewer. Her openness and calm in talking even about that potentially contentious issue reassured me that she would handle any situation that might arise on my job in a calm and reasonable way, as indeed was the case. I also found all of the moving staff to be friendly, and helpful and professional. I felt with WP Broms, that I was working with real people, who were willing to be transparent in their process, who would not try to jack up the price unnecessarily or to send out fancy equipment that was not needed, but who also would not cut corners. The company is a family business, and has been around for a long time, which I appreciated because I could tell how invested Arnie and Lynn were in it. We couldn't be happier with the way that Lynn and Arnie Broms and their staff handled a complicated cross-country move for us. They packed and loaded a lifetime of items from two locations in Illinois, drove them cross country, hired additional help in our new town, and unloaded in our new house. It was a huge move (8 hours to load) and our things were very carefully packed and organized in the big truck. Their packers, loaders and unloaders were careful, respectful of our things, and incredibly willing to pick up, put down, arrange and re-arrange as we made things work in our new place. These guys were great. I had a tough 1st closing. The day of the move, I was told we weren't closing. I literally freaked! All items in the house were I'm the truck. They stood by till I figured out what was going on. Leave the items in the truck or store!!! Lynn and all were extremely supportive on what was best for me. The guys were extremely professional and just tried to give me whatever I wanted to take the stress off me that day. 30 min later my lawyer somehow fixed everything! We were back on! Special mention to Vince and Jose. These 2 were the so hardworking and the best. Vince was the lead and again helped my family immensely during these stressful days. Basically the move went well. However, at least three of my boxes, containing very sentimental and precious items to me, didn't make it to my new house. Supposedly they were off loaded before the truck arrived at my location. That was almost NINE MONTHS AGO! Broms claims that they know where my boxes are (in someone's storage unit) but refuse to send anyone to obtain my items and bring them to me. I would have been better off using PODS. read more

I have moved many times in my life. Over a dozen times in all. As a result, I recognize great service and pricing vs. mediocre or terrible service and pricing. I give Broms 5 stars for their service levels, communications (always being available to answer any questions), follow-up (Lynn Broms demonstrated exceptional service), and for the way their final bill reflected their quote. For this particular move, I was coordinating it not for myself but for my mother. My mother hadn't move since 1970 and was very nervous about this. Lynn Broms and the entire Broms team couldn't have handled it better. They did the packing as well as the physical move. Their people are exceptionally polite, incredibly good at what they do, fast, and efficient. My job for my company is a CXO, which is a Chief Experience Officer. So again, I know exactly what good service looks like. Broms is it. I have no complaints whatsoever. My mother had accumulated decades worth of belongings. These belongings included sensitive to move objects such as a piano, a grandfather clock and dozens of music boxes. The entire Broms team put me at ease, as well as my mother, and my other relatives too. I feel good about picking them for this move and I would not hesitate for a second to pick them again. I highly recommend Lynn and her team. In my opinion, they are the best I've ever dealt with. Believe me, that's saying a lot. Expensive, slow AND they lost one of by boxes. Lynn Broms herself has indicated she believes I will eventually "find" the missing box. This is yet another example of her ability to discount valid complaints. Broms picked up, stored and delivered my furniture/boxes. I observed one of the workers on the pick up crew repeatedly pick up a box, put it down and pick up something else. He also spent a full five minutes in the bathroom. When I asked that this worker not be reassigned to the delivery crew (I explained why), I was told that Broms had "never" received any complaints about him previously. I would NEVER use this moving/storage company again. read more

Broms was horrible. Moving from Wheeling to Elmhurst seemed like fairly straight forward task. Nope, it took over 4 hours and cost over $1200. We had three guys, one older, one in his late 20s, and one kid probably 17 or 18 years old. They were HORRIBLE. I think I did more work than they did, no joke. The older guys smoked a cigarette probably every hour. The kid did the most work! It wasn't like we had a ton of stuff either. Do NOT use. read more

After having a horrible experience with our last move we were very skeptical. Lynn came to our home and gave us a quote that was pretty much what the move ended up costing. Phone calls were returned within the day. The men that were on my crew were amazing. We have a lot of big, heavy pieces of furniture and the move took 2 days. The trucks seemed like they were never going to empty, but the guys never stopped. They were courteous and respectful of the house, our belongings and to us. Moving is extremely stressful, but Broms did everything they could to make it a smooth transition. I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more

Terrible service.asked for five movers only got three.I was never asked about extra insurance.they damaged a cabinet and a stainless steel garbage can. They wrote a check for $33.00 they were slow it took them 10 hours to move a 1 bedroom apartment 5 miles away. read more
