I have medium-long hair and specifically requested a scissor cut. I explained that I only wanted my current style lightly trimmed and layered to remove some bulk and make it easier to style. During the appointment, the barber had his child with him and seemed fairly distracted, taking multiple breaks to tend to them. I tried to be understanding, but it definitely affected the focus of the cut. At one point I asked for just a small amount taken off the back since it was slightly longer near my neck. Unfortunately, too much was cut, and I was told more would need to come off the top to make it look uniform. More was then taken off the sides as well, again much more than expected. The end result is very uneven and honestly looks like a botched mullet. I normally never leave negative reviews, but this experience has been really frustrating. I've been wearing a hat because no amount of styling has helped, and now I'm basically waiting for it to grow back. It's unfortunate because I came in hoping to simply clean up my existing style.

The staff and the vibe was super friendly and inviting. The price wasn't too bad especially with their frequent visits program where you get a card and if you visit a number of times you get a free haircut. They also do hair washing there which was nice because you wouldn't want to head somewhere with flying hair all over.

At the time, he was close to where I lived. Since that time, he is now far from where I live and his availability and my work hours on occasion make it difficult to schedule...but he is worth it. Three things make him stand out better to me than any other person that has cut my hair: 1. I usually try to get a haircut every 5 weeks. I can give myself a fade on the sides (or at least, he is kind enough to not give me his real opinion!) But due to life and work, getting a regularly scheduled haircut isn't always the case. However, I feel like I can go a few weeks longer without my hair going native on me. It just keeps its shape. 2. Having straight, black, Asian hair, I've always had to use product to get it to lay down especially on certain mornings. As my hair got longer and more unruly, I would feel like I would have to use more product. Corey's haircuts almost require no need for product in my hair. Sometimes, I just use a leave-in conditioner to hold things in place or I've even just left the house with nothing in my hair on occasion. For me, this is unheard of since 7th grade. 3. I've always characterized the time after a haircut as occurring in 3 phases. The immediate phase when the hair is shortest, the "sweet spot" phase when the haircut looks sharp, and the end when the hair is too long and you need a hair cut. The "sweet spot" is the period where you enjoy the haircut. Where you look in the mirror and gleam at the high and tight fade. Where your hair is manageable and you don't have to think about your hair amongst the myriad of other things you have to worry about in your life. Corey's haircuts have the longest "sweet spot" period out of all the haircuts I've ever had. By far. Other than that, Corey is just a really good dude. He is easy to talk to and time just easily passes between us.

As a first-time guest, he was supposed to receive a complimentary $60 upgrade that included a haircut, shampoo, conditioning scalp massage, razor outline, aftershave massage, and hot towel. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in almost every way. His barber (a tall redhead) seemed rushed from the start. The session, which was supposed to be around 45 minutes, barely lasted 20 minutes. He had to ask for the shampoo and conditioning--which were supposed to be part of the package--and the scalp massage was quick and not relaxing at all. The razor outline never happened, the neck shave isn't even included, and even the hot towel had to be requested. For a "premium" service, the attention to detail and pampering were just not there. My husband left saying he could've gotten a better cut and experience at Supercuts in 15 minutes. I was glad I didn't load too much money onto his gift card because if the next visit isn't better, he definitely won't be going back. Hammer & Nails has a great concept, but the execution today was mediocre at best. Probably skip unless it's a gift card.

Honestly was ready to just shave all of it off haha. But JAC explained what he was going to do and why, and all the way through asked if it was something I was down to do. There were some times I stopped going and…read moretried other places as well but each time I've come back to them, the quality and experience was as good as, or better than the other places. Thanh and Caroline know me and what I like and give me the most consistent high-quality hair cut (I'm an 50+ man). I've had cuts by the other barbers there and it was a little more hit or miss. I like that they will include shaving areas around my ears and neck to make the cut look clean. Their shop is clean and they have always been very professional when I've been there. I am very happy with their service and I would recommend them for any man who would like a good cut at a good price.
