Great Mexican food, cocktails and very friendly and efficient guys behind the bar - friendly front desk staff The not so good: - two night stay, and housekeeping didn't make the bed or refill the coffee - water was lukewarm for the shower - as others have mentioned, the elevator feels like a roll the dice kind of thing - rooms are dated and the bed is dated but was comfortable at least and the rooms were clean - long walk to the room down eery hallways with Kermit the frog green walls - the old and noisy wall a/c units, and mine was like a disco all night with blue what looked like sparks coming from it all night... kept one eye open for that :-) I've stayed in a lot worse, but would only venture back to the restaurant part of the hotel. read more

Absolutely the WORST hotel I've ever stayed at in my entire life!!!!!!!! DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE or you'll regret it. Trust me - once you read the entire reason why NOT to book here, you'll thank me. I couldn't wait to check in and enjoy the pool the next day after a job opportunity only to find out that the Wyndham Garden Midland's pool would be OUT OF ORDER. I've never heard of a pool being out of order so whatever. After checking in, I had a long day of driving from Austin to Midland, I couldn't wait to take a long hot shower only to find out that the shower head/shower in general didn't work. When turning on the water, first of all, it never got warm or hot, but the shower head was literally spitting out water; I couldn't believe it as I had just unpacked EVERYTHING from my luggage so what a hassle it was to have to get back into my travel gear, had to walk to the front desk to ask for another room. The 'sucky' part is the room that I was transferred to a SMOKING ROOM; major ugh. Now all of my stuff stinks like smoke. It was hard to breathe during the night - when I left for my job opportunity, I smelled horribly terrible! The new room didn't have any lamps i.e. it was pitch dark so thankfully I had the old room key as I went back to grab the lamps for my new smoky room. Now here's the crappy part - I was starving but didn't feel like driving so I went downstairs to eat at the bar/restaurant and that was a nightmare. It was CRAZY LOUD - the music was so loud; I couldn't hear the young/child waitress. I asked for horseradish, and it was like I was asking for something foreign. She never returned, by the way. I had ordered a steak and shrimp plate with double veggies and as much as I love all of that, the flavor for all three was absolutely gross. What a waste of money. OH and in the second room, there was literally only ONE towel for my three day/two night stay. Really? I asked the front desk for more towels, and I swear they looked at me like I was asking for them to paint my hotel room. After a long day (second day), I asked for another blanket, and it took them 4 hours to bring to my room. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.....OH, I had asked for some fake orange juice from the breakfast area and the front desk person said, "that's only for breakfast" - I replied with, "REALLY?" - after all that I've gone through since yesterday (and then shared ALL that I went through), she said "Let me go ask my Manager" - I was stunned. She then came back and went to the fake orange juice machine, turned it on and poured me two glasses of juice. She just didn't want to WORK and help me, a guest of this hotel. DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE! Horrible customer service. Horrible smelling hotel and their pool was out of order. Unbelievable. Everyone I dealt with was slow, unhelpful and/or rude. I came here for a one night stay and it was terrible. The Elevator looked like one from a horror movie. The halls smelled like death. I walked into my room and laid down I was immediately rushed by bed bugs. I can actually feel them. I went to shower and the video below will describe the rest. It's not a 3 star hotel. It's a 1.5 star motel. It only gets that extra .5 because it has working elevators. The lobby was decent looking but don't let that fool you. It just gets worse from there. The elevators look like someone was trying to go for a "rustic" look by rubbing some stain on plywood boards. The hotel layout makes no sense and is more like a motel with the doors facing the interior instead of outside, and the rooms are a hike from the front desk. The first hotel room I walked into was so smelly with old cigarette smoke that I had to lug my luggage all the way back to the front desk to ask for another room. The sheets are changed every 3 days. I don't think I was there on a fresh sheet day considering my duvet had grape looking stains on it. The tub? Completely gray on the bottom with old stains. The sink would not drain. Bleh. Updated but not maintained! A $50 incidental hold is placed on your credit card upon check in which seems excessive for this quality of property. When 4 Star NYC properties charge a $50 hold, it's acceptable. This place.....uhh, NO!! For what?! The indoor pool/spa area is in the front of the hotel which is not very inviting as anyone needing to take the elevator would be walking through. I suppose they were expecting very tall guests as the beds are extremely high! I'm 5'7'' and still had to climb onto the thing! The towels are of cheap quality with stains. The walls are dirty. There was dirt or stains on the box spring covers and stains on the sheets and pillow cases. The pillow cases smelled horrible! The elevator sounds like it's about to collapse! The shower head came over on the Mayflower and had no pressure! I booked here because it was the only 3 star property that was reasonably priced. I now know why! Never again! read more

Just disgusting. I'm nauseated over the smell in my room. The pictures are nothing like the hotel. The "restaurant" is only open certain hours and for dinner you have to get food at the bar which is restricted to 21 and up and looks more like a trashy club (again, not like the pictures). The hotel is very dark. I couldn't even get my shower warm enough to my liking. I'm extremely disappointed and feel like I was mislead by their advertisements. This hotel was reasonably priced at $75 for a King room. The oil business has slowed in Midland so the hotels are starting to return to normal prices. The property is an older one, but it's obvious that a lot of renovations regarding the decor and furnishings in the lobby and rooms have occurred. The furniture is new and looks good. There is an indoor pool and a workout room, as well as a restaurant and bar area. The dining area and bar were pretty busy too, so they must have something going on. The elevator and hallways haven't got the full renovation treatment yet, but they are passable. My only issue is with the AC unit. It worked very well as far as cooling the room, but it would not allow me to set it to constant fan. So every time it reached the desired temperature it would cut off. Then I would hear people in the parking lot talking. Not yelling, simply talking. Very thin walls here as I was on the second floor. I would stay here again because of the price. Other hotels in the area were still asking $125. read more

IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE -100 STARS I WOULD BECAUSE THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN OR SUED OR SOMETHING!!!!! I GOT STUCK IN ONE OF THEIR ELEVATORS! I entered the elevator on the 3rd floor, and was trying to go the the 1st. I got in, pressed the 1 and it started going and stopped half way between the 3rd and 2nd floor... none of the buttons in the elevator were working!!!! NOT EVEN THE EMERGENCY ONES!!!!!!!! I pried the door open as much as i could to see where i was and that's how i knew what floor i was stuck on! Mind you, the temperature inside the elevator is like 80 degrees. i called my boyfriend who is in our hotel room and he comes and try's to help me out, he's pushing the buttons on the 3rd floor trying to get the elevator to come up and it's not working, so I called the front desk and a man answered and said "Can you hold please" and i replied "NO I am stuck in your elevator and none of your emergency buttons are working" he replied "i'll be right there"... Well, almost 5 minutes pass and no one has come from the hotel maintenance yet to help and i start panicking because this is literally my worst fear! my boyfriend at this point is panicking too because he knows i'm scared, he goes down to the 2nd floor by taking the stairs and starts trying to get the elevator working by pressing the buttons up and down and finally the elevator starts to work and i get out. We waited for the maintenance crew to show up to let them know i was out and they showed up 15 minutes after i called..... I'm mainly pissed because what if it was a little kid that got stuck and they had no phone or way of letting someone know that they were stuck!!!!! THIS HOTEL SUCKS! read more

My office booked me here after a terrible stay at a competitor just down the road. It was a nice respite from cigarette smoke and diesel exhaust coming into my room from outside AC units. That being said, there are a few things one should know about this place before booking an extended stay. One or two nights may be alright but I was here for over a week. The first night I arrived in my room I noticed a very strong smell, like someone had placed Stickups underneath the bed and in the AC unit. The smell was overwhelming so I turned the climate control to low to reduce the airflow in the room which didn't help much. As I had just showered at my previous hotel I put my things away and hopped straight into the bed. It was comfortable with nice, large, fluffy pillows. I was pleased there was no smoke or exhaust fumes and tried to make the best of my stay even though the fake room deodorizer smell was still rather strong. Here is where is went south. At 2:00 am I got up to get a drink of water from the restroom sink. I noticed the toilet was clogged with water and shredded toilet paper. As previously mentioned, I hadn't even been in the restroom yet so I know I hadn't caused the situation. I immediately filled a trash can full of the hottest water the tap would provide and proceeded to clear the clog myself - it was 2:00 am and I didn't really want someone coming to my room and taking forever to repair a clogged toilet. Well, that didn't help at all. The water was now at the very top of the toilet and not draining one bit. I called the front desk and was told they would bring me a plunger. No thanks. I informed them what I had tried, which works most of the time, and didn't want to have to perform more maintenance at this time of the morning. I would like another room. At which point I was informed that they already had five reservations and only four rooms left. I told the very kind lady that I was already in a room and could not use my restroom and needed another room as I had to be up for work in just a few hours. After trying to talk me out of changing rooms she finally agreed to switch me. I know! I couldn't believe it either. This is where is improves. As my office always books hotels through third-party sites like Expedia, I've come to realize that doing so will get you a second or third tier room when it comes to quality of room. Since there were only four rooms left I'm assuming it wasn't a third-party booked room tier. The room was quite a lot nicer with no smell reminiscent of a truck stop restroom and the furnishings were in better condition and the lamps actually worked! In my previous room, the bedside lamp switch had actually been removed and was unusable. Now we come to the noise levels. Doors! Slamming Doors! At all times of the day and night! Why can hotels not put soft close hardware on their room and exit doors??? It is so irritating to be awakened at all times of the night by slamming doors and this place is one of the worst! The housekeeping staff was cleaning rooms on my floor until 9:00 pm one night and they must have slammed the doors at least 100 times! I hate to say it is a bad place to stay because it isn't. You just have to be prepared to deal with the issues that will definitely arise. Hope this review helps some travelers to make an informed choice. read more

I've stayed here a few times over the last couple of years. The hotel is dated, but their customer service is pretty great. They have a restaurant on site and the food is yummy. One of the nights I stayed there, they had live music in their bar/lounge - it was a great way to decompress and relax without straying far from my hotel room. My boyfriend and I stayed here during a snow storm after getting in late from delayed flights. We wanted something affordable and decent. The hotel ended up charging us an extra $100 with no explanation. Found out later they charged us a smoking fee. We do not smoke. I have asthma, I detest smoking. When I spoke to the manager and explained the situation, she said there was nothing she could do about it. Not even an attempt to make it right or listen. She was very cold and stubborn. Not customer friendly at all. She told me that the housekeepers are the ones who make the executive decision that somebody smoked. Not even management. When asked what evidence showed I smoked, she said it could be anything from "a slight smell of smoke" or "windows being left open." This is considered "evidence" at the Wyndham Garden in Midland. So if you stay here don't leave your windows open or you might be charged for being a chain smoker. Would've stayed somewhere way nicer for that extra $100. Don't waste your time here. read more

The hotel is older, far pricier than competing hotels. It borders what has to be one of the worst neighborhoods in Midland. The hotel hallways are dark and gloomy, with malfunctioning elevators and locked stairwells. When checking in, the desk clerk was pretty rude and apparently they require you to keep a credit card on file for "incidentals" that they could not even tell me what those incidentals were. There were no snacks or drinks in the room, so I can't imagine what the $50 "Incidentals" charge was supposed to be for... Breakfast was served from 6:30am to 10:00am and was not complementary. It was also not very good. The rooms were not as spacious as expected, but were comfortable. In my case, the window overlooked a dumpster with a desk and office chair beside it where, presumably, hobos would gather to get their taxes done. The bathroom was small and the shower was pretty short... So don't go being tall in there. The air-conditioner-while it did cool-sounded like someone was running a welding machine. The pool seemed nice as it was inside. But when walking through the pool area, the chlorine smell was so strong it should be banned under the Geneva Convention biological weapons clause. Plus all the pool furniture was in the water. Good times must have been had. Overall my experience at Hotel de la Muerte was less than good, but slightly above bad. If I ever develop a drug habit, this would be the place to stay. read more

Terrible hotel! Unprofessional, non-helpful, and mindless staff! This place is a total joke! I had booked with them a week before my business trip to Texas. They never confirmed my reservation via e-mail as they were supposed to do. Instead, they had the audacity to charge my card anyway. Followed up on the charges with a clerk who had told me that he will credit back my account, but never did so. In conclusion, I had to open a dispute with my credit card company. Room was very comfortable, clean and had good air conditioning. Late check in took a little longer than I would have liked after 11hrs driving and I found the $10/per person buffet breakfast to be ridiculously overpriced given, with exception to omelet bar, is what most hotels offer for free. The omelet cook was super unprofessional border line yelling across the room to a guest about sports and saying "shit" several times. we were like is this really happening?!? other than that, comfortable for a quick night stay. read more

this place doesn't look like much if your headed west bound on business I 20/ wall street, then the hotel sign is blocked by a billboard. its away from the road with a parking lot, but you still here the running traffic. Now, I've had a few incidents that need to be addressed. 1st is reception. I've seen 4 different receptionist since I've been here. each has their positives and negative as far as having customer relationship skills. it varies, unfortunately. so far, I've asked 2 of them my status on the rewards program and they give me blank looks. since I applied right T the front desk during check in, my 1st time here. well, that's still ongoing after 4 days. . .when holiday inn does it right then and there. a bit of confusion on turnover I suppose from shift change since I extended my stay with the 3rd shift receptionist. it happens. I will even let the cleaning crew slide on trying to enter to clean the room. what is inexcusable is when you have to tell the day shift receptionist what 3rd shift did or just look on the the computer for an update versus asking the customer. . .seriously? -3 stars minus one star for being woken up with loud cleaning staff shooting the breeze when I am trying to sleep. minus one star for the server that tried to disturb me as I was clearly praying. plus 2 stars for the comfort of the room plus 2 stars for the breakfast even though you have to ask for certain things that should be readily available. plus 2 stars for location plus 2 star for Decor, having a restaurant/bar inside the hotel, and an indoor heated swimming pool/jacuzzi read more

The hotel is pretty nice but the service is awful! Breakfast is a joke and not kidding they have buffet style with food that's stuck to the bottom of the pan. The "waitress" basically was annoyed when we walked in and we were unsure how the whole situation worked. I think her job was just to get ur drinks since u could get those your self. I got one cup of coffee and she never said another word to us. She kept asking the other guy what time it was so she could pull this huge rope across so other people couldn't get in and also didn't offer to move it when we were leaving. Not a bad place to stay. They have a nice swimming pool. The rooms were clean along with the common areas. They just need to produce some real food here. The burgers at the bar are pretty good but they're only open for a limited time. The breakfast that comes out of the cafeteria, however is just mediocre. Be careful where you park your car here. Will definitely be reporting this site to their corporate office as well as the department of health!!! -Sheets never changed(i had to call the front desk wait for them to come up and stay awake and watch them change my sheets as they were not being changed) -given 1 towel daily -would not bring a toothbrush to the room stated they dont deliver to the rooms -2nd bed had a nasty either blood or feces stain(reported this only to recheck it a week later and nothin was changed but bed was remade to look like it was) -like clock work every 2 or 3 days had to reset my key to enter my room -Tried getting with a manager midway thru my stay, no one ever called or checked back in to see if anything was being handled -cleaning staff continuosuly were loud in the halls (i actually had to ask them a few times to keep it down as several guys were sleeping after working the nightshift) OVERALL A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! This is an oilfield town so I was not expecting the Ritz Carlton but this was RIDICULOUS and they need a overhaul IMMEDIATELY! Midland is a mess with hotels. Wyndham is a good hotel everywhere else. In Midland it is not so great. My room was dingy- not dirty, but not really clean. The halls had actual trash in them for the whole time I was there. read more

This is one of the mist disgusting hotels I have ever stayed in! It smells bad, and I'm pretty sure they don't clean at all. I guess if I could come up with anything good, all I could think of is that the bed was made when we got in!! We were here for the Turkey Shootout, and had a block of 8 rooms reserved under my husband's name, with his credit card on file. We booked a week in advance, but when we arrived, they didn't have him in the system. He told them it was for the shootout, and then they finally found his name. They had given our rooms to random people we didn't know also here for the shootout. The lady at the front desk started naming off people who took our rooms, and proceeded to tell us if they didn't pay, it would be charged to his credit card!!! There were 114 empty rooms still available, but it still took them 45 min to figure out what to do to fix it!! I swear I better not get a single charge on our credit card from anyone they gave our rooms to. So after the ordeal at the desk, we come in to the nastiest hotel I've ever stayed in!!
