Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. It was raining pretty hard and my friends and I waited for about 20 minutes since this deal was for the first 150 orders. I got the spicy miso tsukemen and added chashu and green onions! We also got the kaarage and the portions were HUGE! I definitely recommend grabbing the mayo. I liked how umami the broth of the tsukemen was. However, the temperature of the broth changed very fast! I would love if the noodles were a little hotter so the dipping doesn't change the temperature and if there was a bit more chashu. We went here on a Saturday for lunch because on their social media page, they were having a 50% off deal for any Tsukemen dipping style ramen. We arrived before the store opened, but there were already about 30 people ahead of us forming a line outside. (I didn't think people were this dedicated to 50% off deals, but I had committed too, so I'm just as guilty.) Once the restaurant officially opened at 11:30 am, they started letting people inside. It still took about one hour before we officially got seated. There was disorganization letting people in, because although there was already a line formed outside, the staff let people who scheduled online also come into the front. Some of these people who scheduled online were also waiting in line, so we didn't know which one had priority, nor did the staff seem to know or explain. Reasonably, a good number of confused customers waiting in line got upset and double-booked an appointment online and in person thereafter. The restaurant is relatively small, considering the enormous line outside. At the time, the air conditions/fans were not working, and this was on a very hot summer day. I'm not sure why they didn't leave the door open for some ventilation, but I also feel bad for the kitchen staff since they would feel the brunt of the heat. The waiters got our order quickly and we got our food within 10 minutes, despite the hectic and busy event. We ordered the pork deluxe Tsukemen. The serving size is gigantic, so it was definitely worth the price, plus it was 50% off. The broth wasn't as fishy as expected (compared to some of the ones in actual Japan. I know, not really a fair comparison.) Summary: - CLEANLINESS. Clean, compact tables. All utensils are placed on the table, so you don't need to flag a waiter. Disorganized seating system for this large event; however, I am sure this was a one-time case because they weren't prepared for this large outcome. - COSTS. $ Affordable. $22.75 on normal days. But this day was 50% off, so it was well worth it. - CUSTOMER SERVICE. The staff was quick and friendly. Just the beginning seating arrangements made a lot of customers upset. - FOOD QUALITY. Ramen Akimoto is owned and operated by a Japanese chef who trained in Japan, and you can truly taste that authenticity in every bowl. What sets this place apart is their chicken based broth, rather than the more commonly found pork bone broth. Their chicken paitan (鶏白湯) is rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful, but with a completely different aroma and taste profile than more commonly seen tonkotsu broth. Out of several dozen ramen shops I have visited so far in SoCal, Ramen Akimoto is by far my MOST FAVORITE PLACE to get my noodle fix from. Despite their location being not at all convenient from where I live or work as it takes me at least 35-45 minutes to get there, I GO THERE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. What makes Ramen Akimoto so very different from all the other shops you can go is evident from the very moment you step into their restaurant. You get greeted by an enthusiastic chorus of IRRASSHAIMASE -- the English equivalence of welcome in Japanese. The staff here are VERY friendly, patient, accommodating, and detail oriented. For example, I once wanted to get a takeaway meal for home. Akina made sure I was able to submit the order towards the end of my meal to ensure warmth and freshness of the to-go meal. I didn't even think about doing such a thing until she had offered. I thought that was so thoughtful of her. She and Abbie always makes me feel right at home during my visit as does Masa-san, who is absolutely delightful to have buzzing around inside the shop. I also love watching Mr. Akimoto create all the meals right at the counter bar area. He is laser focused to ensure every bowl is made to the diner's specifications. Now the food quality aspect is just something else. And I mean that in a good way. On Mondays you can get wowed and blown away by their Jiro Ramen. You get special Jiro Ramen only toppings and everything dedicated to the crafted meal. You can order miso ramen as well but the Monday menu is tailored specifically for everything Jiro ramen related. The regular size is huge and large is actually way too much in my opinion. I always marvel at the towering bean sprouts people ordered for their toppings as there's no extra charge for it. Same with eggs and all other items. I get secondhand embarrassment watching others shamelessly order everything with extra free toppings just so they can take it home and eat it as 5 separate meals with a price of one. The portions basically THAT gigantic. I could only hack through just some of the bean sprouts and some of the noodles. The hint of ginger and punch of garlic is just OMG. The chewy noodles are also OMG. In fact, every bite I take never gets old and OMG for me. I hope you get my point by now. The appetizers are delectable too. I especially love their spicy karaage and chewy but crispy gyozas. They're dangerous to eat because both will hit your stomach like a ton of bricks and by the time the noodles arrive, you may be too full to eat any of it. The shop is closed on Tuesdays. But from Wednesday through Sundays, you can enjoy their regular menu fares. I love their spicy mazemen and can't wait to try their curry flavored items next. They also serve wonderful chashu bowls. It is absolutely delicious. Unlike many other places, they use whole pieces of sliced chashu. Not some chopped up dry leftovers from when they sliced their meet up. Their set menu is also great value where you can pair noodles with small bowls of rice meals. Lastly, the parking is free, Tesla superchargers are right in the same parking lot, they take Amex, and limited outdoor seatings are available. The ambiance is lively and service quick and perfect. Did you know that chef Akimoto began his career at Minami Ikebukuro Taishoken in Tokyo under Kazuyo Yamagishi also known as the "God of Ramen"? I was recommended to try this place out by a friend who said the tsukemen was just as good as the ones he had while he was in Japan. Hearing that I just had to make the trip out from OC to find out. They are located in a big plaza with plenty of parking spots, and the interior of the restaurant has ample room for dine in. They offer many different noodle dishes like Ramen, Tsukemen and Maze Soba. Today I really wanted to sample their karaage and tsukemen. I ordered their regular Tsukemen which was about $15, you can add additional chasu and toppings for extra charge. I thought the texture of the noodles and flavor of the broth was excellent, it had a strong flavor for being a chicken broth with a touch of yuzu which I really liked. The Karaage was also excellent, its crunchy and juicy and if you order the spicy version its even better as it comes with a kick. The ramen selection contains a little bit of everything that a ramen lover would want, the price points are very reasonable, and the taste is above average. I'll definitely be back. Chicken Paitan Ramen: It's not what I had in japan but it reaches the same flavor milestones that I want in a ramen broth that tries to mimic the essence of tonkotsu but through chicken. The noodle was good and the toppings were all great. Tsukemen: The regular portion is a bit on the smaller side where you'd still have more than enough broth by the time you run out of noodle. The soup is a bit on the thinner side compared to the tsukemen that I'm familiar with. The broth is closer to a tonkotsu ramen consistency but it's fine. The chashu was solid and the broth offered 2-3 taste profiles as the meal progressed. Can recommend but get the large. Chicken karaage: Top 5 karaage that I've had in a restaurant. Top 2 in terms of size. I need ALL chicken karaages to be this size. Service: I missed the dinner rush so the staff had no issues keeping up with those dining in. This place is located directly next to Bodhi coffee shop on Yorba Linda Blvd just east of Lakeview. Arrived here just after 12pm on a Monday. They have the Jiro ramen only on Mondays and I had no idea what that was. We ordered one regular $17 (large is $20 and gigantic) and also ordered a miso ramen. The jiro ramen noodles are totally different. They are a darker brownish colored wheat noodle and thicker than regular ones. It has a nice chewy texture. We opted for no garlic base since some reviewers said it was really strong. They give you a choice to choose fat back in the soup to make it extra rich and also a choice for more or less vegetables. The charsiu pork in this soup is also different than the miso soup. Omg it's so tender, juicy and flavorful. The fat on it is so good and the pieces are thick. Whereas the pork on the miso ramen is thinner, your usual charsiu pork slices, which is more lean but not juicy like the jiro ramen pork. I loved the texture of the thin noodles in the miso ramen as well. The soup base had a garlic taste to it and was accompanied by the bean sprouts and bamboo type vegetables. We also tried the smaller order of the chicken karaage, which was 3 pieces of larger sized pieces. Not small, like your typical karaage. There was lack of flavor so the mayo based dipping sauce helped. Service was great and the lone waitress did a great job in serving, seating, and billing the customers all by herself. Cute spot and cool history facts on their wall! Straight forward service, average speed with food coming out. If you ask for extra veggies, the veggies are just bean sprouts. There is a lot of flavor in the broth and the chicken is super tender! I was impressed! Only thing is the broth was too salty for me. Boyfriend thought the saltiness was perfect. We came on a Monday and they only had miso ramen left. If you go on another day, there will be more options to choose from. :) read more

Small ramen spot that took over J San a little while back. Located in the shopping center where blue agave and brio ortho is. Parking is limited during the busy hours but not horrible. There's two small tables for outdoor dining and about a dozen small tables inside with a couple barstools to dine in. Menu is limited with 5 different ramens and a couple rice bowls. Ramen issue of chicken broth that has a nice rich flavor. Egg, fish cake, bean sprout and chili oil are available with an up charge. Staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Overall a good place to satisfy your ramen fix but will not replace my go to spot. read more

5 stars for the JIRO RAMEN. That is on a whole other level. And the reason for why we came on a Monday because they serve this specific ramen only on Mondays. Also, love the japanese old school diner feel with the bar and stools. Just like in Japan! It's great. Heard this place is an actual chain from Japan? It's amazing. I messed up and ordered the regular miso ramen instead with pork chashu lol. It's good but not that good compared to Jiro. Luckily my husband got it and ordered correctly. Wowww it was unami heaven with every bite, from the bean sprouts to the cabbage to the broth, the jammy egg and thick, bouncy noodles. We should've piled the sprouts high like what we've seen in pics (extra veggies, we just got regular)! The small pork cuts were so soft and melt in your mouth fatty.....so good. I made my husband give up his ramen to me hahah. I did love my miso ramen's chashu though. That was also tender, equally melt in your mouth pork. But the harmonious bowl of ramen broth was still the Jiro. And their gyoza was fine. The chicken karage was supremely crunchy and juicy meat! I will be back to try the chicken ramen and tsukemen!! Tsukemen is typically my favorite type of ramen. Everything with the small sides of 3 gyoza and 3 karage pieces, the iced green tea, came out to about $50. Pricey but the $17~ ramen was worth it!! I was so busy eating, I forgot to take pictures. It has been a while since I was fully satified to give a five star-rating. The service was wonderful, they accommodated us in their closing minutes, and food is very good! Not overly salty broth so you dont feel super heavy after eating, chewy noodles, tender meats. We also got the karage which was tender and flavorful! Chicken chasui beats the pork chasui here, it is not dry at all. I recommend the chcken over the pork. I love the food and will certainly be back. read more

I think this comes second behind santouka as my most favorite ramen in the OC. Authentic cooked just right ramen with super flavorful broth and perfectly made seasoned par boiled eggs. Will come back again for sure for my ramen fix. read more

Location / Located in a plaza where there's plenty of parking. Restaurants itself is cozy and has nice Japanese decor. Service / Awesome! You order through a paper that you check off and circle - makes it really easy. Food / Hands down one of the best ramen spots in YORBA LINDA. I don't live too close but I would make a drive! Everything is made to order. Ramen broth has a strong umami flavor, chashu was thinly sliced and tender that melts in your mouth, seasoned egg was jammy just the way I love it, noodles had a great chew, and among the other toppings was a great addition. They have a house special garlic topping (that's on the dining table) and I highly recommend adding it to your ramen! Makes it 10x better if you're a garlic girly like me heheh. Chicken curry was also great! Big chunks of chicken karaage and plenty of curry sauce that pairs well with the hot jasmine rice! I would recommend anyone in the area to try this place out!
