We stopped in for lunch at the newly rebranded Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen, formerly Wicket Door Pub, and the experience was mixed at best. The space is nicely redecorated with a pleasant ambience, but the lack of customers was hard to ignore--we were essentially the only ones there during lunch hour, which never feels like a great sign. We went straight to the bar for a beer, but the selection was limited, much like the former establishment. The menu was unique, but the pricing felt high for the area: appetizers over $10 and entrées over $20, with no lunch menu available. We ordered the Oxtail Sandwich and the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. Both had good flavor, but the execution missed the mark--the sandwiches were soggy, likely from too much sauce in the meat. Nothing stood out enough to rave about. Service was accommodating but not particularly memorable. Overall, this felt like a one‑and‑done visit. Second time here and love it again. Delicious drinks and extra points for how pretty the Bob Marley Grenadine was. My friend and I shared the Pit Sampler, but it could easily have fed three people. It was a great deal at $48 - skewers, ribs, chicken wing (1 large), and super yummy veggies. The presentation on a wooden board was nice. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals, except for the tropical burger. It was dry and had no seasoning. The portions were also very small for the price. Ambiance (4/5): This spot used to be Wicked Door Pub, but it's now Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen. There is plenty of indoor seating, lots of parking outside, and the Jamaican-themed decor adds a nice touch that fits the vibe well. Service (1/5): The service was disappointing. Our waitress was unable to take our order properly. This isn't about her not speaking English, but about the fact that she could not communicate or do the job effectively. She just pressed buttons on an iPad, nodded, and walked away. About ten minutes later, a man came over, apologized, and took our order while the original waitress stood nearby, staring off into the distance. He had to ask her three times to bring us waters, and even then she placed them randomly instead of handing them to the correct people. We waited about an hour for our food. When it finally arrived, only four of us got our meals. The fifth person was just sitting there confused. After five minutes of waiting, I looked over at the owner and said we were missing the burger. We found out the burger had been sitting under the heat lamp. This was our first visit to this awesome taste of Jamacian and Peruvian fusion! Trust me that you will not be disappointed in their food options. We stopped to see if there were and Keto or carnivore diet options and they fixed our dinner with care and concern as well as the seasonings from their areas! I couldn't say enough when a restaurant goes above and beyond for us. My husband ordered the Tenderloin Lomo Saltado and I had a small salad with a delicious homemade dressing with no sugar and a 1/2 rack of dry rub baby back ribs. For "dessert" you have got to try their café with cream! Service was over the top and once they knew what we needed, they delivered on everything. The decor was very nice and the sounds were just enough to hold a table conversation easily. We recommend this place as a nice option to the regular American food! I recently visited Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen, one of Ashburn's newest restaurants, and I'm so glad I did! Jamaican food is such a rarity in Loudoun County, so I was excited to see what they had to offer. The space itself is beautiful--spacious with plenty of seating, a large bar, bold artwork, and a stunning mural that immediately sets the vibe. Although I ordered takeout, I couldn't resist staying to try a few Jamaican patties--rib, beef, and curry chicken--along with a cocktail. The presentation was on point, my drink was refreshing, and the curry chicken patty was hands-down my favorite. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating--making sure I left satisfied. What makes me even more excited is everything Xaymaca has coming up. They host a weekly happy hour that features one Jamaican patty and a wine flight for just $10 and other food and drink options. Stumbled upon this new Jamaican - Peruvian fusion place as I went for a haircut nearby and saw they took over the old wicket door pub. Very nice layout! The food was very good. I got the pesto pasta which was a spin on lomo Saltado - and yucca fries. What a find! Peruvian-Jamaican fusion, a delicious combination! The staff were very friendly and started our meal off with complimentary snacks, plantain chips and crispy corn. The ambience is great including little lights on each table and good music. We started our dinner off with a couple of patties, oxtail and jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was our favorite. Perfect level of spice. Next we ordered some jerk wings and the curry chicken roti plate. Both were excellent. I especially like the combination of chicken curry with pumpkin/corn stew. The sweet and spicy went so well together. They put cilantro on their chicken curry so if you are cilantro averse, like my husband, make sure to request no cilantro. Our host--whose name I unfortunately didn't catch--was very attentive and kind. The food was good, and we're already looking forward to coming back to try more items on the menu. The peas and rice taste like they cooked it in dish detergent liquid. It had a very odd soapy taste so I did not finish it. The wings were not seasoned and bland without the sauce. My experience at Xaymaca was outstanding!. We are Peruvians and my cousin went to try it first and then invited us and I have to say, I had the greatest experience from the second we walked in through the door until it was time to go. The service was phenomenal, the waiter took the time to explain a little bit of the history behind making a restaurant with a Peruvian - Jamaican fusion. If we didn't know one of the dishes, he would explain it to us to make sure it was something we would enjoy. They even had a dart game that we were able to play while we were waiting for our food to be prepared, and if we hit it in the center, our food was free. (None of us won but we had so much fun) I had the oxtail which was to die for so exquisite. My cousin had the Lomo Salado with the pesto pasta, which was phenomenal overall all of our dishes, including the ceviche, which was different than the traditional Peruvian ceviche but absolutely delicious. We enjoyed every second we spent in this restaurant and we strongly recommend recommended. read more

this was one of the worst experiences my family and i had at a restaurant. We came in and we were super excited to try this restaurant. Immediately we were greeted by the owner who I recognized by the article he was featured in. I said oh my gosh are you the owner and he paused didn't look at me and said depends and walked away. My heart sank. Afterwards it was down hill from there. Throughout the entire hour and a half we were there we could see him yelling at his staff and getting angry and flustered. I had to track down our waiter to put in our food. We could see other tables getting up and leaving and one table was waiting 30 min for their check. The patty sampler that we ordered never came out. The yucca was so dry. My mom couldnt even eat her skewers because she said they were that bad. The picture that i provided was how we left the table. I told our waiter my mom and sister didnt like the food and he just said ok and walked away. The oxtail burger that i ordered was ok!There was so much more that happened. I personally will not be recommending this place to anyone i know and i wouldnt come back here :( super disappointed! read more

We were excited to try this new Jamaican Peruvian fusion since it's a unique offering in Ashburn. Unfortunately the experience left us with mixed reviews. The good: - friendly greeting by the chef/owner (I believe). we were seated fast and we thought it was a good sign of things to come. - the Vibe was awesome! Reggae playing and a bit of an island feel. - Food: overall was really good, with the exception of the coconut rice. we ordered ceviche, Rasta pasta and lomo saltado. as well as plantains and they were delicious. Needs improvement: - Service: this is where it falls apart. we didn't know who our server was. no one came to our table for nearly 30 minutes despite there being only 2 or 3 other tables of diners. We actually had to flag someone down. the bartender? (maybe) eventually took our order. they seemed extremely understaffed. It seemed like it was just the owner, the bartender/server and a server/runner who seemed like she struggled communicating and was afraid of customers. - Timing: it seems like the food comes out randomly. the app came our pretty quickly with the side we ordered which was odd. but then one of our dinners came out 2 minutes later. the chef/owner asked how everything was and we had to remind him that we had ordered another meal, which came out 5-10 minutes later. - Coconut Rice: this was part of the lomo saltado, the second dish that came out last. the rice was just really old, very dry and didn't taste like coconut. this dish comes with a fair amount of sauce but the rice clearly had been days old since the sauce didn't soften it at all. we were wondering if it was old or uncooked. I rounded up my review to 3 stars. But really it is more like 2.5. I am hoping the hiccups are just because they are new and they need to work out the kinks. I want to give them a second chance because the food (minus the coconut rice) was really tasty. But may not return back for a few months to see if they improve. read more

I came in with a group of eight. The restaurant was empty. However, our foods arrived one at a time. My food came out when everyone was almost done with their dish. My pasta dish tasted like something I could've made at home and it was not even hot by the time they brought it out My drink was a total of five sips for $14. I made the mistake of bringing some food home for my family to try. The ribs tasted like they were not even pork. I had contacted them on a Saturday late morning ordering 30 items for a Jamaican themed cocktail party that evening and I would need to pick up the order by 3pm. The owner and staff committed to have my order ready despite my short notice and I learned that were catering a huge event in DC also that day. When I arrived to pickup my order, I apologized for being 15 minutes late and their response: "You are the customer, do not apologize, we want to ensure you are happy with our food and service". The staff was so welcoming and friendly. I have shared with friends and our guests of our party my experience and highly recommended this restaurant. What a total surprise. Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen offers Peruvian and Jamaican foods that are identical to the local foods we have eaten in Peru and Jamaica. The jerk chicken was delicious and my wife said her Peruvian ribs with marinated pineapples were authentic as well. Both owners came to our table and chatted with us about our travels, their restaurant and their nationality. The chef is Peruvian and the other owner is Jamaican. Both men were absolutely delightful. The restaurant has some great touches with artwork from both countries and a hand-painted mural on a large wall that accurately portrays the many beautiful sites in Jamaica we have visited. Also, a big shoutout to our young Peruvian server. She was super attentive and shared how she came to the United States when she was just 10 years old. We saw so many offerings on the menu that we did not have an opportunity to try, but after this visit, we told both owners that we will return often. read more

Food was excellent! 5/5. While waiting for our order the waiter brought roasted corn kernels and yuca chips to chomp on. A nice touch. The jerk chicken a la brasa was delicious and well seasoned with some tasty sauces for the yuca and well fried plantains. To me, it took Peruvian chicken and jerk chicken to another level. The curry goat with pumpkin and roti was also good. However, I would have preferred more roti skin (like a thin soft and tender pliable flatbread) than basmati rice. The roti skin eaten with the curry goat was a nice compliment - wished I could have asked for more. Their coconut tres leches dessert was something to return for. Overall this place is my new Caribbean restaurant with interesting historical vibes, like the Xaymaca name which I was told was the original name for Jamaica along with the fusion of the Peruvian food and culture. Worth checking out for happy hour as they sometimes have steel band or live bands playing, dinner, lunch, or a group gathering. The place is big enough and seems like it could handle any event with their wine nook and specialty mixers from their bar. Service 5/5- from the host to the waiters, very attentive service.
