Comcast is a complete disaster for Internet access. Like many of you, I want to have Internet access from home. It's 2009. That should be doable. Personally, cost was a very low issue for me. I was wiling to pay. I just need reliable service. I selected Comcast and I have regretted it every since. My internet goes down at least twice a month. It takes forever to get through to someone on the phone, who is invariably incompetent (what competent person would work there!?!?). About once a month they come out and fix it for a few days, before...it's down again. After almost a year, it's still work working reliably. I ended up having to get a back up service (Sonic...which is great and a great company). The phone service is terrible, too, so I just use my cell. So exactly why would anyone use this? The costs are really high, the quality of the service terrible, the support dismal. I went 10 years without cable, before trying it again last year. I have been a Comcast cable customer since I moved to California more than 10 years ago. In November of last year, I transferred my services to a temporary apartment prior to moving into my house. I lived in the apartment for 1 1/2 months , then transferred my service again. They never billed me for the month I was in the apartment. Today I discovered that these assholes sent my account to collection. They know where I live (I'm still a customer in good standing) why did they not call or write and tell me I had an outstanding balance? Hello DirectTV. Suck it Comcast. Please karma gods, smite me not for what I am about to do... They've been fine so far (2 months). The installer is off the Xmas card list, for sure, but when I called back to complain that he hadn't installed what I'd ordered, they put me on the line with the same salesperson- impressive personal connection- and she straightened it right out, so that what she'd said was what they did. And I waltzed right down to the office and picked up my HD box. With free HD service for a year. The online help- the only kind you get- is confusing. I had to call them to set up an e-mail account, which is silly. Printing a little booklet just can't cost that much. IMO, AT&T has a much higher Nazi Quotient. Hate those guys. This is the first time I've had any TV piped in, and it's been nice, is all I can say. read more

Death to Comcast! We should have a march, or burn down their headquarters. From beginning to end, Comcast has made me miserable in every possible way. No show-appointment, endless wait and RUDE customer service, ripping me off, lying and wasting my time. To top it off, their service is awful. It breaks down more often than it works, and I can't trust my home Internet for any type of work. I found out there's an option for the Bay Area called Astound. I'm not sure if they serve my area, but if they do, the happiest day of my life is still ahead: when I get to call Comcast and tell them I shall never need their "services" again. Okay, I was going to spell out ALL of the problems I've had with Comcast in the last few weeks (I moved from SF to Oakland, so mainly my complaints are with Oakland Comcast), but I don't have enough space. here's an abbreviated version: They have failed to help me with an error message I keep getting when i try to order pay per view. i think they've set my PPV for $0 (i researched the problem on the web and this seems to be the answer) but they claim it's my box. They failed to bring me an HD box while they were coming out to set up a phone jack; I asked 3 times, and they confirmed 3 times, that they would bring me one. Service guy shows up with zero knowledge of this request. When i called to complain they had the audacity to tell me, okay, we'll bring you one but it will cost you. THEIR MISTAKE. hellz no, i'm not paying i said. she ended up telling me she'd credit me $20 if i go get it myself. I go to get the HD box today, set it up, and can't order PPV still. when i call, they say the person at Comcast gave me the wrong box. so i ask for them to bring me a new one. they say, okay, but it will cost you. THEIR MISTAKE. hellz no, i'm not paying, i said. he said, okay. I just know i'll get a charge on my bill and will have to call customer service again and it will be a nightmare. AND, i was disconnected twice today while trying to get them to fix the PPV error. twice. and it wasn't my phone. customer service FAIL. how can so many things go wrong with a very simple request and error message? Comcast manages to make mistakes and then offer to "fix" it at the customers' cost. Unacceptable. How do you put 1/2 star on this thing. And that 1/2 star represents the service guys themselves, because they seem alright. UPDATE: ONE WEEK LATER. another FAIL. they brought me a HD box that has problems with the sound. One office for all of San Francisco with insufficient staffing (many with poor attitudes), so frustratingly long lines and waits, often an hour or more, with the torture of listening to loud Comcast commercials over and over. Machines for payments often broken, forcing you to wait in line. Avoid if at all possible. Otherwise try to get there before it opens in the morning. read more

I am giving this location 5 stars for service. Many people bitch about Comcast in general here but that is not the purpose of this specific listing. I went in this past Saturday, March 15 at 4:30. There was about 30 people in line. The four people working behind the counter helped people on an average of 1 person per minute. By 4:00 I was at the counter. Along the way I heard a little bitching about Comcast but nothing about poor customer service. The person at the door helps to keep people from jumping the line so customers don't have to do it. All of the people working that day were very plesant. I had a problem when I got to the counter as a phone rep had told me I could exchange my modem but they don't carry that model in the store. I calmly told the person how frustrated I was and he gave me a different modem to get me back online until someone could come out to swap my original modem. He also offered to get me a sooner appointment. I did not feel like the location was "ghetto" nor did I feel unsafe. read more

First of all, the Comcast web site is horrible to navigate. It took ages to get an answer to a simple question: Where is the Comcast service center located? Second, having been laid off I'm looking to cut back expenses wherever I can. Having had Expanded Basic cable service for 8+ years, I thought Comcast might be willing to work with me to continue service with them. I called and ask if there is any way to work a deal with them on my monthly fee so that I don't have to downgrade to basic cable. The service rep on the phone said they have no promotions available. My only option is to UPGRADE AND ADD FEATURES SUCH AS PHONE AND INTERNET. I don't need phone or Internet. I'm trying to cut back on expenses, not add to them. So, I downgraded to basic cable. Comcast is a monopoly and can negotiate with customers on price if they want to. They could have offered a 6-month intro rate to keep me on expanded basic if they had wanted to. But, no. They'd rather alienate long-time customers. When I'm back to work, I'm doubtful I'll upgrade again. read more

I spent a couple weeks researching options for internet and cable near downtown San Francisco. I ended up going with Comcast and I'm very happy with the choice. First off, screw having someone install your cable and internet. Simply go to this location during business hours and you can get everything you need with a self install kit. So instead of paying $50 for a home installation that you'll have to schedule a week down the road you can drop $20 and have your home connected in an hour or so. Most of their bundle promotions are based on a two year contract which I wasn't interested in so I went with the internet/cable double play 12 month promotion. I pay a little less than 90 for the first 6 months and a little less than 110 for the next 6 months for: - High speed internet with rented modem - 100+ HD channels with HBO - HD DVR system which is awesome It's not cheap but it's easy, reliable, and provides great entertainment. It is what it is but I'd definitely recommend Comcast service if you can swing the cost. And hey avoid the installation headaches by going down to Petrero Ave, the line was short and the Comcast rep was actually a real nice guy that didn't try too hard to up sell. read more

I came in here to exchange a faulty box that Comcast had sent me in the mail. I arrived around 1PM expecting a long wait, and entered the store to find out that I would be 25th on the waitlist. I had some other errands to run in the dreaded Potrero Shopping Center, and the guy at Comcast told me I could get a text message when it was my turn to be seen. I ran up to safeway to grab some groceries and returned in 30 minutes but didn't receive a text message...when I went back into the store, my name was no longer on the waitlist, and the guy who had added my name was MIA - now there was just a security guard taking names down in their system. I told him what happened, and he really was no help at all and told me I could put my name down and wait all over again. He said, "Yea, your name was never added to the system, so you'll have to wait." At this point, I was pretty frustrated and just went up to one of the people who actually deal with customers behind the counter. He told me he could help me right away, and was able to proceed with helping swap out my faulty box, and even apologized for the text message system that, "Seems to never work." COMCAST MANAGEMENT - the man who helped me was an Asian man working at Station 10 on 3/31/2015 - he was extremely gracious, nice and helpful. Please take note of this, as I misplaced the form to give him a good review on your website. Other than him, everyone else I dealt with was incompetent and unhelpful, which really was no surprise at all. I dread coming here, and can't wait to end my comcast subscription in May. read more

COMAST'S ERRORS DAMAGED MY CREDIT SCORE. STILL NO APOLOGY. I moved apartments and my service. Comcast gets the apartment number wrong. Despite the fact that I'm on autopay, I get a call months later saying I'm late on my payments. I discover the error in apartment numbers and tell them to fix it. They don't. Same call soon after. Same lack of solution. I visit the Comast store and tell them in person. They are still unable to fix it. Then, I get a call from a debt collection agency for not paying a Comcast bill for an apartment I've never set foot in. I revisit the Comcast store. They promise that the damage to my credit score will disappear "after a cycle." That was months ago. ***I'VE FILED AN FCC REPORT. IF YOU'VE BEEN ABUSED BY COMCAST, I SUGGEST YOU DO THE SAME.*** Bottom line: It took Comcast 6 months to figure out where I live and where I don't live. And, it will take them probably just as long to repair the damage they've done to my credit. P.S. Did Comcast ever apologize for their litany of errors? No. Did Comcast ever offer me anything for the damage they've caused? No. Did Comcast even give me the product I paid for? No, despite paying for the highest speed, there were MANY times I could barely stream a YouTube video. read more

She was soooo nice to us. She tried to understand us and explained all the details and answered all questions clearly. When we came back home, we still couldn't get any services. I wish there was something less than one star. These people are criminals, and it should be investigated why the Board of Supervisors has given them a virtual monopoly in the city of San Francisco. Here's what happened to us: We ordered cable, phone and internet for our house. TVs in two different rooms. Phones in four different rooms. Pretty typical set up for an entire house. We had been getting our TV and phone from DirecTV and AT&T without any problems. We put in our order to make the switch, with Comcast setting the price for our whole bundle. But when the work crew came for installation, they refused to install as promised. Two TVs??? OMG - more than one phone??? They acted like our home was some sort of bizarrely unusual request. They would only install one phone and one TV. For any thing else, we'd need multiple accounts, which (of course) would not be included in the price of the bundle. It didn't matter what the customer service reps promised us - they refused to do it. We fought and argued. This was a classic case of bait and switch. We filed complaints with city and state regulators. None would help us. Instead of getting the savings of the bundle, the best we could get was the installation of Comcast in one part of our home, and the rest still wired with AT&T. Savings? There was none. At one point, when we refused to budge in our complaint, Comcast sent a crew over to slash the phone wires at our house. Even then, our wonderful government agencies called it "an honest error" and refused to punish Comcast. Don't do business with Comcast. Shame on our city leaders and state regulators who allow the company to cheat and bully consumers. read more

I was on hold for 20 minutes waiting for a customer service technical support Comcast. Finally the representative came on the line and was working on the problem (they said), and put me on hold while doing that. I specifically made clear that if the (landline) call disconnected would they please call me back. They said they would and then they didn't call back! The problem was not solved. I then started the whole thing all over again--the same exact thing happened all over again. Long holds to get a rep, and then while the rep worked on the problem. Asked them to promise call me back if we got disconnected. The rep assured me he would. Then the call disconnected, and no call back! The problem still not resolved. If there was a viable alternative service, I would switch, but I feel trapped with Comcast. Grrrrrrrrr. read more

I hate you Comcast. I think you are consciously defrauding customers. I call and ask about upgrading to a certain configuration, and they say it costs $69 total. I call back after getting my roommate's approval, and now they deny that price is offered and say that I can pay $80 for that. I ask to speak to manager to get original price. He denies that the $69 is possible, and says it is $100. I say I thought it was $80; he denies this even though the person quoted it 5 MINUTES AGO!! I ask to speak to the original person again, but his "shift just ended"!!! Comcast tries to screw its customers with artificially high prices, because it knows people have no other real alternative. Okay, need to revise. While the service location was fine, I have a separate review for the mofos as a business. I cancelled everything and returned everything on January 4, and they proceeded to charge my credit card $120 on the 15th, after I had paid all charges that were due on the account. I called up, and stated my dilemma, and was told, "It's okay, since there will be a zero balance on the next month!" Uhhhh no it's not OKAY, mother fucker. Then when I got upset at this information and requested to talk to his supervisor, he said "that's not a reason to talk to a supervisor." EXCUUUUUSE ME?!?! I have my own reasons I'd like to talk to a supervisor, thankyouverymuch. Now I'm sitting on hold, for what's been at least 5 minutes. Its hard for me to give a good review to Comcast because half the time I think they're the worst company in America. I set up TWO appointments to get cable/internet/phone service set up through their website and through the phone. The first time they canceled without informing me. The second time they inform me that I have to come into a location set things up. You think you could have told me before setting up the first appointment?! How about telling me you canceled the appointment so I don't have to take a half day to wait for your stupid service. So this is review is not about Comcast the company because there aren't negative stars offered on Yelp (would that be black holes?... they deserve a multiple black holes if that were the case) This review is for the Comcast store on Potrero and 16th. I went in having extremely low expectations. Stood in a pretty efficient line for 15 minutes. Errol, who looked like he was barely old enough to own a drivers license helped me out. He was nice, prompt, and efficient. He hooked it up with a deal that was better than I was hoping because at that point, all I wanted was Internet (Comcast was the only provider for my building) and was going to go with other companies for other things but he got me phone and Internet for cheaper than I was expecting to pay for just Internet alone. His computer started to freeze up (I don't blame him for that... Comcast probably put a hex on that shit too)... so he was working pretty diligently and and offered to call me when with the rest side details if I had to leave. I did. He did call.... and now I have Internet. It took Comcast 2.5 weeks to tell me they COULD NOT set up my service. I go talk to Errol at the store for 10 minutes and I'm good and done. Hands-down the most absurd cable experience I've had in my life. I called on Saturday to cancel my service. Well, as luck would have it, when you click on the "downgrade service" option, that line just happens to be "experiencing technical difficulties....please call back later." I call again today, and oh my, same message! I sent an e-mail on Saturday and the response said I needed to call. Hmmmm....this is getting perplexing. After this crap, I follow a link to an IM chat with a Comcast customer service rep. Well, this chap tells me that he'll cancel right away. After talking to him for about 25 minutes, giving all my personal information, etc., he says, "You will need to go to your local Comcast center to cancel." Yep, after 25 minutes. Fortunately, I copied the entire exchange. I was considering just downgrading my service, but I've never felt so deceived and taken advantage of. As a result, I will cancel my account and write 528 letters per month to president-elect Obama. read more

I'm getting consistent speeds of 30mbps or more and uploads of 10mbps or more. Not understanding all these negative reviews. True, I've never had to deal with customer service beyond the initial setup, so if I did then I might have a different opinion. Bait and switch. When I moved up here two years ago, they said they were soon rolling out DVRs, and they said I would not have to upgrade to digital cable and would just have to pay for the DVR service. Sweet; I signed up. So when they called me to tell me that DVRs were available, I said sign me up. They said absolutely...once you make the mandatory upgrade to digital cable for $13.99 extra a month, plus the DVR monthly fee. Oh no you di'in't. I had no problem with paying a monthly fee for the DVR. But don't tell me I don't need to upgrade my service, get me to subscribe to Comcast, and a year later tell me I do. I told the woman on the phone that this was classic bait and switch, and she said "well, that's one way to look at it." No lady, it's the only way. The next day I bought a Tivo off of eBay. Screw you, Comcast. And I promise you that my next apartment will face southeast so that I can get satellite and be done with you forever. A grudging two stars only because the guy who installed it actually showed up right at the prescribed time and, unlike most installers, didn't give me the impression he was casing the joint. read more

I'll compress all of the other reviews.....Comcast sucks. However we all send them a check every month because Comcast sucks less than our other options. Sure we can all switch to satellite (or at least most of us) and save a bit on our monthly bills, sure Tivo is a better DVR, but when there is only 1 primary option (until the AT&T service which everyone is waiting for and waiting to complain about rolls out to your hood) we're all stuck to deal with it. The good news, if you have the time to call them and complain they'll give you billing credits. At least you can reach a customer service rep unlike calling AT&T wireless. So while the service may suck it would suck less to not have internet and to be stuck watching TV where the only signal comes from an antenna. read more

I can honestly say Comcast has given me excellent service compared to my former dish service. Now I noticed that a lot of people were complaining about comcast on their reviews. I have to address some issues that were brought up. 1. Complaining about waiting for a 4 hour window. -- Just to let everyone know that the competition has a 12 hour window. 2. Complaining about Bad picture from cable box. -- Comcast is only responsible for signal coming from the outside of the residence to the side of the house. Internal bad, old, chewed by rats, or just outdated cable is the customer's responsibility, even though the technician will try their best to fix it for $19.00 or for free. Competitor's technicians charge $125/hr and $75/hr after the 1st hour. If the cable box is replaced and the problem persists, its very possible that you have bad internal wiring. Comcast does not build houses and install the wiring inside homes. I just wanted to let reviewers know what the facts were. I know it sucks when the cable goes out and its so easy to blame Comcast or the Technician, and not easy to blame your own home's internal cables. Oh, I almost forgot - Comcast has NO contracts, so if you don't like it - GET OUT. read more

Did I get lucky? Everyone seems mad at comcast. I love them. I got a great deal, $30 for 6 months of digital cable with free HBO for a year. Before, I was paying $60 a month for non-digital. So i went to Comcast store to pick up a cable box with no problems. Easy and simple. Yes, their phone service sucks, but going to the store was cool with me. Go on their website, and click chat with a real life customer service rep. It is a lot easier to do that than call them. I just hung up after 10 min of no response. I pay $43.95 for lower speed internet (still faster than DSL), basic extended cable (with VH1, MTV, BET, Bravo, The Food Network, etc.), and phone service (with 12 calling features). I'm guessing that most people get stuck coming on weekends & it's busier & then they're tired & grumpy. I walked right in. Smiled gave the person my name & was called within seconds. I can on a Tuesday at 10:30. This is key. You want to deal with your phone, your internet, your car, your doctor on the peak times at the busiest day? Course not. Before you cast judgement in your cable provider try making an appointment on your date book, an early lunch or pay your babysitter to go for you on a weekday. I was here to exchange a box & my name isn't even on the account they didn't care. Do find a student or someone to outsource this errand for you & you'll be happy happy happy. read more
