Cautionary tale to anyone considering basic + service with Comcast Cable. Comcast heavily markets their high definition service. But you should know that with basic plus service ($60/mo.) you will be given a Motorola DCH70 cable box. This is a standard definition device which is not designed to display a 1080 wide picture on your television. So if you have a wide-screen LCD television, only a 720 wide image will be displayed. (You can confirm this by running a Google search on the box model). I spent a couple hours standing in line and installing the box before I figured this out. The next day I took it back to Comcast and they said a wide-screen conversion box would be an additional $8/mo. What's interesting is I can hook up the cable directly to my Samsung 32" LCD and get the wide screen format from TV stations which are broadcasting in HD. The channel numbering is all screwed up (e.g., your favorite station may now be 82-6) but it works. I can easily afford the more expensive service, but I refuse to spend (as many do) over a thousand bucks a year for cable. Get Netflix for $15/mo. and you can stream all the movies you want. If you have cell phone service with AT&T you can get DSL-only service (no telephone) for $32/mo. Its time to REALLY degregulate cable service so there's more competition. read more

My exhibition of greviances with Comcast *Item A* Their customer service people lie. They're not 1) upfront about charges 2) helpful when trying to resolve disputes. In my most recent dealing with Comcast, we were told to upgrade to HDTV would only be $8 per month, without any other mention of other charges. Later, I discover we're being charged $30+ more because unless we only want network channels in HD (I don't care about HD American Idol. Sorry.) we had to upgrade to "Deluxe Platinum Members Only" cable. Deceiving! *Item B* Service outages. It's hard to get them to admit to service outages or to get decent compensation for not having cable\internet. I'm sorry, but $5 is not going to solve my week of poor internet connectivity. And i'm not going to spend 45 minutes to try and get it. *Item C* Service guys. They've gotten better about actually coming, but I still have recent experiences of them not showing at all. *Item D* Customer service store. Not helpful at all. They claim they can't make changes to your acct, refunds, comps, etc but I really doubt it. The solution: 1. Cancel all your Comcast accounts. 2. Get mobile broadband with a supported router OR DSL 3. Buy an AppleTV and budget the same amount you would spend on cable towards buying shows ($40 ~ 20 shows) 4. This is a great Comcast Location. The line was long but there were a lot of customer service folk working so we only waited about 5 minutes. I don't know why people give this place such bad reviews, because I had no problem at all taking care of the problem I came in to solve. Worst company ever. I am looking for a new provider as soon as my "credit" runs out with them. I never write reviews on yelp, but after this morning's phone call I had to vent somewhere. Me: "No one ever mentioned you were going to charge me in the first place for that agent, nor did you mention any fees when I signed up. I will pay you 41.13 which includes tax. What is this, like an activation fee? " "Exactly it is an activation fee" Me: "You just ignored everything I had to say and said yes it is an activation fee. I never agreed to pay one, nor did I agree to pay for that technician to show up. Furthermore, you double charge me for a technician." "Oh, yea we did double charge you, ok I'll remove that" ... 5 minutes go by "Alright sir we've removed it off of your account." Me: "What did you remove?" "The double charge" Me: "Well how about all those random 15 dollar charges" Eventually... "Ok we've given you a 30 dollar credit, you now owe [some obscene amount still]" Me: "So I'll pay that and everything will be fine." "Yes" 1 Month later "Sir you owe $132 dollars" Me: "Why?" "Oh well because a service technician came out and you owe some other fees" Me: "No you guys said that you "forgave that"" Them: "oh, so we did, ok hold on.... You now owe 41.13" Me: "Ok good" ... 2 weeks of collection calls, in which they all ended with me saying that it has been handled Me: "You guys said it was all good, why do you keep calling me" (and finally the reveal) "If you don't pay us now, we'll cut off your service tonight at midnight. You have a delinquent account. You need to pay us the full amount then we will refund your 90 some dollars" Me: "That is ridiculous, I didn't pay right away because that isn't what I owed. I got you guys on the phone and then you said I owed 41.13 after you fixed my bill and now you are demanding another 90 dollars" "Yes, will that be credit or check." At that point I thought, they can go screw themselves, and I was just about to cancel my account. They wanted me to pay the amount they owed me, and then they'd credit my account. Those first 2 bills that came in said I owe 200+ and 100+ each when my bill was supposed to be around 40 dollars. There is no where to turn to though. If I cancel my account, what choice do we have. It isn't like at&t is much better, and satellite from what I hear kind of sucks. I am trying to find an alternative now. Okay, here is a review I've been NEEDING to do for the longest time. So here it goes..... The COMPANY Comcast is one of the most UNORGANIZED, UNDERTRAINED, INCOMPETENT company I've EVER dealt with. 1st example: When my boyfriend and I first moved to SF, getting the account was easy. Call, they give you a shpeal about how they have some stupid promotion going on and you are getting a really "good" deal ( but in reality 6 months you will be paying an assload of cash like a sucker). Then we were going to move to the Inner Richmond. I called, explained how we were moving and wanted to change the address and have it be active the day we move in. Called, seemed as simple as giving some numbers and a street name and that was that. Well, luckily we noticed that place wasn't as good of a deal and changed our minds to continue our search for a new apt.---- So I called before the service would have been switched to the new address, and told Comcast that I wanted to keep my original address in service.------ Then one saturday morning (the day we were supposed to move) I woke up without cable.----- I thought "that's funny.... I thought I called and explained......" I called to state "I called last week explaining that we weren't moving after all, why is my internet not working?".... they asked me for me for my account # (which I didn't have handy) and they pulled it up for me. For some reason MY OLD ADDRESS FROM THE EAST BAY was on file and effective. I HAVENT LIVED THERE FOR 4 YEARS, HOW COULD THEY SCREW THAT UP!?!?!? Okay, it's not the WORST thing in the world, but it's quite ANNOYING that they can save my history and toy with my service plan.---- Oh ya, and I forgot to add.... I had to talk to about 5 different people to get to that point. 2nd example: We finally found a baller pad and once again I had to call Comcast to switch my address. This time, everything switched over right. HOWEVER.... for some reason we couldn't make our account private so we had to leave it "open" in order for it to work. I called them to ask them why the connection wasn't working wirelessly. They said that everything was working on their end so it must have to be a problem with the router itself. I decided to bring it into this store and switch it out for a new one to hopefully solve the problem (note: it was the same one, brand: netgear). The problem was STILL happening. SO, we called netgear and asked them what was wrong. They were only able to give us support until a certain "limit" (those pieces of shit) otherwise we could sign up for 24/7 service for $45 bucks a month..---- So what did we find out after calling back and forth and sorting out the miscommunication?? BOTTOM LINE: Comcast gave us a netgear box that we registered to SOMEONE else that still has their password on it (which was why we couldn't change any settings to make it wireless and locked). DON'T THEY CHECK TO MAKE SURE ALL OF THE INFORMATION HAS BEEN WIPED CLEAN BEFORE THEY GIVE IT TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER!?!? SO ANNOYING AGAIIIIIN. Am self-employed and work from home. Stupidly decided to make the switch to Comcast Business class service...only to find I've entered the rabbit hole. Now mind, you, the business class Internet and phone hasn't even been officially installed yet (that's set for tomorrow) but the pre-installation set-up has been nothing but a mess and now I have a knot in my stomach that after installation, it may not get any better. Here's what's happened thus far: 1. They started with shutting off my Internet connection and pushing some install file to me. You'd think they would call me first that this would be happening. So, I try to go thru the install process only to find an error msg. I call--they said "oops, our bad" this wasn't supposed to happen. We will turn your residential Internet service back on. Well, it's back on but it hasn't been the same, as my wireless network is worse off than it was before. I am hoping that Biz class gets better and am gonna make sure that the tech checks everything before he leaves. 2. All of a sudden, they disconnect my telephone service. Spent all morning racking up my cell phone bill talking to them and going thru their stupid troubleshooting steps. I kept telling them it's not my phone and that something is wrong on their end. And I was right--after insisting that they get a tech guy out the same day (despite my svc migration will happen tomorrow), the error was on their end as how they set up my accts--overlapping and duplicate accts has caused errors at the telephone switch. No phone service for me until tomorrow's install. Now mind, you...I am running a business and yet they don't seem to understand this or care that my business is essentially down because of them. 3. My residential cable TV package has also gone awry--why I don't know, but I have seemed to have lost my Starz/Encore channels. URGH 4. Meanwhile, did you know that if you migrate from Residential to Business svc that their internal computer systems don't talk to one another and that you will be bounced like a ping-pong back and forth when you have issues like mine? I can just scream. 5. The acct exec that handled my sale is equally as lame. After a cursory conversation with him and his eagerness to sign me up, no follow up calls from him despite my calling him several times and leaving him many emails. Oh, family emergency...then now family member is ill...hmmm, pardon me, although I am sympathetic of your personal problems, you, sir, are not an independent contractor. You have the standing of one of the LARGEST MEDIA COMPANIES behind you. If you can't handle your business, for God's sake tell your supervisor and get some back-up. Don't leave your customers hanging and exasperated. No doubt my saga will continue, and I am already very sorry that I've gone down this road and can't turn back cause who knows where my phone number has been ported to. BUYER BEWARE: FOR THOSE OF YOU EVEN THINKING OF MIGRATING TO COMCAST BUSINESS SERVICE FROM RESIDENTIAL...MAKE SURE YOU ASK THEM: 1. What is the migration process and get detailed steps as to what happens and how they dismantle whatever residential package you have. Make sure you double check with them. 2. Each time you speak to them--get their employee ID number and phone number cause a different person will tell u something different to get you off the phone and off their back 3. Make sure the sales exec is held accountable if there are any screw-ups--and find out if there will be any compatibility issues like will Skype work on Business class Internet or will your Apple Extreme modem work, etc. Stupid me thought that it would work cause all this stuff has been working with their residential stuff, but now after searching the Internet (cause I am pissed), am finding out there may be issues...again, stupid me. read more

Their underhanded price gouging and terrible customer service pushed me over the edge and I decided I'd take the loss for breaking my contract early. I tried to cancel service to get att because comcast has been extremely frustrating and shady. They told me I had to wait 11 days for them to cancel my service. This seemed ridiculous so I asked to speak with a supervisor and the woman told me "sure a supervisor will be in touch with you in 72 hours". Thank gosh I never integrated my cable + internet with Comcast. I've just cancelled our cable b/c our bill keeps increasing and for no additional value. Luckily we still have internet through a different provider and can stream movies/tv shows through Hulu, Netflix, etc. and for much less $ each month. If we had linked the two, we would be constantly challenged with having to deal with Comcast's poor service model and rising prices. For instance, now that we've cancelled our cable - we need to return the cable box. There's only one service center in SF. Since today is a Martin Luther King Jr. day, I thought I'd try to call to make sure they are open. No phone number anywhere online except for the general 800 number for Comcast. And hold times are more than 10 minutes - just to find the hours of one of their service centers. Such a simple thing that they can't get right for their customers. I can sympathize with the staff enough to realize that it must be mentally draining having to deal with a wide variety of customers. Hello, I'd just like to see if anyone else has had as awful a customer service experience recently as I have with Xfinity Comcast. I realize this is going to look very long-winded, but I've just had it with this company continuing to provide awful service, charge exorbitant amounts and waste hours of my time: 1. I moved into a new apartment and called to order cable/internet service. The rep told me that the previous tenants for my apartment had not yet cancelled their service and I would have to wait until they cancelled to order mine. He told me to try calling back. I called back three more times in the next few days and got the same response. Finally, on my fifth call, the woman acted surprised that the other reps would not set up an account for me and proceeded to set up my account. 2. I went to pick up my equipment at the service center and took it home to install it. Of course, nothing was working. We called the tech support line, and the rep could not fix it over the phone. He said they would need to send a technician, and the only time they had available was noon-2 p.m. the next day. Luckily, we were able to arrange for a friend to be there at that time. My boyfriend got a call at 10 a.m. saying the technician was at our house (2 hours early). When my boyfriend said he wasn't supposed to be there until noon, the technician argued with him, but then called him back and said he would be there around 1 p.m. He arrived and fixed our problem, and finally, after over a week of issues, we had working Internet and TV. 3. I got my Xfinity bill in the mail last week, and there was an extra $50 charge that I was not expecting, attributed to "failed video install." No one had said anything to me about charges for the technician coming out to fix our broken equipment, so I figured it was a mistake and that I would just call them to have the charge taken off. This morning, I spent more than 30 minutes on the phone with a representative who continued to argue with me, saying the charge was valid because there were broken cable wires in our apartment that Comcast apparently did not install. He told me that the last time Comcast service was installed in that apartment was last year, even though the reps originally told me there was still an active account when I moved in. So, the reason for the $50 charge was because the technician had to fix the broken cable wires, and those were not Comcast's responsibility. After wasting a bunch of time on the phone this morning, the rep still would still not remove the charge from my bill, which no one had ever told me I would be charged for. I told him I thought this was terrible customer service and I was extremely unhappy, and of course, he didn't really seem to care. I think Xfinity Comcast needs to listen to its customers and learn how to make them happy. I've seen countless complaints about the company online, and now I understand why. read more

I got their TV and internet. I had a modem already and didn't buy theirs. When I tried to register my modem, they claimed it was registered to someone else. I said that I could prove it's mine, I had the receipt. Hours on the phone talking to techs and "supervisors" yielded no help and they finally told me that the only way to fix it was to visit the physical Comcast office. The supervisor told me that they could not call their customer that it was registered to in order to verify it was not theirs. I went to the physical office and stood in line. After I explained what happened, they told me that I had to call the help line. I told them that they told me I had to come in but she insisted that I had to call in. So, I dialed my cell phone and began navigating the phone system and she told me to step aside so she could help someone else. I insisted that she was not done helping me and had to talk to the people on the phone to work this out. I had already paid and "service had begun" a couple weeks prior and I was paying for it but had not received any connection yet. She asked me if I wanted her to call security and I said in surprise "you have security? Yes, call them" . I wanted to be dragged out after never being given the service I had already paid for. It would wrap up the lawsuit nicely. Her answer was a lie and threatened to call the cops. My response was "who is competent in this company? How can help me? " and looking at her boss that she was then huddled next to, I asked "can you find someone competent enough to fix this issue because I've paid for a service that I'm not getting." I eventually left and called to cancel my account. Guess who can fix things! The person that cancels the account. Eventually it was fixed but with all the dropping of connections to kill my MMORPG connection, I canceled without an immediate back up plan to never look back. read more

I give them five stars because after I moved, I cancelled my subscription but had a remaining balance on my account which I was unaware of. I returned the box to the drop-off station and the bill actually went to collections!!! I freaked out and paid it but was super worried that it would affect my credit. You know what they did - they took care of the bill and even called me back to let me know that it would not affect my credit report. Who does that anymore? Where is the most depressing place on earth: The Comcast office on Potrero--it is where the living dead go to work. But this review is more about the shitty home service we have received and how the cable guy redoes my whole set up so then my TIVO and DVD player no longer work--then tells me: "Since you have TIVO, I cannot guarantee it is all hooked up correctly." I know I'm going against the majority here, but my experience at Comcast upon recently moving here was excellent. It was all due to a representative named Jon. The line was long, and I was waiting to pick up my DVR and cable modem for a self-install. I noticed that of the people working the counter, one seemed to be moving through customers at about 3x the rate of the others. What's more, he had several little plaques in front of him that I later saw to be customer service awards. Luckily, once I was next in line, he was the next person available. Jon set me up with new equipment, corrected *several* mistakes that some other Comcast employee had made over the phone, and changed the deal they gave me to a better one (12-month discount instead of 6), even mentioning that I could get Spanish channels free during that period if I wanted them (si, gracias). He made sure I had everything I needed so that I would be up and running as soon as I connected and fired up all the equipment. So I say to all of you who are forced to visit this branch: look for Jon! Nay, demand him! read more

Beginning of June: I paid my bill for May 18-June 17 I'm a college student, and since the school year is over, I needed to temporarily disconnect my service for a few months. June 13: I had an online-chat session with a Comcast representative about my situation. He told me about "Seasonal Disconnect." June 14: I went to the only Comcast branch near the university I attend and attempted to put my account on Seasonal Disconnect. The representative I spoke with seemed to have put everything in order. The process was quick (UNTIL I FOUND OUT THAT SHE ACTUALLY DIDN'T REGISTER MY ACCOUNT FOR SEASONAL DISCONNECT)! June 15-July 30: I moved back to the Bay Area and began monitoring my account. My bill for June 18-July 17 had been posted, but I decided to give the system some time to possibly refresh/update itself to the $5 I'm supposed to pay for Seasonal Disconnect. July 1: Went to Potrero Comcast to sort out the situation. Very poor customer service. The two representatives "helping" me kept running away to whereverthefuck and failed to communicate and clarify details pertaining to the issue. The representative helping me had told me that the issue would be cleared up in 48 hours and provided me with a ticket number. He also asked me for my email and phone number, saying that he would call me to notify me once it cleared. June 3: Came back because nothing had changed on my account. I'm almost 100% sure the representative who was helping me walked into a CLOSET of supplies and came back after "checking with the manager" that the issue takes 72 hours to process (JUST MY LUCK). June 7: IT GETS BETTER. Came back again in hopes to finally clear up this situation. The representative helping me this time decided to get the manager out from his office (WHICH I DISCOVERED WAS RIGHT NEXT TO THE CLOSET FROM MY LAST VISIT). My May - June bill had been prorated for half of the amount. I did not understand why because I have not used any of the internet for the month after leaving for the Bay. Not only that, but at this point, this May - June bill is overdue. When I asked the manager for a possible estimate for this issue to be cleared from Comcast headquarters: HE LAUGHED IN MY FACE AND SAID "I DON'T KNOW" NOT ONCE BUT 5 TIMES. AND for reassurance, I got a beautifully sassy "So you're just worried, right?" on top of a "Trust me, I've been here over 10 years--nothing's gonna happen to your account." Not to mention a "Don't worry, you won't be billed to a collections agency until your bill is 180 days overdue" from another representative. WHAT A RELIEF RIGHT? SO LET'S RECAP HERE: 1. I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I'M COMPLETELY, 100% ON SEASONAL DISCONNECT. 2. MY BILL FOR THIS UNUSED INTERNET IS NOW LONG OVER-DUE. 3. IT HASN'T BEEN COMPLETELY PRORATED. Why? Because I DON'T KNOW. When? I DON'T KNOW. 4. THE MANAGER LAUGHED IN MY FACE AND EVERY VISIT TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT LEFT ME DISSATISFIED. THEY ARE INCOMPETENT. 5. I'M STILL STUCK WAITING IN LIMBO... AVOID. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!! Comcast is known to have a monopoly and provide horrible service at high rates. In other countries you get 100x the speed for less than half the price. Plus their customer service is the worst thing ever! They will waste hours of your time, admit they screwed up, and do nothing to fix the problem. Avoid them like the plague!!!!!! read more

I went into this location switch my cable box to the new X1. I specifically asked them (twice) if switching my box would cost me anything and they told me no (twice). I signed the paperwork saying that I wanted to switch boxes. On my next bill I see that there is no charge for the box itself but they are now charging an additional $7.00 per month for a "HD/DVR Converter" fee. PLUS there was a $50.00 installation fee (when I told them I'd like to install it myself and they said that the only way to get the box was to get it installed, but said that I would not be charged for it). I am now on the phone trying to cancel my service but Comcast has hung up on me instead of transferring me to the cancellation department. read more
