I felt that Xi was very trustworthy. He gave me an estimate to fix my BMW X5's exhaust system. It was over $3k and he said that my car would probably drive fine if I chose not to do the repair. I decided to go through with it anyway. I took my car to several different shops and everyone before Xi told me it was too big of a job for them and recommend I take it to the dealer- which I really didn't want to do after my bad experience with them (see my earlier yelp review for BMW of Honolulu). My check engine light has been on on my BMW I three for quite a while. The options for BMW here island are sparse. Found Xi Tech on a Google search. My experience was exceptional. The owner met me prior to opening, promised me prompt diagnosis, and allowed me to go grab a coffee and a bite to eat. When I returned, full diagnosis have been done, and a complete explanation was provided by Roland, my technician. After thoroughly explaining the situation to me, the check engine light was reset, and they would not except payment for the diagnosis despite my protestation. Hands down the best independent BMW repair shop in the state. Period. I have a project E39/M5 that I am rebuilding and Mr Xi has been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals. "She" needed a lot of help with a clutch rebuild, various driveline components, new brakes all the way around and other stuffs. Today I picked her up, and was rewarded with the many reasons for bringing a grand old "dame" like her back to life. Three letters....O M G!!!! Repair work was excellent. Got my car back in better mechanical condition. The 2 star rating is for the scratches and gouges on my hood and kidney grill along with A LOT of dust and water spots all over the car. My car stayed there for about a week waiting for parts which I was fine with but some how whilst there it incurred the damages. I wash my car every week and I know what's new and what's not. I picked up the car after dark and hadn't realized all this till I got into my building's parking structure with all the lights. I took pictures with time stamps and sent them to Xi the next morning. He denied that it happened while in his possession and even made a comment about my kidney grills. They are plastidipped but because of the damage, a lot of it had peeled off. He said plastidipped grills don't look great anyway and maybe his technician rubbed up against it while working on the engine. First, I feel that's unprofessional to diss a person's (CLIENT'S!) taste in style; and second, why wasn't the technician using a fender cover?? It may not be the norm but thats basic stuff they teach in automotive tech. Also, the shop was very dusty, floor dirty, parts all over the place. Price was good, but when you're spending 3 grand for repairs, there's a certain measure of expectation to be held. read more

I have a E92 BMW M3 and have always taken it to the dealer. After discovering how awful the BMW dealership in Honolulu is and vowed never to take it back because all they have is terrible service and rip you off, I went out to find another mechanic. I had engine problems with "Engine Malfunction: Reduced Power" and took my car into Xi to have it checked out. Xi diagnosed the problem and had it fixed that same day. Car runs great! Not only that is when the bill arrived I found that the price to be outstanding for the problem my engine was having. Xi did not try and sell me other malfunctions with the car or things that possibly could go wrong. This shop is very honest and fixed my car very fast. I will be returning to Xi for all my future BMW problems and I recommend the same. Do not waste your time or your money at the dealer and take your BMW here. read more

Xi is a down-to-earth BMW guru with whom I've trusted a couple of E46 3 series thus far. He's never disappointed. In my experience, the level of knowledge he brings to his work is exceptional, his work is done well and quickly, and his pricing is fair. And he's always willing to help if he can. I took a car in the other day for maintenance and diagnositics. He'd diagnosed in a matter of minutes, before I left the shop. I asked him if he knew of a good body shop, as I needed to replace a trim guide near the front bumper that had failed--and he said he'd do that too. I asked him for his opinion about my options for a malfunctioning power/volume control on the radio/CD player. He said this typically involves replacing the radio/CD player, but offered to take a look at it. When I picked up the car, Xi had not only done the mechanical maintenance and diagnostics work (which I expected), but had also done that body work and audio repair mentioned--saving me considerable time and money! read more

I have an old 2003 BMW in great condition until found out slow coolant leakage . After check Yelp review, I called for an estimate on labor cost which was very reasonable. So my part order arrived and brought the car to this place. The owner, Xi worked on it and completed the job very fast. In fact, too fast that makes me worry at first because I am very careful and cautious type of person. Also youtube bmw forum most of them said 2 hours. In result, not only replacement a new expansion coolant tank fast, and solved the problem, but also he give me 30% less than what he quoted. I didn't want to ask why because don't want him change his mind :) But my guess was, he quoted based on the job labor hours (by the book), but when the actual labor took less time than he give me discount. I have never seen any mechanics giving you discount after agreed for the charges. Usually all the way around. Quote less but ends up pay more. Not with this place. Especially after talking to Xi, the shop owner while I was there. I found, he is the most honest mechanics I have ever met before. This good comment is not about giving me discount, but what his performance is very obvious with excellent results but communication between He and I in less than 2 hours, enough to have good impression about him and his service so far. I just got a BMW a while back and I've been looking for a place to take it to. I take really great care of my car, so I wanted to take it to a place I could trust. I called another repair shop prior to coming to Xi Tech, but they said they were too busy to take me that day. I seen that Xi Tech had 5 stars so I decided to give them a shot. I called them up and they answered right away and said they could take me that day. I ended up bringing my car in to take a look at a few issues I had, then when I came to pick the car up they told me about more major issues I didn't even know I had! They gave my car an inspection and showed me the things that needed to be fixed. All the information of what I got done and what I needed/should get done was printed out. I was amazed! The other shop I took my car to never pointed out any other problems I had. I bought my car used so I never knew what needed to be replaced/fixed soon. Prices are great for the work they do, they definitely don't overcharge. Can't explain how much blown away I was by this place. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't know the more important issues my car had. I would never take my car anywhere else! I love this place. Not knowing anything about cars I always worry about getting ripped off. XI was recommended to me by a Mercedes owner who goes to XI's friend who he swears by. His quote to fix my clutch came in almost half the price of Bavarian Motors. BM said it was a difficult job. XI said it was not. I took it to XI to change a tail light. He had to take a lot apart to get to it from the trunk. XI said no charge! I gave him a $20 anyway and he was happy. Today I took it to change the battery cables. It took longer than estimate because the cables were real long and went from back to front. He said he wouldn't charge more because he had quoted me a price already. I called today and he said to bring it down. He worked on it right away even though the place was jammed with cars being repaired. He shows you the old parts and explains what he did. Quick, good service, expert work, no hassles or drama, and the best part-reasonable prices for a foreign car!! Yup, I love this place and highly recommend XI! read more
