Halal Spicy Stew Beef Hand Pulled Noodles
    Jason P.

I've been intrigued by West Hartford's Xian Noodle Factory for a while, primarily because I've had Xi'an Famous Foods (which also specializes in hand pulled noodles) in NYC bookmarked for years. I figured the WeHa place was an homage to NYC's Xi'an. Tonight, Xian was the first DoorDash place to spark my interest. I ordered the Halal spicy stew beef with hand-pulled noodles, a chicken egg roll and two fried dumplings with chicken filling. Before I comment on Xian's spicy beef noodles, I have to make more than my usual "I'm not qualified to judge the authenticity of this food" disclaimer. I'm not by the way. Several years ago, I had dinner with a friend who IS qualified to judge the authenticity of such noodles, and we shared a plate of noodles at a different place. Those noodles had the same chili pepper flavor profile as Xian's noodles. While those noodles were WAY too spicy for me and I didn't enjoy them, she told me that they were very good, but she would have preferred more heat. Since these dishes tasted similar to me, I have to assume that Xian's noodles ARE authentic, but that doesn't change the fact that they are WAY too spicy for me, and I didn't enjoy them. The stew beef and broccoli had good texture though. This is the first time that I've had wide hand-pulled noodles of this type. They were thicker and doughier than I imagined. I would have preferred a thinner noodle regardless of the sauce. But again, I believe this is likely authentic based upon internet pictures from other similar restaurants. In any event, I think this is one of those things that - if you think you'll like Xian's spicy beef noodles based upon the above information, you probably will. If like me, your palate is not trained for those flavors, you may not. Since I first ate the spicy noodles before the dumplings and chicken egg roll, the residual heat from the noodles affected my tasting of the dumplings and egg roll. The dumplings seemed good, but I'm sure I missed any subtle flavors. The chicken egg roll, however, was delicious. It almost tasted like a Chinese-seasoned mini chicken pot pie in a crispy egg roll shell. Xian is Four Stars for me, which factors in my assumption that more knowledgeable consumers of spicy hand-pulled noodles are in a better position to judge authenticity and quality than I am. I can't go higher than Four Stars though, since I would not order the spicy noodles again.

Definitely a restaurant you need to go! Here you will have the opportunity to taste authentic regional Chinese cuisine and it's very unique! The food is really delicious and fresh. I can really tell there are some serious preparations and cooking and the clerk is so friendly and nice that reminds me the old days back in my hometown. To avoid wait times you may call the restaurant and order 10mins before arrival. I strongly recommend dine in because all of those dishes are freshly served and taste the best only right after being cooked.

Real authentic food. All hand made by the owner. Noodles, dumplings and buns are all good.

"I was complaining, I was down in the dumps I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!" (Pulled Up -The Talking Heads) Hand Pulled Noodles? It's a special technique of noodle making where the noodles are totally made by hand (no machinery) through a series of folding and looping and punching and swinging them through the air like a jump rope. Here's a cool video showing how it's done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3rWVpZgsUw Anyway, we now have a Hand Pulled Noodle place in the Hartford area. Welcome to the Xian Noodle Factory. It's a small place with just three booths and one table. I had dinner here tonight, and I have to mention that it was 77 degrees outside, and Xian didn't have any air conditioning, They did have a floor stand oscillating fan that didn't do much in the cooling department. I ordered the Pork Sauce Hand Pulled Noodles for $9.95. The counter person said "that's a little spicy, is that OK?" I said sure. (Bring it on!) The noodles were terrific- thicker and chewier than usual, they had a great texture. The dish had lots of flakes and specks of chili peppers in there. Combined with the hot oils in the sauce, they all combined to make it a wonderful fiery dish. There was plenty of ground pork in my bowl, along with some diced scallions and broccoli florets. It was a great dish. The only quibble I had was I thought it was just a little too salty. I saw a few take out customers and a few dine in customers during my time there tonight. But they sure weren't crowded. I would go back, the food was that good.

    THOSE NOODLES!!! So delicious!

Ok so Xian Noodle Factory is such a beautiful gem on New Park Ave in West Hartford! Sandwiched between a subway and Dunkin Xian Noodle Factory gives you amazingly delicious homemade noodles! It's a really interesting process of stretching dough so they are these gigantic long noodles and they are so so good! My husband and I ordered their dumplings and the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. Dumplings were not my favorite but my hubby loved them. The star of the meal was by far their spicy beef noodle soup! The beef was so so tender and the combination of spice and broth was honestly drinkable (we ate every last drop of that broth!!). The noodles were just so delicious- so fresh, light and flavorful! This meal definitely cleared your sinuses but in the most perfect way! Just enough spice for a nice kick! The portion sizes are crazy too we just ordered one bowl and it was enough for my husband and I (and he loves to eat!!) Once we were finishing our meal we overheard a small group order chicken teriyaki over noodles and honestly that is my next order at Xian Noodle Factory! Looked so delicious! Only reason why I am giving four stars is due to the fact that their hours are so odd- closed three days out of the week and strange hours when they are open. I wish they were open more because it is THAT good! Another issue is that it is $20+ for credit cards so as cheap as it was we still needed to spend over $20 to use our cards. Next time we will bring cash! But all that aside, check this place out! It is authentic, homemade and delicious! The staff is super nice and friendly as well which is always a plus!

Yelp saves the day again. Looking for something new, delicious, and quick, Yelp led me to Xi'an, where I had a late-afternoon lunch. If Xi'an had existed when I lived in the area, I would have come here a lot. With eyes bigger than our stomachs, Tim M and I ordered three things to share: pork buns, lamb burger, and the spicy pork noodles. The lamb burger is a must; we still talk about this small yet scrumptious hand-held delight. The lamb is incredibly tasty. We were fighting for the last bite! I also liked the spicy pork noodles, though the noodles didn't taste as freshly-made as I was hoping. The spicy sauce and with pork was really good, though. And slippery! It was a little messy to split. Tim and I were divided on the pork buns. The pork inside was well seasoned, but the portion of meat to bun was small. The shop is small, so be prepared to do take out.

I think they had a name change recently? Sign outside doesn't match sign inside

Xi'an Noodle Factory is another one of those hidden gems in WeHa that you don't want to tell too many people about because you are afraid of revealing such an amazing food spot-but at the same time you want to give them all the business so that they can flourish. Initially, this location was a confusing discovery as it was originally called Teriyaki Noodle Factory (as the sign on the inside still shows). But after getting that settled, one thing is clear: this place makes amazing noodles. The Liang Pi, also known as cold skin noodles is a clear standout-giving even the likes of the Xi'an Famous Foods a run for its money. Flavorful, al dente, and with just the right "mouth feel" the liang pi soaks up all that delicious sauce and pairs well with the gluten and sweet cucumbers-it is a must order here! I have also tried the spicy lamb dumplings, the wonton soup (this is the real deal here-not some Americanized version), and the hand-pulled noodles. All dishes were top notch - and while spicy, you just can't help but continue torturing yourself with the delicious, tingly hot oil sauce. Xi'an has all of the classic dishes representative of that location in China and they do everything right. If you are looking for an authentic Chinese food experience in West Hartford, look no further!

I am a huge fan of Chinese Cuisine. I have just recently learned the different types of cuisine the Chinese culture has to offer. Xian style is definitely my favorite. I tend to visit Flushing, Queens for all my Asian treats, so I was extremely happy when I came across this place here in Hartford. I got a lamb burger and the spicy beef hand pulled noodles. I really enjoyed both. The lamb could of used a little more spice, I like my food on the spicier side. The noodles were really good. I loved the texture and the consistency that they had. For some reason when the food came to me, it was not all that hot "temperature wise". That is the only thing I could really say that could be better. I can't wait to try other things on the menu like the lamb soup, and the lamb dumpling soup. They also got chicken teriyaki. Not much ambiance at this place, so don't expect much if you sit in to eat. But I frequently eat in NYC, so this is nothing new to me. The food is what is most important.

Lunch specials are smaller portion, but good for the price (raised to $12.95 now since my last menu photo) We split a lot of dishes because we couldn't decide: Wonton soup appetizer {4.5/5}: Loved how delicate the wontons were and the clear broth was great for a cold day. Tad too salty though. Lunch special --Braised pork belly {3/5}: Very tender, but kind of monotone in flavor. Very filling! Lunch special --Hot and sour gizzards {4.5/5}: This might freak people out in terms of texture, but I LOVE this texture. Good chew and pops of heat from the peppers and acid from the pickled green beans Lunch special --Cumin dish lamb {3/5}: kind of chewy and not as much flavor as I wished, but not bad! Chicken wings {3/5}: Crunchyyyy. Battered wings, not as much flavor as their chongqing chicken which I prefer, but not bad

Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. It's really good, but know that you're getting the real deal sichuan experience. Expect some heat, some saucy fingers, and some bones, and you'll get some really good bites

This was a well prepared lunch crew. The order was put in for two egg rolls, as an appetizer My neighbor ordered the lemon chicken, which included hot and sour soup I ordered the garlic chicken, along with wonton soup The soups arrived almost immediately, and shortly thereafter came the two spring rolls. The wonton soup was perfect. Two delicate wontons, stuffed with pork, in a chicken broth that was not salty whatsoever. My neighbor said the hot and sour soup was some of the best she ever had The spring rolls were on point, slightly crispy, amazing flavor, and a perfect choice to start to the lunch experience The dinners arrived, and I saw that the beef and garlic sauce also included water chestnuts, broccoli, and a delicious brown sauce that was not too overpowering. The beef and garlic was a perfect combination with these vegetables and the gravy over rice. The rice was just perfectly sticky and delicious. Explosions of different flavors hit this dish perfectly. This was one of the best Chinese dishes I've had in a long time. Tasting the lemon chicken, the chicken was pounded extremely thin, deep-fried and served with lemon slices over the top. It was very nice. The restrooms were spotless. The enjoyment experience was off the charts as far as the ambience, food presentations, the various tastes of the food, along with the prices The vibe was perfect. For Connecticut, this has to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in the state. In simple terms, the experience was perfect. Thank you Great Taste.
