This place is still as awesome as ever! The land skewers are 4 foot 6.99 now instead of $.99 but hey I get it in this economy. Their cucumber salad is so refreshing and I love their lamb and gizzards skewers. Since we order from the QR code, interaction with the server is minimal but they do promptly bring you food. My favorite thing about this establishment is still here, the ambiance!! I love the protection walls and it just makes this experience stand out so much. I think this is my favorite late night spot in San Diego if I had to choose one.
Came here on 4th of July around midnight and they do close late. I got the chicken skewers, chicken gizzards, and cucumber. My friend got the cold noodle soup. The could noodle soup has a sweet taste to it and it was my first time trying to I didn't know what to expect. The skewers were seasoned well. There are additional seasonings on the table for you to use. You order through your phone then at the end you pay with the server. It did take awhile to get our food and it didn't seem that busy. But will go back to try out other items.
My friends and I decided to come here the day after Halloween as a late-night dinner because there weren't many places open. This type of Chinese BBQ skewer cuisine is something we've never tried before. There are lots of food options and the dipping spices go well with the skewers. The servers also helped us with any confusion we had about how to eat it. The ambience was like nothing I've ever seen in a restaurant before!!! The walls were all moving projections and they had messages from customers popping up as well which I thought was very fun. Overall a very unique experience and I would recommend going there for a fun meal!
This was a fun skewers place to try. The place is dark inside because of the walls are all like TV screens and different things on them so depending on what is showing up on screen was how bright the room was, but the lighting overall was more like karaoke room lighting. They had a deal for beef skewers for $1.50 until 9pm and then after 9pm the pricing dropped another 25cents. You order everything off your phone, you scan for the menu at the table. The lamb skewers, beef skewers, chicken skins, pork belly was all so tasty and you can order them not spicy either. Decent variety of dishes to try at this place. And makes for a fun eating experience too.
TLDR: Good foods but slow seating times, inaccurate wait time estimates. Xinjiang is one of my most favorite places to dine since the skewers and the salads are always good. I think in the past two months, we've been here at least three to four times now. Though with the good foods, comes the realization above. Xinjiang is great to dine at but the wait times are always so off. The first time we went, we saw no wait time so we got to the restaurant and then joined the waitlist. It took us 20-30 minutes to get seated. The second two times, we knew that there'd be a chance of waiting so we joined right before leaving the house (20 minutes away). Still took 15ish minutes to get seated. The most recent time took even longer. We were a little over 22 minutes from the restaurant and were 8th in line. By the time we got to the restaurant, we were only 4th. We had time to go out, grab tea, and come back and still had to wait. Once we were seated, it was great. Ordering was done through the app and our foods were brought out relatively quickly. Meat quality is usually very good and the seasoning and extra dip powder is incredible. The tripe salad (forgot the menu name for it) is one of the items I order almost every time. It's a good palate cleanser. Xinjiang is one of my most favorite restaurants because of the good food and the cool interior designs but the inaccurate wait time takes me out every time LOL. Recommended try but just gotta expect an unexpected extended wait time. Overall Rating: Food: 10/10 Service: 8/10 Menu: 10/10 Restaurant Vibes: 10/10 Price to Overall Dining (POD): 10/10
I love Xinjiang food and miss it from my study abroad days in Beijing. It was such a treat to find a restaurant here in San Diego that sells Xinjiang skewers! We went during happy hour at around 11pm for the skewers deal we heard they had. The place was lively and full of chatter. There are projections on every wall. It's really cool when you first go in, but I found it quite distracting after awhile and it took away from the experience. It doesn't help that the projectors aren't perfectly aligned/timed right on some walls so the animations look a bit off. Wall projections aside, all the food I ate was amazing. The beef and lamb skewers were flavorful and reminded me of my college days. I highly suggest the smashed cucumber salad, which was fresh and vinegary. It paired well with the meats. The shitake mushroom with garlic skewer was also super delicious! I can't wait to come back!
Back at my favorite late night skewer spot. Even though this is a place I usually rave about, I still want my reviews to highlight consistency and stay honest. I definitely left satisfied with that cumin coated skewer craving, but a few other dishes were a little disappointing this time. The skewers here, especially the beef kebab, are always consistently good. They have a great flame grilled flavor and are decently priced at $1.50 each (or $1.25 if you come after 10 PM). I also recommend adding the seasoning mix on the table to your skewers. This time I tried the quail egg skewers which were really good. The eggs held the seasoning well and the grill gave them a unique texture. We usually enjoy the clams here, but they were incredibly salty this time. Even pairing them with rice didn't help much. That was a little disappointing since it's normally one of the dishes I recommend. I also tried the pork belly which is priced at $4.99 for four pieces, and honestly the size felt a little insulting. The slices were super thin, probably as thin as a debit card, and very small. It felt like maybe fifty cents worth of meat but priced much higher. Even with those misses, it's still a fun place to eat. Wait times for tables can vary, so it's a good idea to check Yelp and join the waitlist ahead of time. Food can also come out at different speeds, but just relax, hang out, and enjoy the EDM playing in the background. .
Myyyyy goodness. Phenomenal. Xinjiang BBQ is open late, packed with happy, hungry folks, and WOW do they deliver! Literally drooling while typing this thinking about those bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms, omg. My lamb skewers were insanely delicious, and so was everything else. Not to mention, trippy and/or scenic projections on every wall?! What a unique spot. See you again soon!
Funny thing is that we came here since it was open late night and the amount of food wasn't heavy, but it's not an SD only location. There's one close to me in the 626. Whoops. Either way, it's a spacious restaurant and I think it's wildly hilarious that before you go in there's a bunch of health warnings, like for epileptics, for example and I guess it's their way of adding in a disclaimer and it makes sense. The entire restaurant walls have these crazy projections that go around it, similar to some karaoke joints, where it was under the ocean, with some weird looking pandas, in ancient China, going through the snow and delivering gifts with Santa, and much more. There's also a wall where they project whatever customers text and that's pretty hilarious in its own right. You scan a QR code and add items into your cart through the app and you check out afterwards. Food came out decently fast which was nice. We got the: lamb kebob, lamb kidney (I was NOT a fan of this, the texture and taste but other people at the table enjoyed it), beef kebob, beef tongue, chicken gristle (also not a fan of this texture, but other people liked it), chicken skin (crispy and delicious), and noodle with lamb soup (we got small bowls to share this, love the pasta noodles and came with a good amount of lamb, great for a cold night). The table also shared some beer. Food comes out pre cooked but is on a warming grill stand. I prefer a little bit of char on my skewers so since we don't self grill that takes the option out. Not bad, went great with the cumin and spicy cumin at the table. Decent Chinese skewer place.
We joined the waitlist from Yelp but still ended up waiting over 40 minutes to be seated. The estimated time on Yelp was 10-20 min, so be aware it might not be accurate. Good news is that the food came out quick and totally made the wait worth it. The flavors were delicious and we loved the ordering system. You order on your phone so you can order as many times as you want, and scroll through the menu as many times as you want. I recommend making multiple small orders so the meat stays hot. It tastes the best when it's piping hot! There are no hovering waiters, just good food. Everything we ordered was super tasty, but meat skewers are definitely must try's. Based on other reviews, they used to have lamb happy hour but changed it to beef recently and upped the price a little. Still a great deal!
While other restaurants are already close this Xinjiang bbq is still open late at night. One of my Son's Friends recommended this place to check it out. We ordered fried rice, 4 chicken kebabs, 4 beef kebabs, beef rolls, and a whole squid . Food came out fast, everything tasted good, and service was fast too. You can order either to the staff or the tablet in your table. Lots of parking even late at night but if you come earlier it can be packed since it's next to a grocery store.
Wow this spot is cool! There's a lot of screens and they are always changing. They specialized in bbq skewers. They are also very inexpensive. My friend and I came in and order a lot of different ones and the total was only $30. Everything that we tried was delicious. They have spices you can customize how spicy you want it and spices on the table to flavor your food. The service is good. You order the food on the phone using a QR code. We got 8 of the beef skewers and they were under $2 each. We also got the lotus, quail eggs and the eggplant. We also got the sweet and sour fries which was like vinegar and sugar fries. It was delicious and I really liked the texture. It was a good compliment to the skewers. The fries were skinny and more like chips and reminded me of like fair style fries.

Lower rating because of consistency issue. It's really hit or miss in between visits and even on the same visit. For example, on one visit my friends and I ordered fried rice for the table to share. It was really good the first time and we all finished it and decided to order a 2nd one and it was night and day different than what we got initially. read more

I was unsure about this place because of its location & biz hrs. & Also I don't live nearby. However, after a late performance, we were looking for a restaurant that was still open & decided to give it a try. To our surprise, the food was pretty good. The skewers were tasty, beef & lamb were our favorites, and the chicken skewers were good too, after 10 p.m. the chicken skewer is $1.25 per. Also, customer service was good too, just when checkout took a bit longer since they seemed understaffed. Overall, pretty good, atmosphere not too bad, we will return to try more items. read more
Flew into San Diego pretty late and we came by for some late late night dinner. Great spot that is open late! Cool vibes and decor inside. Once seated, you order from a qr code. Things come out pretty quickly once you put in your order. Luckily they stagger things and not everything comes out all at once. It would definitely not have fit at our table. All the food came out hot and perfectly cooked. The skewers were perfectly. Loved the scallops. The beef rolls were so crunchy and savory. We ordered a few soups too just as a nice light palette cleanser and I ended up really loving them! Will definitely be back. This is a fun little spot with a unique atmosphere where it feels like the whole restaurant is a karaoke bar! Each table has its own karaoke screen and they have you order through QR code. The food is good for how late they open till. As of now they close at 1:30am. My group ordered a variety of food and some hits include the spicy clams and of course lamb skewers which they offer a happy hour discount for later in the evening. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a late snack with a fun atmosphere. read more

This restaurant is great for a group hangout dinner with the boys/girls. It has a fun vibe with motion pictures on the wall and karaoke options at each table (idk how it works lol). Staff were so kind and service was excellent. Food came out quickly. FOOD: All the skewers were delightful. Lamb was indeed our favorite and i would order more of it next time. I surprisingly got full off ~10 skewers I think. Only downside was that the meats were not hot/super warm when it got to us (we did order a lot) and they came to us in big batches so unfortunately they got to room temperature fairly quickly. Regardless, food were decently priced and i would totally come back here again. read more

Good skewers. But I will say it was really one flavored. Cumin and Asian chili powder. For the most part each skewer tasted the same. Only the bacon and mushroom had a sweet flavor which I really enjoyed. Service was fine all the food came out in a timely manner. I did enjoy the ambiance it had decent music and a cool wall projector. It's was a good experience. I would still come back but maybe not drive out of my way to come here. read more
First time visiting last night and this place was such a pleasant surprise! Located in a large plaza next to Thuan Phat supermarket, there was plenty of parking! We came here cause we were hungry late night and their hours were perfect since they close at 2am. We came at 10:30pm and waited around 30-40min. We checked in with the host on the tablet and were called once our table was ready. Besides the wait time, everything else was great! We ordered the happy hour lamb skewers (unlimited) and they were soooo good! Also got the beef tongue skewer but we didn't love that as much, rice was also a bit dry. They have sesame oil and salt for dipping upon request. Everything came out fairly quickly. The restaurant itself was a decent size with fun visuals projected on their walls. Would definitely come back just for those lamb skewers for such an affordable price (We ate 8 lamb skewers, 1 beef tongue skewer, 2 rice, and one large bottled beer and the bill barely hit $30). Cumin skewers is something I've been craving for some time and am glad we finally have a spot in SD! For first time visitors of this establishment, you'll probably be wondering if you've walked into a club or some sort of lounge as the first thing you see is a giant sign about the possibility of seizures if you are sensitive to lights and strobes . At the moment the place is a quiet casual spot but it is open til 3AM for a reason and once they get their liquor license... I expect this to be a spot to go turn up after hours for the degenerates out here. I've been twice so far and the food is definitely still in the works in regards to finalizing the menu and quality but I can say that it's definitely trending up! My one complaint so far is that the beef rolls have too little meat, but the skewers have been a hit so far! read more

What a awesome and fun dinning experience. We ordered an assortment of skewers and they were very tasty. Favorites are the beef, lamb and chicken skin. The staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining how the menu worked. The vibe of the restaurant was very fun, great for groups to hang out. We came here on a weekday night and it wasn't too crowded. The restaurant itself is very cool and there are projecters decorating the walls all over which is so trippy. My boyfriend and I ordered the pork belly, beef, lamb, sausage skewers, as well as the beef pancake roll. They all tasted pretty good! The flavoring and spices were a bit one dimensional compared to the ones I've eaten in LA. They also don't see alcohol yet which is a shame since beer would go so well with the food. This long vacated suite in the Linda Vista Plaza now has a new tenant in Xinjiang BBQ which has a sister location north in Monterey Park. It's at least the second such Chinese barbecue eatery that has recently opened in the SD area. The inside decor had a dark, futuristic theme with an emphasis on neon colors and holograms. There were about a dozen booths/tables in the dining room which had a capacity to seat about 70 diners. The concept was barbecued skewers that could be seasoned with different levels of spiciness. Beef, chicken, pork, and lamb were the basic meats, however offal was available if your palate was interested in more gamey or exotic flavors. There were also fried snacks, noodle and rice dishes, and desserts if skewers were not your thing. Individual screens and microphones for karaoke were set up at each table. The former doubled as a method of ordering food and for displaying music videos. I ordered the Beef Rolls from the list of appetizers and then selected assorted skewers for my meal. The proteins were Fish Tofu, Lamb Kabab, Mini Sweet Sausage, and Pork Belly. I requested less salt to be sprinkled on the skewers. The other modification I asked for was Half & Half Spicy. This was an option I had not seen at the competitors. For my lamb and pork, the respective orders came as a quantity of four skewers. Two of them had no spice at all while the other two had mild spiciness as my preference. The kitchen cooked the skewers and then servers brought them to the table and placed them on a platter. The half and half was a nice contrast as you could taste the meat in its natural state and then also with some spiciness added. The lamb was my favorite because it had the right ratio of meat to fat. The Beef Rolls came as two fried pieces that were divided into four segments. The filling of beef and scallions quelled my initial hunger very rapidly. If you are a night owl, then Xinjiang BBQ might be the right place because they stay open until as late as 3 am on Friday and Saturday. Note that a promotional discount was applied to the check if you wrote feedback on Google or Yelp during the soft opening period which I did not participate. read more

This is definitely a place you wanna go to with friends. It's very casual and you get to sit there and enjoy the ambience. It's unlike anything I've seen here in San Diego. There are walls that are animated with different mosaics of either whale, swimming nature, etc. You can even hire a panda to hang out with you for a little bit for your birthday.... Worth the try: beef skewers, lamb skewers, chicken skin, steamed bun, scallop with garlic sauce, beef rolls Tip: they don't currently have their liquor license but will have it soon! PARKING: Huge plaza with tons of parking in front. SERVICE: You'll order through your phone and the food comes out fast. The waiters were really nice too! ATMOSPHERE: Super interesting space! There are projections all over the wall, lights on the ceiling, and music playing in the background. Each booth comes with a little karaoke screen too. I'm sure this place will start gaining popularity with the late night crowd once they get their liquor license. I was looking for a place to eat dinner with my friends and this place came up on Yelp. I'm so glad we ended up coming here! It's a new spot in San Diego, but the food is quick to come out and everything was delicious. Oh man, delicious! Great prices and on point seasoning make this a 5 star, and don't get me started on the ambiance! Super cool projecting wraps the entire interior of the dining area, makes this feel chic and there's a nice infinity wall as you walk in. There was some trouble with the digital menu, but the attendant fixed it very quickly so no harm no foul. Took about 10-15 minutes for the skewers to come out and they hit! The beef and chicken are definitely the best, for me the chicken won out. Make sure to get rice :) read more
Okay so it was a little sus that there were so many 5 star reviews from new accounts so I had to come here and try it out myself. Located in a strip mall in Linda Vista, it's definitely not a place where I would expect to see a restaurant like this. But honestly that's a good thing because PLENTY OF PARKING. Definitely a lack of Chinese skewer places in San Diego so I welcome this addition with open arms especially since they're open late! The ambiance of the restaurant is exactly what you see in the pictures. They have projections on the wall which is definitely unique. You order with a QR code at your table and there's also a little tv where you can watch music videos of karaoke. If you are interested in karaoke each table gets one song and the server will come with a microphone. Onto the most important thing: food. Everything automatically comes medium spicy unless specified otherwise. We find it to be a bit on the mild side so we asked for a side dish of the spicy powder. Overall everything was fairly priced and tasty. My top picks would be the back wrapped enoki, garden salad, eggplant, and potato skewer Whole squid: 4/5 (good for sharing, but a tad cold) Eggplant: 5/5 Pork belly: 3/5 (tough) Bacon wrapped enoki: 5/5 Garden salad: 5/5 Lamb skewer: 3/5 (tad tough, not enough spices) Chicken skin: 3/5 (crispy was too crispy for us) Intestine: 5/5 Potato: 5/5 Sweet sausage: 5/5 Beef roll: 2/5 (everything inside is a miss, but the pancake is really good) The service was really good, the staff were all very friendly and good at explaining. Newly opened Xinjiang BBQ is located in Linda Vista next to the Thuan Phat Supermarket. I was very pleased with my experience here during their soft opening! Ambiance: Our party of 4 got seated right away at 7pm on a Sunday and there's a lot of parking available. There are several 4-6 person tables and one big circle table that seems to fit 10ish people, so good for 1 large group. Every table has a TV that plays music. I love the ambiance and decoration in this place! Lots of animations on the walls surrounding the tables. The entrance is pretty cool! Service: You scan the QR code which leads you to where you order for the whole table. Food came out in waves and came out pretty quickly. Our servers, Yao and Aaron, were fantastic! It was our friend's birthday and they served her a plate of sliced oranges with a candle and sang-- very cute! Food: We ordered a lot and truthfully, there wasn't anything that I didn't like! I would say the *must orders* are: -Beef Kabab ($6.99): 4 skewers -Chicken Skin Crispy ($5.99): 4 skewers -Chow Mein ($9.99): size was good enough to share with our party -Scallop with Garlic Sauce ($13.99): 5 pieces -Beef Rolls ($9.99)- 2 rolls cut in 8 total pieces *Ask for their spicy dry powder to dip the food in! Overall: It's still during their soft opening so they're still trying to work out some kinks like waiting for their liquor license. We had such a great experience and I cannot wait for the grand opening! This place has a lot of potential for some fun nights as they close at 3am. We will definitely be back! read more

Probably would have given a perfect star rating if the service wasn't slow otherwise I only got one lamb Skewer and one order of beef skewers and I think I should've done it the other way around. Because the beef skewers were a little fatty for me, but the lamb skewers were excellent. This place is perfect for groups or a fun two couple or whateva! I also got the cucumbers salad, which was absolutely delicious super garlic, and yummy and I got the scallops that surprisingly had a little needle to it, which was really good. Next time I'm gonna try the chow mein and eggplant with garlic but hopefully I'll come here with somebody else because it opens late till like 2 AM so that sounds like a fun plan. read more
