A-choy is a real hit I didn't expect grilled lettuce to taste that good. The tofu with century egg, however, is not recommended. My friend and I tried a yogurt cocktail and then ordered a soju bottle (pricey but expected from any restaurant). If you're craving some Chinese skewers, you have to try Xinjiang BBQ. Happy hour is everyday after 5PM with discounted lamb skewers and it gets even cheaper after 10PM. They're definitely trying to cater to late-night snacking and drinking and there were a ton of people just ordering pitchers of beer and soju bottles. Scan the QR code to order for the table. Food comes out pretty fast and skewers are placed on a hot pan to keep it warm. And even though you don't have to interact with staff to order, they were walking around often and checking in on the tables. Out of the meat skewers, my favorites were the beef, chicken skin, and fish tofu. We tried the lamb and although it was such a good deal, the beef was just tastier. Chicken skin was crispy and the fish tofu was soft and savory. The sausages were decent and tasted slightly sweet, like a Taiwanese sausage. The chicken wings were pretty good too. One order gets you 4 wings and the skin was crispy and meat was moist. For vegetables, I'd recommend ordering the A-choy. This is the cheapest I've ever seen A-choy at a restaurant and I think the portion size matches the price you pay. Garlic was really good but it's kind of expensive for just several cloves on a stick. Potato slices weren't as crispy as I'd like it to be. And the enoki mushrooms with bacon were so small, I don't think it was really worth it. Overall, come for the meat skewers because the vegetables didn't stand out too much. Warning, if the medium spice level is not spicy enough for you, be careful of the very spicy option (the next spice level). For me, it goes from 0-100 in terms of spiciness. You can order 1 very spicy skewer to gauge if you can tolerate it. I think the owner said the spicy level can sometimes vary depending on how the chef seasons it and that upon request you can tailor it. Food is self ordered through your phone. They have Happy Hours for a specific type of skewer that changes probably daily. Wait times to get a table and for food can sometimes be long during rush hours. One time we arrived around 6PM on a Saturday and it was practically empty. We left to go to a nearby supermarket while waiting on others to arrive, did not check in. Edit: the owner reached out and is going over these practices with his staff. My wife loves this place so we will be back to try again. I've been here twice and both times I've told them about my wife's seafood allergy and both times it's been ignored. The first time we ordered a beef soup after we were promised there was no seafood in it. Fortunately we saw the baby shrimp floating in it before my wife had any. The second time we ordered the chow mein and my wife didn't notice the shrimp until she had a few bites. This time she had enough to become ill. There's a place to select that you have an allergy when ordering but there's no way to specify what it actually is, so we have to rely on telling a server. I don't think the message is making it back to the kitchen. This is recklessly dangerous and I'll be following up with the health department. read more

When I saw this place, I was hoping it was related to the restaurant of the same name in Monterey Park. Im so happy it ended up being the same restaurant, and turned out to even be the same great employees working there from when I used to go to the Monterey Park location in 2019-2021 The food is just as I remembered it, maybe even better than I remember it to be. Another really solid Chinese skewers spot! Reminds me of Hi Guest with the whole club concept and skewers, except this spot has a lamb skewer special for 0.99 per skewer after 10pm or something. They have it everyday! I also like how it opens till pretty late because we came right after attending a concert and we were pretty hungry. We tried a variety of skewers and my favorite is the beef belly - soo delicious. The lamb is pretty good too and a great deal. The fried rice is not as good as Hi Guest but everything else is quite comparable! We enjoyed the beef roll and eggplant, which was a little bit tart and works well to break up the meat flavor. The pork slices were ok and I wouldn't get it again. They also have extra seasonings on the table but honestly the food was already so flavorful I didn't even use it. Got home late from the hospital and many places weren't delivering anymore (after 9) - happened to find this place, and they delivered within 20 minutes, amazing for La Jolla delivery from Linda Vista - and the food was still warm. The taste was delicious, the eggplant (spicy) and the scallop with noodles on it - yum yum yum - so when my husband flew down, we decided to go try it in person - even better! Piping hot and spicy! Now the food is good (best one chicken - also the cheapest) the lamb and the beef are very fatty so if you don't like fat on your meat should avoid that. Service is bare minimum, literally minimum don't expect nobody to check on you, they have a "request service button" I would say is decoration because it doesn't work. Now the problem with this place was the WAIT, seriously we were there for 2+ hrs to get all our order (which was a very simple and minimal only 2 people) and we decided to even check out before the rest of our order arrived. It was like a 30 min wait in between each arrival of an item/food we ordered. What an eccentric new restaurant to the Linda Vista area! I haven't been to this exact restaurant since it was Yum Cha Cafe, so it was very surprising to see the change in scenery. A late-night skewer spot was not something I expected to open here, however, Xinjiang BBQ is not their only location. Their first location is in Monterey Park and SD happens to be their second opening spot. Given the location, there's tons of parking since it is next to the Thuan Phat supermarket. The staff interaction is minimal as ordering is through a QR code, however, some explanation is given if you are dining for the first time. Some skewer items came in 4, but more specialty ones came by itself. We got the beef, chicken gizzard, and chicken skin skewers. For seafood, we got the Garlic Chili Oil Scallops and a regular size Stir Fried Spicy Clams. I enjoyed the seasoning of the skewers and there is additional seasoning powder of chili, cumin, and mixed cumin on the side if you want to add more. The scallops were dressed in chili oil and a clear noodle which went great together. The clams were my least favorite as it was pretty salty and the clams didn't taste fresh and were briny, but had a good amount of spice. The vibe in here reminds me of a night club with its vibrant lights and loud music. The projector screens light the restaurant up and makes the room feel livelier!
