We hit this cafe after 10:30 PM on Saturday night and had a really good time people watching, enjoying a made to order wood fired pizza with an Irish coffee to round out the evening. You know, I think I unlocked the secret best use for XR Cafe - as a place to work during the week. Hear me out! I was downtown for a meeting when my next appointment texted to see if we could swap our meeting time for earlier. They were working at the XR Cafe inside the Crossroads Hotel and suggested I meet them there. I popped over, ordered an iced coffee, and had a great time. Yes, it's a hotel bar at the end of the day, but because of that during the day it's quiet, comfortable, and well attended. For a peaceful weekend breakfast, XR Cafe is the place to be! Both the Hong Kong French Toast and Breakfast Fried Rice are great options that I haven't seen anywhere else in KC. The french toast is very sweet and tastes like a glorified fried donut, so the savory fried rice added the perfect balance to my meal. The pork belly was deliciously fatty, although I wish there was a bit more meat in my fried rice. Service is welcoming and relatively quick, as there weren't many others dining around brunch time. I stayed in this hotel when I was in town and since I got in late I wanted a simple dinner. The staff said the hotel bar had good food and drinks so I went here and it was great! The servers were really nice. I got a cocktail that was amazing and a pizza with fig jam and turkey sausage, also great. I even went back the next day to get a coffee since they have lots of coffee drinks and that was great too. Overall the bar fits the ambiance of the hotel kind of like refurbished factory with exposed bricks. There's lots of couches and chairs around the bar that you can sit at as well as bar stools of course. When I was there at night it was a Monday and some locals 20-30 year olds were coming by also who knew the bartenders. I would definitely come back if I lived in KC or if I visit again. read more

Coffee is completely complimentary and it is very good, from locally roasted beans. We visited KC for a wedding and stayed at the crossroads hotel. This bar/restaurant/lounge was in the lower level of the hotel. It's low key with a few games (pool, shuffleboard, chess). I don't believe it's truly the final destination for most as the rooftop bar is definitely the bigger attraction, its more of a transition area. We had breakfast here on a Sunday morning the day after we got married (& stayed in the hotel, which you should do too). It was the perfect place to get some good grub in a quiet & comfortable setting. I had the avocado toast & added an egg. It was phenomenal. I wish I could eat like that all the time. It comes with pickled vegetables on it & microgreens which is just perfect. The bread was also amazing & obviously something special. My new husband ordered the BLT which I also took a bite out of & I can confirm- tasty as hell. We both had mimosas (a little on the pricier side & probably not worth it, but if it's your honeymoon morning you do whatever you want) & then watched the bartender making several bloody mary's & struck up a conversation with her about what went in them. They use a pickled Bloody Mary mix, & since she offered to make us a little sample Bloody Mary, I can tell you it does make a difference.
