    Pastrami on rye

YUM YUM YUM!!! This place is super good! I had the pastrami on rye, it was packed with flavor and the bread was so soft! The cheese pull on it was beautiful! I also had a tripe chocolate cookie which was soft and huge! It is connected to the bar and you can take your food to the bar side as well! Street parking, but plenty of it! The staff was friendly and attentive. Good music playing and it is a clean shop with plenty of seating! I will be back for sure

This is by far my favorite bar in the city. I am always guaranteed to have a good time and a good drink. The service is quick and I love that they have people walking throughout the bar taking orders. It can get pretty busy on the weekends, which is great if you are trying to people watch or talk to new people. The vibe is casual, but definitely a step up from a dive bar. Definitely check it out!

this is my favorite place in the city - so it's criminal i haven't left a review for it yet. i don't think i've had a bad cocktail on the menu. i'm known to order an italian every time because it's SO GOOD. vibes are great, the staff is very sociable. i genuinely never get tired of this place. 10/5

My favorite part of King G is when the bar opens its garage door windows on a nice day. Nothing beats a flash of outside air during Kansas City's best days. The upstairs ground level is a welcome space. You can belly up to the bar or find seats at some of the island tables, but you can also walk around without issues, even when it's busy. The bar on the downstairs level is a little more exclusive, which is fine. I think it adds to the mystique. The drink menu includes a solid list of cocktail options paired with some of the best local beers. Food from the attached deli is better than good.

I've been hearing raves about King G for a while so I decided to grab lunch on a Saturday when I had an event in the afternoon. At 12:45, I was the only customer, so I was helped promptly. The cashier gave me several suggestions and I settled on a corned beef on rye and the deviled egg potato salad. Both were delicious! The service was very prompt and the space was attractive. If you decide you want a drive, you can take your lunch to the bar side of the business. Great concept!

If you've been here once you'll come again! The deli staff were so kind and the food came out pretty quickly. The bar is gorgeous. Art deco and trendy with plenty of fresh air and greenery.

the pastrami was a little greasy for my taste but very solid and you can tell they use quality ingredients. the deli and bar being on different sides is nice if you want a little more peace and quiet while you're eating.

Some beer choices in the fridge.

Great sandwich spot!! I love the open bay windows, and the music. I had to try the pastrami sandwich, and it was tasty. Next time I want my sandwich with heavy mustard and pickles, to increase the savoriness of the sandwich. Service is perfect, helpful with the choices. ***Flight Attendant approved***

We stopped by King G for a quick dinner before a concert at Grinders. The bar side was very busy and crowded but there were still plenty of seats on the deli side. I got the hot salami and provolone sandwich with a side of potato salad. Both were great. The sandwich had the perfect bread-meat-and cheese ratio. I would get this one again. All of the staff working were very friendly, helpful and overall had great customer service. I plan to return!

That changed yesterday, when Diana Condori, the bar manager, was named a 2026 James Beard Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service semifinalist. As we love supporting restaurants and bars that receive that kind of recognition, my wife and I headed to Fern Bar that evening. I was especially curious what exactly a "sugarcane and agave bar" meant. We arrived around 5:30pm and found only a handful of guests inside. After congratulating the bartender who first served us, he mentioned that Diana was working that night and would stop by to meet us. During our conversation, Diana shared that she didn't even know she had been nominated. She woke up Tuesday to a call from owner Bryan Arri, who said he had big news and was coming over. Her first thought was that something terrible had happened--like the bar had burned down. Instead, he showed up with coffee and told her she was a James Beard honoree. Diana is originally from Bolivia and has lived in Kansas City most of her life, with the exception of time spent in San Francisco during the pandemic. She further refined her cocktail craft through local pop-ups in Kansas City under the name Condor's Cove. When Bryan was preparing to open Fern Bar, he reached out to bring her onto the team. The printed cocktail menu immediately reminded me of the Monarch and the Mercury Room--not surprising given Bryan's background at Manifesto and the Monarch. Thoughtful, intentional, and clearly designed for people who appreciate serious cocktails. We planned on having one or two drinks but ended up staying for three, thanks to an outstanding lineup and a memorable conversation with Diana. We tasted: * No Fly Zone - Rum, agave, pineapple foam * Mr. Collage - Smooth, elegant, egg-white cocktail * Three Negroni Lunch - Bitter, boozy, and beautifully balanced * Pendergast No. 4 - Complex and spirit-driven * It's Bananas - Banana liqueur with bright tropical notes * Off the Rails - Creative and well-executed rum/agave cocktail One downside of many cocktail-forward bars is the lack of food, but Fern Bar offers two varieties of mini burritos for $4--just enough protein to keep things balanced while indulging. Great concept, exceptional service, and truly memorable drinks. Check it out--and be sure to say hello to Diana.

The space is smallish but they do have bar seating in addition to seating throughout. The service was friendly and the drinks were great. They don't offer food, but they do offer cocktails, beer, wine, and mocktails. I went on a Sunday and they have a special menu called "Almost Monday." It's a smaller, simpler cocktail menu and the prices are very fair compared to other cocktail spots. I tried the Caipirinha (pineapple) and the Negroni sour. Both were good. My favorite between the two was the Negroni. It had a pretty color and wasn't too sour or strong. I'd def recommend it and get it again. Definitely stop in and check out this cute spot in Shawnee.

When you arrive there is parallel parking available outside the bar. When you walk in you'll feel like your bright, vibrant, and feels incredibly welcoming. Also, they have some really fun drinks as well that have been thoughtfully put together. We ended up sitting at the bar and I started with the Reformed Porn Star (vanilla vodka, bronson's tropical milk punch, passion fruit, Prosecco, citric acid and popping boba) which was by far my favorite drink and felt like I could have drank a couple more of these. Second I tried the Neo Cosmo (white rum, strawberry, cacao, coconut, rose hip, lime, bubble) which was good and was a fun drink with an ice cream shaped cup and a bubble on the top (meant to look like an ice cream cone). If you are in the area, this bar is a must try, the bartenders were awesome and took good care of us. Between the creative cocktails, fun atmosphere, unique floral setting, this was a memorable experience I'd definitely return for.

They have a nice selection of cocktail and wine specials along with shareable bites, pizzas, oysters, sliders, and other small plates, which makes it a great place to stop in for drinks and something light without necessarily committing to a full dinner. The interior is beautiful and has a polished, upscale feel without being stuffy. Once you're upstairs, there's a cool crowd, great energy, and some really beautiful views of the city. The outdoor patio is another highlight and a great place to sit when the weather cooperates. The staff was wonderful. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The weirdest part is actually getting there. The entrance is through the lobby of an office building, and then you take the elevator up to the 16th floor. It feels a little odd the first time because you're wondering if you're even in the right place, but once the elevator doors open upstairs, it makes sense.
