Lots of LARGE organisms. Ample parking & they're quite knowledgeable. Prices are in line with other aquatic stores- some things reasonable, some over priced. They do have some unusual organism and many JUMBO specimens. They also have aquatic supplies such as decor, backgrounds, treatments, food, filters, etc. Worth a pop in if you're in the market. read more

Some years ago I used to come here and I enjoyed all of the unusual selections and I purchased reptiles and fish here. Now, however, every time I go in the place, smells bad and tanks and cages look dirty. Today I saw two parakeets in a cage that wasn't even big enough for 1 to live in. I saw a turtle that was about 12 inches long in a tank where he could barely turn around just swimming back-and-forth. This is abuse and neglect. Stay away. read more

This is the most disgusting animal store I have ever been in. It made me sick to my stomach this place needs to be shut down. The animals are in horrible conditions many are dead or dying. Birds were stuffed in cardboard boxes and had no food or water. There are bunnies that are barely alive and it smelt horrible inside. There was feces everywhere and many signs saying not to film or take pictures inside most likely due to the horrible treatment of the animals. I will never ever come back here, please do not give them your business there are so many more options in Houston that are one million times better. read more

This is by far the worst fish store/pet store in the Houston area. All of the tanks were disgusting! Inside and out. There was all sorts of algae in nearly every tank and many of them had dead or very near dead fish in them. One of them even had several dead "animals" that had been there dead and decomposing so long I couldn't identify what they were. The outsides of the tanks had so much water drip and run down them with the calcium built-up that you can't even see in the bottom row of tanks. The rabbits were just chilling in their own feces and it didn't look like there is a single light in any of the reptile racks. There is plenty of clutter and unorganized chaos going on in one section of the store, but that's not nearly as important as the cruelty going on with all of these animals. I will never be going back and if you are reading this, I highly recommend that you don't go either. I'd give less than one star if it was possible. read more

This was by far the worst fish store in a 100 mile radius. We walked in and the entire place reeked of death. The first thing we noticed as we walked in was the sheer filth that had grown on the tanks. As a fish keeper this filth was not built up over a short time, but rather months of no water changes or cleaning. After we walked through the aisle, we saw a cardboard box of birds just set on the floor. I understand the importing process of animals but a good practice generally is to put them where they belong. After the birds, we continued to walk through the aisles where we counted dozens of fish either dead or close to death. Including a small river puffer who was experiencing fin rot. But we then got to the "koi pond" which was just hundreds of fish shoved into a pond, by far the most I have ever seen in a pond before. I truly hope that the Harris county Animal task force shuts you down. read more

This is one of the shops I like to purchase fish from. They Always have a great selection, healthy fish, great prices, and clean tanks! The staff are always super friendly and very helpful without being over bearing. Today I purchased 6 sailfin mollies. Their colors are beautiful. They are a nice healthy size and I even snagged a preggo female (free babies)! I named them as well lol. 4 males: 2 golden lyretail(Bert & Ernie), 1 Dalmatian who has a few orange specs on him and blue in his tail and beautiful fins Tchalla), 1 white sail fin(Ghost) 2 females: 1 black mottled hi-fin lyretail (Thelma) 1 Golden lyretail (Louise) These are an addition to my 5 all black mollies and three platys. They also sail fish tanks and supplies. They have other small pets as well: rabbits, birds, hamsters, reptiles, etc. Definitely a place to check out! The only con would be that there are no refunds on fish. read more

So a couple things... my friends and I came here looking for goldfish and plecos. 1.) they had some HUGE cool looking fish, like several feet long, but one of them looked like it was literally dying 2.) Some of the goldfish are very pretty and others had pretty noticeable deformities. 3.) My friend was looking for a blue phantom pleco and the attendant told him they had one (it was a green, not a blue) 4.) the bunnies looked like they were in poor living condition 5.) the left half of the store was really disorganized 6.) they were kinda rude (granted, we came in right before they closed so understandable)...but) don't turn the lights off while you still have people in there. Xtreme Fish & Pets is a family run business in Chinatown - exactly what I remembered a pet store to be when my parents used to take me as a child; and I went to lots of them cause my little brother wanted pet everythings growing up. You walk in and they have tanks and tanks of exotic fishes, a few reptiles/snakes, some bunnies, etc. I was here because we were looking for some koi fish for our outdoor pond - I called a few times and they gave me some odd answers every single time. The first time they said they had kois and they couldn't give me the price cause it depended on size and if they were domestic or imported. The 2nd time, he said he was all out. I came in that same day and they had a tank full of them - he makes you pick the ones you like and determines a price as you pick them. Apparently the bright gold and colorful ones are more expensive cause they're imported from Singapore. The really large ones can be up to $400. I bought 1 since we already bought 11 that morning from a distributor - smaller but more colorful than what we got for $10 each. The smaller ones range from $6 I believe to $25 for the imported ones. Their tanks were fairly clean and the store was cleanish - though we spotted a jumper fish who tried to commit suicide on the floor. We informed the lady and she picked him up and threw him back into the aquarium. Our pond was really green so we came back here for some pond bacteria to try to get rid of the algae. I also bought some algae eaters - 3 for $10/ a piece. They gave us $5 off for 2 different purchases on 2 different days. The family was literally in the back room, which is how I know this was a family run business. Hopefully our fish survive and we can come back for some more colorful ones! Some advice to the owners/staff - your mask doesn't protect me and isn't helpful when you don't wear it or wear it under your chin! Please use it when talking to customers! Seems like this store is pretty popular and there were lots of customers when we came both days! We will probably be back at some point for more fish! read more

My daughter and her friend had bought fish to keep hers company. Her fish were healthy and meaningful to her. They spent approx 100 dollars. They bought a batch of fish which they divided among 3 homes. That batch was sick and killed the fish in the 3 separate homes including my daughters pet fish within the coming days. I let the girls attempt to handle it themselves. They are young women from the class of 2020 it's time right? However, The company was rude and blamed them. 3 different homes, 3different tanks. It's no coincidence. I don't see how it would be the girls fault. I spent a lot of money trying to help save her fish but it was to no avail. This am was the final straw when the pet fish that she held very close to her died and my daughter was in tears. I get it. A fish to some, mean nothing but her fish have been her therapy. He was very strong and healthy last week. I called in just to see if I can speak to a manager and maybe work something out. I thought maybe I could find out more of what happened. When I asked if I could speak to a manager I was met with NO HES NOT HERE. I asked if I could just leave my name and number where he said NO IM TOO BUSY!! and hung up on me. I called back and the line was cut short again. I promise you my tone was soft, I wasn't ignorant at all I was just calling to talk and find out more.. Until that moment I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. Just unfortunate. I do understand that good stores can have bad batches... and I truly wasn't going to press forward with anything. All combined, however, to me is unfortunate. Initially all that was requested was a refund the cost of the fish maybe even a little apology? I don't doubt they have good fish as I can see from previous reviews... but times like this also define the type of business they are too. All you had to do was hold a conversation and try to make this right. People do get attached to their fish. What initially was just a request for a refund is now turning into something else. We weren't asking for $ for the loss of the other fish in addition or for any funds spent trying to save them. But now it's the principle of it all.... For those who dont want to read this all. Terrible customer service and turtles I bought died within days of purchase. This happened one year ago but I finally got around to posting this. I bought two turtles from here for my sister. I used to have a turtle that I would purchase food and supplies for from here which is why I knew in the first place. I made my sister do extensive research so she knows what it takes to properly care for one and what she needs. So we bought everything and had it all set for two turtles. Bought them and everything was fine for the first few days. They out of nowhere became sick and died within 24 hours. This devastated my sister. She had a burial for them and actually asked me this year to buy flowers for Luna and Rhyno, their names. I called back asking if we could get two other turtles because of what happened. We didn't want our money back, just two other turtles and they guy blew up and accused us of lying and just being rude. My dad told me to drop it so I did and bought my sister Godzilla at Petsmart. I've bought many healthy fish from here, coming here I always look at the baby bunnies. One day a boyfriend came with me and got me one as a suprise‍. Well, she has become my little princess and when coming back to look at fish I saw a little splayed rabbit. He was born that way, it was no ones fault. Little do people know in the rabbit world, these bun get "culled" meaning killed but this man was giving these buns a chance and gave him to me. He is now my little splayed leg prince. I do want to say that he was not selling this rabbit, he was caring for it and I specifically asked for it knowing that I have love and patience in my homE. I've also seen sick fish here that he has received from other people not knowing what to do and he try's to save them. So before you walk in here and see any fish in a tank that might look off, ask him, he has a legitimate story for you. I've been coming here for years now. I continue to shop here for a reason! It's an okay place. Bought my second rabbit there. Paid $35 for her. Last year my first rabbit was $15 at different location and he was healthy. But we fell for this bunny she was cute. Everything was well until the third day she was showing signs that she was not well. We took her to the vet spent $250 for treatments turns out she had parasites. We thought she wouldn't make it but luckily she fought it. They said if we would have waited she probably would have not made it. So place is ok. Not a fish person so idk about fishes. But if you get a small animal keep an eye on them. You never know if they caught something. And if they didn't then that's great! I do not wish anything on the small creatures. read more

Worst experience ever! Was recommended to get some stuff for my 200 gal freshwater tank. Also purchased Koi from this location awhile ago- - I Was suggested by my fish guy to get Brisk Nose Suckers, the owner said they had none, would order soon. Showed up to look at backing and hoping to pre order the Brisk suckers; also to look for a new salt water tank. - The owner berated me, telling me all fish poo and I could trade my big non working suckers for new regular small ones. Told him I wanted those type Brisk Nose because they don't grow so big, will not be lazy.. I did my homework, & my fish guy recommended them. Owner DID NOT like That i knew what I was talking about. Told me to bring him mine - trade them.. get discount and buy the same kind I had Told me I knew nothing, & everyone has their own opinion.. - ok , I'm recommended by someone who cleans my tank, knows fish etc This guy was yelling at me. I felt so embarrassed, stupid for driving 25 min out my way to be told I nor my fish guy knew nothing! - I was upset & left.. decided to walk back in & tell him how unprofessional he was.. busted him talking loudly about me in front of customers- Needless to say.. I told him off. Let him know I'm highly educated & to never talk to me nor any customer that way.. If your a lady, don't go w/out your husband or a guy. This man has no respect for women. Went on Memorial Day and they were open. Im new to the hobby so I wanted to see what kind of freshwater selection this place had. They had a pretty decent fish selection when I went. I did compare a few prices of their standard fish to other fish stores and they were cheaper. But I can't speak for all of the fish since I'm new and still learning. The aquariums were clean and all of the fish looked healthy. They had a mix of younger fish and full grown fish which was pretty neat. The store offers other pets like rabbits and reptiles but i didn't spend too much time looking at them. Overall not bad! I'll post some pics and Yall Can tell me if the pricing is normal. read more

Putting this bit at the top because its important DO NOT buy animals here because you want to " save them" because that just adds to the demand for them to buy more and put them in the same conditions!!! This goes for any chain or local pet store! if you really want to save them report whatever place you're at to the local aspca or authorities. I read tons of reviews praising this place but, I went and just left so upset. The conditions they have their animals in is sickening. Their fish tanks are WAY overstocked, They had bunnies mixed with Guinea pig which is dangerous for both animals seeing as the rabbits are likely to hurt the pigs. In the back room they had more rabbits in old rusty wire cages. They had 3-4 ADULT ball pythons in a small tank when BPs should NOT be housed together because they can and will eat each other + more likely to get sick if another is, had 2 ADULT bearded dragons in a tiny little tank with 2 or 3 more in a bigger tank under them. Had 3 turtles in a tank probably no bigger than 12x12 (from what I could tell I do know the tank was no longer than my arm). They were also selling baby turtles which is not legal in the state of Texas unless for educational reasons (I didn't see a sign saying so). I can see why there are signs saying " No pictures" they don't want people seeing what poor conditions they keep their animals in. I know a lot of this sounds nit picky ,but if you're going to sell exotics and fish at least keep them in proper conditions. Animal well fair is so important even if they're animals that are just going to go to other homes, I understand they are just for them to make money off of but that doesn't mean give them horrible living conditions. If you care about animals please do not buy from this place it'll just encourage them to buy and sell more. read more

I went in and was struck with the overwhelming smell of incense. The incence is not only horrible for every animal in there but is also covering the stench of rotting animals. I quickly found 14 fish dead and left with their tank mates to rot. Looking in on the reptiles I saw dead pythons rolled over on their back and not a speck of food provided. Lastly I looked in the closet and found at least 50 birds crammed into the tiniest cage, and even some escaped and starving (no access to the small amount if food in the cages) . I asked an employee why there where dead animals and he said they just had so many. If you have so many animals that you can't tell there are dead ones you can't have that many or frankly a pet business at all. Xtreme-ly disappointed and upset. Don't support animal killers. I bought a blue parakeet from them,there were many in the cage kept in the backroom and the guy helped me caught a blue one. I bought a cage and food etc from them as well,the parakeet,I dont know how old he is (it is a HE),but he is very calm while I did my grocery shopping and left him in the car. I kept him in the cage for a week,he does not eat fresh fruit or veggies,just the wheat grains,and he looks healthy. Then I let him flew around,after checking out my house,he preferred to be by the window and watch the other birds in my backyard. In the evening,he will sing along with songs I played from Youtube. But I can see how lonely he is ,one day when the back door was open ,he flew away. At night,I thought I heard him outside crying,sounds a lot weaker,but I did not realise he could be back from what I have read,they dont come back once they have their freedom,so I did nothing. Now I cant find him,but I will go back and get another one,may be two and build an aviary for them to stay outside in the summer. This place has a big selection and cheaper price but it isn't super clean and worry if all the fish are well taken care of. My wife and I are in love with fish and turtles and go to almost all the fish stores around Houston. we own quite a few aquariums and have a pond in our backyard. I use to come to this store 8 months back with no issues other than how they keep their pets and fish..etc...So this past Sunday, 5/19/19, I decided to buy a turtle since I have plenty of tanks (with the right requirements for a turtle). This Cooter turtle was barley an inch and seemed to be resting when I bought him. I asked the owner of the store multiple questions regarding to the care of a "Hatchling turtle". He told me they probably wont eat much or anything the first week because they are scared. I decided to go through with the purchase ($25). so the next day the baby turtle wasn't really moving and basking basically all day and not getting in the water....I then called the shop and told him I think this turtle is dying because these are obvious symptoms. He then told me in an aggressive tone "your turtle is fine and he is just scared. He will be fine in the next couple of days". I then told him everything and symptoms and he said the same crap. Fast forward to today...I came home to this little fella dead....I am honestly beyond pissed that they would just say whatever to make their customer believe them and this happens. If you are gonna sell ANYTHING to a customer, especially a pet, DON'T LIE TO THEM AND STEAL THEIR MONEY. never ever going back to this place and I am for sure letting all my friends in the hobby know about this store. Lots of aquariums all over town and here is one of my faves that I frequent. There's lots of different types of fish here to select from koi to puffers to jack dempseys. I bought a 90-gallon tank here before (the owner is real nice, he even went to my office to set-up the tank properly). Purchased many different Malawi cichlids in the past. Currently resetting my tank for Tanganikya cichlids and recently purchased a duboisi and a leleupi from them. They sell rabbits, parrots, snakes, and turtles here too, but fish is their main specialty here. I'll be back for more tropheus juvies as they stock them. read more
