I have been going to this pet store for my fish needs for several years now. Their staff is knowledgeable and helpful, they have multiple species for sale but since I only go for aquatic life, unless the other pets are on my direct path toward the tanks, I don't notice them. I have seen some very cute & healthy looking parakeets! The Koy farm is always a nice treat to see, they also look healthy and great. After deciding that the perfect gift for my boyfriend would to get him some goldfishes as he has an avid hobby for aquatic life and is a gold-fish enthusiast, I quickly searched some fish stores that had the one he wanted which were Ryukin goldfish. So I purchase the fishes and after 2 weeks, the one of the fishes died Then, 3 more weeks passed and the other one dies. Apparently, the fishes already were sick before I bought them because his fish tank was clean and quarantined. I really hate that because what was supposed to be a good gift turned into a horrible gift. Now, my boyfriend is pretty upset about the lost of his new members. However, he still has his goldfish that he purchased from Wal-mart over 6 years ago still living happily. Also, it does seem that they breed their own goldfishes and an over-populated area of goldfish all live together without much room to swim which is sad. I cannot and will not recommend. I'm a school teacher and went to this store to get fish to go into my fish tank with guppies in my classroom. They told me that any blue tag item can go in the same tank as the guppies. I chose to get small neon fish, the same size as the guppies. The fish were in my tank three days and died. I called the store and told them what happened and they stated that I needed a heater for the fish. I repeatedly asked several employees and the owner if I needed anything else after explaining everything I had and they told me no - the fish should be okay. When I called and reported to them what had happened they stated that I needed a heater and I should've asked if my fish needed a heater. They were very condescending and belittled me saying that I should've known that they needed a heater because I'm a teacher. My guppies are thriving without one. Afterwards, they started texting me Photos telling me that I can have no refund. I had to block them after three rude text. I never responded. I never asked for a refund, just advice of what I should purchase next time. I just wanted a fish that could go in the tank with a guppy. Over the phone, they stated no fish can be in a tank with guppies, so they lied. $30 wasted. My students have no new fish. read more

I drove by and stop by the place with impulse to just to check it out, with not intention to purchase any merchandise. The place has its own parking place away from the shopping center. Plenty of parking. The place in general is clean, but it has a sign said not photographs. Hmm make you wonder what they try to hide. First the betta fish they were kept in the tiny bowl, as normal like every other pet store. That is bad enough but every bowl were kept half full. It is bad enough they were kept in the small bowl, the poor fish were given half filled bowl and has no swimming space. And the fish were frighten and they were stressed out and scare of people, which is another sign of poor conditions they were kept. Betta are not afraid of people. So I had to take a bowl and the fish and purchase it, so I can at least rescued one. The employee were so worry about what I do to the bowl!! I was thinking how about take care of your animals. I asked if the baby turtles can grow, and I was told they stay small...... I was speechless. I saw blackmoor gold were that was going blind that was enough for me. The place has cheap price, but the way they kept their animals is horrible. Baby parrots is a ten gallon fish tank etc. I would not support a pet store kept their animals that way. Avoid this pet store! Animals are kept in poor living conditions. Even before walking in I saw that there were two large tortoises outside with a tray of old wilted vegetables for food. There are also lots of algae filled fountains and small ponds with disgusting green water. Inside, saw a tank with a dead baby turtle that looked like it had been there for many days neglected. It was dead on the bottom of the tank and its head was covered in white fungus. All the tanks are dimly lit and the fish look stressed. There was one tank with a large red devil cichlid chasing and nipping fins of baby oscars. The poor oscars were huddled together and getting chased around by the cichlid 4x their size. Why would anyone think this is ok?? In the back room, they keep lots of koi and goldfish in extremely overcrowded conditions. There is one pond with some large koi, and the water level is so low that the fish's dorsal fin and top of their bodies aren't even be fully submerged. This pet store is awful! Do not buy anything from here. No wonder there's a sign on the door that says "No pictures allowed." They should be reported for animal cruelty. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. The animals are in horrendous living conditions. Walking into the shop immediately, the fish tanks are dirty and some aren't named which gets confusing but nothing overwhelmingly wrong or bad. My fiancé and I decided to look towards the back of the store and noticed there were mice and to the left there were birds and rabbits. The rabbits were in cages, without hay, water bowls, and were in horrible condition. One of the black lionheads was missing chunks of fur around its neck and butt. Rabbits are not meant to be caged let alone in a two foot cage with another rabbit. I will be calling animal rescue services tomorrow, this is animal cruelty. I don't know much about birds but I have common sense to know that 50 (probably more) birds in one cage is unacceptable. You also can't take picture in the shop which is convenient considering there is literal animal abuse going on. It absolutely broke my heart seeing these precious creatures being treated so horribly, I had to leave the store because I was going to start sobbing. They were nice people but uneducated and not versed enough in the care of rabbits and birds. read more

I came in here to check out their tegus and I was appalled at the living conditions of their tegus, other reptiles, and their birds. I've only done enough research to give enough details on the living conditions of the tegus so I'll focus on that, but most reptiles did not have enough space for their environment. I will also provide a source for tegu care so future owners who can save these poor tegus can treat them how they're meant to be treated. For their tegus specifically: They had several baby tegus inside one cage and an adult tegu in another. I'll go over the adult's living conditions first. The adult tegu belongs to one of the employees and was not for sale. I hope that their tegu is never in there long; otherwise theres no excuse for the owner to let their pet live in those kind of conditions. The most apparent issue was size of the adult tegu's enclosure. Adult male tegus need at least 8'x4'x3'. He had maybe half of that. The poor tegu barely had enough room to turn around. Additionally, the enclosure did not have nearly enough substrate. It barely covered the floor. Tegus like to burrow so there should be enough substrate for it to at LEAST burrow almost completely. The most concerning, however, was that it did not look like neither the adult nor the hatchlings had enough humidity. Tegus should have around 70-80% humidity in their enclosures. Based on how dry their substrate was, it didn't look like their enclosures were anywhere near that. I did not stay long; I merely came to look. I strongly reccomend that those who want to buy animals from this place do their research and learn how to recognize signs of sickness or injuries. Awesome place for fish lovers. And lovers of other pets too. I've been here several times! And service and selection has been consistent for me! Phat is excellent! He always has a smile and really goes out of his way to educate you and help you out. There is also a sweet young lady and a guy named Parker who are also both very polite and helpful--never rude and impatient. I was mainly here for freshwater supplies and goldfish/koi. They have plenty of goldfish to choose from--ranchu, ryukin, shubunkin, red cap oranda, orange oranda, black moor--and they have more in the back where they keep their ponds. I found my beloved large/XL ryukin buddy there, as well as other fish. They also have gorgeous koi and butterfly koi with a variety of colors/patterns and sizes from small to XXL. So far the best koi place I've been to out of many aquarium/fish stores in SW Houston, in terms of selection. I brought my livestock home, no infections, good health, no one has died. None of my existing fish have gotten sick. I did not take a look at other other fish species much, since that's not what I was there for, but they also carry axolotls (wooper pokemon looking animal), plecos, parrot fish, cichlids, black knifes, candy frogs, and much more! You have to see it. Lots of aquarium decorations from backgrounds (solid, scenery, 3D) to themed decor, to driftwood, gems, you can customize your tank to your liking. And they also specialize in ponds and tanks, so they have plenty of knowledge and will advise you. Food variety is plentiful, aquarium filters, treatments, etc. are available as well. And their ghost shrimp and feeder fish prices can't be beat! To fellow newbies, don't bother stepping into petco or petsmart where the salespeople aren't as experienced, the fish are not as healthy or varied, and the supplies are limited in variety and overpriced. I am not an expert, but have done some good research while perusing this hobby, and have access to those who have experience, and I've realized the advice given to me by some salespeople are incorrect and maybe not the best answer. But these guys at fish and pets have been doing this for a while, and are doing it right because people keep coming back. You can see it in their confidence, and body language when they answer questions. They also have many other gorgeous reptiles, birds, and mammals, so there is something for everyone looking for a "extraordinary" pet, and many supplies, for start up. :) You get every dollar's worth for the treatment you get and the purchase too. Fish N Pets is what I consider your neighborhood pet shop. Nothing extraordinary about the place, but they have quite a variety of livestock and Phat is very helpful and energetic. I do enjoy doing business with him from time to time. This location seems to just have a freshwater selection of fish, which is fine for me. His prices are a bit high, but I have negotiated with him and gotten a fair price. The staff is willing to give advice and answer questions, which is always a must in my book. read more

We recently visited this store for the first time. They have an amazing variety of fish and pets. We bought 4 fish that are very unique, and unlike any that we had seen before. They even have a pet parrot "Fruit Loop" that was so fun to visit with. The owners, Stacy and Patrick, are precious people and were great with my kids! Stacey was very knowledgeable about birds too. Never going back. I went there after calling and confirming they had painted turtles for sale. Me not knowing exactly what i was looking for looked like and trusting this business to give me what i asked for, they sold me a deformed river cooter about the size of a quarter. Kept saying something about only selling turtles for educational purposes or something. The guy even had to flip to the underside of a tank label to read the price. Real shady business. We went back this weekend and a white guy that works there he's so rude he dosen't know how to treat people and poor little goldfish. Um. Well, words don't describe this place. There are a variety of enclosures outside, and I decided to look inside them. The tortoises didn't have food or water (it's Houston outside, not cool), and I spotted a finch drowning in the water dish in a pigeon enclosure. I told the staff about it and they took forever to do anything about it because they were eating pizza in the middle of the shop. There are many signs prohibiting photography, and now I know why. The bird room was filthy, overcrowded, and inaccessible to customers. I'm not sure how you can choose a pet if you can't interact with it somehow. As far as the fish side goes, it was much cleaner and less crowded. There is a wide variety, and aside from a few dead fish, they seemed to be doing alright. I purchased 3 birds there. A Male Diamond Back Dove, Female Ring neck Dove and a Female Zebra Finch in the past two weeks. Yesterday I came home to find my Diamond Dove deceased and my Female Zebra Finch deceased. "They have no return policy" The place is filthy. The bird cages are covered in poop. There are a lot of birds and fish there but the company does not maintain the volume of clean up it should have. I thought I could find a bird quickly available but unfortunately the birds are not healthy. I did purchase another Diamond Back Dove. I hope it is healthy. NO discount either. The guy I talked to was very rude he basically told me they can't do anything because it was my fault the birds died. He was raising his voice at me and I was talking to him in a calm manner.
