Really delicious spot for ramen :) the broth isn't too heavy or salty and the noodles are chewy. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a yummy and satisfying bowl of ramen.

I got the tsukemen here and thought it was really good! The ramen is a bit on the pricier side, but the quality and portion is good. Compared the other ramen restaurants, the slices of pork here are thicker. They also allow a lot of customization for your ramen which was nice.

I found Yah Yah Ya Ramen as I was around Capstan way in Richmond and craved some ramen. The store itself its simple and clean, the area is spacious and there are some cute decorations. The staff were really attentive as I entered the store, being seated quickly at lunch time. I ordered the black garlic miso ramen and shoyu ramen combo with gyoza. The gyoza arrived quickly and was tasty. The main dish of black garlic miso ramen was really tasty, the broth wasn't too salty and flavorful. A quality dish for sure as the noodles was cooked just the way I liked it. I went for the hard noodles and normal broth and oil levels. It really hit the spot on a colder day outside. I also had the shoyu ramen combo, it had a heavier flavor and was definitely on the saltier side. Yah Yah Ya Ramen really hit the spot I wanted for ramen and I enjoyed my meal and time in there, would return whenever I'm in the area and craving a ramen. For the price point it's at I also encourage you to do so if you need a ramen fix!

Large shop with friendly staff! Food was good. Enjoy the texture of the noodles. Broth was ok. The ambiance of the shop was clean and spacious

My friend recommended Yah yah ya Ramen so i decided to come here for dinner. When I arrived, the place was packed and there were people waiting in the front entrance. They have a waiting list with pen and paper where you put your name and the number of people. 5-7 minutes later, our name was called and we got booth seats. The booths and tables were all wooden. The tables themselves were well cleaned. The downside is I felt the tables between the booth chairs were slightly cramped as a bigger person. The side walls are orange-yellow with large Japanese characters written on them. There's catchy Japanese pop music playing in the background. The wait staff are pretty average in terms of service. I asked questions about the menu and they answered me in a monotone and nonchalant kind of way. Later, my friend had to flag the staff a few times to order more noodles. They seemed too busy to notice. Some good things are that I got my ramen within 5-7 minutes after ordering which is pretty average for a ramen place. Later, the wait staff noticed our cups of water were low and quickly offered to refill it. They were also very quick to pick up our empty bowls and get our bills when we were done. I ordered the large shoyu ramen with a side of extra noodles. The large shoyu ramen has two pieces of chashu (braised pork belly), seaweed, spinach, and flavored egg. You won't be disappointed with their ramen. The chashu pork is tender and flavorful. The egg goes really well with the broth. The broth after finishing all the toppings in the soup was a delight to drink. I wasn't totally blown away by all the flavors but it was very good for ramen. (For the record, I have yet to be blown away by the flavors of ramen from any restaurant.) As for portion size, the large sized portion is definitely enough to make anyone full. They also have regular sized bowls. I had plenty of broth left over so I ordered extra noodles for $2.50. It's worth it if you are still hungry and want to fill up on a small bowl of noodles to enjoy with the leftover soup broth. My friend ordered the volcano ramen which is the spiciest ramen available. It includes chashu, bean sprouts, kikurage (wood ear mushroom), flavored egg, and chives. He loved it. He also ordered the mentaiko don which contains salmon roe, seaweed and rice. It was just OK. The salmon roe was noticeably very minced. One thing that's unique to this ramen restaurant is that you can choose how tough your noodles want to be, the intensity of the flavor (taste), and the amount of oil in the soup. I chose soft noodles with a normal taste and oil. I think this is the best option. Prices are fair, with the ramen soup bowls hovering around $15-19 depending on the type of ramen and size you choose. Overall, I would definitely come back to Yah yah ya in the future. I'd like to try their other ramen and possibly a side dish. Their most popular dish is the black tonkotsu ramen. It looks really good in the menu picture. I say it's worth trying out this restaurant if you're in the mood for ramen in the Richmond area. 4 stars out of 5.

Being from Yokohama, I knew I needed to try this place to see if it fixes my craving for ie-kei ramen that I ate since I was 5 years old. In Canada, this place is the closest to ie-kei ramen that I have tried so far. TIPS: Get hard noodle, heavy taste, more oil Then why was it 4 stars? -It was near closing time, and the waiter was just pacing back and forth infront of us -The extra spinach that I got did not look like it was extra at all -Karaage (fried chicken) was not very well marinated and not that juicy. I wish they had some sauce to compensate for the lack of flavor

    Spicy chashu don

This place is famous for its ramen, but did you know they have smaller fare to make a budget combo? The spicy chashu don is $7.95 while the takoyaki is $6.95 The spicy chashu don has pulled chashu pork covered in a spicy but savoury sauce on steamed rice. The takoyaki is perfectly cooked with a light crispy coating and the doughy octopus filling inside. Great option for a quick weekend bite

Their quality improved from the last time that I've had it! ~ Shoyu Ramen $11.50 Yakibuta $3.25 Abura Soba $11.50 Takoyaki $5.75 ~ Haven't had takoyaki in so long, this tasted super yummy! The crispness of the outer layer, the soft batter inside and then that chewy tako in the middle . Just perfect! The Shoyu ramen kept with their standards and still taste great! That crispy chashu definitely enhanced the ramen together! The Abura soba was very flavourful as well. I've chose spicy but I guess they forgot and gave me non-spicy instead which was fine too. The noodles were soft and tender and it was well blended with the perfect soft boiled egg.

I came here for lunch recently and tried their Shoyu Ramen with thin noodles. Overall, the soup is flavourful and the ramen is good and it's a pretty good value.

Any time we're out in Richmond, we have to take advantage of trying restaurants! Yah yah ya ramen is one of the restaurants I searched that had higher reviews than most. I don't like to base my opinion on a restaurant solely by reviews, since everyone has different tastes. I usually like to look at the pictures because we eat with our eyes! The pictures looked really yummy and it didn't hurt that they have good reviews as well! I got the tsukumen since not all ramen restaurants have this option, I felt that I should try it out. It was more soy based and clear than ones I had in the past. Quite salty but I enjoyed it! Noodles were cooked perfectly and charshu was tender and came with big pieces. My fiancé got the garlic miso ramen. It wasn't as thick and rich as other places, which I enjoyed! We love when we get combo options to try a small portion of appies they have!

Shoyu Ramen - regular $12.25 Black tonkotsu ramen - large $16.25
    Angela L.

Shoyu Ramen - housemade soy sauce (R $12.25): I got a light taste for the broth so it wasn't too overpowering or salty. I would suggest getting less oil as well. The regular noodles were nice and chewy, not too firm either. Portions are okay for the price! Black Tonkotsu - strong pork broth & black garlic sauce with thin noodle, large $16.25: Didn't adjust this one for anything so it had a very strong garlic taste and it was very salty. The thin noodles was perfect for this broth! The large bowl gives you an extra egg and more noodles. Seaweed, spinach, chashu, and egg included. The bamboo shoots were included for the tonkotsu one. The egg was cooked really nicely and the chashu is tender with the thick cut. This is how you can adjust your bowl! Noodle texture - hard, normal, soft Taste - heavy, normal, light Oil - more, normal, less Their ramen is pretty standard so nothing stood out to me, but I would still go back! They only have around 5 tables available and they are busy during peak hours. The server was really efficient and friendly too! Me and my family got in and out within 40 mins.

This was probably my 4th time here since they've opened in Richmond. To be fair, I've given them plenty of opportunities to redeem themselves in my mind but... I think this would be my last time here. Yah Yah Ya is an actual ramen chain from Japan. The exterior of the restaurant resembles the ones found in Japan. There's usually a line up during meal times. You'd go in the restaurant and write your name and wait for your turn. As usual, the service from Japanese servers were always polite and courteous. We ordered: 1) Black tonkotsu ramen, 2) cold ramen bowl and 3) spicy miso ramen with mentaiko bowl. For the two hot ramens, we found the broth wasn't very rich. I had asked for strong flavor but it was still not rich enough. The chashu was a little on the bland side but what really discounted the points, in my mind, was the broth. The cold ramen bowl was ok. They didn't put enough sauce in it and the chashu that came with it was also bland. In conclusion, I think Yah Yah Ya is a decent place for ramen but I'm just extremely picky about my ramen. The ramen broth is everything to me. However, if you're craving ramen and don't want to drive all the way to Vancouver or Downtown, this would be a closer option, for those who live in Richmond.

Wait time subsequently rose to 30-45 minutes and when we left it was 1 hr 15 min or more. So get there at least 10 min before especially if you dine in the weekend. We shared the assorted tonkatsu set which featured cheese katsu, pork katsu (tonkatsu), ebi (shrimp), alongside miso soup, cabbage, rice, and the other fixings. It's cool you can grind the sesame and have a choice of dipping in mayo or katsu sauce. Also, we added an egg for $2 (half egg, ripoff, skip skip), and hotate (scallop) - nicely battered, fresh, and sweet. I'd recommend eating the cheese katsu first thing to fully enjoy the melted cheese texture. The pork katsu is solid - the meat is quite juicy. The shrimp is huge and fresh. I docked a star off because of the service. The place is small and it's Japanese food so I expected a bit better service. When we chose to share the set, they called out they won't honor unlimited cabbage, rice, and soup, unless we specifically order 2 sets, despite us ordering extras that are close to the price of the cheapest set. Also, it takes a while to flag down a server to refill the hot tea. It's still a decent experience, but I would've been unhappy if I waited more than 30 minutes for a table because while the katsu is delicious, it's not impressive compared to other katsu spots to wait such a long time.

Afuri Ramen had a anniversary promo sale on their yuzu shio ramen as advertised on Instagram page, so my friends and I got 3 of those. They were only $12 discounted from $17.50 regularly. Afuri's shio ramen comes with shio tare, chicken broth, chiyu, menma, greens, sous vide chicken chashu, egg, nori, yuzu, and thin noodles. In terms of taste, the ramen was not bad. The chicken was cooked well. It's a very light, citrusy, and refreshing ramen, rather than the bold, salty, oily, super flavorful ones i usually eat at other ramen places. Afuri's take on ramen is different for sure. On the downside, I thought the strong citrus flavors of yuzu and the other veggies overpowered everything in the ramen which im not a big fan of. Too tangy for me. The portion size of the ramen are slightly on the smaller side too. Service was OK. Wait time for the ramen was pretty long at about 20ish minutes. On the bright side, the servers were friendly and checked on our table regularly to refill waters and stuff. They were really quick in giving the bill when we requested it. All the staff said goodbye to us when we left which was nice. The dining area was spacious and modern. Clean as well. Most of the tables were long, shared communal tables with a selection condiments, chopsticks, and napkins. I kind of liked the chili paste they provided. It's not very spicy though. Gonna have to give Afuri Ramen 3 out of 5 stars mainly because the ramen was just ok in my opinion. I discovered that I don't like yuzu and its citrusy flavors in my ramen as much as i thought. If you don't mind that at all, Afuri Ramen is worth a try. Their yuzu shio ramen is still discounted to $12 until the end of this August in Richmond and Vancouver on weekdays. It's a great promo.

The ambiance is modern Asian, with concrete floors contributing to an industrial feel. Service Quality: During my visit on a Sunday, there were only two servers managing the entire restaurant. Despite this, I was seated right away for a late lunch service as I was dining alone. Although the restaurant was fully occupied, I was able to place my order promptly. However, it took a bit longer to receive my bill and make the payment. Menu Variety: Afuri Ramen and Dumpling offers an extensive menu with numerous ramen options and a variety of other appetizers. Additionally, they have an appealing drink menu. Food Presentation: I opted for the lunch combo, which included gyoza and tsukemen. Both dishes were neatly plated with evident care. The utensils--forks, chopsticks, and a spoon--were provided in a small plastic container on the side. Although I ordered pan-fried gyoza, I was served the deep-fried version instead. Despite this mix-up, I still enjoyed the dish without raising a complaint. Food Taste and Quality: The taste of the food was excellent, with a good balance of salt and spice. The freshness and heat of the dishes were commendable. The ramen noodles were cooked to perfection, and the tsukemen had a generous amount of meat. Portion Sizes: The lunch combo provided a satisfactory amount of food. However, considering the price, it would have been nice to have one or two more pieces of gyoza and a bit more ramen noodles. Drink Selection: The restaurant offers a good selection of cocktails. Since I visited for lunch, I only tried their homemade ginger ale, which was incredibly delicious and refreshing. I wish I had the recipe for it! Price and Value: I received a 20% discount on the lunch combo due to the day and time of my visit. This is something to look out for if you plan to dine here. Despite the discount, I felt that the portion sizes could have been more generous. Overall, I paid just under $30 for the drink, gyoza, and tsukemen. Overall Experience and Recommendation: Afuri Ramen and Dumplings may not be my top choice for ramen in Richmond, given the abundance of other options in the area. However, if you find yourself within a few blocks of this restaurant, it's worth a visit. I recommend trying their gyoza and homemade ginger ale, and you can't go wrong with any of their ramen choices.
