Tortas con papas are great here and they don't skimp on the avocado. Waitstaff is efficient and polite. I like to park at paseo and then walk over to grab lunch after I'm done shopping, its easier than finding parking nearby during peak hours. Def recommend. read more

I have passed this place on the way to work often and finally gave it a try. First of all, the waiter, Erik, was incredibly friendly. I saw the menu on the wall and had to try a torta so I asked him which was best. He was delighted I asked and recommended the special torta of the day (carne de pierna) that he had just had for lunch. I am not a picky eater so I accepted and fell deeply in love. This place is well known in the area for their breakfast but I went here for lunch with some co-workers. Most of the menu items are good, some are misses. I had the de milanesa (breaded chicken breast) torta. I thought it was ok but my co worker felt it was too charred and just a burnt piece of meat. This has become a regular lunch spot for my coworkers and I. We have determined that the french fries will be the best french fries that you will ever have. Worthy mentions: The Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and the Yahaira burger. I cant say anything about the rest of the menu because I keep coming back to these two sandwiches which continue to appease. My husband and I went here a cold night here in Pas! I was craving Mexican and hoping for a cheap eat in the area. We followed Yelp to Yahaira's green awning and were seated promptly by a smiling host at the bar. There are maybe 5 tables for 4 inside and a few outside and a bar. This is where you really should sit to see all that is being right in front of your eyes and say "I want that!" The lamb special looked divine, but I wasn't feeling the higher price point for it, so I went with the empanadas. Moist and served with a great sauce! Great for an evening out -- perhaps not for a "cheap eat" that fills you up. 5 stars for great service, seeing the food prepared, and shredded chicken that was moist and tasty! read more

Been coming here for years. Usually for breakfast but lunch sometimes and then dinner on Friday or Saturday. Never been disappointed. We and our friends love the place. My husband and I have been coming to breakfast here almost every weekend for years. While my husband is the breakfast person, I am a more a lunch person - they have no problem serving me lunch even if we are there at 10:00am. The staff, especially Jorge, are always nice and make polite small talk that make going to small local restaurants worth it. Their various sandwiches are great. My personal favorite is the chicken and eggplant. The salads are good and they are the only restaurant I have been to that put jicama on their salads, which is a plus in my book. But my personal favorite is the chicken burrito - it is the perfect, fresh, and healthy sandwich: chicken, black beans, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce wrapped in a spinach tortilla. Love it! As for breakfast - I have only had the french toast, but my husband loves the dish with the eggs and pork served with tortillas. read more

I've been here a dozen times, all 4 star experiences, but tonight I went for dinner for the first time. It was a 2-star meal. We were disappointed and I wish it wasn't so, but the food was just...bad. the quality of the meat was subpar. We had the chicken burrito, which was the best thing we ate, although it was by no means a "good" burrito. The torta was pressed like a panini; the meat (beef) was dry and tasted like steak-umm. The steak quesadilla wasn't very good either. The french fries tasted like fish, and I think they must have put them in the fryer right after they fried fish. they tasted pretty gross as you can imagine. The service was good, and I've always had good service here. in fact, great service! It's a cozy spot. warm, friendly. I recommend it for breakfast only. read more

This shit's fn good, very fresh, tasty Mexican food with friendly service and nice atmosphere. When I first discovered Yahaira's I was stumbling aimlessly around Colorado Blvd. with a violent hangover trying to decide where I was going to eat (no, I'm not a hobo, I just live a few blocks away). I knew it had to be soon as I could feel my empty stomach lined with last nights ferment starting to do some funky shit in my stomach. Some greasy ass Mexican food to coat my stomach sounded perfect. Non of the other local Mexican restaurants were open this early in the day so I found myself in front of Yahaira's. Upon walking in you know that it's one of those fresh, but quick, semi-gourmet types of places. The people working they were also very friendly as they greeted me immediately upon walking in. They have a few tables outside and in the restaurant, but I chose to sit at the bar which wraps around the cooking area. The place was kind of busy and I was starving, I thought I was going to keel over on the spot, but to my delight/luck/fortune, there was a plate of Huevos Yucatan in front of me within 5-6 minutes. I just randomly ordered this dish and it is hands down, in the top 3 breakfast dishes of all breakfast cuisine ever...Fuckin' EVER. All it is is eggs sunnyside up on some crispy tortillas, with ham, black beans, peas, and a tomato sauce. All the flavors go together perfect and the seasoned potatoes are perfect for soaking up the tomato sauce with egg and black beans mixed in. I've also had the Lomitos Scramble there which was pretty good as well. However, I don't I'll give anything else on the breakfast menu a chance because the Huevos Yucatan are so good. when Yahaira first opened, we would come here for dinner all the time, but not recently, due to us moving. we miss it, but now that we're often back in Pasadena during morning hours, this has primarily become a breakfast spot for us -- and boy is it GOOD. the breakfast burrito is pretty much everything you dreamt of how a breakfast burrito could be. the chorizo is flavourful and the fresh ingredients keep it from being heavy or greasy. the in-house salsa that comes with it is enough to give it a kick if you so desire, so both spicy & non-spicy lovers will be happy. the lomitos scramble plate is also first-rate; the eggs are perfectly done with savoury chunks of marinated pork that will make your mouth happy. don't skip the mexican hot chocolate; sure, it's the price of a big ol' fancy coffee, but they use the real stuff and it tastes amazing. if you DO get a cup of coffee, they will make sure it stays full. service here is always friendly and gracious, and the interior always seems to have a kick-back, "local spot" vibe. i've never felt hurried along here. prices are very reasonable considering portion size and food quality. read more

Can I just say that I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE this place? They have never disappointed me! Their food is always spot on in regards to flavor, seasoning, and freshness. The staff is so nice and warm, even remembering my fiance and I from when we came for breakfast a MONTH ago! (By the way, the breakfast is freakin' GOOD too!) They also remembered how much we loved their Cafe de Olla and offered us coffee to go after our meal before we even asked for it! The waiter was super helpful, giving us suggestions about the new special on the menu. It was fish (don't remember what kind) served on hominy with a pumpkin sauce. I thought it sounded weird but once I tasted the melt in your mouth fish and the awesome sauce, I was in HEAVEN! My fiance had the pasilla chile stuffed with chicken and we honestly fought over the last bites on our plate. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the cooks do their thing and those guys are efficient as hell, working fast but not skimping on anything (I worked in a kitchen in LA and know what good cooks do and don't do!). So happy I finally decided to come here after trying El Portal (which the family also owns along with Vanessa's Cafe in the same alley). Just when I didn't think I could find better mexican food in Pasadena than El Portal, I tried this place :) I love that the places are family owned and you can see the staff walking between establishments when times get busy or just to check in to see how things are going. You can tell they really care about their restaurants, their food, their family, and most importantly, their customers :) Our families usually don't like mexican food but we are so certain that the food they make is AMAZING enough to please even our finicky South American parents that we are thinking about having them cater our wedding next year.
