I recently tried Yemen Grill & Cafe and had a mixed experience. I ordered the Large Mixed Grill Dinner, which was listed on the menu as $24.99. When I went to pay, I was charged $39.99 instead. That was a pretty unpleasant surprise and honestly the biggest downside of the visit. If the price has changed, the menu needs to be updated because it's misleading and leaves customers feeling deceived. As for the food, there was a lot to like. The lentil soup was absolutely delicious, the salad was fresh and flavorful, and the hummus was very good. The shish tawook and lamb tekah were both excellent--tender, flavorful, and definitely the highlights of the meal. The rice also had great flavor. The lamb kebab and chicken kebab (both ground meat) just weren't my favorite. They weren't bad, but they didn't stand out compared to the other grilled meats. For dessert, I tried the masoob (banana dessert), and it was excellent. The coffee was also very good and was a nice way to finish the meal. One thing that really detracted from the experience was the extremely strong, flowery deodorizer scent throughout the restaurant. It was overpowering and took away from being able to fully enjoy the food. The staff were friendly, but they seemed a bit disconnected and not very engaged. Overall, I'd come back because much of the food was very good, but I really hope they fix the menu pricing. This was place incredible!!! The vibes were fantastic with beautiful decor as soon as you walk in. They had the World Cup game on and after that had beautiful traditional music playing. We got the chicken shawarma, lamb skewers and the pistachio cake - and everything was absolutely amazing! The shawarma almost had creamy sauce which was unusual. The lamb and chicken shawarma were both perfectly seasoned and juicy. The pistachio cake however was the real surprise - not very sweet, airy, light and made with real pistachios! I walked in this evening to break my fast during Ramadan and was told by Melissa that they weren't taking guests and that there was a long waiting list. I left without any issue, but immediately called the restaurant to double-check availability. This time, Melissa told me there was space and said to "just come on in." It's difficult not to question why I was initially turned away if tables were in fact available. As a first-time guest who was genuinely looking forward to trying the food--especially as someone who loves Yemeni cuisine--this was disappointing. I hope this was simply a misunderstanding, but the experience left me feeling unwelcome. EDIT: I appreciate the owner/manager's quick response.
