found ourselves during lunch time in north van after a soccer game, felt the cravings japanese bentos , quick search and found this place less than a km from where we were. they have lunch specials on bento boxes for beef and chicken teriyaki only and No substitutions. each box is $7.95. browsing the menu, their appys and rolls looked really reasonably priced. so we ordered both beef and chicken and a chicken karaage. both bentos cane appealing and included miso soup. both were tasty and weren't too salty. each came with 4 cali rolls and 1 prawn tempura and 1 yam and 1 sweet potato tempura. meats were tender and teriyaki sauce was spot on. the tempuras were just fried so came hot, fresh, and crispy! the only needs improvement aspects are the portions! the rice and teriyaki portions were small compared to most boxes. and, the tempura sauce was weak. it was a bit watered down for sure. chicken karaaga was perfect! not too much breading. seasoned well! chicken was not dry but moist and juicy! came with thousand island dressing! lol sitting capacity was small, as i think they concentrate on take outs....parking will be a problem during peak hours as they are located in a small strip mall and share parking with a music studio and hair salon. but service was great! servers always smiling, and refilled tea and water glasses without being told. food came quick and used dishes taken away asap. for a no frills quick japanese craving, i would recommend this place when in north van! i wouldnt mind going back and trying the rice bowl dishes next time. tip: it may appear they have no washrooms, but just ask and u will be given directions. u gotta go thru the kitchen ( literally) to get to it. very odd placement for sure. lol happy eating!

Food was mediocore, but the after taste was so bad, we had to buy some chocolate later

The Miso Soup not only had a terrible smell but an odd unnatural aftertaste. Gross! Comes to mind. Salmon Avocado: Proportionality of ingredient ratios was completely off and amateur. ( See pic.) The sticky rice was also overcooked. Yes, you can overcook sticky rice. Dynamite Roll: I don't know what to say....it didn't look or taste like a Dynamite Roll. Tasteless, stingy and proper Dynamite Roll ingredients missing ( see pic.) Avocado Roll: Well....it was avocado rolled in overcooked rice. Moving on.... They got the most basic Sushi menu items wrong. So truly even the 1 Star is for the polite lady that took my order over the phone. She was nice and professional. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

We arrived around 2 PM for our reservation and were greeted warmly right away, which made for a great first impression. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bamboo divider running through the middle of the space gave it a cozy, modern Japanese-inspired feel, and the overall atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.

The moment I bit into it, it was bursting with juice! The meat was incredibly thick but not dry at all, and the outer skin was crispy like snowflakes. The first bite was amazing; I've never had such a delicious pork cutlet in Shanghai. Curry Pork Cutlet Rosu Curry $29.5 My friend ordered the curry pork cutlet today, and it was surprisingly excellent! The curry flavor was incredibly rich and full-bodied. Wrapped in the crispy pork cutlet and eaten with rice, it was pure carb bliss! Freshly Ground Sesame Powder I have to praise their freshly ground sesame powder; the aroma of the sesame seeds you grinded yourself was a real highlight. * With lemon salt: Refreshing and original, a perfect way to cut through the richness! * With barbecue sauce: Mixed with sesame powder, the flavors develop layer by layer. With two flavors to choose from, it's really hard to stop! I'll definitely come back to try it again next time.

Since I…read morestopped competitive skating senior year of high school, I'm not in North Van very often anymore. Last weekend, I happened to be in the area with my parents, so we went here for lunch. I was overjoyed that the friendly service and high quality food was as good as I remembered from years ago. Adding to the joyful mood were all the festive touches. The restaurant was decked out with a Christmas tree, garlands, etc., and the staff -- including those I spotted through the kitchen window -- were wearing cute, Christmas-y headbands. Being here just felt really familiar and cozy. Momiji has some great, affordable combos and standalone dishes. There's also plenty of nice things to splurge on. I was in the latter mood, so ordered a piece each of the uni and tobiko izura (fish roe and quail's egg) nigiri, as well as a spider roll (soft shell crab tempura with crab meat, avocado, and cucumber). The uni was really plump; the creaminess and brininess mixed with the rice and nori made for the perfect bite. I enjoyed the tobiko izura too, even though it was a lot messier to eat. That piece was topped with so much tobiko! The egg yolk added richness, making the nigiri even more palatable. From a presentation standpoint, this one is absolutely stunning. Spider rolls have been hit and miss for me, but Momiji's is always a hit. The tempura is so light and crispy, and the pieces aren't tiny either! They do a good job balancing the ratios of the other fillings too. And the teriyaki sauce brushed on top is just the right amount -- not so thick that it overwhelms your palate, nor too faint that you wonder what the point of that component is. The sweet, umami-forward notes of the teriyaki elevate every other ingredient in this roll. Perfection! Note to self: I'll be back, and soon. Thank you Momiji!
